Wireless charging with the Nokia dt900 - Nexus 4 General

Just thought I'd give other Nexus 4 users a heads up about using this charger (it works, don't worry, just has some caveats). I got the charger today and was excited to start using wireless charging so I plugged everything in and put my phone on the charger. It started charging... and then stopped... and then started charging... and then stopped... and then the light started blinking on the charger (indicating a charging problem). I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I tried a few positions and some worked for a little longer than others, but I kept running into the same problem. I couldn't find any posts complaining about trouble or issues with the charger though so I decided to keep investigating (and didn't see any posts about anyone actually using the dt900 with the nexus 4).
Then I realized the phone was sliding ever so slowly off the charger (by now I think everyone knows how easy it is for this phone to slide off even 'flat' surfaces). I guess any movement at all really messes up the charging. For now I just threw an upside-down mousepad over the charger, which has stopped the phone from sliding. Wireless charging now seems to work as expected. Overall it seems pretty flexible with regards to position, and it charges even without direct contact (and I'm not using a thin mousepad either), but I guess even barely perceptible motion really messes it up.
tl;dr charging works, but only if you prevent the phone from moving at all.

Yup. Daydream starts and it continues charging.

Where can you buy one of these nokia chargers? Is AT&T the only place to get them so far (with the purchase of lumia 920)?

Pretty cool, I wish the N4 charged with the Palm Touchstone that I got, but it doesn't seem to work. At least it works well as a kind of stand of my phone. I'm hoping Google releases the charging orbs soon!

I got mine from Verizon's online store, though they only have the white and black versions.

I want to know how much google plans on selling the charging orb. The price on the nokia charger is around what i was expecting a wireless charger to cost. The nokia charger looks better IMO then the nexus orb.

Hmmm... I'll have to try this method with my JBL PowerUp. I'm having the same disconnect problems. It's really upsetting since I payed $300 for it hopefully it works. I'll wait until I get my rear screen protector. That should add some grip. If not, I'll try adding grip to the charger using another screen protector, or a gadget pad that I have for my dashboard.
Edit: this method did not work for my JBL
I still have the same issues of disconnecting every 3 seconds. I might have to return it and invest in a different wireless charger or wait for the orb. Then I'll have to get a separate nfc speaker. :/

The mouse pad trick worked for me.
I took the pad and placed it over the mouse pad, used a razor blade and cut out the shape.

I'm experiencing the same intermittent charging problem on mine. Overnight, my phone only got up to 70% charged. I'll have to try adding some friction, like a mouse pad.
Anyone use the LG charging pad sold through Verizon?

The LG pad works great on the N4, only annoying thing is that the LG charger beeps when you put the phone on it. Gets annoying after a while.

If you turn your phone off it will charge fully with no blinking lights from the charger.

You can also add two rubber bands to the charger to make it stick. Works perfect!

I also have the DT-900 but i feel that it charges very slowly. Could it be due to the low output of 750mA?

Yes it's because it's only 750mA. The USB provided with the Nexus 4 is 1200mA.

I have the dt-900 and my nexus 4 has a TPU case. I tried a ton of times to get it to work and it would always stop after a while and charge really slowly when it did. is the solution really this simple? The mousepad keeps it charging while the friction between my case and the charger couldn't?
I'll have to give this a shot.

I have not seem Samsung has this product for Note 2 but see lots of 3rd party wireless chargers available on the market. Is there any difference or anything we should watch for such accessary for Note 2? Thanks!

it's about both, you need both the receiver and transmitter for wireless charging.
I investigated wireless charging for a time, but it appears nearly all wireless chargers charge at a particularly slower rate (0.5A). With such a big battery on the Note 2, this leads to pretty crazy charge times. Having said that, there are 'some' chargers which are 1A, like so:

I just bought a 3rd party receiver sticker and charging pad. The receiver sticker is placed beneath the back cover. It works with Samsung charger comes with the phone. When I place my Note 2 on the pad, there is a pop up message saying "Wireless charging - You have placed the device within range. Now charging wirelessly...". I am testing how long it will take to have a complete charge. The initial feeling is that the charging is slower as compared with wired charging with Samsung charger.

