You have to have a gps connected for your tab to know where you are. Check the gps threads for options.

I did that already, check the GPS connection in the option, still got problem.
I let the "WAITING FOR LOCATION" for 5 minutes, and still no luck.
Since I bought my Gtab, this Navigation App is not working...
Any thought?..Thanks

What kind of gps are you using? Do you have BlueGPS installed and running on the gtab when you connect your bluetooth gps? I have a Bluetooth Tomtom gps and connect it to my gpad using BlueGPS. When I go to navigation it instantly locks my location. I've also used the same method to connect my LG Optimus gps via bluetooth with perfect results.
You also must be connected to wi-fi for Google maps to work unless you have an app that allows you to download the maps to the sd card (ie: CoPilot).
'Locus' also allows you to download maps from various sources and supports GPS. I've had it working with my TomTom bluetooth GPS receiver.

Do you mean, I have to install GPS apps before the NAVIGATION apps to work?
You're aware that the GTab doesn't have a GPS in it? You need to physically buy a bluetooth gps and pair it for navigation to work. You can spoof your location using several apps, but for an actual location you need to buy one.

I've seen these simple USB GPS receiver antennas that hook to a laptop for GPS duties so naturally I'm thinking why can't this be done for the nook. Ideally we would have a dual/split port so power could still be supplied at the same time.
I'd rather have this config since I don't like the idea of tethering to a GPS capable cell for privacy reasons and it ties up the cell too.
Why couldn't this be possible? Is it just a matter of the Nook recognizing the GPS antenna and being able to get a software package to recognize it?
Any ideas?
With CM7, and a bluetooth GPS reciever, this is no problem. We will never be able to build a GPS into the device, but we can get close enough...
Yes, my intention would be to leave the GPS antenna in the vehicle and just hook up when I get in. Along with MP3 duties of course. It shouldn't be hard to find or make a USB gender changer with dual connections.

Im not following, sorry.
I just ordered a "kit" for my NC actually - a car window mount, and a stand-alone BT GPS. I plan on attaching the the GPS to the window mount via velcro, and leave it in the car. You don't need USB at all (nor would it work, since our nook does not currently support usb host). Just get a BT module, and leave it in the car; connect it to the nook when you need it. done.
Ok I see what your saying. But Im not familiar with Bluetooth recievers. Are we talking about just a regular GPS with a screen and all? Then why hook it up to the nook? Or are we talking about a little box that just sits on the dash or tucked away somewhere?

Ah, let me fill ya in then.
What i am talking about are standalone recievers - nothing more than a GPS and BT transmitter. No screen, no frills. Most have batteries that will last for weeks, and are small enough to store anywhere in the car when not in use. YOu can see a good selection here:

Now, i guess i cannot guarantee, but in theory, ANY BT gps should work with our system, since all GPS's transmit in the same standard. All you should need for software on the nook will be:

Assuming my GPS arrives sometime soon, i will be able to give ya some first hand advice.
You will still need a data connection if you intend to use Google Maps for your GPS software.
If you want to use it without a data connection, you will need something like this:

Also note, Bluetooth range is very limited on the NC. My BT GPS has to be within 2 feet of the NC to connect.
That is true, a stand alone program is the best, but google will cache the maps if you pre-plan the route.
As for distance - with a car mounted GPS< you really don't need to worry about that - the GPS should be by the windshield anyway, so keeping it close to the nook isn't an issue..

You'd still need a data connection. The best probable solution would be to tether to a smartphone that has GPS - so the Nook has a data connection for the Google Maps and Navigation, and GPS data from the phone's GPS.
I was interested in the same thing and went so far as to successfully pair my Garmin bluetooth gps unit with my CM7 nook, but I was not able to actually read any gps data. (This unit was successfully used with a linux laptop and car computer, so it works in linux.)
While looking for a way (hack or software) to read the gps data I found the TetherGPS app, which meets my needs- and yes, I have received phone calls and browsed the web on the phone while using nav on the nook without problems.
The biggest issue I have found in the past and NOW is that I do not think much of the other gps nav options available on Android (or linux!) and caching a limited tileset with Google maps is not enough for my needs. My routes often change.
I do have another bluetooth puck around, if I can find it... I will test to see if that one is easier for the Nook to read data from.

