[Q] T-Mobile (T879) Note vs AT&T (I7171) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note

I am looking to upgrade from my Galaxy S 4G to a Note, and I have been reading a lot about speed issues with the I717 Note on T-Mobile's network. It sounds like the Blaze modem and a up-to-date ROM is the way to go, but would it be better to start out with a T-Mobile Note?
The T879's are more expensive on the used Market right now, so if they are equal, I would rather get a I717.

The I717 Dev section is more active although it would really depend on what network you are planning to use it on

If you're on t-mobile I would go with the t879 if you can find a good deal on one. I had the i717 for about a week and was not happy at all with data speeds. It was better when I installed the stock t-mobile rom and modem but I ended up getting a week old t879 on craigslist for $450 so I had to get it. The speeds are a lot better with the t879 but I do miss all of the options for custom roms that the i717 has.

[Q] Which Galaxy Tab?

I am considering purchasing a used/refurbed Galaxy Tab to use primarily as an e-reader. I won't be activating it on a carrier and will use it wifi-only. I have been browsing these forums for possible ROMs and OC kernels and find the organization very confusing versus the forums I'm used to (EVO, Nook Color, Thunderbolt) and I figure this is because there are so many different versions.
So, which is the best for OC and ROMs? It looks like the Sprint and Euro versions have 1.2-1.4Ghz overclock kernels available so should I look for a Sprint one? Do the Tmo,VZW, and ATT ones not have OC kernels?
Thanks!
Go for a GSM version. It has the most customizability at the moment.
Do all GSM ROMs work on all GSM tabs (Att, Tmo, Euro?). I liked the idea of putting a Sprint SGT on Boost Mobile and getting unlimited 3G for 11/mo but I probably will be using WiFi most of the time and 3G isn't a requirement as stated in OP.
Thats one of the resones I got the sprint version, I bought used one with bad esn on craigslist for $150.

mmm, if your device has a bad ESN, I thought it would not be possible to put it on Boost since Boost *is* Sprint and use the same ESN DB. Cricket or PagePlus would be possible, though...

The Sprint tab has generally been the easiest to get for the lowest price, modulo the once-blue-moon $200 AT&T refurb deal. You can easily find a Sprint tab on ebay for $250 or so.
I decided to spent a little more and get an AT&T tab, since it is GSM and supports Euro 3G bands. But in retrospect, not sure it matters that much. I thought I would want to flash custom Roms, which are mostly all GSM. But now I'm thinking just to wait for the official 2.3 release, in which case, the Sprint tab is probably going to be first (in a few days). Who knows when the AT&T release will be... they seem to be the slowest in such things.
But it is cute that I have been able to unlock my tab, stick in a cheapo Tmo SIM and do SMS and maybe voice with a little more work. Not sure I'd ever really use it though... Skype works excellent with Wifi...

You can flash a T-Mobo or AT&T into an Euro GSM.
I think you need to figure out what you want out of the Tab exactly to be able to decide which Tab to get.
If you will use it as an ebook reader then you don't really need OC. As a matter of fact the 3G Tab runs quite smooth at standard voltage if you choose a good ROM/kernel
oh i want it as an ereader. but it's gotta be a BADASS ereader. Light browsing/apps/games occasionally but I have a Thunderbolt and an ultra portable laptop (Thinkpad x220) for emails/voice/text/etc.
sounds like it's still kind of a mixed bag on which carrier and i should probably just go for whichever is cheapest?
I ended up getting a Sprint tab for cheap off craigslist. Waiting for a rooted Gingerbread ROM with overclock!
I did notice that the wifi version was underpowered so the carrier versions are recommend.

[Q] Samsung galaxy Note N7000 or i717?