Synergy Wireless Charger
Hi Bryan792 and jyan_osu,
Thanks for mentioning Synergy. I'd be more than happy to answer any additional questions anyone has in this forum. Synergy might disrupt the earth's magnetic field when using the Compass, but any receiver module with a magnet could have a similar impact on the earth's magnetic field. If you use the compass regularly, wireless charging may not be for you. Please note that we have not experienced any issues with the Note 2 pen.
For more information about Synergy, please go to Kickstarter.com and search "Synergy".
Thanks again.

ANY way to charge 2012 nexus 7 wirelessly?

Do you guys know if there is any way to charge our tablet wirelessly? Is Qi charger the only way? And it's not supported for the 1st gen, am I correct?
I really hate wires...
You have to mod to add a Qi wireless charging coil or a palm touchstone coil to charge wirelessly.
Or you can buy a pogo dock and use it to charge, it's close enough to wireless.
Beamed from my Grouper
There's no such thing as wireless charging, you still need the wires (going to the desktop part of the charger) and when you use that method you don't have any choice where you put the device when it's on charge.
If you just plug a cable into the device you can plonk it down anywhere the cable will reach.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Google-Nexus-7-hack-adds-wireless-charging-voids-warranty_id37573
The short answer is of course no. Personally, I would try to opts away from attempting any mods like this; wireless charging is still; in it's infancy and is "a generation newer" than this Nexus 7 version.
WTF!!

I can't decide if you are just trolling or if you really are clueless.
In case you're serious, learn some basic physics before you shout your mouth off.
Right now - today - the only way to 'wirelessly' charge a device is to have an induction coil in it and put it right next to another induction coil which is connected BY WIRE to the mains. So while it's handy to be able to do that you can't just set it down anywhere and expect it to charge.
If it were possible to set up charging from a telephone mast miles away you would be dead from cancer (from the radiation) or cooked long before the device was charged up.
Take your own advice.
I'm not your brother.

Hi, simple math problem here. The cost of a nexus 7 1st gen (around USD 130.00 used on ebay), plus getting a coil from another device (USD 25.00 if you dont have it) maybe a broken palm pre or a touchpad on ebay, also a touchstone charger (maybe USD 25.00 on ebay) (you could also get a QI coil from another device, but then you will need the QI charger, and thats more money), That's USD 180.00, plus the shipping and the trouble of doing the mod and maybe breaking the damn thing. Let's say USD 200.00, the new nexus is USD 229.00 (IS IT WORTH IT).

You are wrong. You can wireless charge your phone (if it's capable of doing it) from the QI charger to the phone itself.
We know the QI charger must be connected in order to give power, but YES you can wireless charge your phone. I personally like to plug the damn thing, but is nice to just place your phone on the QI and let it charge by doing nothing else.

You've missed my point, sure there's no wire connecting the phone and the charger but you still have to put the phone physically 'on' the charger plate. I have a HP Touchpad and Touchstone and it's great to be able to just sit it down on the TS to charge but if I'm sitting on the sofa using it and it's low battery I have to stop using it and put it back on the TS charge it up, or plug a cable into it. In the real world you can call it wireless if you like but it's still got to be connected.