I had trouble with some GPS apps.
I was able to use the GPS and data access on my Motorola Cliq to have GPS voice guided navigation.

That is how I accomplished it.
If you have a hardware GPS, then you only need the 1 app, which is even easier, but I still recommend wifitether or barnicle for data access (you can download the maps for offline use if you plan ahead.)

I actually tried those apps to no avail, which is why I started looking for the other puck (not as accurate but easier to connect) and alternative solutions.
I actually had looked at all of the other (non- Google) nav apps for Android before to use with a now unused Droid (original) but found them all to be ... less than desirable for various reasons.
Note that I am NOT trying to discourage this project- it is possible, I am certain, but much like linux navigation software... lacking a certain "polish" if not functionality.
I have searched this topic but they all centered on Macs or got off topic or someone gave an answer that didnt even solve the solution. So i thought i would ask myself. Is there any way to share my LAPTOPs wifi TO my DROID3???

I have a bluetooth usb adapter on my laptop I am not sure how it does it but it allows me to get online with my droid 3 via the bluetooth link, I click on connect via access point and it works. Sometimes it works and sometimes the signal gets killed, but try connecting through a bluetooth usb adapter.
I know you said preferably over Bluetooth or USB but have you considered trying something like a virtual access point for your PC? It would require WIFI but you could run a software app on your PC that broadcasts as an access point that you could connect to from your phone.
You have a phone that is wifi capable, but you want to thether to your pc to use the wifi connection.
Oh and I hate smartasses too.

i have looked at those, but i prefer usb because it does not affect the battery life of my laptop as much. thanks for the advice.

yes because my laptop has the intel ultimate 6300 wireless card. it can pick up alot mroe connecttins and connect to 5ghz. My droid3 cant pick up the connections i need. offer help or please stop commenting.

do you know the name of the adaptor? this sounds perfect
ASUS bluetooth adapter I got it from meritiline a couple years ago, just been using it recently. And all I did was turn on the bluetooth on my phone and it worked, didn't download any software or anything.

Ifnyou have windows 7 just install connectify
Google it (smartassingly probably just add a .com to that..)
It adds an AP virtual. That sjould not spend alot more of power as you have already wifi running.

If you laptop has Bluetooth (It should, I thought all Intel wifi chipsets in laptops were also Bluetooth) then what you want is a PAN "Personal Area Network". I thought the basic bluetooth stack in Windows supported this out of the box. (The Toshiba BT stack I used with Windows XP did, I don't know for sure about the MS BT stack in Windows 7 though).
Then you just turn on Internet Connection Sharing for you Wifi adapter to the Bluetooth PAN adapter.
Something like that anyway. I'm going from memory on the Windows side, and assuming the Droid 3 (etc.) supports PAN on its Bluetooth setup.
Doing it with USB though is trickier. On Windows 7, my ME863 appears as a network device with IP address, but I don't know if it'd work if I simply used ICS to share a link to the device because I don't know that the phone would be looking for a DHCP server. (It _is_ a DHCP server at this point)
Are you sure your not using the phones 3g or wifi. Did you try turnin on airplane mode and seeing if you still have internet

I just had a play, and I don't think my bluetooth solution is as easy as I'd hoped.
My Milestone 3 was able to join a PAN with my laptop and form their little adhoc network.
The best phone-side instructions I could find are at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666988 however a look around suggests that Windows 7 ICS won't let you share a network connection _to_ a BT network. I certainly couldn't see a way, although possibly it was because my phone is exporting a default gateway, rather than because of any inherent limitation of Windows.
It's a starting point, but not a particularly promising one. Whether ICS can be made to share Internet to the bluetooth PAN or not is really the only sticking point for "possible" versus "impossible" but a root-enabled App or possibly custom ROM would be needed on the phone to move from "possible" to "easy".