Hello all,
I have been in the market for a Samsung galaxy note for a while now. I wanted to get the unlocked version of the phone since I am with T-Mobile. Now as I researched a little more about the phone I came to know there are two different versions which are N-7000 and i-717. Also as i came to find out the N-7000 version does not support T-mobile 4g. Most of my other research also came up with a result that everyone recommend N-7000 version over i-717 because of the processor. I personally like the N-7000 because of the center home button.
I came up with this thread where it flash's the radio of the note and I was being told by one of my friend that this will allow you to be able to use it with t-mobile 4g.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518962
As it says its only for att galaxy note so I am assuming this will not work with the international version of the note or the N-7000 version.
My job requires me to stay on the road most of the time and its really important I have high speed internet on the phone. I am from fort lauderdale, florida.
So my question is-
1. Which version of the phone should I buy?
2. The link posted above will this work with N-7000?
3. Is there any way to work the N-7000 with T-mobile 4g by flashing the radio or anything else?
4. If yes, can any of you please post a step by step instruction on how to make it work. If possible please be elaborate with your steps as I am super dumb when it comes to do hacking and all that.
5. Will the new N-7000 comes with ICS? Does that require any special thing to be done with the phone in order to work with the T-mobile 4g?
I really appreciate all your help in advance. I would be really honored if you guys can respond back as soon as possible.
Thanks
TASVIR
if your job requires fast internet, you should conclude your research and get the i717. The international note won't fit your life style. At this time, it will NOT support tmobile 4g.
Thanks.
But the i717 requires the flashing of the radio and unlocking as well to work with t-mobile 4g? Just like my link on the post mentioned?
you can unlock i717 by buying code online for $25 and about 10mins of time researching and flashing it. It's really easy. I've had i717 for tmobile myself and found out that i dont' need all the time internet. sold it...and got the n7000

So you had i-717 and then you sold it and got the n7000. If you dont mind me asking what made you switch? Is the phone is not worth all this? I am assuming now you are using the n7000 for tmobile's 3g? Hows the speed on that? if the speed is okay would you recommend n7000 over i717 based on the processors of the phones? does your n7000 required any rooting work with tmobile and its internet?
Have you looked around to see if T-Mobile is or will be offering 1900MHz HSDPA+ in your area? The N7000 supports 1900MHz on it's '3G' radio.
I just checked yes they do have 1900MHz in flortlauderdale. FL
Does this means the galaxy note N-7000 will work with t-mobile 3g as soon as I put the sim in the phone?
also
samsung-sgh-i717r-galaxy-note-lte-rogers-wireless from canada and at expansys they are selling it unlocked for 489$
Is this the same as the att galaxy note? with the root will it work with t mobile and its 4g network? I only ask cause this is cheaper than the att version of the note and it is Gnote SGH-i717R instead of Gnote SFH-i717.
This phone is driving me crazier than my ex-girlfriend.
I sold my i717 because I travel a lot oversea and I don't need the LTE feature. I sacrificed that for the better processor and smoothness. Also, I am around wifi most of the time...and I don't use much of internet when I am on the road. Speed wise, it's decent for my use....regular internet, email...and so forth. Not fast...but doable. It fits my life style better. Like I said, you've mentioned that you're on the road a lot that require fast internet access, so I suggested i717. As far as the 1900mhz in your area, don't count on it......you will need to experience it. Call tmobile and find out, or get 1900mhz phone and test it. heck you can even buy the n7000 and try....and if it doesn't work out, sell it and buy the at&t.

Thanks yellowpad. I saw a video on the snapdragon and exynos processor. Bit scary. If with high internet speed does not work because of the processor that would such a shame. I will get the N-7000 and try. I called t-mobile and found out they support 1900 in my area. Its a hit or miss situation. Would you reccomend any site to buy it from? I tried calling expansys for million times as they dont pick up the phone and they say they are #1 in customer satisfaction. LOL
I would just wait a month for the Tmobile version, I believe its coming out the first week of july. unless you dont care about data speeds, then get whatever, but I'd rather wait a few more days and have a fully compatible device in my hands, just my humble input!
As far as i know they have different CPUs and N7000 is supposed to handle hd videos and 3d graphics better. Also, N7000 seems to have better support over here simply because it's more popular.

