Updated: Seidio Surface/Best Buy Pt Case Review, Pics and Video on how to remove - Galaxy Note II Accessories

I purchased my Best Buy Pt case after seeing that it was the same as the Seidio Surface case but cheaper. My reason for buying it was that I want to be able to carry my Note 2 on my belt with a holster. My first impressions of the case were great. It slides on and locks on easily. The phone is very secure in the holster and the holsters clip is very sturdy.
EDIT: This method does work, it took a lot of effort and trying but it finally came off so I made an updated video with how to take it off. Thanks to sleebus.jones for posting it which made me try it again after trying many times before.
sleebus.jones said:
It's really easy to take off, if you follow this little tip.
When you want to take off the case, squeeze on the sides on the part of the case that doesn't have that half-moon thumb grip.(the upper part) With your other hand hold with thumb and middle fingers and push on the half moon with your index finger. Pull and it should come right apart. If it doesn't, push slightly then pull (all the time while squeezing on the top part of the case.)
Saw this trick in another thread, works so good you won't believe it!

I know exactly what you mean. I tried this case on my phone in a BB store (associate talked me into it). It went on very easily, but it was almost impossible to get off. I thought we were going to destroy my phone getting the case off. Crazy thing is that I bought it anyway (because of the price). Hopefully I won't have to take it off very often!

Yea

Little tip, try it on with your headphone. Make sure it didn't block you from making a full connection. Main reason I returned mine was because I couldn't and every movement would cause it to pop off.

I did that in the video I posted. Doesn't work for me.
Edit: after trying some more I was finally able to get it off with this method but it took a lot of effort. Once I did it once I put it back together and then tried to do it again and it was really hard again but it seems that after a couple of times it gets a little bit easier. I updated the main post with your quote and also made a video on how to remove it. Thanks!

Quick little update. It was bugging me how loose the belt clip was on my belt so I made a simple quick fix with little rubber sticky strips that came with my air conditioners. Now it doesnt move back and forth on my belt.

I just got this case today and it's pretty good. I like that it's thin so the phone doesn't look that huge on the hip..I will be using the fix for the belt (great idea) but other than that it works great.

Can someone post a part number? My best buys don't seem to have any. .Thanks

[Review] Seidio Active Case

Today before lunch, I got in the Seidio Active case with front cover/kickstand. It's much like the Kindle Fire case I had. So I am glad that I now have it protecting my N7.
As you can see it is the black version. All the cutouts are there EXCEPT for the POGO Pins. But I see it as if you are going to use the POGO pins, you HAVE to remove the case to use a POGO device, so I am am ok with covering it up at this time.
The case comes in three parts, the rubber polymer, hard exterior skeleton, and the mounting cover. The rubber does attract dust especially when brand new out of the box lol, but after a while, the dust and debris will get easier to wipe off with your hand. The front cover can be slipped on the back of the case for convenience and IMO added protection. And there is no magnets to speak of. Which is ok, IMO, I'll just use my volume rockers to turn it on, which I do anyway.
If you have any Seidio products on any of your devices, this does not disappoint. All the cutouts are there and the front camera is clear from the rubber exterior as well. Without the front cover, the Nexus 7 is comfy in my hand and i can see gaming on this more and more...if my 4 year old is not hogging it up lol....
To sum it up, the case is what I expected from Seidio and the quality of their cases. I have been a repeat customer for years and I forsee that I may be again when I get my next device, whatever that may be.
Any questions please ask! Here are the pics starting with unboxing without the N7 installed....enjoy!
Posting the pics, I came to the realization that my desk is mighty dusty! I apologize for that in advance ROFL
Also forgot to give the official link, my bad...http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BD2-CSK3ASN7-BK

Thanks for the review.. thinking about picking up one of these too. Is it bulky? Does it add alot of thickness/weight?

I answered those generally in the other Seidio thread but forgot to post the question and answers here, so here it goes:
1. Is it bulky?
Ans: No more bulkier than my Treegloo case. It actually feels thinner than the treegloo and Kindle Fire version IMO, that's without the front cover on the back :cyclops:.
2. Does it add to the thickness/weight?
Ans: It does seem a bit heavier. I think it has to do with the skeleton and rubber combo. But it feels comfortable in the hand because of the rubber exterior IMO. Is it thick? See answer one lol...well if you are coming from a naked N7 then this would be a major step but also major protection IMO.
Hope that helps a bit! :fingers-crossed:

I took some pics showing the difference in thickness (with measurements) with the case and cover part way down this page, also near the bottom I posted the weight of the bare 7, with case and with case/cover.

Is it me, or the case is somewhat "curvy"? Especially in you last picture, it looks like the rubber doesn't make straight lines around the screen.

