Stylus Stuck, but the right way - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I pressed the stylus and it didn't click. I pressed it harder and it sunk into the device...
Any ideas what might have happens or how I get it back out?
When I get home, I'll try and post a picture.

I had the same issue about 3 weeks ago. I tried several ways to attempt to pry it out but was afraid of damaging the phone. I took it to the local Sprint store and they swapped me out for a new device. They did not even attempt to repair it but went right to the back and pulled a new one out of the box.

How about this - put a drop of super glue on the end of a strong string. Touch the end of the string to the end of the pen. When it's dry - pull!??

Mines imported to the UK, so unlikely to get it swapped
Yeah, I'm wondering about something sticky to pull it out.
Is it easy to get a replacement from eBay? I've also thought about just sticking a pin in it and trying to pull. Maybe drilling a small hole in the stylus to hook something in and pull. Then just replace the stylus.

Mine is stuck because I work outside and it got dust in it so the spring will not work. The only way for me to get it out is to bang it and drop it on the corner of the phone on the carpet a couple times. (obviously with a case) Have you tried this?

If it helps, this is what it looks like -

So drop it onto the corner the stylus is in? I'll put a case on in a moment and try, thanks.
**EDIT** That worked! Thanks. Likewise, it seems the spring isn't working for some reason. I might try some lubricant, otherwise I'll order a replacement.

The bottom left corner is what I used. This could work for you if it is a spring problem in the spen but if it is actually stuck in the phone then I doubt that it would work

Sorry, I edited in while you replied. Thanks, it worked!

If you get the spring to work tell me what you did so I can try. Im gettiing tired of dropping my phone to get the s pen out

Yeah, I don't fancy it myself either. I've sprayed some WD40 on it, but it doesn't seem to have helped. Looking to get the eBay seller to cover the cost of a new one, otherwise I'll just order a replacement. Looks like about $36 to ship to the UK. (About £25 for me)

UPDATE: I sprayed the end of the stylus with WD40, but not much seemed to change. I've been using a different phone for a day, come back to the Note 5 and the WD40 must have soaked in or something as it's almost as good as new.
I've done the same again, sprayed it and left it overnight and you wouldn't know there had been an issue now.

I know this device doesn't really have much metal in it, but please be careful of using wd40. It actually causes metals to rust once it's done doing its job. It's best to use brake cleaner or silicone lubricant.

Hi, thanks for the tip. I've only sprayed it on the stylus, but I guess it could corrode the spring inside?
Anyway, it's working for now at least!

Hopefully nothing else goes wrong with it. Cheers.

Well, it's been stolen now anyway! New one on the way...

How'd you lose it?
Sorry to hear that man.

Flat was burgled. Security has been stepped up and the new one arrives tomorrow!

Anyone out there find threads on this issue, or know a better solution?
This is my same issue.
Spring does not eject stylus, have to bang phone downwards.

I Got a white housing off ebay for my girlfriend 32A.
Here's the issue. I can't put the screws back on the new case, the threaded sleeves are not present and I doesn't look like I can remove them from the old housing.
Anyone else had this issue, any solutions, other then hot glue haha ?

You can take them out, but it's unbeleivably difficult. I would just buy from this site: http://cnn.cn/shop/tmobile-white-housing-p-6164.html
Although it's more expensive, it'll save you the hassle. There are also housings which have those golden rings there but your screws won't fit it lol. i've gone through this haha
How can you remove them ? Pull out ? or you have to break the plastic around it and then it won't fit in the holes ?
same problem here took apart my mytouch. and now stuck. I am going to melt the old housing and attempt to pop the screwholes (gold threads) out of the older housing. and pop them in. if not i guess gorilla glue -_-
well ive heard some ppl lighting the end of something like I dunno, a nail and somehow pull it out. (I dont know at all to be honest) I've tried, and it sticks RIDICULOUSLY HARD. From my experience, I would suggest you not bother with it and get a refund or something, or complain and say it doesnt have enough w/e for u to put it on
lol solder the housing together?

you do know if your faceplate locks in to the middle portion, you can just leave it like that. unfortunately My Mytouch (32b) does not have any screws on it. doesnt affect functionality. fortunately the faceplate (32b) fits the stock middle portion. its tight, but locks in accurately with out having to use screws. also the adhesive left behind by the stock faceplate was strong enough to glue in the new faceplate. I got lucky. I tried prying off the new faceplate after installation (in an attempt to fix my previously damaged vibration motor and the LED) it wouldnt budge so I left it alone. your best bet is to use adhesive (glue) and make sure it does not dry, or drip into any circuits or the screen itself. dont use glue if the faceplate snugs in tight, just put a plastic shield/case over it so even if you accidentally drop it, the faceplate wont come off. good luck.
Thanks for the advice but I want it OEM style (with screws) or it will just stay black original housing.
Not having the screws makes the phone look a bit loose and bleh. Also, if they dont include the gold rings or w/e on your faceplate, they probaly didn't include anything else which would mean your LED won't show in the front and the speakerhole /earpiece or w/e its caled i forget! Will look weird. I suggest you try the one I showed you or like you said, stick with the original housing. That's probably the best!
maybe you bought a 32b housing personally mines fine, and i fixed my led lol. forgot to put the clear plastic. anyway my phone is ok w out screws. just have to be careful not to drop it on a hard surface.

