Can the S4 pro handle the high res? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Coming from a nexus 10 it is painfully apparent that the internal is is insufficient to handle such a high res which is why im returning it in hope of picking an xperia Z up however having said that....
1) Looking at videos there seems to be a bit of lag and stuttering as people move around the interface.
2) People who have had experiences with the DNA might be able to tell us a bit more.

one of my friends with the DNA says its super smooth even with heavy sense skin on it and the hd display
the s4 processor is a beast.. so dont worry
and the videos dont do justice capturing the quality of the display and the smoothness of the OS.
but i would say once its out just try it out at a store.. and then go for it..

The APQ8064 is insanely fast and efficient with a very good GPU. It'll be fine. From what I've heard the Xperia Z is extremely smooth in operation.

The internals of the Nexus 10 seem fine to me

Trust me theres a lot of stuttering moving around the UI and Lag

Its looked smooth on every video I've seen. Where has it lagged?

I own a Nexus 10 and have noticed very little lag. I think you are overstating the issue.

The ZL is speedy enough for me. Just about as fast as my Nexus 4, and the ZL is running very beta firmware. Gaming might be a different story, but most of the good games offer some type of resolution scaling.

I don't know whether the S4pro is sufficient to maintain a 100% smooth and fast ui experience, but the videos I have seen all seem to show that it is powerfull enough. Web browsing in particular seems super smooth.
My only concern with the XZ is the battery life, I really hope it's better than the XS.

Google knows best and they have access to both. They decided on the Qualcomm S4 pro for the Nexus 4 and the Exynos 5 for the Nexus 10. You figure out the rest. If Samsung/Google wanted to use the S4 pro, it wouldn't be hard considering Samsung is only Qualcomms biggest customer and uses their chips for the North American Galaxy S handsets.
I don't even think the Qualcomm S4 pro can even support 2560 x 1600 actually.
---------- Post added at 06:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:37 PM ----------
Yup, I was correct. One version of the S4 pro maxes out at WUXGA(with a modem) resolution and the more powerful one is a little higher at QXGA(without a modem) resolutiuon.
It can't even run the Nexus 10 even if they wanted to.

Enough said, the S4 pro chokes a bit on sense and 1080p. Not sure how much better the tablet Z would fair with 1920 x 1200.
You won't get much smoother than the Nexus 10. Wait for an update before you sell. When I had mine before my Brother went overseas and couldn't wait until Google restocked, my Nexus 10 was lights out smoother than my Nexus 4, which has an S4 pro and a much lower resolution.

The S4 pro no only handle high res. ITS MAKE CARNAGES AND SMASH HEADS!!!!!!:cyclops:

Galaxy tab 8.9 vs 7 plus

Sorry guys for using this section but it is the only one for the 8.9
I would like to buy one tablet but I'm wavering between the 8.9 and the new 7 plus
the 8.9 is cheaper but the 7 plus can make phone call and got a microsd slot
help me to make this choice
thanks
For what will the tablet be used? Will you still carry a separate phone?
usually I carry another phone but in summer a bring on beach just the galaxy tab 7
If you plan using it as an extension then I think you already have made your mind.
Sent from my GT-P7310
+1 i will go for 8.9 for it bigger screen
I use my Nokia n9 as a phone, my MacBook air as a laptop, my tab 8.9 as a reference material viewer. I think I wouldn't be happy with a 7" screen, my physics books won't view well.
Then again I can't tell until I try it :-D
make phone call is a good features sd the sd slot
I think I will take the 7 plus (7.7 would be perfect but probably will be out on 2012)
I had a 10.1, but sold it for a 7.0 plus, and highly recommend it. The Exynos is screaming fast compared to the Tegra 2. This is especially obvious while playing video.
Video is truly night and day, I can't believe how lousy the Tegra is for that. The 7+ will play any and all video I threw at it. But dang, the size of the 8.9 is perfect. Hopefully Samsung will give it the upgrade and the best of both worlds.

