The phone is thicker, has less space, offers no removable battery, and is made by LG....why would anyone want this? Android 4.2 is going to be good, nothing more than an incremental update, but this phone just seems less and less exciting by the day.

Edited. Im not even gon say anything.

Very dissapointed about the lag in android 4.2. The Nexus 4 has like 2x better hardware than Galaxy Nexus and the performance seems to be the same. Look at the recent apps list when it came up and look at chrome. also, opening the app drawer has the same lag as Galaxy Nexus.
Very dissapointed.

My Galaxy Nexus is 32gb AND has LTE. Rumors say the N4 won't have LTE.
Seriously, you are blinded by the blogs creating hype. Sit back and take a look at the phone. Its only an incremental update to the Galaxy Nexus. In fact, I would go as far to say its a downgrade. LG has a track record of being a horrible manufacturer and if you've ever used the LG revolution you know exactly what I'm talking about. Yes, the S4 Pro sounds great, but we saw this video and performance doesn't look improved at all. I'm honestly disappointed in Google. I feel like they are rushing a Nexus device out because of the iPhone 5 and iPad mini.
I don't know about you, but I'll be buying whatever HTC has to offer for 2013. They really showed me this year that they are back and better.

I think you are blinded by rage that Verizon won't be getting this. You have 32GB and LTE. That is awesome, but the rest of the world outside the US did not get that. So they are not missing what they never had. I am saddened Verizon is not getting this device, but at the same time I recognize that this is a pretty decent upgrade to the Gnex.
You cannot make judgements on a device from blurry cams, photochops, press photos, prototypes, or less than 2 minute videos.
There have been several discussions on why Android is not smooth like a baby's butt. I think you and others have chosen to ignore them however.

Whoever thinka this phone is a downgrade to the GN are obvious haters. The GN hardware wise sucked at the time it came out with a dual TImap 1.2 ghz cpu, 5 mp camera and no LTE. Now we are having a phone with a way better non lithuim battery, newest IPS technology screen with way less bezel then the GN, the best CPU and GPU in the game right now, newest android OS and the same storage space as the GN GSM had when it came out. They akready explained why LTE will not be supported for years to come on a GSM Nexus device because Google does not wanna make any contracts wuth any cell phone provider to provide 4G to their unlocked phone. What is the problem trolls? Your just gonna move on it it anyway. Give me my 16GB white LG 4!

I had to do it.. It was needed specially after the iphone 5 comparison video I got a lot of pms and requests so I had both of them at home and said..why not?
Remember..this is not stock vs stock, however a ROM'd s3 but for the purpose of the video I think it works just fine

Galaxy s3 is for a general population who are inclined to buy stuff form ads but have no idea what an Android is.

SO DAMN TRUE!!!
And you see people saying oh look how fast it is, and the previous device was a nokia with flashlight or an iphone
WTH! -_-
For my two pence worth I had the s3 went back to my gnex awaiting the n4. I love just stock. Also I agree with the comment above about going back to operator logos on handsets. Its hideous. I know why they do it but its horrid. As for the s3 it was very very fast and more than enough for most but after 4 months of use and adding all my stuff to the device it did slow a bit. Not a huge amount by any means but for hard core users it was there plus I couldn't live with the dismal redraw issue when coming out of apps yo the home screen . I know the Gnex is far from perfect but besides battery life I would have the Gnex as my every day phone anytime. So I decided to go for the n4 as my main phone for the next year as it should perform just the same but look better and have a bit more use with the bigger battery although I know tests don't show it being much better. A little would do me. Anyway awesome video and thank you for taking the time to do it

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. For a user like myself in the states, the lack of LTE was the deciding factor for me between the GSIII and N4. I wouldn't call myself general population and I know what Android is, lol.

Galaxy series is brilliant, but touchwiz is a piece of shyte next to stock android. Also there's no substitute for getting updates on time.
The Nex 4 looks nice, but not having a removable battery like my old EvoLTE and only having 16GB of storage without the ability to upgrade are killers for me. The GS3 development community is Legit as well. I only have 4GB left on my microSD and 3GB left on my onboard 16GB GS3. The battery and storage issues are a Fail IMHO for the Nex4. There is no way I could use it as my everyday camera, video recorder, offline music player, and document storage device. Also, when traveling out of town, you realize how much having extra batteries around makes things a whole lot easier, especially when you are using your phone as a GPS and listening to your offline music on flights (I did have the mobile battery juice device when I had the EvoLTE but it really didn't help).
I use Nova Launcher and HD Widgets so no need for TouchWiz. I will say the Sense and TouchWiz Calendar and Appointments look and function way better than the stock Android Calendar.

