Same issue, but with Go Launcher. I try to add a widget and it briefly says 'loading' but then nothing happens afterwards. Interestingly, the Go Launcher widgets can be added just fine, the list of them populates and they can be added, so the fundamental mechanism seems fine and because it happened on ADW it doesn't appear to be a launcher-specific issue.

I am having the same problem since the 7.2.2 update. My KFHD is unrooted (I do not have the expertise to do it and do not want to void my warranty), but learned here how to use the ADW launcher (Thanks!). Widgets already installed still work, but can't add new ones to the homescreens. I have had a couple of other issues since the update, and spent about 20 minutes on the phone with Amazon CS yesterday without resolution--she wanted me to deregister, and if that didn't work to do a factory reset. I am unwilling to do that at this point as I don't want to lose my widgets that are still working.
Other issues since update: Business Calendar app and KFHD calendar app will not sync with my Google calendar (they did before).
Notifications are muted, but sound anyway. For now, I will just use the Google calendar on a Chrome webpage, and turn off my Wifi at night so notification sounds won't wake me up, but am not pleased about having to use work-arounds!

1.Download the apk
2.copy it to system/app
3.change permissions to rw-r-r
4.add widgets
Sent from my KFTT using XDA Premium HD app

Tried and it works!
It solved my widget problem with ADW. I hope it will work for the other launchers too.
Thanks a lot!
EDIT:
it solved also the live wallpaper problem! The trik was to move the picker to system\apps, change permissions and NOT install : just leave it there: exacliy as for the widgets picker. Thanks again

Had similarv issues. Installed APEX Launcher and everything works fine.

Is there an option for unrooted KFHD? I was thrilled to find your solution for recovering access to widgets after 7.2.2 upgrade. However after attempting several times I can not copy your apk to system/app... I have concluded that it is because my Kindle is unrooted?????
The widgets were working with 7.2.1 then immediately after the upgrade I could no longer access them to place on screen. Everything else with ADWlauncher EX v1.3.3.8 Is still working with no problems, including still being able to place shortcuts and folders on the homescreen.

I would also like to know if you can get widgets to work without root, as I am not too keen on trying to obtain root access again after almost bricking it the day I got it....

Voted up, thanks!
To those who are unrooted, did Amazon customer service provide any additional info regarding this problem? Hope you get it fixed!

No, CS didn't provide any info, and I was kicked up a level from the first rep. Saw in another thread that there's already a 7.2.3 update, but mine hasn't updated yet. Hopefully that will help. I have noticed that since 7.2.2 my speakers haven't done the random loud pop.

After several attempts with Amazon getting NO HELP because app is sideloaded and not from their App Store. Someone in the Amazon forum said upgrade 7.2.3 apparently helped, but has made no difference for me.
CAN ANYONE HELP?? Please!! Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

[Q] Kindle App shortcut

My NC was rooted using the 12/25 Autonooter app! Pretty darn easy process to say the least! Thanks guys!
After completing all of the steps I went into the Android Market and downloaded the Amazon Kindle app. The app downloaded and installed onto my NC but it doesn't look like it created a shortcut in the Extras folder. Is there a defined process to do this?
I can launch the Kindle app from within the Market app but am hoping to find a way to launch it from somewhere other than the Android Market. I really don't want to install a third party launcher onto the NC so I'm hoping for a different solution. Anyone have any suggestions?

Install a custom launcher like LauncherPro and your apps will appear instantly in the app drawer without rebooting. Not to mention that it will make your NookColor much more awesome in every way.

I love ADW on the Nook. With all the scaling options it has, you can pack in quite a bit of information on each home screen. The app launcher is also very customizable, and the widgets can be manually scaled. It's almost like it was made for the Nook Color.

Chameleon launcher on Fire HD?

Let me preface this by saying I am a paying customer of the chameleon home screen and when I get home this evening I will be contacting the developer to see if I can obtain an apk to try and install on the fire HD.
I was mainly curious if someone else has tried this home screen / launcher replacement on the fire. The app itself I love, and it's getting better with additional widgets being added and also an api for other developers.
If I am able to get an apk to try and install, would I go about doing what most others have done with other launchers?
Set proper permissions for the apk
Move apk into system/app and reboot?
If it's more complicated than that, I'm going to give Nova a try using one of the other threads since I'm fairly novice with this stuff. I am however rooted.
Thanks!

I tried it, and it is easy to get working, just like you said, move, change permissions, and I did not need to reboot. After it was in system/app and proper permissions were set, I pressed the home button and I was prompted to pick which launcher to use.
I thought Chamelon looked good in it's adverts, but I was unable to get the widgets to look the way I wanted. I also had a problem with the weather widget. No location was found (even using wifi) and when I selected by zipcode it found my city but would not get the weather information.
I am sure it's user error, but I removed it and gave up for something else.

Thanks for the reply! I haven't had a chance to try Chameleon yet, but still want to do so, hopefully this weekend. I did try Nova launcher and it just force closes any time I try to select it, but I am getting the choice between stock and Nova. Chameleon certainly has it's work ahead for it, but it's promising imo as long as more developers take to it to make some great widgets.
ADW Launcher EX (paid version) works fine.
GO launcher EX works fine also in the system/apps folder.

ADW Launcher EX: wallpaper location?