Wireless charging is GREAT on this device at least for me, I'm quite happy since the N4 glass back was a big issue not to mention the wakelock. I have a LG WCP300 Charger and a Nokia DT900 which everyone hated because it sucked a$$ on the N4, but I kept it because it works great for my 2013 N7; but I'm Happy to inform that it works Flawlessly on the N5 almost Better if not, than the LG WCP300, just "set it and forget it" no issues whatsoever,So yeah The Best Cheap Wireless Charger Works With the N5. Chariging time take a bit longer than with regular AC Chatger, but its barely noticeable.
This Week I'm Getting 2 Covers, a Spigen Ultra Hybrid and a Caseolog Slim Fit TPU , and will report back with any issues, although i dont think i'll get any. (fingers crossed)
Any questions or comments are welcome!
I've got 3 of the Nokia chargers. They work well. I've been trying to figure out how to rig up a stand for the N5 with a wireless charger so I can use it as a night stand clock at night too.
I've got one at work and home, it is pretty nice to set the phone down and have it charge and not have to mess with plugging it in.

Can you confirm whether or not the WCP-300 stops charging the phone when the battery is full? I have the WCP-700 wireless charger and can confirm that it does NOT stop charging the Nexus 5, which concerns me.
With the Nexus 4 the WCP-700 would charge the phone until full. Then the green blinking light on the charger would turn solid green and it would stop charging until the phone fell below 95% charge. Then it would begin charging again. I believe this is how the charger was designed to work.
However, the charger just continues to charge the Nexus 5 continuously and the blinking green charge light stays blinking constantly, even when the battery is full. So until I can get this figured out I've resorted to just plugging the phone in with the stock charger.

Don't worry about overcharging. Whether supplying power via USB or Qi, the battery charging circuit will regulate the current drawn from the supply and take only what is required. Leaving the phone plugged in will trickle charge (either constant or modulated current draw) to keep the battery topped up.
The only issue with keeping it charged is that eventually this will degrade the batteries performance. Read more here: How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries
I have a Maxell Air Voltage with works great with the N5.
I've noticed that the N5 is less sensitive to it's position on the charger compared to the N4 was.
Is it safe to leave my phone on one of these things all day while I'm at my desk at work?

Where I Live At The Moment My Phone's AP is my only source of Internet, so I leave mine for Prolonged Hours Too, no problems either, and Thanks to "thejonesyboy" for your reply.

I do not recommend it, if the phone is on especially if it's on network it will constantly lose some battery % and then recharge to 100% and lose and recharge, you may not notice, but doing it for a year and it definitely shortens battery life.
Almost everyone in the world leaves their phone on charge over night, be it via mains/USB or wireless, it's not going to cause a problem.
In fact, Li-Ion batteries 'prefer' to be topped up little and often rather than large charge/discharge cycles.

Recommend wireless charger for S7 Edge?

I'm trying to decide whether to get a wireless charger for my S7 Edge. I have looked at a few options but can't seem to find one that meets my requirements. Reviews often mention a noise when charging which, as it will be right next to my bed, is a definite no-no. Also I don't want any bright lights as my OH already complains about the amount of lights showing from my night-time tech plugged in. I could tape over small lights though.
I'm not bothered about fast charging as it would be overnight. Obviously reliability is important and not heating up too much. Any recommendations please? I am in the UK.
I had a look at the Spigen but I have very little room next to my bed and it would take up a lot of room. I have heard that the official Samsung is noisy while charging?
I bought a Bedside table with wireless charging at IKEA model "SELJE" it works great no noise!
It has a small led when charging is activated, but it is covered by the phone so no problem it lights...

You can charge 2 devices at the same time since the charger also has a USB port.
Max. power induction charging: 5W.
1 USB port.
Voltage USB port: 5Vdc.
Current USB port: Max. 2000mA.
Wow, I never knew these existed! Sadly, my bedroom furniture is all oak so this table wouldn't fit in very well.

I bought a CHOETECH some time ago. Here's a link: https://www.amazon.de/CHOETECH-Indu...eräte-schwarz-Schwarz-mit-Kabel/dp/B015K8D8WI
Placed it on my bedside table and it works perfect. Not too large and no noise at all; it does have some LED's to indicate charging (different color for slow or fast) but they are automatically dimmed when it's dark. In an almost completely dark room I really have to look very good to see if they are on
HappyLlama can you let me know what model number this one is please. I can't find it on the link you've given and would like to find it in the UK.

