It's integrated in S4pro chip, just like N4 and OG

Thanks noxlord !
Bad news for us then ...
@lokenok Thanks Mr Obvious.

In s4pro really good DAC but quiet. So question whether there are additional amplifiers.

This is SONY we're talking about... they always paid lots of attention to their devices' Walkman feature so i'm sure they won't screw this one up.

I seriously hope the DAC is good..although there is always the root tweaks

If the DAC is not good, tweaks won't help. But I'm also confident that Sony did their work great.

NOTE 1 has a bad DAC but with tweaks it sounds great!

The HTC One s was loud and that has a S4 chip, I have also listened to the Nexus 4 and the audio is very good, also xperia T is good but just needs to be a bit louder

Yeah, sound is said to be really good on N4, but really low too.
I hope Sony techies will amplify the sound. I'd really love to use good IEMs on this device.

My local three store had a xperia z today (was very surprised at this actually) had over and hours play with it love everything about it and the audio is very good, it is more than loud enough. I also played with the nexus 4 again and the Z is louder not that the nexus 4 is low in volume.

Nothing short of amazing, I was amazed by the screens on the Xperis S & T this one is a whole new league and plus its the first 1080p screen I have seen. It is just amazing and totally cannot wait to get mine on feb 28th or march 1st.

@dibdin There's already an interesting screen topic in Q&A. Let's keep it about the sound here.
@RWSAMHTC Thanks for your input ! Which kind of headphones did you try it with ? Do you know their impedance ?

I tried it with my urbeats in ear headsets. I tried 15 different types of songs from bashment, reggae, rnb etc. I mostly like bass and loudness and the xperia z did very well I am very please with it. Loudness in headphones was always my main issue, now I dont need to worry about that. I also tried the loudspeaker it was loud enough not the loudest of speakers but loud enough. couldnt try any phone calls though. Also test camera and video and video audio quality which on my one x and sgs3/gn2 wasnt the greatest atall. Very impressed with the z really. Atm the only think i think it needs is a blocking mode for calls and texts.

OK great to hear [no pun intended] that the sound is 'LOUD'..Other aspects like the bass and all can be tweaked..i was hoping that i wont have to carry an amplifier.

I played around with different equalizer settings, really impressed with bass and the loudness

Odp: [Q] Xperia Z's Audio DAC ?
So the loudness of a speaker is comparable due to Xperia T?

Loud speaker seems louder than the T, the Ts loudspeaker was just poor imo.

Xperia Z Volume

Hello, I have an Xperia Z for like 3 weeks now, and i was wondering if this was normal, the sound of my Xperia Z is not that high, I can hear it, but not as much as i thought it would be, I mean through speakers by the way, not through Headset, Also Yes: i have already raised above safe volume but still it is not very loud...
And no, i am really not an that much asking person, but this is really not normal i think, is this an common problem?
I had an Xperia Arc before the Z by the way, So i am used to the sound level of Xperia Arc
PS: I am new, Hello! this is my first post!
PPS: I live in The Netherlands so i dont know if there is any difference between Sound levels per country, so you know

no the speaker is ****ty, unless you unlock your bootloader and install doom kernel to raise the volume to a decent level.
Go into dev section and install purest under by zero, it is one Hugh problem with XZ but after you install it you will have to turn volume down

Xperia V (Sound Problem)

Now i'm very disappointed of Xperia V sound for listening music because when i played with Walkman Player, sound are not stable. When i taste with Clear Bass +8 or +10, sound output is low volume with not stable. Sometime sound volume was increase level but sometime decrease with not stable for listening. Original Walkman Player 4.1.2 on Xperia V is very lousy with not look like My Old Xperia Neo. Why ???? When i used Sony Ericssion Xperia Neo, Everythings r very good & taste with Clear Bass +8db or +10db, sound
is very good taste for feeling. Now i changed Neo to Xperia V, very disappointed for listening for songs of music. And then cannot use Xperia Neo headphone on Xperia V.
How can i do Xperia Neo sound quality on Xperia V??? I don't like sound for listen my new Xperia V.