Just had a quick go, and it wouldn't bridge 'em.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com.../thread/84731dc8-0b23-433b-a58b-a0a2d41d93be/ suggests that a third-party Bluetooth stack would work though, just not the MS stack.
Currently been using my Nexus with my GSII and bluetooth tethering for internet access, thinking that bluetooth being lower powered, short range, its probly less demanding on the phones battery.
Does this still apply to modern devices with combined radios?
Also has anyone found a widget to connect/reconnect to a paired bluetooth device?
I think the nexus is going to deep sleep, and closes the connection to the phone. But it doesn't bring it back when it wakes...which means its Settings>Bluetooth>Click on Phone...which is 2 clicks too many!

just got it set up, it works great! Thanks for this, I was using Wi-fi tether the other day, killed all 3 of my batteries

I've been trying bluetooth tether all day today.
I have GSM Galaxy Nexus running official 4.1.1
Nexus 7, on 4.1.1 also.
I get them bluetooth paired up and bluetooth tethered via the Galaxy Nexus' cell data.
It works for like a minute then after that, they would disconnect (unpair from bluetooth).
Been doing this all day long every time I try.
Also the 2 are only 3ft away.
Any Ideas?

Same setup, and same issue.
On a side note is there a way to use NFC to automatically pair the two devices via Bluetooth? I'd like to just touch them together and voila they are paired?

Just to pair normally? No.
But if you beam a picture, it auto turns on the bt, pairs, sends the picture, then turns off bt. The two devices does not have to be paired up beforehand either.
Google did show off new feature of NFC/BT at Google I/O during the sessions.
They showed off headphones and speakers that when you touch your JB device to the headphone/speaker, it auto pairs and audio starts playing.
So yes it's possible to auto pair devices, but those other devices need to support it.
This is a known bug with the galaxy nexus phone. It will kill BT tether when the phone goes into sleep.
Download an app called wake lock from the play store and set a partial wake lock and the problem will go away.
Your battery drain will be slightly higher though.

So far it seems to be, which it should as Bluetooth is a short range low powered protocol.
I wasn't sure that with the modern design in phones, when the radio's are all one chip, if the power saving would still apply.

Try turning off your WiFi before pairing....I think that worked for me
Are you guys using that PDAnet and FoxFi setup in order to pair the devices? Thats the only way I can bt pair my galaxy nexus and nexus 7 together.

Not having any luck installing PDANet 3.5 on the Nexus 7, any ideas?
Got FoxFi installed on my HTC Desire and ticked Bluetooth DUN. Can pair it to tablet but tablet doesn't get any Internet access, so need PDANet installed for that I think.
Edit: PDANet 2.20 on the market was installable, bluetooth tethering working ok now. Really old version though...
Further edit: Looks like it is "PDANet Tablet" version I'm using, hence the confusion. 2.20 appears to be the latest one.
Just tested BT tethering on my N7 with my SGS2 (which was using wifi at the time). Worked perfectly. I did a quick speedtest and got 750kbps down and 1500kbps up (weird wifi...). I was shocked I would get such good speeds over BT. Anyway, I like this option better then a wifi hotspot. First, it's easier to setup. Second, it (apparently) uses less power. And third, it will allow me to access some special hotspots I might not get on my tablet. For example, with AT&T, they give you free hotspot access at some locations with their devices. I wouldn't be able to use my tablet there directly, but could daisy chain through the phone. Coolbeans.
Bluetoothkeepalive works to keep the bluetooth connection for bluetooth tethering. Just trying it out and hasn't dropped yet over about 15 minutes.

I have installed pdanet and fifox on my HTC sensation. I can connect the Bluetooth from my nexus 7 to the sensation but I can't get internet access. I checked the setting in the Nexus "Use for internet access" but still nothing.
What else should I try?

Go on the tablet, into Bluetooth, and you should see your phone in there, click on it. It'll then say connected. You'll get internet access.
I have now noticed that the bluetooth connection does drop after a minute or so, which can be a little annoying.
I'll try bluetoothkeepalive.
Another good app to get is Bluetooth Auto Tethering, it keeps tethering as an option on every time your phone boots, no extra interaction on the phone to enable tethering every time. Just enable/disable the connection from the tablet to automatically turn tethering on/off on your phone!