That is truly one of the most ignorant statements I've seen on xda in quite some time...and there have been a bunch lately. Besides having more storage, LTE, removable battery, nicer camera and more options...yea, I'll stick with my "general population" phone...Lol. I had the Galaxy Nexus for a while and just left the One X for the Note 2 (similar to the S3...that's why I chimed in)...the first thing I do with any of my Android phones (this is my 6th) is change to Nova Launcher...so while pure Android had it's advantages a year or more ago, that is far from the case now with the heavy duty processors being offered in combination with these launchers. I have debloated my phone, run Nova and also have all the little motion gadgets that are actually useful that are not options on pure Google. It's nice to be able to call someone within a text conversation just by putting the phone to your face or to have the screen automatically stay on as long as you're looking at it. These are features that I actually consider highly useful in the real world. Flame away, but with today's processing power and Samsung's openness to bootloader unlocking and dev community, I actually consider pure Google to be a step backwards FOR ME.
Glad that you guys are starting to get your phones though. I canceled after I received the bo email.

I got a SGH-I747 from Telus. Paid $0 for it.
It's "only" a dual core, but it has 2 gigs of RAM. And not a single logo on the front.
I'm running CM10 on it. With the 4.2 keyboard and camera/gallery. So maybe I don't know what Android is all about.
I might still get a N4 if Google ever allows me to buy one. But for now, I'm enjoying my S3 very much.

I love my Nexus and exclusively buy Nexus brand phones ever since the Nexus S, but I wouldn't call the GS3 just a device for the general consumer. Its component sheet is very good and is still considered a high end phone several months after its release. It does have some good dev support (though Samsung could be a lot more helpful with getting more info about their processors out there) and considering many chose that device after the Galaxy Nexus failed to impress when it was finally announced. Personally I prefer stock Android but there are a couple features I wouldn't mind cherrypicking from the S3 like screenshots, tap to top, and not having the screen go to sleep when you're looking at it. Having sais that, the phone I chose is definately the right one for me and I belive it to be superior to the S3. Also it will be supported longer than the S3 from Google and the dev community.

i have played around with my friend's Note 2 for a whole day and i decided to install Nova to see if stock Android isn't worth it anymore. it turns out it is. Nova + Touchwiz was not as stable or fast (by that i mean touch responsiveness) as my Galaxy Nexus. i wanted to believe it since i am paying almost as much for the Nexus 4 and i really appreciate the Note 2's battery but i just wasn't convinced.
Hmmm... I've sold my SGS2 and waited for N4 but.... SOLD OUT...
This gave me more time to think about and I've realized that getting N4 was like step back to me.. Didn't want to end up like all iPhone users... Easy to break glass all around, very limited storage and non-removable battery.. I'm Not saying N4 is bad but it's Not perfect... (to me not even close to perfect...)
Android Support will be better for N4 and the Hardware is slightly better but I'm very happy with what I've got. It runs super smooth, using GO launcher, 2GB RAM makes a huge difference comparing to S3 tho.

No More Nexus 4.

I tried to like this phone, but I have come to the realization that I just don't. No bumper, charging mat or screen protector has helped me enjoy it anymore. Getting this device to work correctly on at&t is a nightmare, I'm having connection issues to this day. No apn, imei or change of plan has fixed it. The phone has light bleed, which is frustrating to look at and buzzing which is annoying to hear. Rma is not my thing it takes to long and I've heard to many horror stories.
Stock android is nice though I feel the experience of say the note 2 is better. I'd rather have a skinned version of android and then when I am looking for a vanilla look and feel I can ROM aokp or cm 10 which seems to be the better version of stock android anyway with added utility and customizations.
Think my run with at&t and my nexus is over. Time for a new beginning with Verizon LTE which is available 100% in my area where at&t is not and I think I'm going with a droid DNA.