Hmm...looks the same doesn't it? LOL. In the pics I see what you are saying but when looking at it, it looks ok to me lol.
Having a closer look, it looks like there's some barrel distortion with your camera, as even the screen itself isn't fully square. The case is probably fine (and the lines do look smoother in the more recent picture).
Can you use the harder protective back to cover the front of the screen?

Got mine and am not disappointed in the least. Pretty much great in every way. Highly recommended.
I am interested in this case as well. Could someone get a pic of the case and tab side by side laying flat on a desk/table? I'm trying to get a feel for how much thicker it ends up being with the top on it. Thanks

Looking for case

I have a case with a weird issue. Its grabbing my nexus 7 so tight that its squeezing the power button internally or something so screen goes off immediately after unlocking. It doesn't happen at all without case on. Gonna return it to amazon and grab a new one since I've been super clumsy lately and don't want to break my new toy. Any suggestions? Edit screen turning on and off appears to have something to do with light any ideas what it might be?

What kind of case is it? Many cases have a magnet in the lid, that should shut down the screen when the lid is put over the screen.
Some cheap cases also seem to have a bit too powerful magnet, so even if the lid is turned behind the screen, nexus 7 still detects it and shuts down the screen.
Does your case have a magnet?

Sorry, I didn't see this at first.
The Nexus 7 has a wake/sleep sensor, which is activated by the presence/absence of a magnet. As noted in the last post, if your case is compatible with the sensor, then when you open the case's cover, the N7 wakes up. When you close the cover, it will go to sleep.
(I wish I would go to sleep that easily!)

ah weird thought it had something to do with the lighting. then why was i able to duplicate the result by moving the camera around the ceiling fan light bulb? couldn't do it without the case on though so that has to be part of the cause. anyway i can't see a magnet but doesn't mean it's not embedded in there. this is the case by the way http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Slim-fit...=1356622879&sr=8-1&keywords=moko+nexus+7+case
Alot of those cheaper cases use magnets that are too strong and flipping the lid over turns off the screen from the back. I owned a Blurex case just like that one and I liked it alot actually. Because of the design, I can't imagine it has anything to do with the power button.
Play with the lid, as I suspect that is your problem. You may be able to put a piece of tin-foil behind the N7 so the magnet's effect is tainted from behind. That or pick up a new case. I really liked that style of case as it felt very protected. I eventually moved to the Poetic slim case (iPad style) but the quality was disturbing. After a few weeks the plastic started to buckle and tear.
I ended up with a Portenzo Book Case that I like very much. It has a great feel to it, doesn't add bulk, and looks very nice. Overall it is holding up very well. The tablet is held in by 2 3M sticky pads. The top, bottom, and button-sides are exposed. The magnets were adjusted during initial releases and working perfectly.

Quick look at the Orange Flip Case

Samsung was giving out Flip Cases for the Galaxy Note II and the SIII at CES 2013 show in Las Vegas. I decided to go orange. Didn't think I would like the orange color after getting it, as the day went by I really like the orange color. Here is a quick video of the flip case.
looks great! I'll take it if you want to off load it

Thanks for the review. I ordered the orange one when Samsung was having the free flip case promotion and I was wondering what it would actually look like. A co-worker has the light blue one and that one was really pretty too.
So sad watching the video and seeing the crack on the screen. Such a bummer.
I tried an orange case but found myself growing breasts so I returned it.

:crying: Yes, first week of having the G'Note II it slipped out of my hand and landed on the corner and weird part was it didn't crack on the spot. The corner was scratched up and later I went to use the phone and the crack showed up. More likely it put pressure on the corner and cracked afterwards. I'm going to replace the whole screen and LCD, but will wait for the price to come down from $300.00 for the parts.
The orange color reminds me of the Dodge Charger car.

Hey guys.
For those of us who prefer the OEM flip case but want some drop protection, consider buying a cheap lariat and feeding it through the speaker hole on the back. Wear the lariat around your wrist when using the phone and if you drop it the phone never hits the ground.
The lariat also helps you to pull it our of your pocket if you are wearing tighter jeans.

I have the orange as well. I got it for 50% for registering my phone via Facebook. The orange is very odd. It's almost peach in bright lights. I find that the flip cover gets in the way most of the time. It is nice though. If you use a car mount.... get ready to hate the cover.

I wouldn't recommend you keep it on like that, I did that for awhile and eventually the piece started to bend. Instead feed it through the hole and tape the lanyard to the inside of the back cover, You won't see the tape when the cover is closed . Don't put too much though or the cover won't close. It's kept my phone from hitting the ground thus far. This was the lanyard I used http://www.ebay.com/itm/4X-NEW-T-MO...368729?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item336ab1ca99

It is very loose so watch out with that and the volume button isn't really right on it's place when you put it in the case so watch out with that and don't damage it .
I thought the best solution was to put a peace out of it like I posted.

