XMas accessory gift ideas - Nexus 10 Accessories

I bought my father in law the Nexus 10 for xmas..... what would be some good accessories that will work with it?
Perhaps I should ask in a month after more people have tested various accessories.
I'm thinking about a MiraCast thingy to hookup to his TV.
What about smart covers, screen protectors?... anything out there yet?

From what people said so far about it, get the pogo pin charge cable whenever they release it.

TV Out

Anyone know where to get the TV out cable?
Google 73H00274-00M
I believe that's the cable as it has the extra USB connector to charge the phone while it's outputting the video.
I think this si it. YOu may want to email the seller and confirm tho.. http://www.amazon.com/OEM-HTC-Out-Cable-ACT100/dp/B002OOZDSE
I think that cable is mini usb not micro
Correct that is mini not micro, cable will not work. But what about the combination of http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OOZDSE/ref=oss_product and
http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Micro-Male-To-Mini-Female-Usb-Converter-Adapter-Cable-p-11269.html
I think $20 bucks is worth the try.
That won't work either... the adapters only push through the standard pins, not the special pins used by HTC for their TV out...
dammit
i need to get 6 of these cables....
anyone know where i can find out how to build my own?

one for each TV in the house
Seriously I need this... with the skyfire browser this will be the most useful cable ever. No more hooking up the laptop to watch last week's shows that I missed.
I have heard from wirefly that verizon wireless will give it out in a month..
But what I dont like is that there is no dedicated output port in incredible .. (ie its a matter of time when your phone will get discharged ).. So this thing will be useful only for quick preview on TV(like done for camera).
they could make a cable with an inline micro female to charge simultaneously
do not buy the ACT100 cable it does NOT work with the incredible. the slot is like the same as the HTC HD so it will not fit.

According to this video HTC explained that the TV-Out cable has an extra Micro USB port on it that allows the device to be charged while having the TV-Out cable connected as well. Really hope we get this cable in stores soon as I'd love to try this feature!
Correct you will be able to charge as its plugged in.
I just really hope that the dev who made the app to sync a Wii remote with Android comes up with the HTC fix. It would be so nice to have all of these game emulators on your phone that you can play with a Wii remote on your TV or anywhere there is an RCA connect.
Off-topic: There is a bluetooth controller that supposedly works with HTC Sense 2.1 devices I am considering purchasing, the MSI BGP100. I dont much care for it, but it supposedly works according to the dev website. It uses the app Gamepro on the market. Id much rather use the Zmote, but Ill probably just wait for Wiimote support on the Incredible.
On-topic: VZW warehouses dont even have them in stock. As in, they are still awaiting mass-production apparently. Fullfilment Inventory= 0. A few HTC events have had the cable being demoed but not for purchase. Good god how I long for one! Like many of you I have also scoured the interwebs for one with no success. Outside of bumping into a htc rep, looks like we might just have to hurry up and wait fellas.
Yea, just as everyone else i want one bad!!
It is not listed on their parts site yet either. Even though a lot of stuff there is back ordered.

[Q] Do I really have to pay £20+ for a USB cable?

Why hasn't anyone produced a cheaper alternative yet? I know it's not a common connector, but the phone has been out for a long time now. Any ideas? Thanks.

I haven't found any third party ones yet
lol..well said.
i hate that phones/laptops use proprietary ****...
but i guess that's where the money is so its stupid not to from a business standpoint.
thats why I always like nokia and htc,,
they would make a top shelf unbranded universal device.
no bs chargers, or batteries, or no mem slot, internal battery etc...
they give you a completely unbranded, un tainted device that actuall does everything...
not the almost everything that these cell phone companies do..
they cant give you everything in one phone because then you will never buy the new one they are selling.
so all that considered the dell streak starts to look pretty damn good...
atleast until the HD3 is released.
I would never have bought this if my HD2 didnt suffer touch screen death.
had dual boot super tech wm 6.5.5 touch rom with froyo 2.2 bluetopia rolling.
It was best of both worlds..
made my nokia n97 seem like a toy.
now the Dell streak has done that even with the HD2..
Extremely impressed!
They call it a tablet but its really a giant cell phone.
they should get Brock Lesnar to endorce it...
it would look very proportional i bet..
so if any marketing vp's are reading this.. there you go...

Not that HTC is any better with their USB headphones on some models like my Touch Pro2! And PDMI is not proprietary, but Dell jumped the gun. They should all just have stayed with Mini USB.