I am a happy owner of an unrooted 7+ and I have yet to run into a 720p video in any codec or bitrate that the little bastard could not run perfectly smooth. I have no RMVB videos but I can't imagine it will have huge issues but if you send me a link for such a video then I will be happy to test it out for you.
As for the topic of the thread:
I have the 10.1 as well and the Tegra 2 is a travesty. It is a horrid and terrible product which should never have been allowed to be used as the reference chip for Honeycomb. For this reason I went with the 7+. If anyone thinks everyone with a 10.1 is cheerful with a Tegra 2 running then you have not watched the threads prior to the nation wide USA release of the 10.1. Even after the 10.1v was confirmed as using the Tegra 2 we still held out a glimmer of hope for the Exynos 4210 and a MicroSD slot. The 7+ has both of these and I even found it at 350$ with 3.5% sales tax at Microcenter.

Does this issue only happen during video playback or any graphics in general? I thought Tegra 2 is supposed to be very good! :|
I do notice some lag even when using the homescreen in 10.1, din test 7+ enough to tell, after I have tested 10.1 and 8.9, the 7+ seems just too small! And I am worrying about the future support (ICS) for 7+ as it seems the odd tab with that resolution. As with Samsung products, the ones that gets updated are those that are popular, and looking at how thing goes, seems like 10.1/8.9 is (going to be) more popular.
10.1 with the HW accelerated homescreen roms works fairly well unless you want to watch video. Honestly I only want a tablet that can play the stuff on my computer while I lay in bed and the B&N Nook Tablet almost managed it but the 7+ got it down 100%. Holding my 10.1 after using the 7+ was fun though. So huge in comparison.

I feel the exact same way about my (ex) NT. But the locked bootloader killed it for me, and I'm back to the search for the optimal tablet for me. How would you say the 7+'s screen compares to the NT? I really loved that I could sit outside and see everything perfectly on that screen. Would you say it's worth the extra cash and not waiting for the 7.7 (assuming the 7.7 isn't actually $700, as speculated)?

I just returned my NT and picked up the 7+. No regrets at all! I was betting on the 7.7 not being out for a while and being too expensive. so I went ahead and took the plunge. If the 7.7 comes out soon and is reasonably priced, I'll throw the 7+ on eBay, and eat the difference.

Not to be annoying and reiterate my question, but how does the screen compare? More specifically, how does it look outdoors? I really want to buy a replacement tablet, but great visibility in all lighting conditions is a huge factor. Reviews that I've read so far haven't really addressed this, with even some mildly negative comments about the 7+ screen.
It's a gloss screen so I doubt it would be perfect outdoors but it's not horrible in my limited experience. It's a bit darker than the screen in the 8.9 or 10.1 but it doesn't have viewing angle problems it's still a Samsung screen. Just naturally a tad darker at default.
I used to own the 1st Galaxy TAB P1000; it has no problem handling *.MKV files even with size more than 2 GB. Likewise for the 8.9. But for RMVB files it is a challenge. I tried the same files on a IPAD2. It faces the same problem . There are jerkiness . Try to get the files from www.33md.com

[Q] iPhone 5 or the XSP?

Hello,
Does anybody here know or at least suggest me, what should I keep (I already own the iPhone 5 but I can't use it when my parents are not at home) or should I go and buy XSP (there's a discount for this device otherwise I would need to consider about S3 Mini or Xperia M) which I could use at anytime I want? Thanks to everyone who answers!
XSP is heads and shoulders better than XM or S3. And since S3 Mini is a cut-down version of S3, both in size *and* specs, IMHO there is no reason to prefer the alternatives.
You do have to remember that moving to Android means leaving the Apple ecosystem behind. You'll have to repurchase apps, and there might be some games that are not available on Android.

I know but I mean the key features like multitasking, camera, headphone that comes with the phone and so on. I know that some games on iOS aren't on Android (like Infinity Blade 2) but that doesn't matter me much, the only game I play on the phone is Clash of Clans and sometime (rlly rarely) I play Asphalt 8 (which I have purchsed for both Android and iOS, no worry for piracy) so.. I just care for the key features like the rear and the front camera. Both of the phones have 8MP camera rear camera but the exposure is different, is that a big difference between the quality? And like the screen, as I know the iPhone 5 comes with an Retina HD display and XSP with TFT HD display but with BE2/X-Reality so I don't which is better
Pretty much everything is better on the iPhone 5. It has better multitask, camera, comes with better headphones, has better hardware performances. As an XSP user, I can't think of a feature were the XSP is better than the iPhone 5, there might be some, but the iPhone is mostly better.

