RAVPower External Battery Bank- Great Price! - Nexus 7 Accessories

First off, I do not have any affiliation with any vendors - whatsoever!
Here's an awesome deal on a highly-rated, 10,000mah battery bank for $29.99/free shipping!
Read about it here
Then go here for info on how to get the deal.
If you want more reviews, go here for reviews on the previous model (essentially the same thing).
I've known about this for a couple of days now, but I just grabbed one, and wanted to share with my fellow forumites.
Hope this helps someone else looking for a battery bank!

I have actually been looking for something like this.. but the price I see is $59.99. Is there a special code I have to use to get the discount and free shipping?
EDIT: oops I didn't read all the way

Yes - you have to go look at the SlickDeals link in my OP.
My smaller power battery bank has been a life-saver so many times in the past six months of ownership. I look forward to getting this one.

Goo deal .. the promo code is only valid from 8pm -11pm EST till Dec 31. Buhch of people say that they run out of the alloted quantities pretty fast, so try to get it as early as you can.

Technical Data say it's 5200mAh, product description say it's 10000mAh

However, the RavPower website states that the pb07 is indeed 10000mAh:
http://www.ravpower.com/ravpower-dy...ones-digital-cameras-tablets-and-e-books.html

Yeah - the Amazon write-up is inaccurate in a number of places - it seems that info from prior models is carried forward. This model uses four Samsung cells that provide 2600mah each.
I'd go with the mfg'ers website and what actual customers say about the battery pack's capacity.

Not that this will make a difference for anyone else but I emailed the seller and they told me this product is not UL certified. Big bummer for me because I'm in the Navy and they require every device that we plug in aboard a ship to be UL certified. This would have been super handy for a deployment as electrical outlets are scarce on the boat. My search continues..

There are plenty of options out there, just typically not at this price point. I took a moment to search and here's one from a company I can recommend:

yes, +1 to the Anker unit.

Just got mine. Super fast shipping. I'll report back after I get a chance to use it.
If you are on the fence, there are some new additions to the product reviews at Amazon here.
The deal lasts through the end of the year. I did notice that they sell out fast when the discount window starts at 8PM est.
Off to get it charged up...

will you provide us with some pics of it next to the nexus 7 by chance (size comparison)?

wavrunrx,
Dude, I would love to, but unlike everyone on this forum right now, I don't yet own an N7. It's at the top of my xMas list and by most accounts I've "been good". So here's hope'in.
The height/width is about the size of a pack of cigs, and it's about 3/4" thick. Rounded edges, hefty, a beautiful piano-black finish, really nice design and comes with a charger, two usb/mini usb cables, and a black velvet storage bag.
If it were white and had an Apple logo on it, it would be $175, easy.

Still don't have an N7 (c'mon Santa! c'mon Santa!, I've been "nice" the whole f**ck'in year!!)...
... but I can report back that this battery pack is awesome. It takes a while to charge-up, but that's expected given it's capacity. I repeatedly put my Galaxy Nexus on it yesterday and it charges super fast and doesn't even break a sweat. Plus I could be charging another phone (or tablet) on the other charging port. Given what I've seen yesterday, this could be my sole energy source for my GNex for the better part of a week without ever being tethered to a wall.

Bookmark: Thanks for Sharing. May look into getting one before the deal expires.

Very nice price indeed, thanks for the quick info. Just curious, how long does it take your unit to charge up?

I got one of these during this deal and I love it. The powerbank was nicely packaged and came with some extra tips for other cellphone models. Even came with an ac plug too which impressed me the most. I love getting products with added accessories that I didn't think would come with. As for the unit, it's compact and stylish and nicely designed. Very portable and lighter and smaller than I anticipated for a 10,000mah charging unit. It's literally small enough to hold in my pocket, but not both my phone and this together. If you carry a pack with you, this would be perfect.
I don't dare to crack open my unit but I read on an Amazon review that the four batteries used is Samsung 18650 power cells which can charge up to 500 or more times. There is also a lit up gauge that lights up to how much power is left in the powerbank. I used this on a short trip last weekend and maybe used this twice and it worked wonderfully. I can see myself using this during future camping trips, outdoor outings and even during emergencies. I love it and I can't stress this enough on having something like this since my phone tends to run out of battery fast during trips since I use my phone a lot during these times. Highly recommend everyone have something like this around.

i just got my unit in the mail today.
comes in a very nice box, well designed, comes with 2 micro usb cables, wall plug, and a felt pull-string bag. the unit itself is quite impressive. has a nice weight to it, and just feels solid. im still charging mine up, but sofar, (and especially for $30) i am *very* impressed.

