Get rid of that pinch lag on browser (Atleast a temporary fix) - Nexus 4 General

Nearly every browser has a pinch to zoom problem on the Nexus 4, Chrome is a pile of crap as it is but it also happens on the AOSP browser where you have to have your fingers almost an inch apart before it will recognise that your trying to zoom. Anyway ill stop complaining now This isnt a hardware defect. Download FireFox browser. There is NO ZOOM LAG! So im guessing it can be fixed relatively soon, maybe. A thanks would be appreciated if I helped in any way!

Touchwiz lags on Galaxy Tab 8.9 (7310)

Hi,
I've posed a question about this issue before, but other than installing a different launcher, has anyone figured out how to make touchwiz smooth as butter like the 10.1?
By the way, I asked Samsung tech support about this issue. They told me to do a hard reset. It didn't fix anything, it still stutters. I've read several reviews and many of them don't mention the lag/stutter. It makes no sense how many people don't mention this issue. I went back to Bestbuy and they had two of them on display. They both stuttered, but the 10.1 on display was smooth. Hopefully ICS will fix the issue.
Thanks,
GP
I just got mine yesterday and it was laggy right out of the box, before I even installed anything. I love Samsung devices and after owning both versions of the Epic 4g, im used to Touchwiz. I was really surprised how laggy and slow it was. I installed ADW launcher and the problem is completely solved. Rooting and flashing a ROM would obviously work as well.

Actually all tegra 2 tabs have the same problem and unfortunately it seems to be a hardware problem. The only difference with GT8.9 is that it has this problem in landscape and all other tabs have it in portrait. This is because the screen in GT8.9 is rotated 90 degrees.
I have also thought about contacting support about this issue to see what they tell me, but I'm afraid they have no idea why it is like it is, so I haven't seen a point in contacting them.
If you absolutely want to keep TouchWiz, maybe rooting and deleting all the bloatware would speed things up.

I'am installed Honeycomb 3.2 (3.1 was out in the box) - lags become less.
I also upgraded to HC 3.2 15 minutes after opening box. I've personally never experienced any lag. That's just me. If it gets better than this I'm all in.

10.1 devices from what i understand are landscape bias, smaller devices like our 8.9 are portrait bias.
As for Touchwiz, its touchwiz, its a laggy overlay that is a completely unnecessary and drains precious resources when we have a usable dailt driver ICS ROM out of the Galaxian Soup? guys. Most of the lag will be gone. Look at the 10.1 ICS alpha ROM, night and day difference
A word to the wise:
Live wallpapers lag the hell out of this tab. Not rooted stock anyways...
Confirming lag out of the box on 8.9 with TouchWiz. If it were not for ADW Launcher EX showing it CAN be smooth, I would have returned the tab.
Why do people like TouchWiz? I don't really understand. Its quite a resource beast for not much functionality.
just my opinion.
Please understand, TouchWiz is not the problem. Try something simple, turn your tab to portrait, now swipe the homescreens... do you see lag? No.
It's hardware problem and all Tegra 2 tabs have this problem, with one big difference, they have this problem in portrait mode and we have it in landscape. On GT8.9 the screen is rotated 90 degrees and thats the reason we have it in landscape.

I think Samsung did that 90 degrees rotation on purpose. They thought people would use the 8.9 more in portrait than in landscape mode due to its hardbook form (reading and some light web browsing). Then they left the landscape mode as the default for the 10.1 thinking its users would tend to use the big screen for movies and such.

I agree, it must be for that reason and I do use it mostly in portrai mode.
Honestly the lag with HC3.2 is not that bad. I'm not big in useless customizations but I like the small applications that appear at the center of the tab without closing your current app. It makes writing down notes or calculating something very quick just like in a laptop. I think android should come with their own set of this tiny apps.

