Class 4 or 6 memory card - experiencing stutter with class 4 - Galaxy Camera Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my fantastic new galaxy camera from john lewis - ITS AWSOME
It came installed with 4.1.2 so straight away could play
Question however I have put in the camera my class 4 32gb sandisk memory card and notice I get occasional stutters between shots or when im reviewing can take a little time
Question is a class 6 Samsung 32gb card going to stop the stutter
The camera is smooth as silk when im going between screens etc but I have noticed a little slow down during
picture taking and review ..
I love the Samsung remote view software its awesome and it works perfect on my phone
the picture on my phone is a little pixelated but when I take the shot I can view the pic on my camera and also mobile and its perfect
I am well impressed and cant get out in the snow tomorrow
Thanks in advance
Chris

Any suggestions ?

In theory, the faster the better but having said that, I noticed a micro stutter or two AFTER I updated to 4.1.2 with the same card in place. So it may not necessarily be anything to do with the card you have.

Ive ordered a class 6 Samsung card as I needed one anyway as my wife was peeded off at me because I nicked hers from her mobile.
I ordered a 32gb one and am hoping a samsung brand will work with a samsung camera .

Hello @mancuk29, was the class 6 micro SD better? I don't know wich one to buy.
Thanks

Don't waste time and money on a class 4 or 6 Micro SD card.
You need a Class 10 minimum for recording full HD video or that won't work and you won't get any stutter or lag from a 10 as the write speed is high enough for the 13MP or above to write the picture to the memory card.
You can spend more money on the Samsung ultra card but they are more for higher transfer of bigger files i.e. 1GB or above on a laptop or Chromebook. As the GC is using fat32 file system, it won't support transfer of files over 1GB in size. You would need to use NTFS file system for that. But as a photo won't (or never should be) over 1GB in size, then a normal Class 10 Micro SD card will suffice.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Memory card for galaxy note

I want to buy a 32gb memory card for my galaxy note. I want to know which class memory card should I buy. I am getting 32gb sandisk class4 card @1.9k and 32gb sandisk class 6 @3.9k. What benefits will i get with a class 6 card. please help !!!
You'll just be able to dump content faster to the card with a higher class.
by class 6 you must mean the new sandisk ultra series (red color cards).
if you gonna use your card mainly for storing apps and other such random access stuff go for class 2/4.
if its for HD video recording, large file transfers, etc (sequential read/write) go for class 6/10.
btw, for HD video playback even class 2/4 is sufficient. although there is an advantage for HD recording when going for higher classes.
also, if you meant the class 6 sandisk ultra, most of the reviews as well as users say that its much faster than most of the class 10 disks in the market, including class 10 sandisks.

Thanks for ur reply. Yes the class 6 card is the Red Mobile Ultra one. I wanted to know what kind of problems I may face with a class 4 card while 1080P video recording and is class 6 really worth almost double the price?
I went for a class 10 and it seems alright. Not overly impressed with the speeds though. But no issues with HD recording.

If you are shooting 720p or higher videos with lower class, you may experience stuttering in the video as the card isn't rated for high throughput data transfers. I'm not saying that it will happen every time, but that is the reason you should go for higher class cards if that is your main purpose. Higher class cards have higher sequential write speeds, which is what you need for saving pictures more quickly and for recording HD video. Lower class cards have much higher random access speeds, which are needed for someone who uses lots of apps.
so if you store all apps internally and keep the external card only for multimedia, you could blindly go for class 6/10. you get very fast data transfers also (PC to Note).
this class 6 mobile ultra is very new. it could actually be a good compromise between class 4 and 10. but don't worry too much. just stick to sandisk
you can also check this one. looks good and priced well for a class 10.

imho class 4 is enough for u to store mkv video file, it's for me.
Guyz I have decided for Sandisk class 6 card. But now the problem is as I see. sandisk 32gb class 6 @ 50$ and sandisk 64gb class 6 @ 111$. Out of these 2 which one do you recommend. THanks in advance !!!
If you can afford it then obviously the 64GB is better, but i would get a UHS-I if i were you.

Haven't got my Note yet, my question is regarding internal memory vs lower class external interm of speed as you said lower class will have stuttering and slow in saving pictures. What if I use my internal storage as the main temporary storage for taking HD video and picture, would it stutter like you mention?
Then when I'm done recording, I just transfer the recorded HD video to my external card. Would that make scene?
I want to use my internal memory as a temporary storage and will move my data to external card when doing house keeping. Would clearing internal storage enhance overall phone speed performance?