Awesome. I just orders mine today. I live in Hawaii. How long did it take to get yours in the mail? Also can you do a review on how it charges the nexus 7? How long does it take? Can it fully charge the nexus? Can you use the nexus at the same time while it's charging? Etc. Etc. Thanks

right off the bat i can answer these:
"How long did it take to get yours in the mail?"
i live about 2 miles from where it shipped from, and if it wasnt for xmas eve/xmas day, i would have gotten my unit 2 days sooner. shipping would have been overnight, if not for xmas.
"Can you use the nexus at the same time while it's charging?"
unfortunately no. :crying:
when you are charging the unit itself, it shuts down the 2 remaining usb charge ports, until you unplug it from the wall.
**edit
now that i re-read what you asked; yes, you can use your phone/tablet while it is charging from the RAVPower.
the RAVPower just cannot be plugged into the wall at the same time.

whew! At first I was about to cancel my purchase because I thought you couldn't use the nexus while charging from the RAV. That would have been unacceptable. As far as not being able to use the RAV when the unit itself is charging I don't really mind. Thanks for the quick replies, I'm eager to get mine. Update us on your experience when you got a chance to test it fully charged if it's not too much of a bother

1500mAh Battery for Five Bucks Shipped

I've ordered from this site in the past with favorable results. Shipping can take up to 3 weeks but it is free. This battery is for the Touch Pro 2 but should work with our phones.

Super! I have ordered from them as well with positive result. Let us know how the battery performs when it comes in. Thanks for the heads up!

That's a killer price... and they take paypal. Thanks Hexto!
My only question is... will adding 200mAh really make a big difference?
I was thinking of ordering one of these, too, but now I'm not sure if I need to. Ever since learning that the Calendar was causing my phone not to sleep, I have been being sure to keep that process killed. Let me tell you it has made a HUGE result. I unplug my phone around 8am every day and usually by lunchtime I have a battery that is about 40%. And that is just with moderate use.
Today I unplugged it at the same time and have been streaming BT audio to my car for about 4 hours straight. Now it's 4:30pm and the battery is still at 60%! All by just killing the Calendar process.
Hopefully HTC/Google can get that software kink worked out in the next release.
I agree. Ever since I found what wasn't letting my phone sleep, my battery life has improved tremendously. Also, now that I'm using TaskPanel, all apps that I don't need open get auto-killed when my phone sleeps. That's why I was wondering if the extra 200 mAh would be worth it, even if it is only $5. Anyone have any opinion?
I always like to have an extra battery for when I go camping or travel. Doubt 200mAh will make much of a difference but at that price I'd I don't have to even think about it. Its the price of a foot long
thanks for posting - I bought two to have as extras. They will come in handy at some point!
Where could I find an extra charger for batteries only?
Thanks.

I agree that having an extra battery could come in handy at times. I have to say I am a bit worried about removing the battery cover any more than absolutely necessary, though. With my Droid, the battery cover falls off at will, and I wonder how the Incredible's battery cover will hold up to being removed repeatedly.
Would this charger work?? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25175
My only question is, when my Incredible explodes after installing this battery, can I claim manufacturer's defect? :~P

I'd like to know the answer to this because DealExtreme has some kick ass prices on damn near EVERYTHING!
I don't see how this would work. Contacts seem to be in wrong place. The TP2 is different than the TP, but I could be wrong, it's been known to happen...
You would need to get the base plate for the TP2 battery to charge. Same as incredible.
Or you can do what I just did and placed 20 orders for my client for their incredible
Ebay hkcyberport
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...Category=20336&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=1
It comes with an OEM HTC TP2 battery and charger with the correct plate. It also has a USB(mini) plug to dual charge or plug into laptop.
$10.88 with battery and free shipping. I don't need it right away so the 7-10 days is not big deal.

yeah, it definitely appears to NOT be oem. If I had an order put in for oem and received that, I would not be happy
DX batteries are notorious for being over-rated in their capacity. Plus at that price I doubt if the batteries are protected from overdischarging...explosion would be a possibility.
You can also go to eBay and type in htc incredible battery
and there will be a bundle of 2 of those with a standalone desktop charger for the batteries for about 10-15 shipped.
You can also buy a 14piece bundle with screen protectors, styluses, chargers, the above battery bundle, and a couple cases and more for about 35-40$ shipped.
Well, I just received the battery from DealExtreme. Although it fits in the slot, it will not charge or power up. Either I received a DOA battery, or it does not work. Either way, save your $5.

