Serious Performance Issues on S3 - Galaxy S III Android Development

Hi guys,
My S3 was fine few days ago. All of a sudden the performance decreased drastically after the jb update, I used to get scores like 12245 on antutu and 5489 on quadrant but now I am getting around 4574 on antutu and 2456 on quadrant.
Phone gets heated up.. Lags a lot
.
What should i do??
Please help me

That sounds like a hardware issue, can you tell if its the device or the battery thats getting hot?

That would be what I would do. If it continues after that maybe look at trying another battery. Heat will affect you performance without question.

You should fully wipe your phone, including the memory cards.. Sounds like a corrupt File System to me...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

In a first step clean your cache and reboot.
Do you have CPU Sleeper installed? If yes, then freeze it with i.e. TB.
If your system´s still lagging then you should do a full wipe.

Do a quadrant standard immediate after taking a break for half an hour and keep ur device off and then turn on and do quadrant ....

I've had awful battery life on every version I've tried, 4.3, 6.1.1, 7.2 & 8.1.1 The only mod I made to was changing the CPU governor. Tried several, SmartAss, SmartAss v2, Conservative off the top of my head. Could never get the battery to last more than 7 or 8 hours. And that was if I hardly used the phone.
I love the ROM but its completely impractical for me to use it the battery life is that poor. Using CM 7.2 I can get over 24 hours out of a charge depending how much I use the phone
Well I set up CM7 and ice cold using the same apps, kernel, clock speed and everything and got very similar battery life. Interesting.

I'm going to give 8.2 a go over the next few days see if thats helps. I used to got a lot of random reboots on previous versions. Reading the change log it looks like those bugs have been resolved, maybe that is something to do with it
I am pretty much running it out of the box without any modifications. Thought asop roms would work better in terms of performance and battery life. Looks like I might have to ditch this for another rom

We have this phone in our family, and have been waiting for ICS update. But the reviews are quite bad. Seems like the phones hardware isn´t good enough to handle ICS smoothly. A lot of reports about slow phone with a lot of lagging.
Maybe it works better with a rooted phone though.

So, Im planning on buying this phone, But, Is it a good phone, I heard this phone beats the One X in benchmarks, But, Is it laggy? Hows the battery?

No lag and the battery is like other smartphones I think.
There's a problem with autofocus when recording in stock camera-app. Can use another.

Hey there,
I bought the P880 based upon the following reasons:
Near Retina screen
5th low power core
Removable battery
Looks like SGS2 and don't like the girly pebble looking blue SGS3
What I have found after owning it for 3 weeks:
Battery life is great, last full 24 hers on a single charge, with the exception of 1 day this week where power amp was running in the background and I didn't notice, it wiped my battery out in 3 hours - always carry a charger if your daft like me.
Its crashed twice, due to me being a fool and pushing it too hard - its just a phone after all.
Its very thin which is both good and bad, good for style, bad if you sit on it
No lag between screens and using apps - I play a lot of heavy games apps and they all run smooth as silk
The screen definition is superb - crisp, clear and always bright
LG UI3 is OK, not as refined as Samsung, but I like the fact that they don't pre-load as many applications as Samsung
All round a great buy, very happy, looks great and performs better
Hi,
Replying late. But yes today I took a benchmark test. Restarted my phone and first thing I ran the Quadrant. Was happy to see the results.

My phone works great...and battery is good and very good if you underclock cpu to 1.2ghz. even after underclocking cpu it is very smooth and no visible unplayable lags even with high end HD games.
Also with recent upgrades camera auto focus work fine if you dont believe check photos taken by my phone in best pics thread...
Compared to HTC OneX LG 4X have extra 64gb sd card option (so 16gb internal + 64gb sdcard) and battery upgrade option which is not possible in htc.. rest of the hardware is same GPU,CPU,RAM,..etc.

i'll try the MODDed Camera app and see any improvement can be made.
Overall I'm satisfied !!!

Calibrate your battery.
Let it empty untill blackout. Take out battery for 2 min then put it back again, and charge it to full, do not push the on button while charging.
My suggestion is to install and SPYCPU podesiš processor clock so you would not spend the battery more than they need. We also have a large selection governo, naćićeš best balance of performance and battery life.
Thanks jonpaslim! i will try to do that and will update the results

GPSD
and then not going into deep sleep (the phone gets warm)
Badass Battery (now another name, but you can still search Badass battery) and BBS (Better Battery Stats) helped me.
Thanks zkye.
So far i hv been using pretty alot of apps. Been using carat, netqin and cpu spy. Well the batt is still i would say average.. Im wondering how to read this thing on cpu spy. Especially the deep sleep graph. Is it sufficient? Or am i doing the wrong thing or what?

You can check version in settings, then about phone in bottom Guess you are on stock. Be carefull wiping, factory resetting and deleting large files as kernel can trigger a bug in emmc chip, corrupting partitions.
good you started analysing root causes. Always best case.
now if you dont care for warrantee you can follow directions from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29139461 to get back to starting point of install. Or to install the awesome speedmod kernel.
Alteratively you can add apps one by one and together with battery usage analysed you can fin culprits. With tools like betterbatterystats, cpu spy and badassbattery monitor

did you try re-calibrating your battery?
Hi xfox,
Done with calibrating as in let it empty, take out the batt for a while then turn it on again. It seems okay for now. Is there any other way instead? Im sorry for asking this stupid question again and again. And thank to all of ya for replying my so called newby question. Lol.

Thanks baz,
How i wish i could use those speedmod kernel and so on. Well im quite afraid to root it cuz im not too sure that im gonna use this phone for a long time. As the phone value will decrease if i void the warranty. But thx for replying my post tho. As for now im still monitoring my batt behaviour.

Galaxy Note problem
When I got my Galaxy Note, the battery used to last for 10 hrs on GB. After upgrading to ICS, that time dropped to 8 hrs. And after ICS updates, it went down to less than 4 hrs since it was discharging much fatser than charging, and it was the same whether I used the original power charger or direct USB cable.
The original charger is an adapter + USB cable.
Everything went fine when i changed the USB and used the one originally used to charge the Sony 3D glasses.
Now it's charging normally and the discharge rate is around 8% /hr with WIFI and mobile data ON.
Hope it will work for you.

You know, a benchmark result can be influenced by a lot of factors so, most of the time, an improvement or a worsening of 1000 can be misleading; it may be due to a different number of applications running in background and so on.
Most of the time, if you run a benchmark on the same phone, the one after the other, you'll not have the same result
Sorry for my bad english anyway
Thanks, although I did try to ensure I had same things running by re-starting phone and stopping/changing no apps.
P.s. Your English is good!

[Q] Overheating, throttling, gaming performance

Since one month I am considering an upgrade of my good old SE Neo V. I mainly use it for gaming. After a deep research, and a lot of read I have narrowed my pick to 2 phones Xperia SP and Nexus 4. Both devices have Adreno 320 and similar price level which is vital for me. Since the overheating, throttling, gaming performance on N4 is quite well described over the web the problem seems to be the lack of similar information over XSP. I would like to kindly ask you for help with running few stress tests (you can use app StabilityTest (ROOT optional) by intostudios) and posting those results here. Also if you have some expirience with gaming on you XSP please feel free to write something about it: is there any problem with 1GB of RAM while gaming, or with touch after the device is heavily used for 30-60 min (I know about the issue when XSP is on a flat surface), are all games available for XSP?
All this data should let me make the best choice about my future phone. Thanks in advance to everyone willing to post your results below :good:
