Phone upgrade recommendation - Off-topic

Hey, I'm looking to upgrading my phone after, sadly, giving up with WP7. I love Windows Phone 7, but starting to lose all hope with the lack of apps it has It's a HTC 7 Pro, my phone before it was a HTC Touch Pro. Before that I had a Sony Ericsson w850i, which, at that time, had an amazingly good speaker quality and volume.
Now I really like the iPhone, insanely good speaker quality, loud, fast and decent quality HD camera. It would absolutely suit my needs - However I really want to give Android a go. I was looking into the Sony xperia V or the samsung galaxy s3. Can someone let me know if either of these phones are as good as the iPhone, requirement-wise? (See my requirements below) Otherwise please recommend me a phone which match these requirements. Thanks very much!
- Very loud, decent quality speaker with audible bass (very much like on the iPhone - or better if possible!)
- High quality HD recording (again, like on the iPhone)
- Must be Android
- Great processor (1GHz+?), good with multi-tasking and a nice phone to 'show off'

Out of those two the S3 is the better choice. The nexus 4 is great as well but thats kind of hard to get your hands on.

Go on, guess.

No way, iphone hands down. Blows android out the water. But get the 4. The 4s is the same thing and 5 just has a bigger screen. So get the 4 and you're gold.

iphone 3g kills s3 hands down noob

I don't like Apple products or the iPhone, it's too limited, and you can't use development functions on it. The iPhone is amazing when it comes to the speaker quality, camera quality, but that's about it. Android can do everything an iPhone can do pretty much, and more, hence why I asked for a recommendation.
But if everyone recommends the S3, then I'll be getting that! Thank you very much.

Wait for the s4

a) note 2 (if you can handle the size)
b) nexus 4 (if you can lay your hands on it)
c) galaxy S3
d) HTC one s+

definitely the Note II,
i've had the Gnex, the s3, and the Note II, and note is the best, awesome battery life, and raw power.
as long as you can handle the size, but once you get used to it everything else seems so miniscule lol
but yeah, if not, just get the s3, because a nexus 4 is way too hard to find.

My advice is to do what I and many others do: waiting for the S4 or the Xperia Z.

Well if the screen size is all you are concerned with, go Android. But if you prefer better hardware, more functional software, better support, easier mods, and cheaper apps you need to definitely go with....wait.... Android there too.

If u want to be dominated by Big Brother, then get the iphonie...
i will make this simple for you... if you dont know much about computers or electronics, and dont care to. get an iphone. if are a huge techy guy, and plan on being a power user of your phone (somebody who treats it more like a computer and not a phone) then do yourself a favor and get a high end android phone - top of the line, cutting edge.
iphones are bland, for soccer moms, and people who love having AMAZING hardware, with no in depth user functionality.
IF YOU LIKE PLAYING ANGRY BIRDS... AND TEXTING... AND CHECKING EMAILS...AND THAT'S IT........ get an iphone.
if you are a boring, sad individual, who loves a socialist society and socialist phones and socialist phone carriers who force their socialism by saying "use this, it looks like this, just like everybody else" then get an iphone.
if you like iphones, maybe you can have xibit pimp your ride...

With all the joking in this thread I think I should step in and be the serious one. I would not buy either phone for the next two weeks. The iPhone 5 announcement and also a Samnsung event with google are both scheduled for the next two weeks and if at all possible I would wait for these events. The Nexus Prime and the iPhone 5 will be cutting edge when they are released.

Ah common, they are good devices and they did set the standard, personally I wouldn't use an iphone, don't like its limitations, etc. but for the common masses it works as advertised. So will I change my phone, sure, then sell it and buy a better phone for my needs...
I will take it, of course! No doubt!
Then I'll sell it and buy another Android or WP phone for my personal use.
I would consider it embarrassing to be seen in public with an Iphone. And i used to have some ipods (ipod touch, nano, ect) and they all broke, i think the build quality is also ****. The software is ****. I just hate apple products

Why?
Trade value 7/10 is higher on it .vs some Android flagships, I would flip it & use that money towards a newer flagship Android phone.

