I want to root device and I have few questions - LG Optimus 4X HD

I will be straight. I want to root my device and I have two questions:
1. After root, I will be able to get OTA updates?
2. Can I unroot device later?
Thanks!!!

Nothing to add to this, except "yes" and "yes" to save us from complainings like "I'm still too lazy to do so/ I couldn't find the button/ It takes ages to search and you might as well tell me".

Guys, guys. You can always post the link and problem solved, if you too lazy to say twice Yes/No combination.

I found this thread - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818502. In any case, in this thread no words about unroot or OTA updates.

Ok, ok. Just to be clear, rooting is done with two things, first is binaries "su" that is placed (rooting process) in phones System/bin or xbin and app like Superuser or SuperSU that can be system or user installed app, allowing you to edit system files...that's it in short. So why OTA would't work, and why you couldn't unroot...

Just to clarify this: In the rooting thread it has been mentioned a few days ago that you can easily unroot via the Superuser app. And shortly after v10f was released it was reported that not only would you receive it via OTA (because that's normally only a problem if you got a real custom recovery), but that root would remain after the OTA upgrade. I read that a few times in different threads.
And, if you read my previous post, i wrote "yes and yes". That should have answered your question clearly enough.

Wrong section. Has been answered more than once. Yes you can retain root, but you need to read through the threads to find out how.
I too have been looking for this...
I probably took longer to type the "wrong forum" comment, then to actually help someone out.
I searched as well, and the only guide I could find is for the JB Leak...
Can anybody provide a step by step for going to 77.12.22.MB886.ATT.en.US from rooted shipped and retaining root?

It probably didn't take longer. I also did help him out by telling him that you could retain root. Also I was not even being rude about it, I was just pointing out that it is much easier for everyone to look for answers before asking questions.
Edit: Sorry friend, I thought you were talking about JB leak. This method should work anyway though, if it does't, bleh.
....ahem.
Before you flash JB leak, make sure Superuser app AND Su binary are both fully updated. Current version of Su bin is 3.1.X. After that, use OTA Rootkeeper like normal.
So,
1 Root ICS
2 Update Superuser
3 Update Su
4 Protect root with Rootkeeper
5 Temp Unroot
6 Flash JB
7 Restore Root
8 Profit

[ROOT][System R/W Enabling] 4.4 (System Version 19.5.3 ONLY)

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE GROWS LEGS AND EATS YOUR DOG, YOUR LOVE LIFE IS DESTROYED, YOUR PET ROCK GOES MISSING OR ANYTHING ALONG ANY LINES REGARDING YOU, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR PHONE, OR ANYTHING FOR THAT MATTER.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that we have gotten that out of the way on to the root.
I will tell you now this is a LONG grueling process not meant for most new comers but if you want to take a stab feel free ill help if need be.
Now first things first before we do ANYTHING make sure your using a Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, Moto X or any of those phones and make sure their on System version: 19.5.3 and Android: 4.4. Now that we've separated the men from the women (no sexism implied) lets move on.
You now need to go into your settings and make sure you have developer options available if not go to about phone in settings and scroll down and tap build number till it tells you your a developer. Pretty straight forward and simple. Now go back and go into developer options and enable USB Debugging and plug your phone into your PC (don't forget you need a computer for this process). Now it will most likely prompt you to authorize your pc on your device. Tap the check box and tap OK.
Now I need you to do a couple of things. Make sure you don't have an update pending, make sure your battery is charged, and make sure you have no root apps installed, this is almost specifically pointed at SuperSu, Superuser, etc. This will ensure your safe to do this whole process error free (not guaranteed but almost positive it prevents all your problems).
Now that we've separated the boys from the men lets continue.
Your going to want to download the file below ROOT.zip. That is the file with all the goodies. Download it and extract it to your C drive (root directory).
Go to the ROOT/PIE folder and run the ROOT.bat it will direct you from there. If you want me to paste what it says here, well then here you go-->
First it will say
--Root Achived--

Click to collapse
Now you'll need to follow the other directions it gives you.
Please run wpbegone.exe in /ROOT/RWPD/ as administrator-------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Press Enter when you've done so and its made you say yes a couple of times----
Click to collapse
This is somewhat what it will look like. Do what it says and it will say the next thing.
Please click ONCE on 1.bat and hold Enter once it says waiting for adb-----------
Once its rerooted your device with pie and has said must play a little while--------
longer please wait till it goes through the process and gets to clobbering 2--------
Then click 2.bat ONCE and press and hold enter till it roots your device-----------
After your rooted wait till all is completed and it tells you to press enter------------
Then reroot your device using pie and go to the safestrap app now in your app-
drawer and tap install recovery. Then reboot into recovery using safestrap-------
and install su.zip on your sdcard/internalstorage and reboot-------------------------
After all of that go to SuperSu and update your binary--------------------------------
now your done PROFIT B**** ;D

