[Q] What am i doing wrong? CM10 back to Stock ROM - LG Optimus 2x

This is my story.
- I followed this video (below) to ROOT (SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse) my phone.
in youtube search for: Rooting and installing custom ROM (LG Optimus 2x) HD by TheCooLuka
- Then I made a backup file on my Internal SD card as well as on my External SD card using CWM v.6.0.15. (There was a Clockworkmod folder containing: Backup and Blobs folders)
- I don't know if I did something wrong in this next step. I moved all of my files from my Internal and External (including the CWM files) to my computer. So that my phone's External and Internal SD cards were "empty".
- I then flashed to CM10, which worked great, except for the sound and mic probs.
- Now, I'm trying to return my phone to the stock ROM. I tried to flash my phone by re-importing the Clockworkmod folder (containing: Backup and Blobs folders), and running the Restore option in CWM, but it ends up BOOT LOOPING.
My question is how do I get back to my Stock ROM with my saved backup? What steps am I doing wrong?
(I'm with the Canadian carrier = FIDO, and I'm able to restore back to CM10, but I just want to figure this out)

Are you sure you Wiped Data/Dalvik/Cache? If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to NVFlash it back to stock.

u have to wipe all of the above before restoring. (from cm to stock)
also wipe system which u can found at mount option would be better.
Then restore your backup from external sdcard or u would end up boot loop.

I tried what you suggested. This is what I did:
- Moved my backup folder of "clockworkmod" containing the two subfolders (backup and blobs) onto my external SDcard.
- Then I put the SDcard into the phone.
- Booted into CWM Recovery v5.0.2.0
- Wiped data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, and wiped Dalvik cache
- Formatted system through the "mounts and storage option"
- Then tried to restore.
This is the following msg I got:
- Checking MD5 sums.....
- Restoring boot image...
- system.img not found. skipping restore of /system.
- data.img not found. skipping restore of /data.
- .android_secure.img not found. skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure.
- cache.img not found. skipping restore of /cashe.
- Restore complete!
Were not these files created with CWM restore? Am i missing files? Help?
These are the files in the BACKUP FOLDER of CWM:
.android_secure.vfat.dup
boot.img
cache.ext4.dup
data.ext4.dup
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.ext4.dup

I upgraded my CWM Recovery back to v6.0.1.5. and tried reflashing, but it still ends up bootlooping..
Concerning the following message, I read that sometimes you had to format (slow) the sdcard. So I did both (reformat sdcard and tried to flash with CWM v6.0.1.5), it doesn't give me the message any more, but it stilll bootloops. So I'm back on CM10 backup.
Checking MD5 sums...
Erasing boot before restore
Restoring boot image
System image not found. Skipping restore of /system
data.img not found. skipping restore of /data
.android_secure.img not found. skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure
cache.img not found. skipping restore of /cache
sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of /sd-ext
Restore complete!
Any ideas?

[Q][Eclair] Rooted 1.1, clockwork backup failing :(

I am running rooted 1.1, and want to create a backup before I take the plunge on CM7. I reboot using Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager, and access the backup menu.
This is what always happens:
Reboot into recovery
Choose Backup and Restore
Choose Backup
......
ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.1.0
SD Card space free: 949MB
Backing up boot...
Backing up system...
Can't mount /system!
I then go back out and choose 'Mounts and Storage' to try to manually mount the volumes. From here I can see that /cache and /sdcard is mounted, but I cannot mount /system or /data.
Any ideas??? I really want to back up my my stock unit before trying CM7...

1.1 functions with clockwork 3.0.0.5. I don't think you will get a backup with 3.0.1.0 because it writes to a different partition. You may need to burn 0.5 to an sd card or revert to 0.5 do your backup and then reload 1.0.