Thanks to some helpful folks here I've been able to install ADW Launcher EX on my unrooted KFHD. For the time being I would like to keep it unrooted. The question I have is, is it possible to change the wallpaper? When I first installed ADW, I couldn't change the wallpaper at all, I received the "there is no app that is capable of performing that function" pop-up dialog. Installing an uninstalling another launcher appeared to add or unlock wallpaper changing. But the puzzle is that I see only one wallpaper with no way of locating other wallpapers.
So for an unrooted KFHD running ADW Launcher EX, what tool should I use to change wallpapers and where do those wallpapers need to be placed? Or is it only possible when rooted?
Thanks in advance.
Try Backgrounds HD Wallpapers form the Play store. I had the same problem with my root KFHD and that solved the problem. It has some included and an included browser to search for more online. It will set the pic for you as wallpaper. and it's free!
I took my gallery from my Galaxy S2, and dropped it in System/App changed permissions and worked perfectly. I can change wallpapers from within this app now.

Thanks for the pointer. I'll have to play around with it to see if it allows for selecting locally stored (on the KFHD itself) wallpapers.

Sorry did not read that you where unrooted.

[Q] Change the "Home" key KFHD.

Good afternoon to you all here at XDA,
Until recent I have had no problems with any on my devices when it comes to exploiting and unlocking them but today I started to play around with my girlfriends KFHD and have now run into a few snags.
For now I would like to focus on the Home key function.
I have just installed ADW Launcher EX and after setting it all up, discovered that the home key just takes me back to the stock Kindle Home screen. Is there anyway in which I can set my home key to be default to ADW rather than stock so it will load my ADW's default screen?
Side note: I know you can use Go Launcher EX which I use with my phone but I don't fancy messing around, adding this app to the system folders and the device has a locked bootloader and not mine.
Any help is much appreciated,
Thanks for your time,
Madrox.
I believe the device needs to be rooted. So you can convert the launchers apk file to a system app.
Once it's a system app, you can set it as the default launcher and the home button will work like you want it to.

Thanks for that,
The device is rooted and everything is unlocked and ready to go apart from the Bootloader.
I have seen the /system/app approach but do not want to try it as I cant find out if it is safe on 7.2.2. I've only seen this done on earlier versions and as said device is not mine and I have no Factory Cable, I won't be trying that just yet.

I just set ADW Launcher as systam App with 7.2.2. I had to : as user app it wasn't working at all, All seems to be all right with my tablet. Only, I can' t use widgets and wallpapers - don't know why - while with 7.1.2 they worked perfectly.
Hope to be of some reassurance for you
Tested with GO Launcher EX 3.13 after reading other posts. After messing around half the day with other things, I never actually noticed this post was similar to another about Launchers so this is now a closed matter.

No, you cannot. Rooting shouldn't be THAT difficult though if you have experience on the sort of thing.
But, no, without root, you cannot get another launcher working.

That is not correct. ADW launcher ex works without rooting. The only limitation is that tapping the home key brings up the original kindle ui. But a simple tap of the adw icon in the carousel brings adw back up.

I used ADW Launcher EX version 1.3.3.56
I tried all of the popular launchers, none of them worked. This version of ADW worked for me.
To install it, simply obtain the .apk file and place it on your KFHD. Then use a file explorer, like ES File Explorer to locate the file and execute it. That will install it. Then from the Amazon UI, go to "Apps" and tap the ADW icon.
It should work fine. As I mentioned earlier, the only limitation is that tapping the "home" softkey brings up the default Amazon UI. But the ADW icon appears in the carousel so tapping on that icon brings the launcher back.
It's a very nice and safe way to use an alternative launcher.

Hm! Thanks for the correction. I had no idea that was true. Someone should find out why that happens and get something set up so people can easily do that for their kindle in case they aren't sure about rooting their device. Even when we get new OSs and such, I think people may want to keep the kindle OS and still like a familiar look of an android OS. Or maybe we can request ADW find out so it still works with future updates and whatnot? NO other launcher works this way that you've tried? Only ADW?

For books, that's up to you. I never looked into, nor used, ebooks of any sort, kind, or make.I used moon reader because I could just browse to where I had my kindle books (co-worker kindly gave me a bunch, so I had a nice little collection) and it works from there. I'd say it's an alright reader, but you will most likely have to get a reader you like that can open any kind of file. I'm just not to knowledgeable for that, but moonreader does work. For any Kindle books you can get the kindle app from the PlayStore and use your books from there.
For the second part, here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051270
To sum it up, I'll paste what the guide says:
To change the lockscreen we need a few apk from the android market.
A. No Lock
B. Rom toolbox
C. Your favorite lookscreen ( I use Picture Password a copy of Windos 8 lockscreen)
Simply install Rom Toolbox, No lock, and lockscreen form market.
Open Rom toolbox and select App Manager find No Lock from the list and long press it. A menu will pop up, select "Convert to system app". Reboot device ( To skip this step you can also download No Lock apk from internet and place it on system/app)
Open No lock and hit enable, now you have no stock lockscreen, feel free to install your favorite lockscreen
*Note from myself:
In following the guide, go locker was being a butt to me. I then remembered ages ago that I bought widgetlocker, and that it would have exactly what I wanted. Now, right now, WidgetLocker IS a system app on my kindle. It works. I am not sure if this is needed, as it is not listed in the guide, but if you try the lockscreen and it doesn't work, you may need to make it a system app, I just wish I could remember WHY I did it.
Good luck!

ahh ok what you need to do is instead of ..\..\root do
Code:
cd C:\root
assuming you saved it to a file directly on your c drive and called it root
do the same when it asks you to do ..\..\qemuroot exept put cd C:\qemuroot....these are basic commands... You may consider reading up on windows and xda commands to help you along the way if you run into issues
