Rooting on 4.1.1 - Motorola Atrix HD

How does one do this? I did the update for 4.1.1 last night, but I want to root also. Is there a method released?

Don't mind him. A lot of people have a superiority complex here on XDA and consider posting a single line of helpful information, with the rest meant to bash, as a good thing. Big reason to why quite a few devs left XDA. Though I find it annoying, it can't be helped. So simply ignoring it seems to be the only way to go as he'll try to justify everything he says. We lost a decent amount of devs over in the Atrix 4G section over people like that so it seems ATGAdmin is the first arse of the Atrix HD forums.

I cannot stress enough that THIS IS FOR BIONIC ONLY. You should not attempt this for use with other devices such as the Droid 3 except at your own risk. The D3 specifically has differences that will cause your internal storage to wipe if you attempt to use this bootstrap on it.

I'm brave, but not that brave.
Yeah, its a use at your own risk kind of thing, obviously.
Maybe someone can get CVPCS to take a look at the D3, the work is mostly done with the bionic.
DO NOT USE THE BIONIC BOOTSTRAP. He posted on his blog this same warning.
I REPEAT: DO NOT USE BIONIC BOOTSTRAP.
It fries your internal memory apparently. Wait for the D3 version, should be out today or tomorrow.

Not sure what's wrong with a dev-related topic being posted in the dev section, but in my opinion, the real bummer is that CVPCS is developing for the Bionic instead of the D3 (like I hoped). The Bionic has been out for about a week and a half, and already has a pending CM7 mod waiting in the wings. Hopefully we can get some work going on the D3…

BTW guys, there is work being done with the D3 don't worry. We already have a semi working CWM based recovery in the beta stage atm. there are a few dedicated devs working on the D3.
Also keep in mind its only going faster for the bionic devs because our devs have been working so hard on things like 2init and root, granted it does seem we were skipped over by the majority of devs.

On other areas of the site the Developer forum is not for questions but for development. Questions are ether directed to the developer thread of interest or posted in the General category.
I am kind of surprised that no sticky post has been made here stating similar rules.

S-off discussion: Can we look to Rezound for help on root?

Hey guys, it looks like the HTC Rezound is close to getting S-Off by Evil. If you didn't know, the Rezound has had a locked bootloader all this time just like us. Can we look to how they got root to help with our own efforts. The method of getting S-Off between these two phones can't be that different, can it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375598
EDIT: Apparently links to his site are prohibited. But just google "s-off think tank" to get to Evil's site.

I'm pretty sure the internals are very very alike too. The only difference I've read is the screen size. They both came out around the same time, so I'd think they'd be locked in a very similar fashion.

Look, I don't like the guy and I think his attitude is terrible and he deserved the ban he got. But can we refrain from saying stuff that isn't true? It does nothing for guiding people to an eventual unlocked rezound (or vivid in this case). As I appreciate your enthusiasm for moderating me. The statement was made intentionally. As I have had this thread topic in multiple forums and the dev in question prompts flaming from discussion as to why we can't link his site. Most people on here either love or hate the guy, I am cool with him. My statement is made because that's the reasoning behind not linking his site. I can post it when I did or we could wait until it was asked, I chose the pre emptive approach to avoid someone literally saying something negative about the dev and xda. If you have an issue with my statement please address a senior mod or admin.

[ATTN: Devs] Will this be root(able)?

I got pissed off when I got home with this phone to find out that apps could not be moved to the external sdcard.
Previous phone was a Sony Xperia Ion LT28at, rooted. The battery life just sucked on it.. So I traded for this phone (Atrix HD) thinking..
I'll go home, jump on xda.. Find the root process and be a happy camper, once again..
To my surprise.. No one had been able to beat Motorola's "security?"..
All I have left to say is...
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WORKING TOWARDS ROOT FOR THIS PHONE.. GOD SPEED!!!
I am from Ecuador and did the same thing ... I had the Atrix 4G but this sucks ... I can not believe no one has been able to break the security of motorola ... come on guys I know you can do it ... Now I'm stuck with a phone that has no root and I can not do anything .....

My point towards Echo is to not to assume and to be a bit more friendlier. This is after all a community to help others and to spread information. Bad will towards other would have not be tolerated in the forums I modded and administrated on. The mods can deleted this thread since it doesn't serve any purpose since the information was already posted. I hate useless posts. That's why I only post when I have something to say. Thank you for pointed out the post.

I find myself scrolling through posts more than searching.

Are you freaking serious right now? Who cares if he didn't use the search button quit frankly I was thankful I didn't need to scroll through to find this cause it was right on top. Just be thankful that there is other people looking and probing for new info about our device. I like to go by the saying my mom always used. If you don't have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all

Keep in mind if people would use the tools given and just look a bit, we wouldn't have to scroll through PAGES of absolute nonsense.

@jlaird
matt is absolutely correct. That is the point of the search so that there aren't tons of duplicate threads to sift through.

@Matt
The point of the search is so you don't have to scroll to find what you're looking for. Unfortunately it isn't perfect and will not always find what you are looking for.
We could probably discuss this all day, but what would be the point. It happened. Let's all just move on.