Thanks for your input. You know I have been researching on that as well from last night. They are saying its coming out on the 11th of July. May be before that or after. Fully compatible with T-mobile network. I would wait for that before I get mine. Only thing that scares me is if it comes with the snapdragon processor. Which is a joke over exynos processor. You can go to youtube and check some of the video's of the differences.
Samsung also said to expect snapdragon processor on all the US bound phones. So at this point i guess we only have to keep our fingers crossed and wait for the best.

Yah the N-7000 comes with exynos processor and i-717 (ATT Version) comes with snapdragon. N-7000 has better processor but low speed data and ATT is high speed data but a very slow and unsophisticated processor (if you compare with the N-7000)... its just up to the customer if they would sacrifices data over processor?? In my case I WANT BOTH...

Does Samsung GT-N7000 (International) work with Tmobile USA 4G?
Hi guys,
So far I have a been reading around and not really find an exact answer.
Let me ask some questions one more time.
1. Can Samsung GT-N7000 (International Version) be flash with Tmobile radio 4G to make it work with Tmobile USA 4G?
2. Anyone using a Working Samsung N7000 flashed Tmobile Radio 4G? If so, which area of USA?
Someone please be kind and advice.
Thanks in advance

[Q] Can Galaxy Note GT-N7000 work with Tmobile USA 4G/HSPA+?

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000.
Can someone tell me if it's possible to flash a Tmobile Radio Modem to get Tmobile USA 3G/4G/HSPA+?
I know it's been confirmed that an AT&T Galaxy Not i717 will work with Tmobile 4G/HSPA+ if it's properly flashed with Tmobile modem.
Has anyone tried the method like this link below but flashed to an GT-N7000 (International Version):
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...e-3g4g-hspa-on-your-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717/
Please help because I don't want to take the risk to brick my Note N7000.
TIA
Does not work. Tmo in usa is limited to 2g only except in tiny pockets where tmo has installed the frequencies used by att on their own network. This is supposedly mostly for iphone users on tmo, and may be extended. But aside from these tiny pockets, 2g ONLY.

hmm N7000 and the I717 have totally different hardware radios and other internal stuffs....
I think 2G means EDGE. Flashing Tmo modem on an unlock N7000 'might' work in receiving 3G/4G HSPA* but it might a the end of the day, change back to Edge again....
What that guy on your video showed is he can get 4G signals on Tmo but the big question on that is... is it always persistent throughout at the end of the day (that his phone can get the real thing?)
My take, don't install something that's only a temporary fix if it just means temporary only....

Which Version of the Note works with T-Mobile?

I am looking at getting a black Samsung Galaxy Note. With the Note 2 coming out, I figure I can get a good deal. Problem is, I want one that works well with T-Mobile bands. I heard some only use EDGE network on T-Mobile. There is an ATT version, a US version, and an International version?
Any help would be appreciated. I am selling my brand new white Galaxy S2 and my brand new myTouch 4G (U8680) to get a note. I love the SGS2, but have always wanted to try a 5"+ screen phone. Thanks.
This is the n7000 forum. I ise mine on tmo but it only gets edge.
The att version works on tmo hspa+ speeds but requires a hack to get it to work. See that forum for full details.

Short version:
Get an AT&T Note.
Unlock it
Root it and install CWM
Install the T-mobile Modem file via CWM.
I'm running an AT&T Note this way and I have full 4G.

ATT Galaxy Note 1 (i717) on T-mobile?