This.
Here in Singapore an iPhone can be sold for around $900. A HTC One X costs $720. If somebody wanted to give me an iPhone 4S for my SGS2 I would gladly take it, sell it and get the One X.
That's also why I tell all my friends who want to get an Android to get an iPhone with their recontract and sell it.
I wouldn't trade my lumias for iPhones, but if I still had android phones I'd trade any of them for it.
You would be dumb not to take it based on resale alone......if its given.to.u.free, u can sell a ip4 8GB for 300. So as they.get bigger they get more expensive. Then.add about $100 on to every line and size for the 4S.

I like fluidity, stability, and the simple act of using a phone for it's social foundation. So, android isn't for me.
Its happened to me. Epic 4G Touch black for iPhone 4S 32GB White (Sprint), straight trade. I agree with the above guy, you'd be a moron not to take it. Why? Resale value is ridiculous. I called up Sprint, had it unlocked, and sold it for $600. Then I went and bought a BNIB Epic 4G Touch for $350. I made $250 by shuffling some phones around.
An iPhone 4S for my Skyrocket...hmm...I have a huge screen, 16GB onboard storage + expandable memory, LTE, and the ability to modify my phone in about every way possible...hmm I don't think I would. iPhones are nice looking but there small, too much glass, and just popular because people don't try other phones.

Your view on bb10?

So blackberry 10 was just released. What are your thoughts on the z10 and the q10?
I think the z10 runs on a snapdragon s4 plus and has 2 gigs of ram with a 720p 4.2 inch display(355ppi). The q10 might have similar ram+processor but i think the screen has a smaller and obviously it wont have as many pixels.
It is definitely capable of competing with some new phones IMO. But that's not why i created this thread. I want to see your thoughts.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk 2
Correction: the Z10 runs on the OMAP 4470. The Q10 shares the same specs sans screen-estate.
I really don't like hardware-whores who are downplaying the Z10 purely based on the OMAP. Which is ironic seeing as how Google phones are a success because of their software. (with the exception being the Nexus 4).
The Z10 could be a success depending on how well they innovate in the OS. When I first heard that unlocking the screen could be as simple as double-tapping: I was impressed in the same way a small rock that ripples can become a large splash in constructive interference. The specs are basically mid-range at this point, but then again, so is the iPhone 4 too (and that has 512 RAM). Difference being that the iPhone 4 still performs as smoothly and gracefully for all its intents/purposes and its audience. I think the Z10 was designed with that kind of mindset. When a phone feels smooth enough, when the phone does everything you need it to do: maybe you but most people won't care what's under the screen.
We're seeing the move away from removable batteries, Micro-SD slots, and smaller screens. Personally, the direction the industry is going (as evident by the Nexus 4) dissuades people like me from upgrading. I don't need a huge-ass 4.7+ screen, I love the comfort and convenience of flash cards, and removable batteries, I definitely like the square-like aesthetics of the Z10 versus the general trend of bar-soaps.
While I'm not in a hurry to get a Z10, I will closely follow the news surrounding it. The BB10 OS is what will really make the Z10 shine but it's a double-edged sword if it subpar: much like the Windows Phones. But so far, feature-wise, I think the Z10 has its bases covered.
I like. Looks like a huge comeback for Blackberry.

BB was a wonderful device,
now it just looks like a modded version of android,
they should have focused more on business and government consumers rather than the mainstream market
BlackBerry Exchange Server, or BES costing $99 plus fees AND no compatibility with legacy devices is killer. BlackBerry should know better when there are other cheaper options out there. As for the OS, it still feels extremely business oriented which is a great thing. I own a Galaxy S III right now, but I would purchase a Z10 to have as my secondary business phone. It's the right size, the specs don't have to be spectacular as with older versions of the OS it's hardware integrated and it's styling is better than most Android devices out there. I think it will overtake Windows in terms of Market share but won't be as successful as Android or iOS devices.

New competitors are a good thing. Old ones trying to make a come back will just leave early adopters with unsupported devices. Anyone who really thinks rebranding and 2 mildly competitive flagship phones is enough to save RIM (now Blackberry) is delusional.

Camera quality = decent
Video Recording = laggy when moving around (try it yourself)
Speakers = lol are they serious?
battery = alright, nothing great.
Other then that phone is awesome. I love everything else about it, overall i'm going to keep it.