But as I know, Android was made for multitaking and for hardware, the XSP haves better processor and the camera is same or am I wrong?
If you want something that just works then the iPhone 5 is better.
If you want something you can play around with ROMs and have more control over the phone then the Xperia SP is better.
My preference is Xperia SP, I dont mind the iPhone as a device but its restrictions annoy me.

Android is made for multitasking, however, due to how newer apps are build, devices require more than 1GB to run smoothly. Sadly, the SP just has 1GB of RAM, which makes it slow at times. The processor is good, but the one on the iPhone 5 is the same, if not better. And no, the camera, while 8mpx, works better on the iPhone.

Ok but the iPhone still have only 1Gig RAM... Even some newer devices, even iPhone 5s didn't came with 2Gig RAM and for the headphones, both phone and headphone are using 3,5mm jack so... I can only think of the S5 and Z2(...?) to have 2Gig RAM so...

Can You post me some comparison pictures taken w/ the iPhone and the XSP? It would be really helpful.
Ok guys, looks like I'm more undecided now, can some1 do a +/- features for both phones (like comparing them). It would be great! Thanks! :highfive:
Edit1 : It would be even better, if any1 could suggest me a phone which I can play with the /system and do a normal work/sometime playing Clash Of Clans and Asphalt 8 and for music listening at the same time. I thought that the XSP can do it but it looks like it can't
Xperia SP:
+Design
+Loud speaker
+Bigger Screen
+Unique ilumination bar
+Runs a more "open" OS, Android (and outdated one)
-Camera
-Low RAM
-Materials used feels cheap at times
-Bad screen quality
Iphone 5:
+Design
+More apps
+More updates in the future (it will at least get two more mayor iOS updates)
+Premium build quality
+Better cameraS with slow-mo video (I'm not sure if it's the 5 and 5s or just the 5s)
+Better screen quality
+Better multitasking (iOS is more optimized for multitasking nowadays in my opinion, as iPhone 5 almost never lags).
-No unique feautres
-Speaker quality is okay.
+/- iOS is not as open as Android, but it's a beatiful design nevertheless.
This is what I can think of.

I can't post comparison pictures right now but there have been a lot of complaints about the XSP camera.
Some users are also experiencing some issues like blurring and extremely poor low light pictures.
If you need a good camera, dont get the XSP.
I don't think these issues are only with my device.
The phone is amazing in other aspects like hardware but if the camera is important, take a comparison from someone else has both the phones!
I'm sorry I can't put up pictures because I'm waiting at the airport
Good luck!
The camera on the SP is REALLY bad, the lenses even get scratched super easily, that's why people get blurry/overexposed pictures. If it's your priority, the more reasons to go for iPhone.

I see no difference in Gaming (from the Note 2 to Note 4)

Was testing Asphalt 8 today, and noticed that gameplay was more or less the same as it was in the Note 2. Seems like we're reaching a plateau in the world of mobile technology.

Isn't Asphalt 8 locked at 30fps?
Anyway, youve got all those extra pixels to render with the Note 4,it will stress the CPU/GPU more. I believe Annandtechs tests showed that running the S805 with a 2k screen gave similar performance to running the S800 with a 1080screen.
I forgot to think from that perspective. Seems like the game is locked at 30fps. I really see no use of those extra pixels and thus unnecessary battery drain though I've achieved over 3 days with the standard battery.

There's only going to be more pixels, wait for 4k phones at the end of this year!
4K on a small screen is crippling when think in terms of battery drain. Wonder what the future of battery technology will bring to the table.

