Orange and T-Mobile phones don't need unlocking if used on each others network

Yeah, very technically, Orange and T-Mobile don't exist anymore. My GF's S3 says "EE" on it now.

yeh they do seem to work with t-mobile in and my mrs put her o2 sim in and that works as well ... was told they were locked but seems to be working fine on orange , o2 and t-mobile which is lucky as no body seems to know how to unlock the LTE 4g models yet...

Hi mate, did you buy your S3 LTE from Orange Pay as you go and managed to use a o2 Sim card without unlocking?
As I'm planning on getting the same phone but using my o2 sim card, if you can confirm this that would be great
Also is there an Orange splash screen on start up of the phone, how much Orange branding is there?
Cheers

Good to hear!
I thought Orange would put their own ROM/branded software onto the phone as the S3 LTE appears to be exclusive to orange at the moment.
Thanks for your info, think I'm going to order my S3 LTE titanium tonight from Orange

Mate I ordered my i9305 from orange on pay as you natter on 9 October - still haven't got it yet. Not sure if I'm particularly unlucky of if the titanium version is just out of stock but I've chased them twice and checking online it just says order is being readied for dispatch. When i made the order it said on the receipt it would be sent out within 2 days but that was clearly a lie!
Would be interested to know how quickly yours arrives. Also how are people getting hold of the t-mob payg version? I thought it was only available from orange online on payg...

I have a spare GiffGaff sim, shall give it a try when my handset arrives, my e-mail said it would arrive with me on Monday, though not received a dispatch e-mail yet.

i bought mine in a t-mobile shop for £449 the gun metal gry as well. never wanted to wait for the post lol

Yesterday I bought titanium i9305 from ee store and cancelled my order from orange online, should have done it weeks ago.
Bought an unlock code from mobileunlocked, cost 15 quid and phone was unlocked and using giffgaff SIM in less than 20 mins.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app

I would presume the Orange branded model would be SIM locked to their network I suggest this as normally orange phones except early releases of the Samsung E900 were locked.
Probably you are right and i know it before asked but from what i searched on this forum nobody has confimed that yet. That is why I'm asking is there anybody who can confirm that Diamond from Orange is simlocked?
hang on ill check mine
Thanks, waiting.
I'am sorry but the Orange Diamond are simlocked
Ok, thanks.
yep mine turned up today from orange locked, however tried the isim and it now works on the three network no problem
i'd say that 99% of phones sold by cellphone companys under contract are locked
otherwise they'd loose money selling them cheaper

TD2 Is there a sim unlock?

Hi,
Getting the td2 on o2uk. just wondered if there was a sim unlock available for this? as i want to use on orange. If so where ?
I obviously don't mind paying.

Where are you getting it from? I got mine from Carphonewarehouse (through one of the companies they own) and it was unlocked.
My one is from Mobilephonesdirect and it is unlocked.

Just out of curiosity, what was the cost for the tp2 through Telstra?
Can I just confirm that all of the custom ROMs on xda for the TP2 actually work with the Telstra version?
The Telstra ROM has a few nice apps like Jetcet Print (for mobile printing) and Jetcet Presenter (for editing Powerpoint slides). Telstra ROM also has some free goodies like WhereIs which let you download the maps with no data charge. And there are free BigPond news, Yellow Pages, Sensis, etc....

I can use the European OEM ROM and it won't be any problem, even though it's for an EU device when putting it on an AU device?

did you buy your phone from Telstra? is your phone SIM unlocked? If you bought it from Telstra then it is not an unlocked phone and you will have to pay to have it unlocked. you will still be able to HSPL and flash but your phone won't work. You can pay Telstra a fee and they will unlock it for you or you can go on this forum and find the unlocking thread, you still will have to pay them.

Does your phone have the 3G 850/2100 bands? How does the 850 band work on AT&T in the US? I'm so damn tired of waiting for AT&T to come out with the Touch Pro 2.
Also, where'd you get the phone?
I'm using Optus with my T-mobile TP2 in Hobart and its work really well.

It was recently posted in the TP2 Rom section on that "other" HTC forum.
BTW - For any impatient folks like me in U.S., I'm using the Telstra TP2 for full 3G on AT&T with no problems!

Have you changed or edited the radio to work better on the AT&T network?
I'm having problems connecting when I'm in downtown Toronto (I'm from Canada, using the Telstra TP2 on Rogers) but I don't know if it's because of the phone, or my service provider and their 'known connectivity issues'...
I see that there is a version of the AT&T radio to change to, have you resorted to that to perhaps enhance or 'upgrade' your HSPA 850mhz radio?

[Q] Galaxy S3 Gt-i9305 on orange?

