Ripper Rom Text Message Problem - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post but I flashed the Ripper Rom with Aroma options.
Since then I have a strange text message problem. Basically I can receive messages fine, but any message from anyone starts a new message chain. I'll be texting someone several times over the course of 30 minutes and every message I receive starts a new message thread/chain instead of putting it in an existing text message thread with my response.
I hope that makes sense.
Does anyone have any idea of what could be the issue?
Oh and this happens on the default message app and on messenger metro.
Thanks

I had that problem 2 a while a go. Dont remember wich rom and version though... U should ask in the RipperRom forum, they probably know how to fix it... Until then u can try selecting another sms app in aroma options (if there is one...) or download a sms app from market...

Do you know how you fixed your problem?
I tried posting there originally but I can't post in the development section until I have 10 posts and I don't want to spam a load of topics just to get access there, as I figured people really wouldn't appreciate that!

Actually i dont know what they did... Its probebly the sms app that needs 2 be fixed. Maybe u must wait 4 a new version or try some other roms. I use pandoriam and dont have that problem. U could try search the forum 4 a fixed sms app and flash it through cwm. Good luck

I've just tried GoSMS and it's working fine there, so I'm wondering if my favoured messaging app just needs a fresh install or if it's a problem that would require an update or a rom to finish.
I'm not a huge fan of GoSMS so I'm still hoping to be able to fix the issue but in the meantime until someone else pitches in or I figure it out it will do.
Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.

I think you may be using the AOSP styled mms app. It seems to be a little buggy that mms and can cause that to happen, so I was thinking of removing it next update. It doesn't happen with the stock mms app but just the modded aosp styled

I don't know if it is the same but my gf had this problem on Slim JB on i9000 she fixed it by changing the time and date settings of all things!
I think she unchecked 'let network automatically select date and time' and set it manually.
Maybe try that and play around with date and time settings.
It sounds random but it might work

Problem with 1.6 ROMs

Hi, as of lately for some reason, I had 4.2.3.1 on my phone the other day and out of no where whenever I would receive text, I would get two notifications one from my SMS app (Handcent) and the other is from the default SMS app.
Now I decided to run dwangs v1.11, and I'm still getting the same issue.
-I'm using a theme, as of now its djengizz 2.0
-I have the handcent SMS app(and yes I did disable the notifications in the default SMS)
-And of course I'm running the 1.6 ROM (Dwangs v1.11)
Is anybody having this same problem? If so, how do you fix it? Some please respond
P.S. I don't have this problem on any Hero ROMs.
im having this problem myself and ive only seen one other post besides my own inquiry into the problem and this thread. no answers as of yet, hopefully it will be fixed in the next cyan build. until then i just try to ignore it >_<
maybe turn off the notification for the anrdoid sms?
people really need to read :\

Sprint hero sends but won't receive texts?

I have a rooted sprint hero running aosp mod (latest stable, not gingerbread - don't remember the version number). Up until Sunday everything was working fine. Sunday evening I noticed that I hadn't gotten any texts all day (highly unusual). Started to text my fiancée, didn't recieve a response. Called her a couple hours later, she said she'd recieved them and replied. I figured it was a sprint issue and would pass by the next day. Next day, still nothing. Stood next to a friend of mine, had him text me, nothing. Sent him a text and he received it almost instantly. As of today I still can't recieve texts, though everything else works just fine. Is this a simple software issue on my end that can be fixed by reflashing my rom? Or is it something more serious that I need to see a sprinnt Rep for? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I saw a guy have this issue with cyanogenmod. He ended up flashing a different rom and all his texts came through at once then. He was using the nightly releases, so I think he just waited until the next nightly came out. You might should just reflash and see if that helps.
This is a common issue. Usually it is due to deleting the stock messaging app because you have handcent or chomp, but those apps pull the info from the stock sms app, so if you deleted it, reinstall it. The other cause is just a known bug in froyo, and though I have never had the issue, many many others have been able to fix it by going into recovery, nandroiding your current setup, wipe EVERYTHING, flash a sense rom, go into settings and update your profile and PRL, then open texts up (you should get a bunch), then going back into recovery, wipe everything again, and restore your nand. Hope this fixes it, good luck.
Sounds good, I'll give it a shot when I get off work. Does it matter what sense rom I flash? More specifically, can I just use an ruu from HTC.com or will I lose my root?

