[Q] Why is the AT&T Note awesomer than ours? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why do they have a CM10 stable and we dont?
Why is their subforum that nice?
And most importantly what are the differences between AT&T Note and N7000?

Stable cm10 doesn't make it awesomer.. It has a crappie chipset (qualcom) snapdragon s3 adreno 220 gpu Wich its way slower than N7000 exynos 4 and Mali gpu
Tapatalking on my n7000

But still..

Because our community always wants latest, stability comes second here
Maybe because there are only Americans so they get along? Who knows. Our community isn't bad either, you just gotta keep out of the way of the dragons and the rest are relatively harmless. Not asking stupid questions helps too...
Msdek already told that

Upgrading

Hi guys! I would like to ask you something about upgrading from S1 to S2. What do you think? Does it worth it? I mean what would the advantages and disadvantages of each other? I assume that it's faster due to the processor and graphics but I'm not a "gamer" so... What do you guys think?

Performance wise, yes you would greatly benefit from the S2. Playing videos and multitasking will be super smooth, although our sgs 1 can do that too.
But if you are contented with your current phone, I suggest you wait for the next installment that is Galaxy S3 due out this year if rumors are true.
S1 is a great phone, it still has years before it gets really outdated. IF money is not an issue then definitely get S2 or wait for the S3.
Just my 2 cents.
well the fact is i won't afford an SIII when it will come out so for the upgrade to SII i need about 100€... so in fact is the SII worth 100€ over SI?

Consider this, Sammy has stopped support for S1 and continues to roll out updates for the S2. If you are content with flashing the latest roms to get your S1 updated then it would be advisable you stick with what you currently have.
Since you said you were a non-gamer, I reckon S1 would suit your needs just fine.
I'd rather save up that extra 100 for another more awesome phone in the future.

Should i go for galaxy nexus or htc one S? help guys.

hey!
I need your help i am really confused between these two devices htc one S and galaxy nexus?
Htc one s = snapdragon S3 (asia)
Galaxy nexus = cortax A9
Which is better?
Give me an review about these two devices if you can.
Thank you.
Evil_penguin.
Lol awkward... you're actually asking for gnex and one s review on ace forum where people use ace and those two device are still a dream to them :/
Theres boatloads of gnex and one s review on google, youtube, blogs etc

Ya i am seeing reviews, blogs, youtube.
I am really confused :-\
What i think is that i should go for gnex
More developers support
Google phone
Cheap
Vanilla android.
Fast updates.
What do think?
Snapdragon S3 or cortax A9??
Thanks
I'd definitely go for gnex, or the one s with s4. Heard terrible things about one s with s3. Overheat, battery drain etc.

Ok now i feel better, most probably i will buy nexus now.
Snapdragon S3 is outdated :-/ and its issues.
Sadly, htc one s with snapdragon S4 is not avavilable in asia only for US.
Thanks!

buddy you don't know much of chipsets A9 is architecture of cpu and not some processor..
now come to point S3 is out of date as launched in 2010 and nexus sports TI-OMAP which is considered to be most developer friendly chipset.. so i would go for OMAP and if you can get S4 then definitely S4

Thanks for sharing this information!
No S4 are avavilable for asia only outdated S3 :-/
that's it most probably going for galaxy nexus.
Thanks again buddy
But gnex is insanely huge I've held it for around 30 minutes and feels like holding a tablet already. Those above 4 inch phone were created for american with their huge hand in mind, not us asian with our puny hand :/
One S is not small either and i don't think now sizes will come down ever they are competing for no reason on screen sizes..
SGA is of good size (as iPh4)..
Yup! Main reason i was looking htc one s was because of size.
Galaxy nexus is too big :-/

frankly for me sga too is too big to comfortably hold in one hand. thats why i grab lww with 3.2 inch. mini with 3 inch is too small. but lww with 3.2 just feels perfect for me. will hold on to this lww for as long as possible. but by that time newer phone would need a dedicated slingbag to carry :/

[Success!] Just sent urgent SOS to Tab Pro 10.1 Developers - WE HAVE A ROM!

The Tab Pro 10.1 has tons of development activity. Tab S 10.5 not so much (i.e., practically none as far as roms). Just private messaged the top Developers in the Tab Pro forum asking if their work there can be ported to the Tab S. Hardware other than the screen is very similar. Seems like it should be doable (although I'm not a developer and there may be complications of which I am unaware).
Anyway, flare fired, emergency beacon activated. Let's hope we can get some port love here and get a solid rom or two going.
** They may need some guinea pigs to test things out. But these are extremely experienced recognized Devs and you should take some comfort in that.
UPDATE: All development for the 10.1 is for the SM-T520 which is the Exynos 5 wifi model. Should be no issues there.
TAB PRO 10.1:
Chipset Exynos 5 Octa 5420
CPU Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7
GPU Mali-T628 MP6
TAB S 10.5:
Chipset Exynos 5 Octa 5420
CPU Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7
GPU Mali-T628 MP6
Identical.
UPDATE:
Good news folks! Our little project here has resulted in a working, smooth and pretty dammed fast rom for the 10.5 (US Version). It is still in Beta but based upon my experience, everything seems to be working.
Special appreciation to @Shaheer who came here from the 10.1 Pro Forums and without the benefit of his own device built a working rom for us. My thanks also go out to all the smart people who teamed with him to make it happen.
Go give it a flash. It only gets better from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/sm-wip-rom-t2832360
** Update: Have just heard from @mrwookie6379 in the Tab Pro 10.1 forums. He has also expressed interest in developing for us. Cool.
There is a big difference between tab pro and tab s.
Maybe I'm wrong but the development is only on snapdragon version of the tab pro...