Hi
I have been a member of the site for a while but haven't really posted due to having a iPhone only visiting when i was given phones to fix and such that were android. i am making the jump away from the apple handcuffs and would like some information about stock roms and unlocking.
i want to get the GT-I9305 but cant seem to get hold of one from a what i deem a reputable supplier. i have decided to go to an orange store and but the locked version on pay as you go. i have found someone that offers unlock solutions over eBay for about a tenner im not too keen on rooting just yet for warranty purposes.
the main issue is i don't want all the orange software on it i want to go to the stock firmware. can this be done easily without voiding warranty? what about over the air updates will these come through just as normal as if it is a stock phone. i am only sceptical as im used to the iPhone and jail-breaking and unlocks that are not permanent.
can anybody help me out with these points to put me at ease.
Thanks
Dan

Yes if stock roms are available for that model .
what about over the air updates will these come through just as normal as if it is a stock phone.
Not as normal you no longer have the same firmware .
Two routes wait for Orange to update to JB and stick with official updates .
Or join XDA users flash stock unbranded rom ( does not void Samsungs warranty ) and update the same way instead of waiting for Orange to update .
Note stock updates/flashing does not require root .
see the Stickies page one .

plus if anybody is put off with the orange website saying the galaxy s3 lte is out of stock i can assure you that when ordered they are allocating the stock straight away and i ordered this afternoon and have been given a delivery date for the 12th of october.
Thanks for your help

I totally understand your concerns. I have had mine for two days and can honestly say that it hasn't come with loads of (cr)apps from orange. I was flabbergasted!
However, it has come with the usual tonne of Samsung bloat but i think that will come wherever you get the phone from.
I put apex launcher on because touch wiz is terrible. S-voice sucks balls! Other than that i'm in love with the phone and i'm not even going to bother to root or custom rom it because it works so well. Not sure how long that will last but nothing bugs me about the phone.
Hope this helps. If you want me to check anything on my phone, just ask.

My galaxy s3 i9305 is arriving tomorrow from orange and I wish to unlock it. Has anybody had any success off any websites as most list i9300 as the model?
Thanks
Dan[/QUOTE]
Ive used this site before for iPhone. and they have Galaxy S3 LTE listed? http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/unlock/index.php
In the drop down select Samsung as manufacturer and in model drop doqn look for Galaxy S3 LTE. If unsure try asking them I remember communication was excellent!
I just bought my Samsung Galaxy S III LTE Titanium today and I was also wondering how to I go about unlocking my phone because Orange sucks balls I want to use my current giffgaff SIM.
Is it possible to unlock without rooting?
If not what's the best guide to root a i9305?
Once rooted how do I unlock my phone?
Also I heard flashing custom firmware can increase a binary counter that is used to invalidate the warranty on the phone?
Is it possible to reset this counter back to 0 so it still appears that it's within warrranty?
Thanks in advance, xda is awesome.

I bought the Galaxy S3 LTE version from the Orange shop yesterday and can confirm there is a working unlock out there as I am now using my 3 sim card...for £10.95!
The unlock was purchased on eBay (add on to the eBay URL): /itm/Unlock-Code-4-UK-Samsung-Galaxy-S-3-LTE-GT-I9305-4G-Orange-T-Mobile-All-Networks-/170923288428
If the link doesn't work, the title is 'Unlock Code 4 UK Samsung Galaxy S-3 LTE GT-I9305 4G Orange T-Mobile All Networks' and is sold by a seller called 'specialize' and I received my code after 30 minutes. :good:

Unlocking=Lost waranty?
Hi,
I've called today Orange to ask if I will lose the waranty in case I unlock the S3 because I do not want to wait 3 months for them to unlock it.
They said YES i will lose the waranty.Any ideeas why and what alse can I do
Regards,
Orange branding on my titanium LTE is surprisingly non existent but the normal Samsung bloat is still there.
If the warranty is with Samsung & the phone shows unlocked on their database ( after eBay member has done it)
How can Samsung not honour the warranty?, surely you don't need to involve orange or am I mistaken?
I bought mine from Orange a fortnight ago and there is no Orange branding at all anywhere on the device
Soon as you buy your 4G s3 and you want root etc.... well follow this guide very closley

Couple of Noob questions if I may.
I want to get the I9305 LTE rather than the I9300 in the UK as the I9305 has 2GB RAM and DC-HSDPA which the I9300 doesn't, but:-
1 - Will a 3G sim work in the I9305 (obviously not at LTE speed)
2 - Is there a higher battery drain on the I9305 with a 3G Sim than on the I9300 (i.e. will it scan for LTE signal, draining battery, even if the sim doesn't support LTE)?

1. Yes will work no problem but you may have to unlock your phone if it is locked to a network. I had to sim unlock mine as it was on tMobile.
2. No it will not. In fact with the right rom and some of Samsungs rubbish removed I get much better battery life then I ever did on the I9300.
Can't you pay Orange a fee to get a carrier unlock code? You unlock your phones after having them for 3 months on contract for FREE.

Orange branding?

Hi,
If I buy this phone from Orange/EE does anyone know what extra rubbish comes with the phone that they put on?
Or is it still pretty much the same as if I bought a generic one from somewhere like Amazon?

It will be branded and so will get delayed updates. If you want an unbranded one that's still subsidized by a contract go to Carphone Warehouse or Phones4U.
Also you could buy an unbranded one from this site called LambdaTek. Site looks bad but It's where I got mine from and its cheaper than CPW

Thanks for that. Although once you add on postage it's only £2.50 more to buy it from Amazon and I know that they have a great returns policy (just in case!)

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware that it will be branded. I'm just wondering exactly what the difference would be on an Orange branded phone. If the delayed updates are the only difference then that doesn't bother me too much but if they add loads of Orange software or disable things then that matters more to me.

I don't know if they would disable WiFi tethering...that's the only thing I can think of them possibly wanting to disable. Maybe someone else knows.
Orange have indeed disabled the WiFi hotspot functionality.
I found a thread which showed how to amend the APN settings to re-allow the hotspot to work but the APN's are locked.
The solution is to create a new APN using the details from the below link and now the hotspot works perfectly.
