Best settings to take clear picture of the moon - Galaxy Camera Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my digital slr I have manual focus and shutter speed to take cracking pics of the moon but can't work out how to do the same with the gc
I either greet a circle of white light or it goes out of focus
Has anyone mastered it ?
I have managed a sort of decent shot but not as good as I would like using the 21 zoom .. the attached taken with sunset mode
Thanks in advance

use expert mode and set shutter speed to somewhere around 1/60 or 1/80
my clearest moon picture was with iso 100, aperture 5.9, and shutter speed 1/77 according to the gallery.
edit: i should add that it was with a full moon, for a crescent moon auto works fine.
edit 2: added cropped photo.

Perfect thanks just need a clear night again !
Thanks

[Q] HDR off/on? difference?

Playing with the camera and can't really find any difference in quality. The hdr picture size is smaller but that's all the difference if you ask me.. What do you think, guys? Not impressed with that camera. Love this phone anyway))

I have done some sample pictures today, uploaded to another thread here
HDR mode let the camera to take few pics at different exposures, then combining then in one pic that is balanced. Not so bright not so dark.
If u want to test it your self, go outside in a sunny day and while standing in a shade take few pics fouced at bright things or things under a shade.
HDR is very handy if u have a dark spots and a very bright source in a single scene.

Your Favorite/Best Camera Settings?

Mine is currently set to Auto @ 9.6mp Widescreen.
I'm not the best at photo taking but I get good shots with this set up. Does anyone have a favorite setting they always use?

I don't take a ton of pics, but I leave mine on 9.6 widescreen as well. The only setting I change is to turn off smart stabilization and flash. The stabilization enhancement benefit does not justify the additional image processing time. I find myself needing to take several shots in a row and the image processing with stabilization enabled is really frustrating. Otherwise the quality of the note3 camera seems basically the same as my Note2, which is to say it is decent
Set to 13mp and turn off burst shot mode and stabalazation.

Not that Im a camera or photo guy but I found that ISO = 100 takes the best shots...then I use snapseed auto adjustment..

Camera zoom fx/third party camera apps

I've read some really good reviews for the camera zoom fx app, has anyone used this on their Z1 or similar camera apps from the play store.
The stock app is so hit and miss and although it can produce some great quality pictures, sometimes having to fiddle around with manual settings etc. can prevent capturing precious moments.

I have tried all (decent) camera apps out there, camera fx, camera pro, fv5, motorola camera, kitkat camera and so on... all of them are worse than stock, I mean you can tweak some settings exposure stuff like that (on some of them) but the stock camera in high lights captures the best shots of all camera apps (and 95% better than manual too), when it's cloudy or lights aren't high switch to manual, no setting, no scene, no hdr, no steady shot, nothing. If the picture is too exposed I suggest to use the native resolution 20mp 4:3 which result in a bit darker photo. In low lights, or night ... ATM forget about that I'm unable (unless maybe you have patience and a tripod) to capture nice shots.
When you use the stock camera in auto please keep an eye on bottom right and before each shot check if it detects the correct scene, if not change angle if you don't want then switch to manual (with settings said before). Remember that we don't have OIS (optical image stabilizer) but a software one, which IMHO currently is a lie, so keep your hands steady as a brick.
Probably wait and see what the 4.3 update will bring to the camera before even spending money on buying anything.

I found the LG camera app to be excellent. It's taking some great shots on my Z1. Mind you, I'm no photo expert so I could be wrong but I just did a compare with some 20mp shots on the manual mode with stock cam and the 20mp shots with the LG app. Found the LG app much better as I can't be bothered with tweaking settings. Most shots I take need to be completed within 2-3 secs. I also tried FXcameraZoom and wasn't too happy with it.

So more often than not you just use superier auto unless it's dark then you go for manual?

Tried that one too, I didn't see any substantial difference
after several tests Pro Capture is my favourite camera app
faster, more precise and better focus than stock
special support for Xperia Z1 (optimized algorithm and 16/9 wide 20MPX)
better auto mode performance than stock superior auto
macro have more sharp details
sometimes I use stock camera because it can handle ISO level and if I have a lot of light I can set ISO 50 and reduce the exposure to obtein perfect panorama images

[Q] 4.4 and HDR

Okay, I did search to see if there were comments on this.
4.4 screwed up my HDR. HDR video is only slightly affected but HDR photos are normally worthless. It is no good for shots with truly bright areas. A sunny sky goes from blue to near white. Clouds disappear totally in a haze of white. Doing a factory reset helped somewhat but only a bit. Now if I only took pics at dusk and at night and never had light sources in the picture it might be fine but it´s not the case.
Has anyone else noticed this since their upgrades?
Attached you'll find a sample comparison (plus the original but renamed files).
It been that way since the 1st day i had it. We all know One is not really great in daylight.. easiest way to fix it is by select a low ISO (100 - 200) and choose a focus subject , then lock ae/af (long press subject/area when focus) and choose the hdr. Profit.
But it still not great as HOX hdr in daylight. But acceptable for me.

Well, it used to be much better for me, quite nice in fact. I can't modify any settings with HDR. HDR ignores ISO and exposure settings, it will only focus.

Shutter Speed Issue...

When I set my shutter speed in manual mode to anything between 2.5 and 4 seconds (for long exposures) it seems that my camera draws MUCH more light and makes the screen and picture almost completely white. I have verified that the flash is off. I am new to long exposure photography and I know a phone isn't the best device for it, but I have seen a few reviews which mentioned it on this phone and thought I'd give it a try. Is anyone else noticing this? I am testing it in my office and the screen is almost a solid white. Thank you in advance

Long exposure shots are usually used at night when it's not as bright. Pictures of the night sky where you can see the star trails, or the pictures of cars on the highway with the headlights as a streak are examples of long exposure. Using long exposure when the is enough light for a normal picture will cause it to look washed out (overexposed) try the long exposure shot outside at night. If you have kids give them sparklers. It's a cool way to have fun with the family and get some really cool pictures.

No problem. My girlfriend has a cannon rebel t3i so we have taken a few long exposure shots. Very cool but kinda tricky. We have always used a tripod to hold the camera.
