[Q] Is the Nook HD+ screen "tackier" than other screens? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It feels like my Nook HD+'s screen is tackier than my Samsung GS3 or my Kindle Fire 1.0.
It's as if my finger "catches" on the screen as I swipe.
I've used an alcohol screen wipe to clean it and it still seems tacky; at least compared to my other touch devices.
Just me?

I wouldn't say I've noticed anything like that. I've got a screen protector on mine, but even with that, it's perfectly fine terms of responsiveness. The only thing I'm still getting used is the kind of sepia/yellow'ish tone to the background.

Mine felt that way until I got the screen protector. But also after it gets enough fingerprints (with or without the protector) the screen goes wonky. Phantom touches, etc. I have to wipe the screen to get it back to normal.

Help Rooted Nook Color is Going Crazy on its own

Hi - I rooted my nook about two days ago, it was working great, but now it seems to have gone all whack.
It is opening apps by itself without me pressing any command, it opens apps, moves the home screen, etc., all by itself, i have to try hard to force a reboot.
Even then after a few seconds it goes off on its own.
It's on 1.1.0 with Auto Nooter 3.0
Not sure what's going on here, any help?
I thought it was due to a app i installed so i uninstalled like the last 5 apps
Thanks
Any help guys - do I just reset to factory and do it again?
Is there a lot of finger prints on the screen? I read about that being an issue... And when I was buying a screen protector last week, even the B&N clerk said finger prints can cause all sorts of weird problems on it.
Hopefully it is something that simple.

I'd clean the screen really well. If it's still doing weird things or being unresponsive, try recalibrating the screen.
There are a lot of fingerprints, that might be the issue, i'll power it off and wipe it out down using a lint cloth or microfiber.
What is the method to recalibrate by the way, just in case.
Also, I think I need to find a good screen protector like zagg or bestskinsever (hopefully they release it soon as im waiting for it).
Thanks
I believe Zagg has a shield for the NC already. A lot of folks (including me) use the antiglare shield sold at B&N. Nice for reading and has a nice smooth finish.
Here's the link to recalibrate your screen. Good luck!

[Q] Is anyone elses touch screen really very innacurate?

My nook color is running a custom rom. I've used several roms and my touch screen is always very inaccurate. When I touch the screen, it registers the touch a little to the side of where I touch. It gets very annoying and really hampers the usefulness of this otherwise fine tablet.
Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone else have a hacked nook with a good and accurate screen? Is there a fix? Should I bother getting it repaired?
Search the market for nook color screen calibration app that usually fixes any issues for me

I've tried it. It doesn't help me. It makes the screen more sensitive to the point where it registers clicks when my finger hovers a half inch off of the screen. It also makes it more prone to fantom touches.
You probably need to clean your screen

First thing is to thoroughly clean the screen as has already been mentioned. The next thing I would suggest is to get a screen protector as it seems to help a great deal with phantom touches. Also try running nook screen recalibrate (with the aformentioned screen protector) and disconnected from the charger.
The nook screen is really sensitive while charging.
If these suggestions do not help, perhaps you should take the nook in to B&N and have it looked at for possible replacement.

my HD+ is possessed

Every now and then it will just start opening files by itself, you can't get it to stop. Wondering if the nook screen protector i'm using could be causing it...it seems to start when i'm in the stock browser. Not rooted but am using a sideloaded launcher.
Yes screen protector can.

I find with my screen protector that I have to wipe the oily prints off. They don't show but they make the device go wonky after a while.

Aside from the screen protector, I also notice that the touchscreen itself is very finicky. I means say if something that need to hit and hold like an icon to get menu popup. It's extremely hard to get the popup, even if you hold it pretty steady. I have nova launcher on both my Nook HD+ and Galaxy Note II, of course we can't compare build material here. Note II is just on another level in term of hardware wise. But the touch is just way more solid on the Note II.

I noticed it too. I think it is something in stock. My CM10 is much better.

If you decide to remove the screen protector, and it no longer behave like it was processed. Would you go into the Accessories forum and post there, please tell us the brand/where you brought also. So other people don't make that $20 mistake.