I like the look of the Seneo too but have found a very useful review of the ChoeTech 518 on You Tube and it seems to have everything I need so I'm going to order that. Thanks for everyone's help.

That's the same one I have. It works great but since it's on my nightstand and I use my phone as a night/alarm clock, I had to put a piece of tape over the front LED as it was too bright for a dark room.
There's some guy selling official Samsung chargers for like £5 on eBay now. I think they're probably the S6 version, which means only 1amp output.... but absolutely perfect for charging your phone at night
That's what I'm using, they look ****ing sweet too haha.

Ummm.... That statement doesn't compute. I'm 99.9% sure they're cheap knockoffs.

Just ordered this one. Will keep you updated

I just got a official Samsung wireless charger but it just says "Wireless charging has paused" all the time, so im thinking of buying another one. Im looking at this atm, https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01FQTMOBC/ref=noref?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&s=electronics - Will it fast charge my Exynos version of S7 Edge? It seems its Quick Charge 2.0 as in only supports Snapdragon version. If not, can anyone recommend or say what I need to look at for a fast charge wireless stand? Its important its a stand.
Its input values, right? On the Samsung official one it says "Input 5.0V::::2.0A 9.0V:::::1.67A"
Thanks alot!

Fast QI charger with USB port and no light

I am looking for a fast QI charger for my S7E that does not light up and one or more USB ports on it. I want this because I will place it on my nightstand in my bedroom where I want it dark (hence no lights) and I want to be able to connect a sleep monitor (hence the USB port). Can anyone make recommendations? relevant recommendations will receive heartfelt thanks.
Something like these two together should do the trick. I use this quick charge stand and love it. It does have a small LED on the front but you can just cover it with a small piece of black electrical tape if need be.

I got the Anker Powerport QI 10. It has lights but only when you put the phone on it. It lasts for 5secs and then turns off.
Thanks for the responses guys. Unfortunately, neither is quite what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something like this but with fast QI https://www.amazon.com/Ugreen-Wirel...&qid=1480615095&sr=1-267&keywords=fast+qi+usb

No problem but if you use what I linked, you will get 4 USB ports to plug devices into along with a fast qi charger. It's technically 2 things on the desk but it does exactly what you want.

Unfortunately, its not really want I'm looking for. I I have a small shelf next to my bed that has just enough room for my glasses, phone and sleep monitor. So I really just want one cord running from the wall up to the shelf and then the USB cable for the sleep monitor plugged into the pad.
Try this one. Bought it few days ago and it has been working well for me!
This will solve the problem with a light.
I stumbled over this today and remembered this thread;

Dammit i hate it so much that all those wireless chargers put the BRIGHTEST led indicator they can find right in front of the charger.
Wouldn't it make sense to use a low-powered charger (1A or less) to put on your night stand? In that way you don't overheat your battery - which will make it last longer - and since you probably sleep for more than an hour a day, you don't really have to worry about the duration until it is fully charged, do you?
yup
youre totally right. quick charger in the car is better idea! night stand quick charging to me always seemed kinda dumb. why am i even looking to spend $50 on one. im gonna get the regular paced qi charger.. that way it slowly charges the phone at night and ill pick up the quick charger for the truck

I have a wireless fast charger beside my bed and my phone is never hot in the morning. Also, couldn't you just turn off fast wireless charging anyway if you're worried (unnecessarily IMO) about somehow damaging your phone?

If you use fast charging, the phone is going to be fully charged long before morning, so even if it got hot while charging you wouldn't know by morning. It stops charging once it's full. Bur yes, you can turn off fast charging. But then why pay for a fast charger?
I agree with the other poster. If the point is charging over night, you don't need speed. Fast chargers DO generate more heat in the battery than slow chargers. It's basic physics.