Follow those instructions to the tee or it will NOT work.If you need urgent help email me at [email protected] if not just post on here and ill get back to you asap i am a busy person and may be living on the streets soon so please don't be a d*** to me. Be patient.

Its full unthethered root on 4.4. You just have to downgrade from 19.6.3 system version to the 19.5.3 system version if your not already on it.
Why are you reposting and repackaging devs' exploits. This is essentially a repost and repackage. Not sure @jcase or @beaups would approve of this.

While all guides and tutorials are highly appreciated, reposting them is highly unnecessary and will only be confusing for people trying to find the right guide. Pie root by Jcase can be found here, and as his thread states:
Pie is a root for motorola devices, should work up to and including 4.4.2.

Meaning it also works on the Droid Ultra or any Motorola device for that matter.

Don't hold your breath there, pal....
Then you will want to spend $20 and get Moforoot, however there is a good chance it will not work under lollipop when they push out the update.
With Kingroot, i rooted my limited edition 1254 the second time i tried, but it resulted in a lot of pop ups, showing android system apps crashes..the only way out was hard reboot.
Better off wait for OTA update, then a few chances for devs in finding exploits, and hopefully removing write protection..the real iceberg so far..

If this is your question, then you are probably not ready to root just yet, anyway. You should always research before rooting anything. A lack of doing research before rooting any phone is good way to brick phones. A simple search will easily answer your question(s) about rooting this phone.
How to root the AT&T Galaxy S5 Marshmellow
Step 1. Stop Creating posts about the same topic
Step 2. Stop creating topics about anything without searching first
Step 3. Get a phone that can be rooted
Step 4. No stop. This phone can't be rooted for the forseeable future and much development interest in it has died.
Step 5. Go back to step 3

I DONT SAY HELP ME TO YOU AND WHAT YOUR PROBLEM WITH ME WTF !! IF YOU DONT WANT TO HELP ME OR YOU WANT TO INSULT ME JUST EXIT THIS TOPIC
The issue is that you have a couple topics on how to root this phone, if it has lollipop or marshmallow, it can not be rooted. Searching for this instead of creating 2 posts about it would have prevented the sarcastic answer. This phone is old and developers have moved on to newer phones.

Request for Root on NWS2.170620.003 Security Patch level July 1, 2017

hi,
i am new in these forums,
i searched over the web and also tried many root methods, but none worked.
root method for NXH19X is not working for me i tried multiple times.
the main error i am getting is "unable to mount /system; no such thing found" in TWRP
i also tried multiple Supersu files official ones and unofficial ones as well.
after some research i found out about new file system squashfs FS
then i tried this rom which supports EXT4 File System
here is link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch-r/development/rom-ext4all-g-watch-r-skin1980-t3589917
but it didnot work out as well,(get boot looped)
so flashed stock rom and now on latest update as told earlier,
so its my request, i need help. if someone please come up with any working method to root latest stock rom and security patches(build number and security patch in title)
why stock rom?
i personally like stock rom and it is working fine for me.
why root?
i have root on my phone (one plus one), i felt like i am unable to use my watch on full potential without root.
and we all like root that's why we are here right
thank you
(i actually don't know the how to write any threads so bear with me please) :fingers-crossed:
This post of mine will work. Tried on many roms and it works.
Some play store apps says i dont have root but I do as the app i use that needs root works : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skin1980.buttonremap
So use this procedure :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch-r/development/nxh19x-boot-img-rooted-t3651039
The problem is that u need a TWRP for squash images which you can find in the mentioned post

hi
i tried your given method,
twrp seems to work fine first time,
but i lost twrp as soon as i boot into system,
some how system replace recovery with default one each time watch booted into android itself,
however i am able to boot into recovery, when tried directly from fast-boot after flashing it,
but still unable to obtain root,
the zip files seems to flash perfectly, but there is no su in app drawer,
thanks for your support, but i think new version makes it harder to gain root,
and i am fine without root i can live without it.
thanks again.