I feel you. I've also upgraded from note 2 (which is now with my wife). Really, other than a better scree/ pixel density, I don't see much in the Note 4. May thinner profile/ better build quality. I still feel that the camera is downgraded (except for the fact that the note 4 has better control over spherical aberration). I really miss the macro mode in the note 4. Gaming, as you already mentioned, isn't any different.
I see the camera at fault as well. Not defective, but in low-light, tends to get grainy without the flash. Perhaps I haven't taken enough low-light pictures w/o flash with my Note 2 to notice this. For outdoors, the HDR modes works great with the Note 4; I do like the ability to enhance the photo, edit, and get creative. Software, there are some things I miss, especially Quick Glance, and features in the Galaxy S4, which I never got to experience, not that those software features are gimmicky.

Asphalt 8 is not locked at 30fps, the note 4 Exynos during game gives around 60fps while Snapdragon 45fps.
The Note 3 Snapdragon is around 30fps.
You can test the FPS whit the app "Gamebench". It needs root.

LOL. :silly: I was just basing this on various articles I came across on Google, can't confirm real world value, unless I perform the diagnostics. Though Antutu does mention my overall score to be 49,888. My Note 2 only reached 18,000. Seems odd that the real world performance difference is subtle. Forget gaming, my Note 4 does feel a lot smoother and I can keep more apps running in the background compared to the Note 2.

dude Note 2 with mali 400 can play almost every game around 30fps @720p but Note driving x4 the amount of pixels which needs a lot of power + adreno drivers sucks and games always run better on non adreno GPUs like mali , Powervr
anyway i don't think any android game support 1440p or even 1080p natively they are just get up scaled i think which is just wasting of gpu/cpu power if android allows user to change the res of the game like windows that would be great

Why I will never upgrade to the Note 5

The Note 5 will never have AOSP because Samsung isnt releasing the Exynos code. So you'll always be doomed to slow touchwiz.
Note 5 going through the recent tabs, stuttering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33pqdsdEqqc&feature=youtu.be&t=31
Note 4 on Marshmellow/CM13, going through the recent tabs, damn fluently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMFGahR-Nr8
That's how Touchwiz ruins beautiful hardware. Who cares about benchmarks, it's all about user experience. And that just s*cks with Touchwiz.

Can you shoot a video ? I used this app, it's really simple: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hecorat.screenrecorder.free
Just put it at 60 hz because that's your screens refresh rate (otherwise it will introduce recording stuttering). Thanks !

Then maybe YOU can shoot that video ? Somehow people here state how fluid the Note4 exynos on Touchwiz it is but dont want to actually show it.
It takes literally only a few minutes of your time.
Thanks.

Or, wait, you are on a snapdragon according to your sig ? In that case, you must be joking. It's even WAY worse than the Note 5 when running touchwiz.
Thanks.

my note edge is snapdragon and yes there is just no scrolling lag in recents but there was in 5.0. btw i believe you are understanding that video wrong there is no stutter in recents but there is sttuter in apps like twitter and i can say scrolling in s6 edge is bad aswell but somehow note 4 scrolling is pretty smooth i just have no idea how. again stutter isnt in recents but in apps.

I'm downloading touchwiz 5.1.1 right now and will shoot a video myself then. I'm sure it's horribly stuttering too. That's just what touchwiz does.

Yup will upload it soon; had to switch batteries.
EDIT: Cannot record anything without making everything stutter like crazy. So recording the screen isn't going to show how smooth it really is.

do it since im on mobile data and man no1 really cares you gonna buy note5 or not lol. i wont either unless my company buys me a free one snapdragon was dead this year and if it will be dead next year aswell no1 will care how bad touchwiz is and just go for exynos again. record a video for multitasking aswell if you want i can confirm s6 edge and note5 sucks in multitasking and cm note4 will blow them. so it will be good motivation for yourself also and you can pass note6 too maybe.
about note5 and s6:
apps stutter:YES
Multitasking sucks:YES
Themes make phone laggy:YES
recent apps lag:NOPE

It just pisses me off somewhat. I mean all that beautiful hardware Samsung puts in their phones. Probably the best out there. And then they ruin everything with Touchwiz ... It's sad.