Picking Up Some Palm Touchstones

So the other day I decided to read up on the wireless charging dock. It seems that Google is taking inspiration from the Palm Touchstone. So I wondered if they would be cross compatible. I checked Amazon and found them for under 10 dollars, so I picked one up just for the hell of it. If it works, great. If it doesn't then oh well, I wasted 10 bucks.
I was wondering if anyone did the same thing

This is a really interesting idea... I would like to hear if this would work from someone more experienced with inductive charging!
If it uses the Qi standard then yes it will work
doubtful
I've posted this previously but I am sorta doubting it will work. I can't find anywhere that says the touchstone supports Qi. I looked at the Qi low power spec document and the ifixit teardown of the touchstone and it seems the primary coil geometries are fairly different. I definitely can't say for sure it won't based on just that but it leads me to wait until someone tests it. Phil over at android central has a nexus 4 now for review and has ordered a touchstone so he can test it. I'll wait until he does before I personally pull the trigger. I really hope I'm wrong though because at those prices I'd probably buy a bunch of them and have them all over the house and office!
the qi spec also requires a 175kHz "digital ping" to ensure a good connection between the receiver and the transmitter; of course not knowing what palm did doesn't help but it's more evidence that it won't be as simple as get it near and it should send energy. I was initially thinking it might work with a bit less efficiency as long as the primary coil operated in the 110-205 kHz range allowed by Qi, but the digital ping has me even less encouraged.
Save your money, a Googler on another forum (I think it was androidtalk) said he tried it and didnt work
The willingness to take one for the team is certainly appreciated, though.
I picked a couple up just in case, but after looking into it further i dont think it'll work
I figure worst case the touchstones are a nice enough magnetic desk "dock" (mainly to hold the phone, not connectivity) so no great loss
Kinda disappointed that it won't work. Oh well, maybe I can find another use for the touchstone.
Why it won't work? The palm touchstone is being used with modified s3 and others I'm sure I've read it use the Qi 2009 standards...
Sent from my SGH-I747
I have a few HP Touchstone inductive charging units from my Touch Pad tablet, might those work? Are they different from the Palm units?
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
I have a BNIB HP Touchpad Touchstome charger, would be great if it works
I also snapped one up for £5 hoping they might work. Sucks that they apparently don't
If these are working on modded S3s, surely they can work on the Nexus 4?
Even if it doesn't work it'll make a great bed side phone stand. If it at least holds the phone in place it may well be worth it regardless.
Yeah, these things are so cheap, that the shipping is more expensive.
Check out page 24 of 30 on the first link about their research. Second link was members talking about Touchstone's frequency. I went and canceled 2 of my Touchstones order. So both devices have to matched frequency to have inductive charging. There is a high chance that Google inductive charging device doesn't match with Touchstone's frequency.

https://developer.palm.com/distribution/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=11227
Edit: It has been confirmed by Androidcentral's Admin that Touchstone will NOT work with Nexus 4.
Confrmed by android central. this will not work.

USB Charging Cable For Nook HD/HD+

Just a FYI for all you Nook HD/HD+ users. I have had a nightmare trying to find an additional USB charger/AC adapter for my Nook HD+. This seems pretty good, albeit not the real Barnes & Noble cables....but the price isn't as astronomical as other sellers. And it's from Hong Kong, so be prepared for a wait. Feedback seems decent, too.