Help me to choose a Memory card

Hiya guys,
I have been looking forward to buy a memory card of 32 GB. I have found out that there are various memory cards available of different classes. The least one is Class 4 which is the cheapest and Class 10 is the most expensive. I am not sure about the difference between the two.
I would like to know which Class memory card should be fine for the Galaxy Note ? Class 4 will work or I should choose Class 10 memory card ?
Please help me with this...
that would be the read speed.. the higher the better..
most say class 4 is plenty fast for just about everything..some say class 10 would work better if you're trying to watch say a very large video from your sdcard..
personally i think a class 4 or 6 would be enough.
I'm Using Sandisk 32GB Class 4 Memory Card.I Think It Is Best & Enough For My Galaxy Note.
Thanks guys...
I have checked the reviews on Amazon and gone through some of the threads available on this forum. I'm sure Class 4 would work for my requirements. I will choose one..
Thanks again...

I'd recommend the SanDisk MobileMate series, think they're class 4 or 6, good value and excellent stability, as well as speed. Worth a look.

I use class 10 card because they have a better read/write time as an class 4 Card.
Currently using SanDisk 32GB class 4.
The speed is good enough for me.
Lexar 32 GB Class 10. One of the cheapest and fastest.

It's worth reading up on transfer speeds versus read/writes for small files versus larger files. If you're only reading/writing large files then class 10s are what you're looking for.
If you're needing it for installing and rilunning apps or other collections of small files then class 4s will have better performance.
I've also read up that samsung are about to release some new standards with much higher data transfer rates, I'm not sure the note will make full use of them, but they'll be quick transers:

Mine is a Sandisk 32 Gb Class 2, I'm one of the suckers who bought the first time a 32Gb MicroSD got released and payed double the current price..
But it is good enough, I can play large movies up to 3+Gb
**while you're at it, you might want to consider buying 64Gb MicroSDXC instead. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330784
For listening to music or viewing films, classes 4 or 6 are ok (even class 2 from a good manufacturer like SanDisk).
It's when copying large music libraries or films that you appreciate having a class 10 card. And if you intend to use your GN for viewing lots of films, then you'll have to carry copy operations quite often...

[Q] 32Gb external memory card problem (Hot + battery drain)

Hi all,
I have a Sandisk 32Gb micro SD HC (Class 4). <--- not sure if this competible with the NOTE. anyways, the problem I have as below.
Why I am looking problem into my sd card is that since I used my 32Gb card on my NOTE, my note seems getting hot when I use the files inside my card and the battery drain hella fast.
Case 1) I played a rmvb file format movie. Before I run it, my battery was like 90%, after it played like only 30 mins, it dropped to 70%. is it normal?!?! And at the same time, the back of my note is very hot, I believe it's of the memory card,
Case 2) When I move apps to SD, no matter one app or many apps having the same problem. which is my phone will get very hot, then restart itself, after restart, the singal is gone randomly.
Conclusion, is Galaxy NOTE compatible with the SD card I mentioned above?
sorry for my poor English.

Well.. It had nothing to do with the memory card.. I'm using the same 32GB scandisk.. I had no issues at all.. Try factory reset or do a full wipe.. If all else fails.. Samsung service center is you best bet.

I already did reset factory settings + erase sd card two times. I also brought my Note to Samsung, they gave my NOTE a new secondary motherboard which I donno what it is anyways. I still had the battery drain & hot back cover this morning while watching movies through memory card.

What kernel also rmvb might not be supported in codecs for hw accel so it might be eating cpu to run your vid and it will drain a bit of battery.
I donno about kernel thing. My Galaxy Note is still stock 2.3.6 without root. I am using MoboPlayer for rmvb playing. Just did another 30 mins playing, another around 20% battery is gone and the back of my NOTE is hot while playing.

Have you tried copying the movie to internal SD, removing the card, and playing the movie from internal memory?
If you still get the same behaviour then its more likely to be your phone heating up generally than anything else.
Mine gets quite warm when I have the WiFi on and am streaming video across my home network. Wifi + CPU/GPU intensive activities = heating, just like on any other device!
Also, try MX Player. Just in case its Mobo that is causing your problems.

I had MX Player before but I uninstalled it as it cant play my rmvb files.
about "note getting hot after new sd with tons of files":
this is due to the media server app indexing all your new files!
for example the gallery app creates a thumbnail of every picture on your SD!!!
this is as well the reason for high battery drain and a "hot" feeling (high cpu load while indexing) after a new rom flash...
if this persists over a few days (usually after a few hours the indexing is done) THEN you have a problem!
Class 4 read writes is very slow same as class 2. I switched mine to class 6 and never gets hot or affects battery as fast

So, are you saying sd card reading speed slow will cause more battery usage and getting hot?
I got class 4 bcoz it's popular and easier to get. also I was told class 4 is enough for mobile
last night I walked by some computer stores and saw a new SD card (not sure if it new) Sandisk Mobile Ultra 32Gb (Class 6). Well, I donno if this is a good replacement to my current card - Sandisk 32Gb micro SD HC (Class 4).
The Sandisk Mobile Ultra 32Gb (Class 6) is about US$34.00
Should I change? Or just not much worth, and just save the money.