Due to the formatting that post was ridiculously hard to read as it just didn't flow.
I agree that paying £20+ for what is supposedly an open standard plug (PDMI) is a bit excessive however it's a sellers market when people are early adopters. In time we will find that the plugs will become available cheaper cables will be produced, I believe members on XDA-Developers have already sussed out the pin-out for the cable, they just need the plugs.
I have been trying to source some however as of yet haven't had any luck, second I find some I'll be making cables like they're going out of fashion.

You can get an adapter for the USB headset, but the one that works with a headset with microphone is quite expensive. Besides, it is a real pain, carrying it around, trying not to lose it, etc. And the strange thing about the Touch Pro2 is that sound through the speakers is much better than through headphones.
Really? Not if you steal one.... Lol
Second... Shouldn't that have been a question you asked yourself before you bought a $400 proprietary device?

Exactly, the Touch Pro2 has the best hardware keyboard around and music wasn't my first priority. So I got it and still use it as a business phone. Every device has some drawbacks, as mentioned by others, if they made them almost perfect, why would you think of upgrading early?
keep an eye out for the samsung galaxy tab aswell it uses pdmi connector so should work on the streak, you can also get tv out cable
Ignore above
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just read on mydellmini site someone has both the Streak &the Galaxy Tab. He states that no they do not work.
The question now is which is standard pdmi, Galaxy Tab or Dell Streak or are neither ?

Looks like someone may have found an alt source for cables. They expect a sample from their supplier next week and may be making a bulk order shortly there after - last I heard it was 3 cables, AC adaptor, car adaptor = $30.

No - that is NOT what I reported.
That USB charger does work with the Streak - but you need to use the Streak's USB cable to connect it.
The iPad has a completely different USB cable to the Streak ! The cord that comes with the car charger is to fit the iPad, not the Streak - so you can just throw it in the bin.

The picture showing the Dell Strea sync cable on the website linked above seems to indicate in its caption that the same cable could be used for a Zune HD (I say seems as I don't read Korean).
Would someone be able to verify that a Zune HD uses PDMI (and the same 30-pin connector) and so possibly ZUne cables may be an alternative?

Basically, it seems that firmware dictated how the usb cable charged. Rooted my 1.6, and flashed up to Stock 2.2 released by Dell for its unlocked units. I'm unsure if the earlier versions (2.1) would work too. Anyhow, no longer had any problems and could charge in my car just fine without overheating. Make sure whatever usb car charger you get, that the port has at least 1A of juice coming out. Good luck!

What is it that makes the phone decide it's 'docked' ??
When I plug my phone in to a micro-usb charger (or a micro-usb cable hooked up to a PC), then go to
Clock -> Dock Settings -> Audio
I still see the message 'Phone not docked', even though the phone is charging.
Does the phone have to be sync'ing with some software on a PC before it decides it's truly docked? Or does the cradle have some circuitry to deliver a message that tells the phone it is docked? I thought the cradle was simply a charger.
Still out of stock! It says "will be available from 25-th Feb" and now it is already 1st! Quite sad, as there are no other docks around.

Hi,
Where are you ordering the dock from? Is it from oddsandpods.com?
Just googled them and the reviews dont seem very favourable.
Could you please give us some feedback on how their service has been?
Thanks
I've just received information:
"Thank you for your order. Your order has been passed to the warehouse for picking and will be dispatched within 2 days. Should we be unable to send your order on time we will email you to advise of any delay."
When (if) dock arrive, I'll try to post some pictures and write a little bit about service.
Ordered from Odds and Pods on 24th Feb, not received it yet or getting any order updates! really not happy with these guys!

IBOLT MHL Adapters Not Working..A Sign of things to come ?

It is strange that it doesn't work. You would think it would have been tested before sending them out. Weird.

could be but we have tried using the adapter they sent and followed the picture they posted but it still does not work. My guess is they never tested it on a USA GN2 as their photo shows a GS3 and we all assumed that it would work on the GN2.
emailed them this morning. Wonder what they are going to do. It would be nice to have a working MHL for the note 2, but then again, it was free so i can't complain too much! Besides, the car dock is great!
I agree Jon but it has to make you wonder if your hopes of a working USB/Audio cable will go up in smoke if they did not even properly test the MHL cables on the GN2 before they were sent out. And although they were free, they would have been better served to keep them in Utah if they were not going to work.
Free MHL cable does not work with GN2
Hi there,
I can also confirm that the free MHL cable that came with the car dock does not work with Galaxy Note 2. I tried different HDMI cables but no luck. After connecting the charger to the microUSB port of the cable the phone starts charging but no picture on the TV.
Mine also doesn't work. Tried different combos of chargers, usb cables, hdmi cables, connecting to tv and receiver.
Has anyone been successful using this MHL to HDMI adapter?