I would disagree with that since the layout on the 8.9 tab would indicate it was designed for landscape mode. The way the logos are positioned (front and rear), camera position (front and rear), and 30 pin connector location would suggest.
Compare that to the layout of the above items on the GTab 7.7 or smaller GTabs, now those were designed with portrait in mind.
I also had the same crappy lag on tocuhwiz UX with HC 3.1 in both portrait and landscape. I flashed overcome and installed ADW and haven't looked back. The tab rocks now.
I really hope aftermarket and dev support pick up for this.
This would instantly pull me from wanting a Xyboard 8.2
There are some appealing features to me on the 8.2 but it's been DOA for the most part.
With the 8.9 it just worries me the same as the Xyboard. At least there is root and rom. Just need the aftermarket to pick up.
Not gonna lie, a huge basis of my choosing a tab is if I can get a really stout case for it. I need Otterbox or Gumdrop to do something for this tab.
Emailed them both and neither have responded....which isn't really impressive to me considering I've bought three cases from Gumdrop and 4 or 5 from Otterbox...
8" tabs are the future...7" is almost too small and 10" you can only do so much with. 8" is absolutely perfect.

Agreed.
You would think gumdrop would have one on the way for the 8.9 since they did a 10.1 version...I don't like the added thickness so a TPU case works for me.
Also turning of all animations in settings might make the tab more smooth.
I've the same problem. Any solution?

It will take some time to get used to it, so for now I have disabled it and possibly enable it again when I have time and patience, a screen protector and case for it. To play with the tilt scrolling feature, in the case I drop it.

Just to know that tilt scrolling is causing wakelocks and battery drains because of that..better to turn it off for now..

It's in Chrome Developer settings. It's when you click on the multiple page button (the little icon in the upper right corner of the browser. Essentially by "flinging," the device, it cycles through the webpages you have open.
Did this feature get sent to file 13?
this is great!!! though it does drain battery.

Stuttering in Youtube?

I made this thread in the Note 3 international by mistake. Has anyone noticed some slight stuttering when playing youtube videos? I've only tried HD videos but that really shouldn't matter. I had my note 2 with Cleanrom play back the same exact video side by side with the Note 3 and the Note 3 would stutter while the Note 2 was fluid. It's slight but it's still there.
The Note 2 also doesn't have the annoying slight stuttering when scrolling in any browser at about medium speed.
What's going on here people? This can't be normal.

I noticed this too (youtube). Seemed to do it on any video and would clean up on some, but not others. Might be 4.3 issues?? The browser issue has been hit or miss with people for a while.

I really hope whatever is causing this issue is determined and taken care of. I'm starting to wonder if they even test these phones before they release them.
Stuttering on two of the most used services on a smartphone (browsing and Youtube) just shouldnt be there and is unacceptable. The funny thing is is that the system itself doesn't stutter. All menus in settings scroll fluidly. Too bad I don't spend my whole time on a phone adjusting settings
Mine was doing this too yesterday after YouTube updated. Seems like a restart fixed the issue.

Nexus 5 faulty camera software, fix on the way? (According to The Verge)

I have to say that after battery life (I knew from the moment the specs leaked, that 2300 mah wouldn't be enough) that the camera quality has been my biggest dissapointment, the phone has a HARD time focusing, the picture quality it's mediocre/sometimes decent and it really doesn't make sense since google is making a big deal out of the camera.
Check out the tag line for the nexus 5 on the play store: "Nexus 5 helps you capture the everyday and the epic in fresh new ways. It's the slimmest and fastest Nexus phone ever made, powered by Android 4.4, KitKat."
If you go the official nexus 5 website you will find lots of info about how good the camera is : http://www.google.com/nexus/5/
or the commercial ... it's all about the camera
Anyway, according to Joshua Topolsky, The Verge's Chief Editor, there's hope and we will get an update trying to fix what's broken, do you guys think it will really make a difference? Or is this camera simply a poor camera? Here's the quote:
"Representatives from the Android team say that software is to blame for the weak performance, not hardware, and reps tell me that a fix is coming to deal with the issues in the upcoming weeks. I've even seen an early build of the new software, and while it's only a minor improvement — autofocus is a hair faster, but still inconsistent, and picture quality hasn't changed — it's nice to see Google already at work.
Of course, there's no set date for a fix at this point, and I don't know how much the camera can actually be improved through software, but if the Moto X is any kind of example, there might just be a solution to this very disheartening problem."

The verge are right in this case. The focus is awfully slow. Google pioneered the instant capture feature on the galaxy nexus, dont know why they abandoned it on the nexus 4 and 5.