Good choice man! this device is not for everyone :good:
As for me AT&T works fine in my area, never had any problems. Had a few friends not getting signal earlier with their sprint iphones and I let them use mine to make a call :silly:
Hey man, it's your choice! Pure capitalistic decision here. You are not satisfied with the device, which you have every right to feel that way. It doesn't fit your needs and you like the Note 2. You don't need some AOSP zealots approval to move on. I hate AT&T personally. They treat you like crap, and though they are the No.2 carrier, with GSM, I wouldn't go back to them for all the tea in China. If I was a high roller, I might consider Verizon as they hands down have the best coverage in the USA. Their 3g is slower than my T-Mobile... and even sometimes their LTE, but good luck getting ANY 3g coverage in upstate NY (aunt lives there) on T-Mobile outside Rochester proper. If you would be served better with a Verizon Note 2, go there brother and be happy with your purchase! I personally don't want to go back to touchwiz (been AOSP too long), but the phone is awesome! Has a beautiful screen, expandable storage, great processor, 2nd best Android battery life (Razr HD Maxx being No.1), S-Pen, multi-window multitasking, etc.
Don't think you have to have a Nexus or the acceptance of the Nexus crowd. Vote with your bucks and your feet. Wish you well with the Note 2.
Are you going to sell the Nexus?
I personally have had zero issues on AT&T via Straight Talk and love this device. I would highly recommend sticking with a GSM provider though, if you have service in your area, T-Mobile perhaps? As GSM unlocked devices gives one much more freedom to move carriers, plus, I suffered hell with Verizon, they are by far one of the worst companies I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with; never again.
Either way, good luck.
It's called T mobile?
I honestly never see the purpose of these threads. The forum isn't your personal blog. And I don't think any body necessarily has any care what you're saying (as mentioned previously by the person who said cool story bro). If you don't like the phone that's fine, just be on your way. Received Nexus.......Selling this week. Nexus VS TAB 2 7 3G

I have been going around and around with these devices. I got the TAB 2 7 P3100 3G from the wife for Christmas after researching both. I could not make up my mind and Christmas was coming quickly so I asked her for the more expensive P3100 (LOL) and I already have a samsung device in the Note 2.
But was still very interested in the Nexus since I have been reading nothing but great things about it. Now this may not be a fair comparison because the TAB is a 3G device that is invisible to my carrier ATT. However I will put that aside and share my impressions after playing with the Nexus solely for the last day and a half.
When I initially put the TAB 2 next to my Note, my jaw dropped at the "washed out" colors on the TAB compared to the Note 2. This lit the Nexus fire and I had to get one now especially since I read and heard nothing but great things about the Nexus screen, When I saw a One day only sale at the Adorama Store on Ebay on New Years day for $229 shipped I jumped at it and ordered an accessories package on Ebay (which has yet to arrive). I immediately put the TAB on Ebay for a high "Buy It Now only price (in the "unlikely" event i would not like the Nexus 7) I am glad now no one bought it after playing with the Nexus over the past couple days.
Initially I loved the all black look of the Nexus with the screen off vs the framed TAB. (small meaningless detail) I also appreciated the slightly narrower form factor and feel of the back cover. The glass was perfect. No build issues here. Looked great although I am not the type who "wears" my phones and devices. I use them.
I immediately unlocked it, flashed a custom recovery and flashed ParanoidAndroid on it. Very nice. I played with it for a day or so. This afternoon I finally I put the TAB side by side with the Nexus and found the Nexus was faster but not all that much. Not enough to say "wow" Certainly not as much as I thought it would be.
What stopped me in my tracks and gave me major pause was when I put the same picture up on the Nexus I initially compared with my Note 2 and had all three side by side. The Note was still much better. No suprise there. But this time the TAB and Nexus were very much the same. The Nexus was not as I had expected. The colors were not nearly as saturated as the Note and in fact almost identical to the TAB on all screen brightness settings In fact I could not tell them apart from a color saturation standpoint. I could however appreciate the denser pixel count on the Nexus when zooming in especially. But Needless to say i expected a much much better screen color quality and much much closer to the Note 2 in color quality. The Note 2 screen is amazing I guess.
USB OTG worked great on both but I don't need it on the TAB with 70GB of usable storage. vs <30GB. I initially had issue with the 64GB card in the TAB which pushed me into the nexus as well early on. But that has been solved. That along with the 3G and phone abilities of the TAB leading me to decide the TAB was the better of the two to keep for my needs.
Initially I thought the choices of ROMs the Nexus development community offered would be a plus but I usually find one ROM and stick with it. I can always get the CM 10 and AKOP ROMS for the TAB along with the TW ROMs.
The front camera on the Nexus is not as good as the rear camera on the TAB although the difference was about as much as the front cameras between the TAB and Nexus. All of them are nothing special. (although I am old enough to remember when 3MB camera was a great addition to a phone!!)
The thing I did like about the Nexus is the USB port but I have loaded up with Samsung "proprietary" USB Cables
and OTG accessories.
All that said the TAN IS A 3g devices and a phone. IF The TAB were the US non 3G model the decision would be much harder. But I would likely lean in its direction because I am used to Samsungs recovery and download modes (although Fastboot took all of 30 seconds to figure out) I expected a whole lot more from the color density and the screen on the Nexus, At the end of the day the additional storage along with the camera possibilities won me over. I am not a gamer so the quad core would likely not be a factor although I did run Need for Speed on the TAb to test it initially and it ran fine.
This is not a knock on the Nexus. It is a great device and for the money the best on paper. but for me anyway the difference were not enough to give up the advantages of the extra storage and free phone and 3G capability, which I could have done anyway using the Note as a hot spot with the Nexus,