Yes, I did see the picture you posted, I was thinking about using the dremel and taking out part of it as you did.
I'm really surprised it's loose on the case, I didn't expect a few fractions of a millimeter to make a difference between the Z and Z2!
So It's easy to drop out of case?

Yes it is really loose and if you accidentally flip it a little bit and the downside where it is laying on doesn't hold it it can flip out off it, if you are the only one that uses the tablet then no problem. But also it is a little bit annoying because it slides also to the right and left because it is loose.
I have 2 kids and one wife in house, sometimes the kids brings it to me and my wife when see cleans around see picks it up so I could not take the change to leave it a little bit loose ).
But I like the case in general, the case for tablet Z2 is definitely a nice upgrade but I will wait for it if I can buy for around €15,-

Thanks so much for the information!!!
I'll take all this information into consideration while handling the tablet.
I just might sell covers on eBay if I find them uncomfortable to deal with.
Arrived really good fit
Hello,
Just wanted to report that the cover arrived today.
As indicated by user whatwhatster one of the plastic tabs holding the tablet needs to be shaved down.
However I didn't find the case to be loose, maybe because I only shaved away the smallest portion possible as to not obstruct the volume control, I also left in place the portion that didn't make contact with the volume control underneath it.
I will take some pictures of the case and upload, and in a few days with the tablet in it, I'm waiting for the Skinomi back and front protector to cure, I have many bubbles specially on the back side, and the plastic skin needs to breathe in order to evaporate the water bubules.
Big thanks to whatwhatster for sharing his experience!!!

You know, now that I think about it could be that the Skinomi on the back of the tablet is giving it much more grip than without it.
This might be another reason why is not loose.
Saddly to say, I didn't test without it.

You know, now that I think about it could be that the Skinomi on the back of the tablet is giving it much more grip than without it.
This might be another reason why is not loose.
Saddly to say, I didn't test without it.

Thanks for the pics, now you mention it it could be the Skinomi I know these are thick material in general so you got a advance out of that .

Stylus Stuck, but the right way

I pressed the stylus and it didn't click. I pressed it harder and it sunk into the device...
Any ideas what might have happens or how I get it back out?
When I get home, I'll try and post a picture.
I had the same issue about 3 weeks ago. I tried several ways to attempt to pry it out but was afraid of damaging the phone. I took it to the local Sprint store and they swapped me out for a new device. They did not even attempt to repair it but went right to the back and pulled a new one out of the box.
How about this - put a drop of super glue on the end of a strong string. Touch the end of the string to the end of the pen. When it's dry - pull!??
Mines imported to the UK, so unlikely to get it swapped
Yeah, I'm wondering about something sticky to pull it out.
Is it easy to get a replacement from eBay? I've also thought about just sticking a pin in it and trying to pull. Maybe drilling a small hole in the stylus to hook something in and pull. Then just replace the stylus.
Mine is stuck because I work outside and it got dust in it so the spring will not work. The only way for me to get it out is to bang it and drop it on the corner of the phone on the carpet a couple times. (obviously with a case) Have you tried this?
If it helps, this is what it looks like -

So drop it onto the corner the stylus is in? I'll put a case on in a moment and try, thanks.
**EDIT** That worked! Thanks. Likewise, it seems the spring isn't working for some reason. I might try some lubricant, otherwise I'll order a replacement.

The bottom left corner is what I used. This could work for you if it is a spring problem in the spen but if it is actually stuck in the phone then I doubt that it would work
Sorry, I edited in while you replied. Thanks, it worked!

If you get the spring to work tell me what you did so I can try. Im gettiing tired of dropping my phone to get the s pen out
Yeah, I don't fancy it myself either. I've sprayed some WD40 on it, but it doesn't seem to have helped. Looking to get the eBay seller to cover the cost of a new one, otherwise I'll just order a replacement. Looks like about $36 to ship to the UK. (About £25 for me)
UPDATE: I sprayed the end of the stylus with WD40, but not much seemed to change. I've been using a different phone for a day, come back to the Note 5 and the WD40 must have soaked in or something as it's almost as good as new.
I've done the same again, sprayed it and left it overnight and you wouldn't know there had been an issue now.

I know this device doesn't really have much metal in it, but please be careful of using wd40. It actually causes metals to rust once it's done doing its job. It's best to use brake cleaner or silicone lubricant.

Hi, thanks for the tip. I've only sprayed it on the stylus, but I guess it could corrode the spring inside?
Anyway, it's working for now at least!
Hopefully nothing else goes wrong with it. Cheers.
Well, it's been stolen now anyway! New one on the way...
How'd you lose it?
Sorry to hear that man.
Flat was burgled. Security has been stepped up and the new one arrives tomorrow!
Anyone out there find threads on this issue, or know a better solution?
This is my same issue.
Spring does not eject stylus, have to bang phone downwards.