Exactly what I came here to look for!
Did you order some? Keep us posted!
Yes, I did order when I found this eBay listing recently I'll report back when I get one. Think it was Buy It Now for £4.29 not long ago, the price went up slightly.
Excellent tip - thanks for posting
Mine arrived today, in the UK, after a two week wait.
Initially I was not impressed.
I tried it on 2 HD and 1 HD+ and the charge light stayed on green on all of them. No charging.
Then I plugged it into a Windows PC and nothing happened.
Not good!
But then I got to thinking. The charger I was using was an Anker 40w 5-port fast charger. So I dug out one of the original Nook chargers.
The cable sprang to life. Using the original charger it would charge all the Nooks that I could lay my hands on.
Next I plugged it into an Anker charger again, and it continued to charge correctly.
Next I plugged it into the PC again, and now I can see the Nook content properly.
So, I'm slightly confused as to why it needed to connect to a genuine Nook charger first. But since then it is behaving perfectly.
One slight downside to this one over the original, it is only about a yard long, which seems quite short after using the original cables which are at least one foot longer.
Otherwise this is a good replacement for the original, and I was starting to despair ever seeing a source of these again when B&N pulled the plug on their supply chain last month.
Many thanks for recommending it here!!! I'm going to order a couple more spare cables right now.
Update: I plugged this into a USB3.0 port on the PC, and after a few seconds it is actively charging a Nook HD. Something my old, genuine B&N, cables simply would not do. This looks like a winner.
Still Waiting For My Cable.....

Since my post, the ebay seller had put it up to £6.55 (from £4.29, then £4.99, when I ordered), but they seem to have all sold out. Mine still hasn't appeared yet!! (I'm in the UK too).

Still waiting on mine! Not impressed with the original seller from post#1 at all. The seller shopinsaving kept stalling, telling me to wait and wait (I bought this nearly 2 months ago now!!). Then asked if I would please close down the ebay Case I'd opened, then they'd post out a replacement (bit dodgy, surely?). I told them, as per ebay rules, I'd close the Case when I received a replacement.
Just as well I wasn't in any hurry!

I am having this very same problem with all three aftermarket cables I purchased but they do not even work with the original NOOK charger or allow me to connect to a PC.
What causes this, voltage drop across an inferior cable?

Voltage drop is negligible unless the cable is really, really long or the wires inside it too thin.
My guess would be that the connector is wrong and doesn't really fit.
Sorry for the delay replying. I have now got three of these cables and they have some, let's say, quirks.
First off the charging issue appears on my three to be caused by a failure to make good contact at one end of the connector.
I have discovered that these connectors come apart fairly easily. Even a slight creak whilst attempting to connect up with the socket can shift the connector back a fraction of a mill in the housing. This is enough to allow data connections but not power connections. So far 2 of my three have done this.
There appears to be a point where the connector gets forced backwards and comes to rest looking perfectly healthy, with full data links and no charging capability at all.
I suggest that you wiggle the connector so that it comes apart. Then you an take a look for yourself.
If you have a gentle touch and some needle-nose pliers (to get it out again later) you can try connecting the bare connector into the socket. It takes quite a lot of force to seat it properly.
I'm pretty sure that all my troubles are down to not seating the thing correctly.
btw. It seats more easily on my two Nook HD than on the two Nook HD+. Maybe due to the shape of the casing being different.
I am going to carefully stick my two split housings back together using Araldite. That'll stop them ever coming apart again.
If yours have started to creak at all during your attempts I suggest that you pull the connector out a bit and try again.
S'pose it's a while since I logged in here - I had Cyanogenmod on my phone but the Nook HD+ got so laggy it was unusable.
Ended up with a Linx 10 bought from the Staples sale before Xmas 2014 and much happier with it! I thought I'd hate a tablet with Windows, but apart from the crap App Store the full Windows capability is brilliant

Just bought this one.. Like the fact that placing the phone should be a breeze... Struggled big time with my nexus 5 wireless pad since it was so small

Because the S6/S6E uses Qi and PMA you can use either mat. I just ordered 2 of the below ones for only $8.99 each.
With prices that low I thought I would share with you guys.

Any info on the charging rate? Is it 5V/1A like QI chargers?
Just ordered 2, thanks for the heads up on these. I get my edge on Monday so I'll let you know how well it charges.

I came across an old review that said it put out 1A.

I wouldn't skimp out on a cheap wireless charger. being that wireless charging puts a bit of wear & tear on the battery i would opt for a better one that at least give you piece of mind. the problem with the cheap chargers is they can create unnecessary wasted energy that will create more heat on your device/battery. more heat = degrade battery faster.
here is one i would recommended that doesn't break the bank:
RAVPower Wireless Charging Pad: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PY1YBA0/
outputs at 5v @ 1A.
it's $19 and great reviews. protect your investment and spend a few bucks more for a more reliable charger.