RUU takes longer. also, dpending on how you rooted you will probably lose root. just run ANY sense based rom (custom too), fresh,NFX,liquid, whatever, it'll only take like 5-10 minutes. Also, just a hint, make a nand of the sense rom before you go back to your current one, that way you can update your profile/PRL whenever you want. I keep a sense NFX rom in my nand folder for just that.
Or you can wait till I release an updated dualboot script and have both easily accessible. Should be released this week.
Oh, and like some others said, its a problem with froyo and some phones. You might look in the froyo sense thread and try the fix listed in the first post.

You're awesome. Followed your advice, worked perfectly.
However, I'm now having a separate issue (I assume). All physical keys work fine, with the exception of my home key which does absolutely nothing once the phone boots. Is this a related issue? Did I screw up somewhere along the line?

I have heard of this as well. Can't remember the fix, but it sounds rom related. The home key action is in /system/usr/keylayout/heroc-keypad.kl you can also check there? You could try to re-restore the nand again - wipe ALL first. Also, I know most launchers have home key options, make sure those settings look normal. Also maybe go into your launcher app in settings/apps/manage apps and clear the defaults for it, then see if home does anything. IF that doesn't work search for member "appleflap" on xda, he made a hardkey remapper that you can fix/change the function of the home key.
Reflashed the current nand to no avail. Flashed a clean install of aosp, works fine. I can deal with the loss of my settings, I suppose.
Thanks for all of your help, bud.

I am actually having a similar issue, but I am periodically not able to send texts. Receive just fine, but some texts fail over and over.
I am running CM 6.1 stable, and using the default text app. Anyone had this issue?
Sorry about the bump, but I did not feel it necessary to create a new thread after I found this one.
Edit: I totally also recognize this could be something to do with the sprint network as well

[Q] Not receiving SMS

Hey guys, i have a pretty serious problem with SMS messaging. It seems like my Milestone refuses to receive SMS messages. I've been using FroyoMOD and now i have Cyanogen 7 RC3 from kabaldan. With both of them i've experienced this issue. And it's always the same.. after like a month or so from when i flash the ROM..it's happening again. It's really annoying and people are yelling at me for ignoring them So, if anybody knows what's the deal or has experienced the same issue.. i'll be more than glad if you had any suggestions. For now i pretty much think it might be something like kernel-related or whatever.. i don't really know
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.
install advanced task killer, open the sms app, go to advance task killer and uncheck the sms app...with this setting you can receive sms...
forgot to mention that i use handcent or chomp sms..not the stock app. that also might be the problem. i tried rebooting and i don't think i have any task killer that kills my sms app. unless the task killer is integrated w/ the ROM. Anyway, gonna try this.
Got the same problem here and it's driving me crazy.
I've taken a look at the log and you can clearly see the sms arriving, because android is starting the sms app. But it get's killed before it can safe the sms. I believe it's due to a memory shortage. I've tried several different memory management settings and also tried to fix the sms app in memory by adjusting the oom_adj value (see thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012330)
But nothing realy helped for long. I still loose many SMS also Whatsapp mostly does not notify me about new messages. Push mail works most of the times. Gtalk notifications I'd say work only in 50% of all cases. I'll probably downgrade to CM6. The milestone simply has not enough memory for Gingerbread.
Is your data memory low?
there is a bug when getting lower than ~20mb of free memory,
(last time I ran in that problem was in 2.1, so i'm not sure if releavent to 2.2 and up)
Yes, it's quite low and can possibly be below 20mb at some times. When I look at it it's usually around 30 Mb. I can get more free memory by adjusting the memory manager settings, but that only means it kills background apps even more agressively, or so I understand it.

Handcent seems impossible to run even on stock telus froyo http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12675946&postcount=13
I'm going to reinstall it and test with minfree values of 6, 8, 26, 16, 16, 32.
Hancent is always in the 4th or 5th slot so maybe that will work.
well i just flashed latest MIUI, sent sms to my number and received it.. i think i had SuperCharged minfree from you zeppelinrox. well i guess it's always the same: i flash new ROM, it works and after some time it stops. what the hell.. the thing is i never used stock messaging app, that might be the cause.
I use supercharge script with aggressive 2...moreover i use advance task killer...i didn't lose any sms...before that sometimes I didnt receive any sms...you have to unselect your app for sms(stock one, handcent, chompsms)...I use stock sms app and everything is working...
Its seems you'be got me wrong, I mean applications data memory, not device ram.