You are right about that, I got stuck on doing that yesterday. As for the general discussion about bluetooth tethering vs. wifi tether. I tried it out today and I can say its much better on the battery life, but the speed is pretty low. I keep doing a speed test on my phone and couldn't get over 1.48 Mbps, then tried wifi tether and was easily getting over 5Mbps.

Does anyone succeed in having two phones working with AA ? One stays connected permanently to AA, the second one is connected to BT for calls and texting.
My experience is that even if both are correctly connected when they are alone, once together all is a mess. As soon as the second phone gets connected to AA, the first one gets deconnected from BT.
I tried to break BT connection within the second phone. It gets connected anyway to AA, but this didn't solve the issue. The first one was ejected from BT,stating that another device was already BT connected (even if BT is broken).
Any help ? BT Mac address modification on the first phone to match second phone ?

When you say that you've been toying, do you mean you get it to work or not ?
My purpose is to use a Nexus 7 2013 (not LTE version) as a permanent device connected to AA, and use my phone connected to BT, thus to avoid plugging/unplugging ...
No joy ... Using BT or not has no effect ... Phone is deconnected when tablet is connected to AA...

i tried...
it seems the Bluetooth still auto connect.
theres go my plan
any other way to delete pairing. maybe it work. just my guess

Deleting pairing has no impact. I even succeeded in breaking BT to avoid AA to wake it up but no joy either.
Whenever AA gets connected to the phone (via USB), any other BT connection is rejected stating that another device is already connected ...
Spoofing BT Mac address of soon to be BT-connected phone with the one of AA-connected phone might be a solution ? But not enough geek to try this one...
Seems strange nobody came across this idea ... please help if you did !
I worked it out, permanently disabling the Bluetooth using root. I described it in this thread.

Tried that already... Disabling BT doesn't prevent HU from detecting and kind-of BT pairing the device, ejecting in the same time the phone ... At least in my situation...

I found out a solution.
Strangely, disabling BT did not solve my problem. It seems that the headunit was retrieving information gathered at the first connection...
I then decided to hard reset the headunit. When asked to connect phone to BT, I complied.
In the meantime, I spoofed the BT MAC Address, copying phone's one to tablet. Now they both have the same BT MAC Address.
When tablet was plugged into usb for AA connection, the phone stayed BT connected. It worked and works since then.
Application to spoof BT MAC Address could be easily found on the G market.
i been toying wirh aa2. 9 or aa3. 0 because of non working issues
i accidently noticed my bt does not connect to my car but aa2. 9 still works.
i need to replicate this again.

Please what application to spoof BT MAC Address you did you use? I can find application only for wifi MAC ardress changing.

Try using "app quarantine". This it the only application that really stoped my BT for good.
So success with 2 phones?
Do you need to be rooted to spoof the BT MAC address?

I kind of have it working but cannot control the phone connected by BT from the head unit (which still tries to make calls from the phone connected via AA).
Calls made directly from the phone do however go through the head unit.
Is there a way to control the BT phone via the head unit with the other phone connected via AA?

the method described it realy works (tested on Galaxy S7 and galaxy S5) in function on galaxy S5
it works ok if tha main phone it is conected in HFP mode
but because I have and rSAP mode and I'd like it want to use this type of conection but here are some problems..
the reason it is because I try to build from a galaxy s5 SM-901F (6.0.1, version MMB29M.G901FFXXU1CQE3 rooted with chainfire ) a standalone device im my car for use android auto in the car independent of my normal phone (galaxy S8)
so I want to use in the same time 2 android phones but both want to conect by bluetooth to the car (VW Discovery Pro)
to do that I disable via Esentiale root bluetooth proceses I found and works fine if the main S8 it is conect by HFP protocol
but if s8 is conected by rSAP (and I want to be conected by rSAP) when the second phone is conected by usb(with blutooth off) somehow disconect the sim from main S8 phone (but on the phone show like the rsim it is still working) but not conect to the second phone
if I first conect the android auto (S5) and after connect the phone (S8) rhe rSAP conection works fine
if I first conect the phone (S8) and after connect the android auto (S5) the rSAP conection not work on S8
anyway I want to disable the rsap on the galaxy s5 , how can I do this?