Yeah I really didn't pay much attention to the screen specs. I assumed the Nexus would be much better than the TAB likely because of the Pixel density if nothing else. I think if Google/Asus would have put ExtSD capability, headset microphone, and maybe even a better front camera, I would keep the Nexus for the form factor alone.
Once all the 360 case and the rest of the Nexus candy gets here I will throw it all up on Ebay. Thankfully there are AKOP ROMS available for the Samsung.

Just be lucky you weren't like me.
Bought the Acer iconia a110, was cheap and had similar specs to n7 with hdmi out and sdcard slot.
Played with it for a bit....turned out it wasn't for me. Screen looked terrible, it weighed quite abit more than my 7, brought it back (was an 8gb model) to find the nexus 7 calling my name. I bought the 32gb model with no regrets, great device for the price in my opinion.
Edit : I always see people are complaining about the n7 not having a back camera, seriously a tablet is no device meant for mad photography. Get a nikkon or some **** lol. Front camera is 'OK' Good enough for my Skype calls with my lady
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I wouldn't have minded a back camera on the N7 for Skype. My wife travels a lot and when we Skype I use my phone so I can flip back and forth on the cameras so she can see our baby playing and generally being cute. I could also imagine in the business world it would be useful to show clients whatever in a video conference call. Even if it was a cheap 2.0 megapixel camera, that would have been fine.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I think the N7 is a great tablet, one of the best and considered the best by some users. You can run almost any app/game without any lag and if you overclock the cpu, it will be even more powerful. First, I wanted to buy a more expensive device, but I looked over N7's performance and price and this was my final choice. I don't regret it!
Lol I hope you are okay with waiting forever for a new update and having your device stop being updated after about a year. Sorry but its just the cold hard truth. We will keep getting updates as son as they are released for quite a while but Samsung has quite a reputation for slacking on updates and dropping devices soon after release.
Sent from my LG-C729 using xda app-developers app
Nice review, but you left out one of the most important aspects of any comparison: price. You make it sound like the Tab and the N7 are on equal footing in almost all aspects, but when one costs almost twice what the other costs and you leave that fact out, you are doing a disservice to the readers. On that basis, this is not a fair comparison. I bought the N7 over the Tab 2 because I didn't want or need 3G and I didn't want or need to spend close to $500 for what I wanted a tablet for. When I compared all the specs and credible reviews, the N7 was perfect for my needs and budget. It has not disappointed.
The p3100 runs on your att, which is great. Swap Sims and you're good to go. Since this is the GSM you have a lot more Dev support than the CDMA variant. AOKP is there as well as CM. They have it oc to 1.4 as well. If this suits your needs then run with it, more power to you. I like to stay on the newest builds, that's why I chose what I did. After having many phones by HTC and Samsung and constantly having to choose what I can live without (newest build, working camera, reboots, etc.) I bought a galaxy nexus so I don't constantly wait on manufacturer and carrier hold ups (like my note skyrocket evo, evo 3D) and I am happy. Which is why I went with the nexus 7. When I first saw the HTC jetstream and Samsung note 10.1 I had the itch to buy them. Luckily I didn't, the jetstream is and will forever be on honeycomb and there hasn't been any major Dev work for a year. If you don't need to have the latest and greatest as soon as you can get your paws on it then go with the tab, I would have huge regrets if I chose the one that may not get the next release.
Anyways that's my 2¢ either way you can't go wrong if that is what suits your needs in a 7".
On a side note, you can always eBay your note and tab and get the 3g note 10.1 just food for thought