It apparently works if you are in the IBOLT office using a GS3 but I am not aware of ANYONE including the IBOLT Engineers that have made it work with the GN2. Does not give me much faith that we will ever see a working USB/Audio cable.
Hopefully I will ger a response from ny email this week. So far all is quiet.

Me too. Several people have bought USB Audio cables with a specific resistor pack and made them work. It looks like they all needed to load a different kernel. I am convinced there is a technical issue that requires a Samsung software mod.

iBOLT 11 Pin MHL Adapter for Samsung devices
Hello XDA Community! This is my first of probably many posts as we here at iBOLT try to keep information coming. First of all, you have to love technology. iBOLT, as most of you know, sometimes get caught in a situation where we produce a product that works with one release of a phone and may not with another release. For instance, the iBOLT MHL adapter to convert the Samsung 11 pin microUSB output for MHL to the 5 pin standard for MHL works for all International devices (S III & Note II) but doesn't for North American devices. When we tested and produced the adapter, it worked great. Now that we have sent out hundreds to our loyal iBOLT family, we are caught up in what most of us would call - Murphy's Law - we tried to do a good thing and send out a free gift to help compensate for the delay in shipping the xProDock for Samsung and it turns out not to work. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you will once again - HAVE PATIENCE as our engineers try to understand what the differences are between the International and North American Samsung devices. I'm sure that we will find a solution and we will do our best to keep you informed. Wow - first post and very long. I hope this helps answer some of the questions.......we will be sending out replacement adapters when they are available. Sorry for the long post......

First...Thank You! I was pretty sure that was the case and know it can be a bit embarrassing to have your customers find issues like this. (Learned that lesson more than once myself) Clearly checking this will be on your list of things to do before releasing the USB/Audio cable.

USB port seems ifffy?

I noticed pretty much right away that it is not a very pleasant experience plugging the device in, the cable doesn't fit super well and seems to take too much force, that mixed with the tear down and seeing that the port is on the same board as everything else worries me...
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+6+Teardown/32877
Because of that I am pretty sure I will be returning this phone tomorrow and picking up something else I can't have a non fixable device that already seems destined to break.
Although mine micro usb seems okay for now i find this interesting. Do you guys think that the usb is unfixable without replacing the board? I had usb issues with my old HTC Desire HD and nexus 4. It was really annoying and I don't want to experience this again.
If you're worried, you could get a Qi charger to avoid using the USB port every time you charge it. The only time I ever had a problem with the USB port was with the Diztronic case since it interferes with the plug on the USB cable. It would cause it to easily come unplugged. With my supcase there's no problem at all.
The cable that came with the phone is tight and has weird fit for me. Other cables have been fine. I use a Samsung cable with my turbocharger now otherwise my qi charger.
with wireless charging and wireless file transfers using a file Explorer app, I've not plugged the device up yet.
The cable and USB port on mine are fine. I'm used to the hard to plug in G3 so this is extremely easy in comparison. I've had my Nexus 6 since it was delivered on 11/17 and it was made on 10/21 so I would give yours a chance.
The port on my N4 got broken too after about 18 months. Because it was a separate board it was easy to replace. Maybe you can desolder it on the N6, but you need some skills for it. Or a good friend

When I go to the purchase Motorola care site the pull down options only has Nexus 6 (Purchases from motorola.com) as an option.
I love the way the USB clicks in place. Insert from an angle that is below the phone rather than straight on and it goes in easy peezy!

I noticed pretty much right away that it is not a very pleasant experience plugging the device in, the cable doesn't fit super well and seems to take too much force, that mixed with the tear down and seeing that the port is on the same board as everything else worries me...

Because of that I am pretty sure I will be returning this phone tomorrow and picking up something else I can't have a non fixable device that already seems destined to break.

That's the same way that ALL microusb ports are.
Microusb is literally, the WORST plug configuration ever supplied. They are extremely fragile.
The good news is, that you don't need the microusb port for *anything*.
Its got wifi for transferring data.
It has a wireless charging coil.