The led stuff and speaker hole thing it's all good, you can easily remove it from the original housing, i'm waiting on the seller to see what he has to say. I guess i'll just take my money back and leave as it is.

Invisible Shield

Anybody have an invisible shield installed on their Droid 3? I just got mine in the mail today and i tried putting it on but the corners on the back keep popping up...I really dont want to pull it up and try to reinstall because I already ran out of the solution they gave me and had to use some leftover from my Touch Pro2's install kit. Any advice is helpful Thanks
Yes I had the same problem. I think I fixed it by starting at one corner of the phone, holding it down for a few seconds and slowly moving all over the outer edge. There are a few spots that curl up but it looks good.
It sucks, I think it took me an hour to get it how I felt comfortable it would not peel off.
Just keep working at it. It feels like they rushed production and it does not fit the phone the correct way.
Sent from my DROID3
yeah for all my other phones the corners were cut so the side flap folded down and the top flap had an extra edge so u could fold it up and wrap the extra peice around the corner. it looks like this one the corners are just rounded...i tried the 'palming' method and it's working but still peels up after a while. I'm trying to be patient but it's still rather annoying.
If you ran out of the solution you can just fill it up with water, the manual says up to 3 times or so. Its just soap and water.

Wow, that's crazy haha. I guess I should practice reading the manuals more, after doing it so many times I just take out the plastic and start going to work. This was the first time i got a refillable bottle though, maybe it's something new they do?
On another note...
As an update, i ended up taking it to a zagg kiosk at the mall and i must say, I wish i had done that to begin with. I really didn't see how their installation could be so amazing but it was FLAWLESS...I kind of wish I had stayed and watched her do it instead of walking around the mall. Maybe I could have learned her secrets so I could make it look that good myself next time around haha.
These pics were taken within 5 minutes of leaving the mall. No bubbles at all, and all corners stayed down.

It cost $10 for the install but i think it was worth it. If it ever peels i can go get it replaced for free.
I was thinking about getting one of the invisible shields, but they seemed a bit expensive, and with a $10 applying fee (I doubt I'll be able to get it on) that's a lot for a protective film. Just wondering if other people think they're worth the price.
I think it's definitely worth the price IF you use your phone like me. I refuse to put it in a hard case and always keep in in my pocket, so it basically eliminates scratches and prevents drops because it adds a better grip/feel to the phone. Especially when taking it out of my pocket there's a chance of it slipping out of my fingers so the full body works for me. Even if you do use a case, though, the screen protector is probably a good idea. It's the best one but since it's thicker some people don't like it. I got used to it on my Touch Pro and since then i've never noticed it being hard to slide my finger on the screen. It's all up to preference basically, but there's a reason why you get multiple protectors with the cheaper versions vs. 1 with invisible shield. It just works.
Also search online for online coupons, i used Zagg20 to get a 20% discount, so all together with the install it was a little over $30. Either way you get a lifetime warranty, but if you don't get it installed by them you have to remove, ship, and reinstall the new invisible shield yourself (they reimburse for shipping) and I didn't want to struggle with the back again.

Updated: Seidio Surface/Best Buy Pt Case Review, Pics and Video on how to remove

I purchased my Best Buy Pt case after seeing that it was the same as the Seidio Surface case but cheaper. My reason for buying it was that I want to be able to carry my Note 2 on my belt with a holster. My first impressions of the case were great. It slides on and locks on easily. The phone is very secure in the holster and the holsters clip is very sturdy.
EDIT: This method does work, it took a lot of effort and trying but it finally came off so I made an updated video with how to take it off. Thanks to sleebus.jones for posting it which made me try it again after trying many times before.
sleebus.jones said:

When you want to take off the case, squeeze on the sides on the part of the case that doesn't have that half-moon thumb grip.(the upper part) With your other hand hold with thumb and middle fingers and push on the half moon with your index finger. Pull and it should come right apart. If it doesn't, push slightly then pull (all the time while squeezing on the top part of the case.)

I know exactly what you mean. I tried this case on my phone in a BB store (associate talked me into it). It went on very easily, but it was almost impossible to get off. I thought we were going to destroy my phone getting the case off. Crazy thing is that I bought it anyway (because of the price). Hopefully I won't have to take it off very often!

Yea
Little tip, try it on with your headphone. Make sure it didn't block you from making a full connection. Main reason I returned mine was because I couldn't and every movement would cause it to pop off.

I did that in the video I posted. Doesn't work for me.
Edit: after trying some more I was finally able to get it off with this method but it took a lot of effort. Once I did it once I put it back together and then tried to do it again and it was really hard again but it seems that after a couple of times it gets a little bit easier. I updated the main post with your quote and also made a video on how to remove it. Thanks!
Quick little update. It was bugging me how loose the belt clip was on my belt so I made a simple quick fix with little rubber sticky strips that came with my air conditioners. Now it doesnt move back and forth on my belt.