The oldest version I could find in ROM Manager was 3.0.0.6. I reverted to that version, but it did not work any better. Now when I tell it to reboot, it will only reboot back into recovery, I cannot get it to reboot back into Eclair. I never had a problem rebooting out of recovery mode on 3.0.1.0. What the heck is going on? I did make sure no SD cards were in during the reboots.
I did go download an offline copy of 3.0.0.5 to try from SD, but I need to get back into Eclair so I can update my Nook to use the older CWR via ADB...
Here's your answer!
Hey, I had this exact problem. Here is the solution:
1) Download the .zip update for ClockworkMod 3.0.1.0 and put it on your SD
2) Flash CWM from ROM Manager (NOT the "old" one, just the regular one)
3) Reboot to CWM
4) From CWM, install the .zip CWM update file
Reboot to android, then reboot to recovery (using ROM Manager or whatever other means you like, doesn't matter) and you'll be able to do a backup.
Hope this helps!

i found an sd bootable versionof CWM, it as 3.0.0.5, but said it was 1.1 compatable. I booted off SD, and this copy worked. I backed up, formatted, and flashed the new ROM. However, as soon as I removed the SD and rebooted, it took me right back to the CWM that is on my eMMC! What gives???
I still cannot reboot back into android

[Unlocked Only][RECOVERY][2011-11-14] Custom CWM-based Recovery 5.0.2.7-atrix5

This is a modified CWM-based recovery for the Motorola Atrix 4G. It is based on my own custom code forked from the CyanogenMod team's recovery. The major changes I have made include full support for dual SD cards, support for webtop partitions (SD card and internal) and changes to Nandroid backup/restore for this phone's additional partitions.
Some highlights include:
Dual SD card support
ADB support
USB Mass Storage support
Nandroid additions/changes
ext3/4 formatting
Unified kernel for international users
Probably others
This recovery is only for UNLOCKED devices. It is intended to be flashed directly to the recovery partition. Additionally, I have an AT&T phone so that is the kernel I am using. I doubt the memory issue would matter in recovery mode but testing from UNLOCKED international users would be appreciated. UPDATE: Initial indications are it works fine on UNLOCKED international phones. Versions for different tegraparts have also been compiled. UPDATE 2: Unified kernel patch has been applied. Choose whatever color you prefer regardless of phone version!
UNLOCKED users can flash this recovery using:
Code:
moto-fastboot devices
moto-fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery-atrix5.img
Example from my phone:
Code:
$ moto-fastboot devices
TA20700KXH fastboot
$ moto-fastboot erase recovery
erasing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 0.741s]
$ moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (4780 KB)... OKAY [ 0.490s]
writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 0.544s]
This is posted in a DEVELOPER forum and is being released to help further the development of Android for the Motorola Atrix 4G. I have personally tested this on my phone but YOU assume full responsibility for any damage incurred to YOUR phone!

Original ROM Manager installable zip thanks to SolidHelix. You must still be UNLOCKED to use them.
Source is here.
A few notes:
The capacitive buttons can be used to navigate as well. Back is back, search is select. Menu and home are up and down.
The "osh" partition is webtop. It is the largest by far and will take some time to backup. Nandroid is not frozen!
The "sd-ext" partition is an ext3/4 partition on your external SD card. Veterans will know this as apps2sd and data2sd from other phones. The only use I'm aware of on our phone currently is Sogarth's webtop2sd.

** Changelog **
2011-11-14 (5.0.2.7-atrix5):

Unified kernel patch from eval-
New kernel to fix the stuck at "Entering Android Recovery" prompt. Big thanks to bamastang for helping test this.
Added a verify option to the backup and restore menu.
Renamed internal SD card mount point to /emmc and external is now /sdcard (this is largely cosmetic).
Merged in the CM7 device config when building the recovery image (again, just cosmetic).
Merged in miscellaneous fixes from the official CWM. Version 5 will be merged in once its ready.
2011-08-17 (4.0.1.5-atrix3.2):
Added 0MB option to ext3 partition size under External SD card partitioning which removes any ext3 partitions from the card (choose 0MB ext3/0MB swap to have only a FAT32 partition).
Added a red build to the mix.
Updated the update-binary in the CWM zips to be tailored for this phone.
Minor fixes to sdparted (log file related mostly).
2011-08-14 (4.0.1.4-atrix3.1):
Swap kernels to re-enable soft keys. Ext4 support should still work.
Fix for external SD card partitioning (internal is not supported).
CWM zip changed slightly.