If any of these devs ported CyanogenMod or aosp, I would love to take a look at their device directory. I am getting closer with my port but running into a crash with surfaceflinger and the mali driver.
My wife would be happy if I got this working so I could stop obsessing.

i have the 10.1 and have been considering the S and so looking around here to make my decision. i will say that the Exynos component is probably going to prevent us from every seeing CM11 becase they dont develeop for it. also there is very little dev for the 10.1 and what little there is sees very little updates and most roms seem to be abandoned.
none of the 10.1 to date have developed far enough to make me want to install them yet.
you can look here to see them and then check OP for last update and you will see what i mean
Ah the mondrianwifi, I took a look at that one initially but unfortunately it had enough subtle differences it wasn't much use.
Edit: So just did some digging, still can't find any ports of cyanogenmod to 10.1 (SM-T520). Ill spend a little bit more time digging but as far as I can tell the closest port has been the exynos 5410 samsung galaxy s4 which is what I forked my current port.
When I said there was no development on the Tab Pro, I meant the T520 of course, as the T525 is snapdragon...
It seems I was right, I didn't see any cm11 work for the T520.

By "development" are you referring only to CM? That's a pretty narrow definition of development. And of course no CM for Exynos but lots of TW based roms as you can see from the Tab Pro forum.
CM is awesome and clean and light and fast but you also give up the entire TW ecosystem including multiwindow which is a big price to pay for a little more speed.
Yes TW can go to the junk, CM is the best thing we could have on our tablets.
I consider TW based Rom more as tweaks / tuning than real development.

Yes of course ...........

And android is just tweaked linux. Though the difference in porting AOSP/CM to this device versus modifying the current rom is like the difference between building a model rocket from a kit and launching a shuttle into orbit.
Really anyone who knows how to extract/build a system.img can build a rom for this device in under an hour. Super simple. Though thats not what I am personally interested in accomplishing. There is way too much stuff in the samsung rom that triggers my paranoia, up to and including the clause in the license that says something along the lines of any data we collect can be used to evaluate your eligibilty for hiring at samsung.
I am getting AOSP/CM on here or this tablet is going up for sale. If anyone is interested in helping out I have a couple github repos up and making progress on a daily basis.

Unfortunately the 5410 doesn't use the mali gpu which is where I am currently getting a crash. I just imported a bunch of code from the arndale_octa (Raspberry pi like board that uses the 5420 SOC) and waiting for my build to finish.

5420, 5422, and the 5800 use the T628.
As for the crash it looks like its happening somewhere between hwcomposer, gralloc, libEGL, and libGLES_mali. I put that fork on pause while I try take a look at the arndale_octa mali code.

Lol, argue with me about what, that only CM development is real development? The entire Development section of any Samsung forum is dedicated to non-CM based roms and represents 95% of all development for that device - and simple they're not.
The purpose of this thread is to draw rom development to the Tab S 10.5. Denigrating TW developers and comparing their efforts to model rocketry doesn't help. As far as CM being the space shuttle, that ship is already built and on the pad, you're just looking for the launch codes.

DN5 vs. Sixperience Note 5

We, Exynos Note 4 users, are super lucky to have so many great developers working on ROMs to make our phones better. Over the last few days we got 2 Note 5 ports! They don't differ much and I'm asking you which one do you prefer more? I'm torn between them both and I can't figure out which one I should flash later on. I have heard that Electron Team members are bringing a new update soon that fixes many bugs but geiti94 isn't sleeping either.
Both are excellent roms. I'm on sixperia waiting for dn5 v0.2

Not the right time to ask such a question.
Actually after testing both roms they are pretty much the same which confuses me
But as the both roms are still under development amd improvements so the answer of your question will be very hard to tell may be after a month or so you can get a clear answer.
And go try for yourself
All in all thanks for the great developers for their big efforts and their sleepless night to bring our devices back to life.

[??ROM??] How to start building cm12.1 rom for SM-T810

I'm not totally new to compiling CM for devices, as I compiled the sources for the Samsung i9100 and Motorola titan before. However starting development on a new device is a bit more challenging. Are there people who can help with starting this build? I already found this CM wiki page, but it kinda assumes you know what you're looking for when filling in the blanks. (or toe be more precise, know where to look in the locations for the required values)
It would also be nice to work together with someone who developed for a device before.

Hmmm, this one is more difficult then the Exynos 5 in the T800? (cm12.1 is being build for that tablet) There also is an Optimalrom and a custom Kernel for this device... I'd think it should be possible.
I don't know if it is more difficult. The optimalrom is just a debloated and deodexed rom, still close to touchwiz. Cyanogenmod uses a whole other kind of building. Kernels are a bit modifies, but there is no heavy overclocking or undervolting possible yet.
Has anyone consulted the guys that worked on the Tab S version? They might be of some help.

Look at teameos.org, they have their own builds for the note 4 exynos. Not cm12, but you may be able to find whatever missing pieces you need to work on it