HTC SIM tray

Friends and Moderators,
I got this ugly thing yesterday and feel like hell. I tried removing my SIM card yesterday to check for data service in my other SIM but it didn't came out. I tried quite hard till my fingers started paining. I tried with a paper clip. My SIM is working fine without any issues but next month I will be travelling to India and hence will be required to change my SIM. I read about this a lot and seems like there is no repair for HTC ONE. Can you guys please guide me over this :crying::crying::crying:
Did anything break? And if something did that means you're not doing it right.

Not sure what the heck you were doing with the paper clip but all it takes is a firm press and the tray will pop out. If you broke it, I doubt HTC is going to cover it under warranty.

I also know that "All it takes is a firm press". I pressed it hard only because it was not popping out.
Wouldn't a paper clip be too thick for the hole? I always use a pin.
From what I remember you simply put the simcard in the tray right, no clicking... no nothing. Perhaps the sim has popped up a tiny bit and is now obstructing? Perhaps slapping the phone (gently) on the bed or something to see if that resettles the sim a bit?
Or push it tightly back again (the tray into the phone) to make sure the sim can get some space to pop back or something?
Can't check now what it actually looks like, maybe later this evening I can check it out a bit.

Totally agree with you. I also have the same feeling that it might have moved from its position a little and hence causing the trouble and not popping out. This is getting on my nerves now
I realize this sounds dumb, but did you try the sim tool that came with the phone? Maybe the paper clip you used was to thick or something.

Well I didn't have one so first I tried a pin but felt that it was little too pointed at the end. So I used a paper clip by bend the end which fit perfectly in the pin hole of SIM tray tool. But even after pressing it hard enough it didn't popped out. I have a feeling that SIM has mover a little from its place which is causing this.

Signal/Data problem after repair

Hello guys, after 3 years with my device the power button died on me, so I ordered this replacement on Amazon, and replaced it myself, I had changed the screen and battery before also, with no problems so far.
So, I open the phone, and it had 3 stripped screws:
{

}
I used a 1 mm drill do remove them, and apparently (visually) I didn't do any damage to the device.
I had to add the battery, the camera glass and another part to the replacement, I don't know what it does:
It's not connected by wire, just by "pressure".
Ok, I turn on the phone, on wifi, and everything works great(Signal had full bars). So I closed it without the missing screws.
When I went out to dinner, by 4G had full bars, no X, but not working. I tested with an app, and it showed the signal was ok.
I did an Network Reset, and it didn't help at all.
Now most of the time I have ZERO signal, or 4G with an X, sometimes HSPA works perfectly, sometimes with an X, today I had 4G working for 30 minutes, with 5mb down and 0.25mb up, but right now Zero signal again, and I was in São Paulo and Rio, so big cities with total 4G and 3G coverage.
I didn't have time to do a full wipe because of the holidays, but I don't think it's software related, but I will.
I don't know where the antenna is, or if I could have damaged it, but it makes no sense for me to have full bars and data one minute, and none on the other.
I will open it up again, and also do a full wipe, but I'm curious if someone here have some insight about this problem.
Nexus 6 7.1.1 N6F27I (August 5,2017)
Magisk v14.0
Again, it was working on 4G with 50mb speeds (Max in Brazil for me) moments before my repair.
Thank you very much!
That would be 1 of the 2 speakers that is circled in red. I have torn mine apart atleast 25 times over the years and no signal issues but I did try and find the antenna contacts awhile back and from what I could gather, didn't spend alot of time looking, but they make contact around near the top corners, either one or both I cannot remember, you can see the small square gold contacts in the picture, then from the contacts into the actual midframe itself, hence why there are the 8 "joints" around it, 2 on each corner, I believe those are the antenna lines as it would have been easier for them to just make the midframe a solid piece over multiple parts. I have bent one of my corners to where I can move one of the corners a pretty good amount almost pulling it apart when it's just the midframe by itself so I don't think it's damaged Soo easily, rather try cleaning all of the gold contacts around the midframe, also look very very close at the "pins"(?) That the contacts line up with on the Mobo, they are tiny as hell and can be bent easy, if one is then that could explain it, isopropyl alcohol 89% or higher will clean any surface and is safe, 99% if ur pharmacy carries it lol. Before all that try the baseband cache eraser in the radio thread and flash it in TWRP, maybe flash the newest radio before you resort to opening her up again. Good luck!

Not a problem. Far as the metal shavings goes I'd personally take a very close look over everything, softest bristle toothbrush you can find normally works well for cleaning without damaging anything, I've also found one of my girls smaller/thinner makeup brushes worked wonders for not only the inside but insanely well on the front speaker grills lol. Also as I'm sure you know speakers having magnets inside them it would be a good place for metal shavings to build up. Also if you are having any issues with the speakers or feel they are low they are like $5 or less on Amazon.
Don't worry about a screw or 2 missing lol, think mines missing 2 itself also the middle red circled screw you highlighted, the one above the bottom most highlighted screw, along with, (I believe it to be the one to the right of the camera housing, be careful with them as if they are tightened down past a point they beging putting pressure on the screen bowing it out. Try to go little by little and feel the screen as you tighten to assure it's still flat.