In which ways are the apps laggy? (edit: noticed you said themes so ignore this) Cannot say I notice any "lag" apart from the occasional stutter on my n910c (wanamlite's rom and googy_anas' 2.0 kernel (default settings (gentle_fair_sleepers off))). Have you checked the Profile GPU rendering graphs? I usually see stutters in most apps when loading content in the background when scrolling, but should be pretty smooth (60fps) almost 99% of the time. No wonder the scrolling is so slow on iOS.

The screen recording app makes the phone stutter like crazy so I cannot shoot a video that would show off how smooth it really is. Maybe that's why the note 5 appears to lag in the video? I can use an external camera to shoot me scrolling through my opened apps, but wouldn't want to bother. But if you require proof I'll be happy to provide it.

I must stand corrected ! I just installed TW 5.1.1 on my note 4 (I hadnt even bothered, yes I hate touchwiz THAT much). And you were right, the recent app screen is WAY better than in 5.0. Maybe the recent apps will be better for the Note 5 then when Samsung releases 6.0 for them.

that's why they keep losing every year ...
not like S3 when it came everone loved samsung
they keep ruining everything ..
I'm using n910c there is no lag what so ever.
Once you have used the Note 5 for awhile & go back to the Note 4 it does feel antiquated both software & hardware.
Don't get me wrong I have note 4 N910C & it's great but to use, feel & look at the Note 5 has it beat.
SD card aside, I never changed batteries, get the Note 5 & you won't want to go back.
Have the Note 4 and went looking for a Note 5 64. Couldn't find one and I wasn't going to be stuck with 32.
I got the S6 edge+
The Note is an excellent phone. However, the more I pick up and put down the edge+ the more I understand how wide the gap is with the illusion of quality.
The edge is a beautiful phone, and feels really special in the hand. The Note 4 is more comfortable to hold and use. I carry them both, and mostly reach for the Note to do anything worky. It's just more reliable. And the removable battery and expandable memory makes is a lot more useful.
I find myself reaching for the edge more and more. It's smooth, it's beautiful, there's something there that's not um tangible. I'm beginning to make excuses to use it - I feel far more special afterward than I do with the Note.
I can see how, if one had the 5, it would be difficult to reach for the 4.
The materials actually DO change completely, how you relate to the phone.
The thing is - the Note 4 remains far more functional, far more reliable, far more efficient, and itself, is beautifully constructed.
Where the edge is sophisticated, the Note has class.
Does that make sense?

Lag when viewing 60 fps video 1080p

When recording a video in 60fps 1080p.
The preview of the video is lagging terribly, i hadn't noticed this before.
The output video is fine but the preview is about 10 fps
P20 Pro
c782
L09
110
Haven't made any major changes.
Yeah, I've just noticed it too. It's a horrible glitchy mess when recording. Tbh I'm massively disappointed in this phone. I use 60fps a lot (the kids do lots of sport) and my old S7 had none of this. The lack of AOD notifications (other than SMS and calls), the not that great battery life, the terrible Bluetooth call quality, the occasional stuttering when scrolling and the shear mad size and weight of the phone means it's going. I've had enough.

Can i just ask, are you rooted? Running any mods? Anything they may have an impact ?
I am. rooted and my wife isn't and hers is flawless, not only that but my phone is also perfect at 60fps video when it was pure stock.. I just don't like stock.
Not sure what to do but I'm about to install 131, I'm assuming it'll probably fix it.
No, it's totally stock, the stuttering nightmare that it is. Worst of all though is the Bluetooth call quality on any connection (car, earpiece, headphones). Hideous to the point of unusable. I'm having to revert to using the loudspeaker (I often use my PC while talking). It's also a flipping brick of a phone. So much heavier than it needs to be.
The only thing I can think is that it I used the PhoneClone app on initial setup to pull a lot of my apps and data from an S7 to the P20 Pro. Maybe this causes issues but I've not seen anything anywhere.
BTW, nice avatar. I'm a season ticket holder.

Are you referring to the camera in 60fps?
I know that most people don't have an issue, I wanted to hear from people who do
It is due to a software problem. Cause when you lower the screen resolution to 720p. If you turn on smart resolution or the hd+ resolution the problem fades. Someone kindly point this out to Huawei. My model no EML-AL00 P20 i brought from china