User is now prompted to backup or restore webtop (/osh and /sd-ext) during Nandroid.
Four alternate colors created.
Versions for different tegraparts (international phones) created.

Known Issues
sd-ext (webtop2sd) is inadvertently wiped on "Wipe data/factory reset". Next version will make this optional. Fixed in -atrix2.
Miscellaneous
If you'd like ROM Manager to see this recovery as "official" you can try XCellPhoneSalesRep's suggestion posted here.
Alternately, you can try dcarpenter85's suggestion here.
For issues with recovery not sticking or crashing, see here:
Thanks to mrinehart93 for pointing this out.
The system runs /system/etc/install-recovery.sh on boot with the stock rom. On boot it checks the recovery partition for some update and with CWM installed decides to reflash the stock recovery over it. Rename or delete the file and the CWM should stick.

were you using Tenfar's old version.
I had at one-point tried using the old version... after trying to flash the new version and having the problem. I flashed the new version I believe right after unlocking (first time flashing the CWM) It had never worked on my phone unless I used the ROM Manager version. I was hoping this would take care of the issue since I did the erase recovery and flashed this...

Very interested in this as well. The big problem (only problem iirc) with Tenfar's is its inability to properly backup and restore the PDS partition.
If this release gives us all of the features of the official CWM, I will be ecstatic!!!

PDS is definitely backed up. It's not restored by default, just as a wimax partition is not on those devices that have them. It is available under Advanced Restore but you should help test it and have a separate backup just in case.
Backup early and backup often.

I don't know if there is something missing that CWM is dependant on or what. But like I said if I use the one from ROM manager which is 4.0.1.4 I can boot into recover with the plugged in via AC.
Bug during backup?
So I am starting my backup of my phone using this recovery.
I booted into recovery, chose "Backup and Restore", then chose "Backup", and finally told it to makeup to the external card.
Here is my output:
CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.4-atrix1
SD Card Space free: 4331MB
Backing up boot image...
Backing up recovery image...
Backing up system...
Backing up data...
Backing up .android-secure...
Backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Backing up osh...
Backing up pds...
Generating md5 sum...
Backup complete!
It seems somewhere in the backup code it tries to backup the contents of the SD-Card (external), but the mount point is referenced as "sd-ext" instead of "sdcard-ext".
This isn't a big deal for me at all, as I only have videos and music on the external card - both of which I have copies of on my PC. For some people, they may want to be able to backup the external card as well.
Edit: In the advanced restore options there is also an option to restore the external sdcard, but it is against referenced as the mount point "sd-ext" instead of sdcard-ext".
Like I said, I'll wipe the phone clean tomorrow and test restore it then make a new post with the results.
So far so good!!

Boot regularly and then in Settings enable USB Debugging. From a command prompt, "adb devices" should show your phone. From there, "adb reboot recovery" and wait 10-20 seconds.
Does that get you into recovery? Does the "Motorola Dual Core" boot image change at all when you try to boot into recovery? Like to a little Android guy with a yellow hazard sign?
The "plugged into AC" recovery is just a hijack of the normal system, so if your phone boots normally I'm not surprised that method works.

"sd-ext" refers to an ext3 partition on the external SD card. On other phones, this is used for crap like "data2sd" and "apps2sd". On our phones, the only current use I've seen of this is for Sogarth's webtop2sd.
Standard CWM does not backup SD card contents (it backs up to them) so there is no support for that in mine. I could consider adding it eventually.
You will see references to "sdcard-ext" in my recovery if you do something like Apply update.zip and then choose External SD card (look at the path it shows you for update.zip on the confirm screen).