You're right. I got you wrong. I've got plenty of application memory. I've had low applications data memory a few month ago and it took me days to realize taht this causes the phone not to receive any sms. But as soon as you free up memory all SMS seem to be coming through.

by the way, What do you mean by "I've taken a look at the log"?
by the way, just got another problem... seems like everytime i flash MIUI ROM (and maybe any other ROM, idk) and recover my messages from backup with SMS Backup & Restore, the phone sends out by itself like 5 messages always to the same people. It happened like 3 times so far.. and it's pretty much possible that i flashed it 3 times.. but i think that might be more like the sms backup-related issue. The 5 msgs seem to have something like hasn't-been-sent-yet flag or whatever.. seriously, i just feel like throwing the phone out the window right now.
Maybe it's application issue?
I've been using "SMS Backup+" for long awhile (probably since november when I first flashed MIUI)
and never ran into problem.

Is used the Debuger from the Android SDK. When you connect your phone to the computer you can log almost everything with it in realtime.
Btw. I've just migrated to MIUI to try if SMS arrive here more reliably. But I'm not yet sure I like the user interface. It's rather different from CM7.

You need to install the Android SDK from Google. Since you know adb I guess you allready have it. In the SDK there's a file called ddms.bat. That starts the debugger.
Same stuff here...
I´ve had similar issues relating the sms thingy. I´m going to try that app killer thing to see how it goes.
You may view my post here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112009
Hope someone figures out a way out of this.
Thanks.

well i have an observation. after i stopped using all sms backup apps, the problem is gone. and by sms backup app i mean those that backup to gmail, not to sdcard. if you have an app that checks for new sms's and automatically backes them up, then get rid of it.. if you need an one time backup, use SMS Backup & Restore.
like i said, getting rid of automatic sms backup apps did the trick for me.

[Q] Getting rid of proximity sensor VIBRATE

Hey there,
I got a milestone running the latest CM7, since around 2 versions ago (~2 weeks) the proximity sensor vibrate when turning the phone on/off during calls.
This is freaking horrible as i have black hair and the sensor is constantly on/off.
basically, i can't the phone as a phone :] before i start downgrading and searching which version is still ok,
anyone knows if this can be fixed via an option/script/etc ?
(i already saw that this is happening to more people, just didn't see a solution yet)
Thank you
There should an option to do it. Did you check the settings in phone?
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
of course i did
Even disabling all the haptic features didn't solve it.
Its something the latest builds inserted without an option (or at least i don't know where it is)
anyone else?

the profile has a "application group" section .. but that to doesnt have dialer...
if the users in this thread are still active .. can you given the detailed steps ? looks like i am searching at the wrong place
Hey,
This is a very very old thread and it happened on CM7, if your using the new CMs it looks different (and i'm not sure the problem still exist...).
In general (if I remember correctly) I just deleted all the stuff I had in the profiles until it worked (I did it for the phone profile, you can experiment).
If your using new CM, I suggest posting in the CM help thread for your device here on XDA

MIUI Rom and whatsapp contacts bug

Hello there
I've just installed miui rom and I really like it the only problem is
Whatsapp is unable to find any of my contacts don't know why !!
Although it appears just fine in other apps ..
I wish there is a fix for this thing cause really like miui look and u also can't live without whatsapp :"(

I would try fixing permissions from ROM manager.
Unfortunately that didn't help :"(

Ok well in that case I would try wiping cache and data from whatsapp then if that doesn't work try uninstalling/reinstalling it.
Already done it .. no luck
Is it just me or every body have the same thing !

Not everybody but yes it is a very common issue. Now sorry but I guess there is nothing to do unless you want to maybe try a clean install but I'm not even sure that is going to fix it.
i have the same problem with MIUI on Milestone. I found the only way to solve for my device is to add international code before normal phone numbers for the contacts. It sucks!!! Finally revert to stock rom!!
have the exact same problem . please someone comeup with fixing the bug. i want to use the miui rom and whatsapp.
I fixed it by tagging all the contacts to "my contacts " label .. and it worked
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
That actually did the trick. Thanx!
I had my contacts sorted in groups as well; deleting it all from the common my contacts-folder. A logical decision because this way there wouldn't be duplicates in my Gmail Contacts.
U know... I googled this but no solutions to be found. Of course I had to check with XDA first. Maybe Google should scan XDA a lot more often, 'cause solutions are always here