Anyone done this? There seems to be some gray area on data services. I don't mind flashing a new rom to obtain 4G, which ive read one person has done.
Anyone accomplished this move?
Yes a lot of us have done this... Im running stock tmobile ics wth blaze modem.. Om my att note

Hi. As long as you have the correct modem to pull in 3g/4g you can run any rom- tmobile or att. I have the modem UVLG3modemfori717_gt-n7005amss. Works just as good as Blaze for me.
Ran Jedi and was very happy with it. Now am running Jedi-sons of android(att by ptmr3) 4.2.2

that's the main reason I stick with stock rom [mine sgh-t879], rooted, and way debloated.
fabulous device really. 2 days of batt life [i turn it off when I sleep], lean, mean, fast, beautiful.
I use wifi exclusively in home home-office and every other place I get a chance, which as everyone knows is an increasingly long list.
the only 'bug' I have at the moment is something sporadically defeating NoLED which I use for notifications, and that Noozozide [a fabulous app] doesn't like something in there... probably the google play player. haven't had time to sort that yet.
I was reading that the tmo wifi app was figured out to work on another android phone(can't remember what one)- they altered the build prop and hacked the apk. Too bad no one is interested in doing this for the ATT note There are so few ATT Notes running on tmobile. Once they are out of contract- another year or so, and they will be moving on to newer phones. Jedi4 worked for me as far as wifi calling- but I have no need at present for the wifi calling feature, but it is great when you need it!
I was looking into the new tmo uncarrier plans and thinking about getting the iphone5 to add to my android collection- but no wifi calling for it. At least not initially, and they are being coy about future plans for it. If I am gonna get a new tmobile phone it should have wifi calling. Am going to europe in the fall and it will come in handy!
I love my note- really do, but there are times I would love a smaller phone to slip into my pocket and go. The Note is huge- at times a great thing, at times a not so great thing. New Iphone will rescue my itunes and make music an easier managed thing on the computer. Doubletwist and air sync just isn't the same. Might have to get my apple hacking tools sharpened!
the sgh-t879 is just fabulous and a bit of a bargain, though the i717 is typically a tad less in pristine condition.
As far as I know samsung T-mo variants have the Wifi calling very solid but I don't know what to expect going international - you obviously need a world phone multi-band.
we have the SII, the "S 4G" and the Note - all deliver the beans well on wifi. The Blaze does also and is the better choice vs. the S 4G, as we've found out.
I understand what you mean about smaller size - you may have to go Nexus but I despise the fixed battery [the life is not great...do not let anyone fool you] and lack of removable storage. if you want to go cheap, get the LG optimus L9... its a great phone to use just out of the box debloated: wifi is excellent. the knock is there's not many hacks for it since LG made it difficult. those can be had for 250 bucks and sold for nearly the same as it gets terrific user reviews. around here [austin tx, san antonio etc] some steals come around on craigslist ... people get those with a contract upgrade for free, then sell on c'list to go buy a note or some other thing. have seen new ones for $175

I just wanted to chime in for a moment. I acquired a att note from eBay a couple of weeks ago and I am running the jedi 4 ROM and WIFI calling is great with no hiccups. It's fast and beautiful. Now mind you I am coming from a gs2 before the jellybean upgrade. In fact the second day my wife had the gs2 was when the update was pushed out. Moving on since I am rambling, i love my note it fits right in with my nexus 7. The only thing I wish was that jellybean was out officially I require WiFi calling......

Access LTE on T-Mobile
Hi just wanted to chime in. If T-Mobile has LTE in your area, you can access it by using the stock AT&T Rom and Modem. Just root it and Debloat it. Here's some of the speeds I've been able to get. The only thing, When I'm sitting at my desk at work, I have to switch to a different modem to pick up 3G and HSPA+ (21.6 Mb/S) I will say every test that I did using the stock AT&T modem was higher than any other modem I used.
Everyone seems to be talking about wifi calling.. how well does normal calling work? how is the signal over all? is it worth it to get an AT&T version and try to use the blaze modems instead of getting the T-Mobile version?
Just use jedi leader ics 4.0.4 it has wifi calling and stable...for tmobile version...