[Q] Error merssage while restoring Nandroid backup

Can anyone tell me what, if anything, I should do about this error which appears after restoring a Nandroid backup? The phone seems to be working ok so far. I've done Nandroid backup and restore several times without errors before but obviously something has changed.
Error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure!
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
I cannot see any file called "recovery log" in the /sdcard/clockworkmod folder. There is a file called "recovery-update.zip".
I tried uninstalling/re-installing ROM Manager and then making and restoring a new nandroid backup but the result was the same. The backups are to the internal sd card.
I'd be grateful for any advice. I tried trawling around the forums for some hours as this seems to be a widely discussed issue but cannot find any clear explaination of the cause or fix.

Yes, there is a Clockworkmod folder on my ext/sd card. I wanted to do Nandroid backups there but the option to Use External Storage is greyed out on the settings page.

which settings page ?
in CWM you need to go to backup & restore and choose backup (this will backup to external SD).. there is another option to select backup to internal SD
I'm using ROM Manager (Premium) and under the settings there's an option to use external sd card but it's greyed out.

Use CWM directly to make backups to your desired storage
Can you tell me where to get CWM? I can only see ROM Manager on the Google Play site. I understand that RM is really just a front end for CWM but I'd have assumed the functinality would be the same.
Thanks again for the reply
if you are having hydracore the cwm will be already there. It's a recovery. you need to boot into recovery mode.

[Q] Broken rom after clockwork backup restore

I have installed custom rom from zip and used it for several weeks.
Today I have decided to try new rom and I have made a backup trough CWM (6.0.2.5) in format .tar
I have tried to restore the backup. but the phone gives me a really strange error.
Encryption Failed. The system .. bla bla bla ... you need to reset your phone ..
I have tried to factory reset trough CWM, but the problem is the same.
I have tried to restore older backup ... the same error ...
Any ideas what is the problem and now to fix it (restore the rom)
I have tried the following ..
1. format /system /cache / data
2. install custom rom (CivZ v3.0)
3. take the setup wizard
4. reboot into recovery (CWM 6.0.2.5)
5. backup (.tar format)
6. restore from the backup
and .. the same error and no working rom ..
Can this be an internal SD memory problem ?
Any ideas ???
Anyone
Try backing up to external SD card. If that works, or you dont have an external SD card, backup and repartition your internal SD using AIO toolkit (choice 4 in the toolkit, then select the new unlocked ICS bootloader, and 512 MB system partition, or whatever your preferred size is, then run the internal SD fixer which follows that step) and try again.
The backup is on external SD
I have already repartitioned the internal SD with the default ICS layout (1.5G system)

Then try backing up to the internal SD and also try changing recovery to TWRP.
I have already tried TWRP but it cannot restore CWM backup
Currently I have stock rom , but I cannot rollback to the previous rom backup.
a few days ago I have used some app (found here in XDA) for optimizing internal SD .. is it possible this app to broke something in the internal SD ?

Hi! I assume that you were using the stock ics rom. Right? Stock ics use system partition as ext4 but data and cache are used as ext3. Since TWRP and CWM format data and cache as ext4 you cannot use your old backup of stock ics rom, unless you format both (data and cache) to ext3.
I created a zip which converts data and cache to ext3. Download from my attachment.
Flash the zip file then restore your backup.
Thanks :victory:

Z1 Backup Restoring Problem

Hello guys , i have a problem with backup restoration on my z1. I made a few days ago a full backup on my ext sd card (everything went well) and now when i try to restore it the recovery only restores a part of that backup . The backup is 3.8gb but it only restores about 3 gb and at the end i get this error "volume not found skipping restore of sd-ext error" , the phone boots up but the launcher and a lot off apps are missing . I tried to copy the backup folder by phone and pc to the internal sd card of the phone but i can't because i get an error. how i can restore the backup and what can be the problem? My bl is locked and i used xzDual recovery 2.8.21 and 2.8.23 but i get the same error when restoring. I don't have another sd card to test this. Any help is good.
Error: volume not found skipping restore of sd-ext error
Have you tried mounting the drive that gives the error manually before starting restoring?