QUOTE=AFAinHD;36401781]Lol I hope you are okay with waiting forever for a new update and having your device stop being updated after about a year. Sorry but its just the cold hard truth. We will keep getting updates as son as they are released for quite a while but Samsung has quite a reputation for slacking on updates and dropping devices soon after release.

You can't be serious. There are nightlies available for the Galaxy Tab as well from CyanogenMod and Milestone. I have never had a device where I'd depended on the manufacturer for updates. Always went with developers. And sometimes the updates are not all that good I would never downloaded the OTA 4.2 update on my Nexus 7 after running it on the tab in having all kinds of Bluetooth issues. The first thing it wanted to do when I fired it up was download that update. I did not selective it. I'll let the new user decide.

I completely agree and I mentioned that but on the face of it the Galaxy Tab 7 without 3g would still be a better choice for me for the reasons I indicated. But I only spent $350 dollars for the Tab 3G. Nowhere near $500. I read a lot of reviews and read this area of X DA, for a long time and decided I needed to have them both in front of me to make a decision. Which took about 2 days.

Oh I thought about that Note, 3G 10.1 but I don't want to carry around a tablet that big I bought one of those for my wife for Christmas as a musician she can use it for the playback tracks or sheet music and replace little Acer she's currently using or at least have a good Backup. I would love to see the Note come in a 6 inch phone version. I wouldn't need both the tablet and phone. In the meantime there's no way I would get rid of the Note 2.

that's not what i'm saying. We own a flagship device. Not only do we get the updates instantly, google releases the updates on their website with source so developers can make roms with ease. Its a lot easier to make a ROM for the latest update when google has given you the newest update source code already optimized for your device on a silver platter.

It sounds like you've already thought of all the different angles, and your mind's made up. Like I said fortunately it's not the CDMA version, my friend bought one and there really isn't any Dev love for that thing. Enjoy your tab 2!

I used to have the galaxy tab 2 7.0. Had a kernel for it and everything. Unfortunately it was by far the slowest device i had ever used. Slower than my S2 single core HTC incredible and the graphics performance was pretty bad too. CM helped by fixing the graphics drivers and eliminating TW bloat, but it didnt help enough to make me happy with it.
But if you enjoy the Tab2 then go ahead and keep it and enjoy it. Don't let these N7 fanboys phase you

A true Google fanboy is a nexus fanboy.
And a true nexus fanboy is a nexus 7 fanboy
And vice-versa.
So one implies the other assuming "true" fanboyism.

Curious

Anyone else really happy they got the nexus 4 instead of S4 or ONE ?
Pure android aside'.
I'm saying this cause all the issues & what not that the S4 & ONE seem to be having.
Just noticing a lot of issues with both!
Neither have lived up to all the hype about them!
I wanted the one . but didn't want to wait so i got the N4 ...
Note that I have held the one in my hands , it's a nice phone, its aluminum . but just seems cheap. Not nearly as cool or nice as what 'I' expected.

I've always wanted a nexus because of it being pure Google Android. I'm happy I finally got one. I love the phone.
It's kind of early to say the one and s4 have "a lot" of issues. The s4 from at&t has an unlockable bootloader, that's a bummer but not a shocker. It was said to be locked before it was released. I haven't heard of issues with the one. But that's just me.
Every phone has its "issues". It really boils down to if you personally like the hardware, looks, and software

I do like my Nexus 4 but in my case its all about updates and support. Here in Brazil its common to NEVER receive updates. When the updates are supposed to be released the brand already have another new phone that they want you to buy instead of just update your phone.
Most of the people here does not even know what a Nexus is. When people asks me about my phone is funny because when I say "Nexus 4" I can see the "wtf is that" face.

Lol nice.. I littery just realized last night I'm not happy with any other phone.. I played with a bunch of androids , iPhones, windows phones yesterday .
They had cool features . some have a cool design. But for me that's as far as it went. I was bored within 5min of each.
I know I won't have the whole 'experience' within 5min . but that's all it took for me.

Happy with the Nexus. I've learned that I don't need gimmicky features which add no real value.
Nexus is fast, reliable and free of bloatware,
It's at the cutting edge of software thanks to updates direct from Google and it's the basis for custom ROM development.
Those were my main reasons for choosing it.
Maybe for average people the S4 or One would be a better fit, they are more practical in some ways such as having more storage and battery life. Samsung's and HTC's software does add value for some people but not for me, I just see gimmicks and stuff made to look pretty.
Samsung's smart pause and smart stay are cool innovations though.
The S4 and One are almost twice the price of a Nexus 4, but are they twice as good? Absolutely not. The Nexus 4 has more than enough power for most people, and you won't have to worry about whether the manufacturer will abandon it to focus on other devices.
The storage capacity is a bit of a bummer, but if you're clever, you'll find a way around it. I built a little server to house my music collection and use Subsonic to stream it. Other people I've seen use online music services or Internet radio. People are always coming up with new solutions in the Nexus community, and that's what I love about it - we've got a lot of bright minds here!
Not that the other devices don't have their fair share of good developers, but Nexus devices are meant to foster experimentation.

Trading their nexus by DEC.

So many phones looking forward too.
1. HTC ONE MAXX/T6
2. NOTE 3
3. MOTO X PHONE.
4. A possibly revamped s4 with a snapdragon 800
5. HTC ONE AND S4 Google edition.
Just wondering who is trading their nexus 4 for what phone and for what purposes?
Just curious

I will never buy another phone that isn't in the Nexus line as long as Nexus is being made. I came from the iPhone 4 to the Nexus 4 with zero experience in any Nexus device, or even Android in general, and I can tell you that pure Android is the best Android. I have a bunch of friends who hate Android solely because they bought a low-end phone that was running an outdated version of Android and had low specs.
"Yeah, but you should buy those Google Edition phones! They're so good and still show off pure Android!"
Yes, but at the same time, no. It's what AOSP 'should' look like, but it isn't truly AOSP. The OEMs still have to input their proprietary drivers/kernels to make it compatible with that hardware, so it's still customized. Android is developed for the latest Nexus device, and Nexus is made to show off the latest Android. I will sincerely buy every Nexus device that will ever be made because it is so open (and cheap). The freedom granted to OEMs, or end-users, is ridiculous. One line of code to unlock the bootloader? For real? Why WOULDN'T you buy Nexus? Come on.

Historically, not all nexii are as cheap as the N4. Just ask galaxy nexus, nexus s, nexus one and google one owners who bought devices from play. They paid an arm for their devices!! I love google's new subsidized price strategy, but it's just that....new I hope they keep it up, though, because I whole-heartedly agree with you!! I'll buy every nexus released as long as they are affordable in their prices.

I could flash Cyanogenmod and be good to go. I mean I had the EOL idea too but now I'm rethinking it. And to think what goodies may come in the fall. The Galaxy S4 LTE-A with a 2.3ghz processor.... REALLY.? Omg.. I dunno we will see I guess. I do love my phone but it's hard to resist hardware like that.

For me at least I know I want the nexus cuz I don't want to pay for all the extra stuff that I won't use like waiving my hand around like a monkey to use my phone. Anyways if I were to get a s4 and use cm10.1 on it what's the point of spending twice the amount of a nexus for when I can have a better version of cm10.1

Another vote for keeping the N4 until the next Nexus.
Thanks may be an option too. I'm excited to see what the future of Google and Motorola may be also.. I think the point of putting Cyanogenmod on Galaxy S4 would be the better specs of the S4.