That's just not true, and you are very biased, it seems. Like others have said, there is significant lag in the camera focus and my Nexus 5 can take much much better photos than my Nexus S, but not any faster. And that is not okay.
I get the impression that all the effort on the software side so far has gone into HDR+
My experience playing around with it is that HDR+ not only improves detail in bright/dark areas, but it also results in sharper images overall. (This is contrary to what I have found with other HDR implementations which have resulted in blurrier images). Of course sometimes you don't want to use HDR (Maybe you want to photograph a figure silhouetted against the sunset for example).
Whilst I didn't buy the N5 as a replacement for an SLR, hopefully the non-HDR mode can be improved. After all, the best camera is the one you have with you.
(I also agree regarding the camera focus. At the very least, an option to pre-focus would make a huge difference!)
Shutter is slow... but it takes decent shots
It's no secret that Google needs to work on their camera software.

"Who wants to work on photo-sphere." - "Yay!"

The same here, very surprised by picture quality in low light using HDR+ (for landscape mainly)... I mean im sure there are better cameras but for a phone im impressed
But i've a weird problem don't know if software or hardware but the camera app stay black screen when opened from the lock screen. it happened many times, i had to put my pin code kill the app and launch again to get the camera app working again.

At least the shutterlag and slow focus should be fixable, though. I hope.
I'm not expecting Note 3-level of camera, but it'd be nice if we could have say... 70% of the Note 3's camera performance.

However, try using video mode and pinch to zoom. Does this cause Camera to freeze for seconds for others, either recovering eventually or crashing out?

Since you have those items, why don't you compare the camera shutter lag to those other phones?
You can always say that for you it's not a problem - and that might very well be as you say, but you'll never be able to deny that there might be people that want to capture "that moment" and with that lag it's just infeasible.
If your camera does not have any worse lag than say the iPhone 5s, please make a video so we can see for ourselves.

Look this thread is about issues with the Nexus 5's camera. What good are you doing when you tell people "It's not that bad guys! You just have to anticipate the 1-2 seconds lag, I learned it too!"
It's just ignorant to tell people there is no issue with the camera at all, because you yourself can work around the lag issue. You do see that this might annoy people, especially normal users?

Choppy scrolling on webpages

Hey guys, just bought the Mi 9 after the Galaxy S7, and sometimes scrolling is really laggy on some more complex websites. It wouldn't annoy me that much but my S7 was much smoother when browsing. Same on different browsers and on the Mi 9SE too. Any fix or Chrome flags for that? Other apps, such as Facebook are smooth as butter.
I guess ads cause this, but I can't make them all filtered with Adguard, it also makes WiFi slower. Thanks!
I also do come from an s7 and whilst the scrolling is still choppy on the mi 9 in chrome, it was definitely choppier on the s7 for me, my s7 being relatively clean. If you're not into chrome that much, you could just use the mi browser as it's way smoother but probably with less features.
As hard to believe as it may be, I kinda like it being a bit choppy because when the scrolling is perfectly smooth on this phone like when using facebook I notice a lot of blur and that annoys me a lot
I've just installed Bromite browser, seems much smoother now. Have you tried turning on DC dimming? Maybe that would help with the blurring effect.

DC dimming definitely doesn't make it better and might even make it worse, though I'm not completely sure as I have used it for about 15 mins. The only ways to decrease motion blur would be to decrease pixel response time and/or increase refresh rate.

For how long you have been using the MI 9? I switched a month ago, and there may be some blurring there and there, but it's not that annoying for me. I was more annoyed by the browser lagging. However Bromite browser makes it more usable.
I was really disappointed by the night shots first, but Gcam makes much better snaps than the S7 did.

Been using it since the 26th of july. The blur is a bit more pronounced than what I see on a true flagship like a note 10, problem is that even on those 1000$ phones the blur is pronounced because smartphone manufacturers never made it a priority to improve it, at least not the ones that still make 60hz phones.
I'm disappointed by pretty much everything the camera does, haven't tried gcam yet but that still wouldn't change the fact that using stock app this phone takes meh pictures all around.
I've kinda led your thread into the off-topic abyss and am sorry for that

No problem, it's a solved issue.
Really you are? It's not that bad. I mean it's not that easy to use as S7's camera was, as I could take perfect pictures while walking etc (I guess because of the OIS), but it makes nice pictures. MIUI is which a bit unfamiliar for me, but at least I can theme it.
I guess you should check the GCam thread, it really improves many things with the camera.