I have the 64gb version of this card running on my note, I got it online from best buy for about $79 us (found it through heads up in galaxy note forums) . It has been an excellent card. I am a big fan of SanDisk they are quality cards and always perform at or better than their advertised specifications.. I'm not sure if it would be worth upgrading from a class 4 32gb to a 6 32gb unless you have another device to re purpose the old card. The performance difference is noticeable and might be worth it for shooting video etc.

So, is your 64Gb card Sandisk Mobile Ultra Class 6? It's abit expensive to me. I do have another old phone with 16Gb card already, not worth to replace with my old 32Gb card becoz I don't use thse phone much.
Sigh...Tough choice...
Thanks...
I was starting to panic. I ordered the Samsung 64 GB micro SD card just because I figured Samsung and Samsung would work together. It's been just over a day and my Note 3 was getting extremely hot. I initially thought about it permanently hurting the battery or the heat reeking havoc on my mother board or other internal parts. But it's seems to be cooling down as of this morning. I think the indexing is all done. If it starts again, I'll be looking for you though.

To give a little more info, you'll pay a lot more for class 10.
Benefits of class 10 are improved wrote speeds over large files, say hi movies etc.
For smaller files that performance is compromised by lesser smaller file transfers such as general info files, docs, apk's etc.
Final story, go for class 4 or 6, for mobile use, you'll have faster access and read times on general files, and slower transfer rates on large movies, and so it'll take a while to copy a movie, but your daily usage will improve about 20 percent.

I will get class 10. But thats my choice so anybody pls dont get angry with me

it depend what you need .. if capacity that you looking and 16GB is not enough then grab the 32GB even with class 4 coz far that i used that class 4 (original one and i don't want to mention the brand here) i don't feel any drop perfomance in daily use ( I can say this coz i compare with my 16GB class 10 that i had)..but yes is lil longer when try to transfer data from or to PC as our friend mention above
..and if you really want the high capacity with high speed while transfer data or watch the big size movie example .. try to looking the Ultra micro SDHC 32GB class 10 on store or online market .. and be ready to grab a deep pocket i guess

64gb Micro sd card

I ran out of space on my T-mobile Samsung Note 2 so i want to upgrade my 16gb to a 64gb micro sd card.I know Sandisk is the best brand however i have seen 64gb micro sd card on ebay non branded for 30 dollars .Please explain do i need a class 10 for movies and songs mp3? Will a class 6 be sufficient? what are advantages on a mobile phone for a class 10 sd card? I know i have to formart card to FAT 32. how do i test card speed and determine if it is really 64gb ? Thank you
A 64gb card should be exfat I believe. I would go with the Ultra 64gb class 10 UHS-1 like this one
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-micro...R&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1355163815&sr=1-1
That's gonna be the fastest one you can get, and will be the best one to have if you ever feel the need to use the ExtSd2InternalSd mod. I would strongly advise against using no name brands with these.
From my knowledge class 6 is what you need for hd video every thing else is less demanding. That being said class 10 will transfer faster. Fat32 only allows file sizes less than 4 gb. As far as knowning if you actually get a 64 gb card you have to put it in phone/computer and it should say something around 60 gb after formating.

It is advised to use a computer, but if you format with the phone, I believe I have read that it formats it to exfat. I believe that to be true because I used the mod to "swap" my internal and external memory using the mod for exfat and it worked wonderfully.

You don't need a class 10. If the phone's hardware can use it, you'll get faster transfer speeds. I believe the GN2 does. Even if it doesn't, it'll be fine. Class 10 is more for photographers for high speed burst shooting.
You don't need to do FAT32. Yes, it's true there is a 4GB file limitation. If you bounce from Windows and OSX with attaching your phone, then you'll need it. fatEX isn't fully supported on both yet.
I formatted mine in the phone. I had it in a Evo 4G prior. I believe the phone formats to NTSF because TWRP had issues with card until I updated, which was a known issue for NTFS.
I talked to a Samsung rep last night, and they said 64GB Class 10 formatted to FAT32 is what they recommend. They also said it can be formatted in the phone.
Don't have my Note II yet so I can't confirm what they said.
normally i say speed depends on what you want to use the phone for.
HD footage is normally up to 20mbps, which is around 3mb/s or so, so you'll want at least a class 4 card. if you want to take photos while filming, go up 2 classes per photo/second.
if you want to snap more photos per second directly to your microSD card, you'll want at least a class 10 as some photos can be 3mb, so a class 10 card will only allow you to snap around 3 photos per second. the sandisk cards can go faster than standard class 10 speeds so they'll let you snap more shots per second.

FAT32 limits your filesizes you can put on it though, usually recommended for 32gb and less cards. I have my card formatted for exfat and it works fine.