Did you even look at the link before posting? This isn't some off brand Chinese charger, it's the Duracell PMA charger that came or with the iPhone 4 this it's muh cheaper due to its age and not quality.

That's a great deal...thanks for the heads up....
I wonder if Qi or PMA is better for the S6 although it can support both....hmmm is one newer technology than the other? Or are we talking the same charging technology, but with two name tags like Coke and Pepsi?
Thanks for the heads up, this is a great deal for sure, especially with the spare battery pack. in for one.

yes, and it's discontinued which is why it's so cheap,. my local Radioshack had them for $8.
the Samsung will work with either charging technology, but Qi charging seems to be the winning "standard" for wireless charging, almost all newer phones are more likely to come with Qi compatibility rather than PMA. so while the PMA might work fine, chances are your $8.99 discontinued charger might not be compatible with your next phone. Nexus 6/5/4/7, Sony Xperia Z3V, Motorola, etc All use Qi. i would much rather spend $10 more and at least i know it will work with my future phones since i upgrade almost yearly..
IT WORKS!!! I'll test to see how long it takes to get to fully charged once I drop this bad boy down to 50%.

Well how well did it do? Does it get very hot after wirelessly charging for a while?
I bought two of these and just tested one out. Seems to work great and actually charged my phone faster than I thought it would. One huge drawback for me that I'm not sure is a problem with Qi is that it would not charge with my case on. I think PMA requires the magnet portion to catch in order to work and that's going to be difficult with any case.

I fell asleep around 130am and the phone was at 43%, woke up for work at 450am and it was fully charged and not hot or even warm at all. I'm gonna have to do a real time drain and charge on my day off to see how long it officially takes.
Also, I have the Samsung slim case on it and it charged with it on.

Interesting. I have a couple of those Lumia Chargers still when the Lumia 900 released that I got for free? or cheap. Gotta dig them up somewhere but it would be cool to use those if they work. I remember charging the Nexus 4 on it was a nightmare cause you had it angle it EXACTLY right or it wouldn't charge.

[REVIEW] EasyAcc "Monster" 20,000 mAh Power Bank

I was approached by the manufacturer about doing a review of this product. Being that I always am wanting to try new things, I agreed !
First thing's first - here's a link to the product on the EasyAcc site, and then the link to it on Amazon.

And one more link - has some great info on what these USB charges or "Power Bank" products are.

Here's my no nonsense layman's review!
I've always wanted to get my hands on a decent USB charger to carry around in my roller-briefcase. In my job role I have to travel the entire length of the county to cover all technical needs to 4 different school district sites. With all that travel, I don't always get to plug in for long at a site, and in the car I am pretty limited to 2 USB ports, so, this one helps out A LOT!
First of all - 20,000 mAh of charge to be shared to your devices. My Moto G 2015 has a 2470 mAh battery. Coming from being FULLY DRAINED, that's 8+ *FULL* charges of your Moto G if that's the only thing you're using it to charge. But the nice thing is, this device has FOUR USB ports, so you can charge your phone, tablet, ipad and e-cigarette all at the same time if it came down to it! There are 4 LED indicators on it showing how much charge it has left - 4 lit up means 100%, 3 means 75%, 2 means 50% and 1 means 25% . Also, it will adapt to the device's max charging speed.
The power bank is also small enough that it could fit in the cargo pocket of your pants. Plug in your phone to it, turn on your bluetooth headset and talk until you're blue in the face - you won't be running out of battery anytime soon!
I live in Florida so hurricanes are a yearly annoyance. With the high probability of one knocking out power if it hits, you can still charge or power your technology from this power bank for several days without worrying about running out of juice. Speaking of power outages - this power bank has a great accessory built into it - a flashlight (a damned bright one at that!)
To be 100% honest, I haven't been able to kill this thing - I have yet to drain it down below 25% after having done a LOT of charges for my phone and Galaxy Tab 4.
I look forward to being able to incorporate this device into my daily life - it's made a real difference so far - now only if it were waterproof so I could take it out on my kayak when I fish!
Looks like bargain for a 20000mAh Power Bank. I went with the JUNOJUMPER (which has only 25% of the mAh as the EasyAcc) a few years back. Still working just fine. And yes, it really can start the engine of a small car..