The speaker is whatever to me. The placement isn't the greatest, my finger seems to fall in that spot quite often, but as far as the quality, it's... a cell phone. Coming from the HTC One I feel spoiled. I just took some camera shots in my apartment between the One and the Nexus, normal and HDR, and I was impressed with the Nexus' camera. I just wish the shutter speed was faster.
I was worried when I got it that it wouldn't live up to the One, and while there are some trade-offs, I think I'm going to be happy with making the switch.
The direction of the speaker makes a big difference. In landscape mode the sound only comes from 1 side which almost feels like one of your headphones isn't working.
On the plus side the quality is quite good when volume isn't an issue.

For me, the speaker is poor, bus that's about it really and I wouldn't classify that as a major flaw.

OP needs to rename this thread to "minor flaws"
I still see this phone not as a migration for people already having an high end device but a really good jump from older devices. I had an HTC one X, and if it had not broken six month ago (I fell back to HD2 in the mean time) I wouldn't have bought the N5. It's a good device, but a part from the hype I don't see any major motivation to switch to it.

You could say that about ANY device.
They are all a compromise, you have to decide if the balance of price / features / openness /etc is right for you.
Speaker sucks!! Not a real improvement since N4. I can even flash some special mod to make the speaker in my previous N4 more seriously.... Someone still said.... decent volume? O.M.G.
Luckily I listen to music through Bluetooth in my car, and never talking when turn on the speaker, so... not a big deal. But my brother just give up and trade it plus a couple $ with an HTC One and happy with that (sh!tty phone IMO)
Everything else is great. I love my N5.
This is my first Nexus phone and I Ferrell the speaker is low, but I'm learning it may be certain videos while on YouTube.

And they are entitled to criticize the product, we just simply need one thread for such comments, which are as good as yours or mine.
So far the only thing that's disappointed me is battery life... speaker placement is questionable sure, but not that big a deal in my opinion. What are the odds of battery life improving noticeably with an update from Google/developers?

Not much has changed from S4 in terms of design though, which is a disappointment. And it still looks like it's made out of some type of plastic and not even faux leather!
The UI is a little bit different and is much flatter.
The camera is 16MP. It is yet to be seen if it's the ISOCELL tech. Also, UHD recording is present.
According to calculations done by somebody, the battery is 2800 MAh, and it looks just the same as the one on the Galaxy Round.
There is also a Fingerprint scanner on-board, possibly only a Swipe type which is located on the home button.
Menu key has been replaced with multitask key and there is a weird sensor near the camera flash (iris scanner probably). EDIT: It is a Heart Rate Monitor

If this is true, I am disappointed
That dotted back design is weird

It is disappointing to me too. I expected a radically changed design this time around.
It looks worse than Hyperglaze or Faux leather. And the white one looks like Styrofoam.
But maybe there will be a premium "Prime" version too. There are leaks about such a possibility.

Hoping for the same dude. 8 hr 30 mins to go anyways
Hahahahahahaha...
It's getting worse from generation to generation. The charade to be something premium know looks really really cheap.
What do we say to the Galaxy S5? - Not this time Samsung...

They seem to be just throwing in a good SoC, Camera, display and bloatware and not bothering about the build quality!
I stuck with my phone (iPhone 4) since 2010. I really want a new device an I'm waiting for every press event from Samsung, Sony, Apple and others. But the leaked pictures are very disappointing. Again...
My preference is for the Note 3
That design team needs to be fired ASAP. I hope the press this time criticizes negatively Samsung with no mercy.
Ewwwww
Looks like a cheap bath mat you get in a hotel
Seriously ._. That's what it looks like ._. This is where I go hahaha Samsung you piece of crap with Knox and terrible ui lol can they not find ANY better styling!?!?!

Samsung need to hire that Duarte guy from Google. His designs using budget material and costs are amazing. With Samsung's pockets and resources he could design something that would beat an iPhone or HTC in beauty and also have personality, while starting a new design language for future samsung devices.

For me is good.. I'm looking for hardware improvments - design is last thing I will borther with..

I'm a hardcore samsung fan, but this is ugly AF. Glad I got the Note 3 and didn't wait for this.
Why does the model says gt 00000

This is one ugly ass phone, even though I'd stick it in a cover I would not be happy buying that phone. Was going to go from my sg3 to this but scratch that, next months HTC is what I'm looking at now.
How hard is it to look at a design or a prototype and see that it looks awful and start again?

this is a question that will never be answered. Some car designs for example are absolutely awful - who comes up with the designs and the fact they actually get mass produced is beyond me.