Indeed, yes, I noticed it too. I figured it was just the way I was holding/clicking it, but I suppose not. It must be either a problem with the hardware, or as leapinlar stated, probably the stock ROM.
i was using one of the B&N clear protectors...I removed it and it still does it though not as bad....i'm hoping it's just the fingerprints causing it. I was in the B&N store earlier looking around, it started clicking on things on it's own, though not as frantic as when i had the screen protector on. With the protector on it was clicking so fast i couldn't get out of it, had to hold down the shutdown button.
i posted about the protector on the accessories forum.
Hm.. that sounds off krighton. I'm starting to think it could be a software issue. But before we dig into that, I think perhaps you should clean your screen as much as you can. If not, then you could try reinstalling your OS. I'm not too sure, is that possible? If so, or even if you can't, see if you can get anything done under warranty; since reinstalling could be a hassle.
I'm not too sure if warranty is available; I purchased the Nook HD+, and it didn't say anything about warranty, although I'd like to know. If anyone knows anything about warranty, could I please ask for your input? Thank you!
should get a standard 1 year warranty with the device....yeah sounds weird, cleaned the screen i 'll see what happens...would hate to mail it back in after rooting.
Just do 8bootloop b4 sending it back. But you should still at least try getting refund forthe screen protector if it cost you $20.
yeah, i'll check that out...actually bought 2, the non glare and the clear....didn't like the non glare so i'll eat that one but the clear should have worked without problems.
Which screen protector did you buy? I'm considering doing Invisible Shield. I have always had good luck with it on my phone.
I'm probably an odd person, but I never use screen protectors. It seems that the glass is tough enough for finger nails and the occasional contact with whatever else. However, I do believe in cases

I did it for fingerprints. The bare HD+ was awful. My anti-glare hides them, but I do have to wipe occasionally to prevent that wonky problem.

I always intend to get a screen protector, but never quite get around to it. That said, my Nook Color's screen is mint after a couple years' use with a case, but without a screen protector. My phone came used with a nick in the screen, but isn't much the worse for wear even bouncing around in my pockets for a year and change.
I haven't had any trouble with the clear B&N screen protector. I'm a believer in screen protectors since I somehow managed to scratch the screen of my first nook while plugging in the usb cable. I find the anti-glare type take away from the sharpness of the screen too much though.
screen is pretty sensitive, just a few fingerprints and it turns pages on its own. Guess i need to find a better screen protector, cleaning the screen several times a day is a bit annoying.
Could rooting have caused any of these problems? When it happens i have to turn off the nook, wipe it down really good and then it works for a while until it starts flipping pages on its own again. Maybe my nook is just hypersensitive to fingerprints.

[Q] Nook HD+ Touch Screen Issues

Currently running 2.0.4 rooted (and loving it). I've come to notice that the touchscreen is rather finicky. If you press down too hard it activates touch and when scrolling through things in Rom ToolBox it will sometimes activate or select things that I didn't want to. I'm sure this is a hardware thing not a software thing. I think it's because the touch screen is so close to the surface, also using styluses has proven useless too since the screen is oddly grippy. So I was wondering if you guys out there have come up with a nice work around or if you know that maybe 2.0.5 would fix this issue. I just couldn't find root methods for it that worked so hence why I chose to stick with 2.0.4.
Thanks in advance.

Why is it that finger prints cause a problem with a capacitive screen?

Fingerprints don't have capacitance? I'm not really sure why it makes a difference, but it does.

the only conclusion I can draw is thanks to its new lamination technique. This forces the digitizer closer to the surface and that much more finicky. The added benefit is that I've notice that the amount of surface area needed to register a touch is rather small, about 2.5 mm^2, I've tested with some objects around my house. So if there was a way to adjust the screen sensitivity that would be great, also the screen is too grippy so it causes my finger to stutter, the matte screen helps with the finger and retarding the sensitivity but its still a little too sensitive.

Anti-reflective Screen Protector

For use on my Nook HD+:
This is open to our group here.
Does anyone know of a screen protector that is actually "anti-reflective" and not just anti-glare for an led tablet screen. What I am seeking is something that would diffuse reflected light sources and come as close as possible to how an eInk/eCarta screen looks in direct light situations. Yes, I know a byproduct of this would be to dull down the overall brightness of the unit's screen. Have looked in vain for sometime now for this.

I ordered this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0594450659/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for my husband's second HD, so it's not the size you need but it is the material you want. We both prefer not to see our reflections in our tablets as we use them I also have a Nook Simple Touch and this screen protector comes close to giving the effect you describe. So now you know what to look for.
Edit: Here you go: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Barnes-Nob...882848&hash=item3f55bbb1bf:g:pWAAAOSwo6lWJV6e
Thanks. That is the type I originally used which I replaced with a "Supershieldz" version sometime ago. The "newer" one does a somewhat better job than the original except for sun and incandescent light reflections. Have yet to find a real diffusing surface screen protector for led tablets.
Anti-reflective screen protector
Google (or search eBay) 'skinomi matte nook hd+' and you might find what you want.
Just got an HD+ off eBay and as soon as I get it running with Cyanogenmod LN14 and all my apps loaded, I'm getting one. Skinomi protectors are great: easy to clean: just wipe it with a rag or your shirt. Also no fingerprints.