I have the V, too.
If you give so much bass to the sound, it is no wonder the system will try best to limit the volume for preventing damage to the tiny speaker, the headphone or your ears. Especially in conjunction with a cheap headphone that might be quite annoying, yep. If you like bass then buy headphones that deliver bass without the need for pumping it up artificially.
Thanks Bro! do u know how to stop limit volume for preventing damage to the tiny speaker?? i don't want to need limit the volume for clear bass.
It's depend on limit from system or headphone bro?? i like more my old xperia neo headphone but V is not support for Neo.
Thanks

Acid Audio: Good all-in-one-package. Very popular. But some say, it's a little unstable. (And I'm not quite sure if this one worked for me )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2177709
Viper Audio: Lots of settings, but more a convoler. Some say it sounds a little unnatural, others love it.
Btw I recommend xHiFi version, it's better imo. ^^
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
PureXAudio: Clearest sound of them all. Also has a great bass! Using this one myself.
Make sure to only flash the lite version, as the full one only supports Xperia Z!

The Sp Audio Loadness

Hello Guys
I want to get the SP , but I heard from some reviews that it have a very low audio volume when using headphones , is that true? and if it is true how low is it, I'm taking the subway everyday to work and I'm afraid that I won't hear my music , I don't care about the loudspeakers I'm setting my phones to vibration anyway. thanks
Its loud on headset but a noun for the ear.
Maybe the end of the test jis helpful.

But u can change

yes I saw the gsmarena test but it says on the description the sound when pluging a headphone is pretty low
hmmm , I guess I'll look for something else , too lame that sony is one of the leading companies in Audio products but they can't make a phone with proper audio quality .
I like the sp so much it looks good perform good but something little as sound volume can mess it up.
No complaints here. I use headphones while running and I use etymotics while on the motorcycle (in a helmet). I'm no audiophile and it sounds just great to me. Clean and crisp.

Thanks for replying , but what do u think about the loudness , is it enough or its low?
The standard headset that comes with the SP just sucks, plug in your average headphones and there is nothing to complain about..
Thanks a lot guys
the sound is awesome, like others have said the standard earphones suck terribly. i use my sp with a surround system in my room and it sounds just as good as my mac or iPod which have magnificent audio. the built in speaker is LOUD much louder than an iPhone or s4 and theres minimal distortion at max volume

[Q] Is it possible to port Digital Noise Cancellation from z2??

We know that one of the goodie from Z2 is that it has a special audio technology that are captable to reduce noise in some way
but is it hardware or software stuff?? i see mods that port Z2 audio stuff to other devices, does the noise reduction part really works??
or it is software but contain some bulls*** like X-reality and photo quality enhancement that make it impossible to port to other devices??
any idea guys??
(i'm not requesting for a mod or something, just interested to know what it is)

If you're talking about the Digital Noice Cancelling it's implemented to the Z2 and need specific headset.
Each earphone in the Sony MDR-NC31EM headset has outward-facing microphone. The two mikes pick up background noise and send it for processing to the Xperia Z2.
Following this, a signal processor inverts the noise's phase by creating an anti-noise wave. This gets mixed with the audio that is being played on the phone.

I don't think so, this technology is not included in the Xperia Z1 so that wont work even with proper headset.
I think that it needs to be confirmed. I'll try getting my hands on the Z2 headset and putting mixer_paths from the Z2. That might work if it's not buried deeper in the Z2 software.
I don't think that I'll get my hands on the Z2 headset before it gets released though.

All is possible ...
Oh this thread is gettng old lol
thanks you guys for answering XD
I'm thinking that the only possible hardware problem on Z1 is the audio jack?
maybe the audio jack on z2 contains an audio-in part for background noise so it can process for the noise??
are the audio jack for z1 and z2 really different in terms of hardware??
if it's same... i think it's logically port-able to z1 maybe?? (probably need some work on kernel... oh well)
just saying XD

I may say something stupid but you said that a SIGNAL PROCESSOR inverts the noise's phrase. My question is why we cannot "emulate" this processor at our main processor?

If the signal processor is a chip it wont be pretty possible to be port for standard cpu, (or Sony wont need that chip)
I'm not saying it's impossible, this is XDA and genius here are good at porting
just hope it's software (run by the standard processor) stuff so it may be easier
Guys, a signal processor via software would be slower and cpu intense... =(

You should care, because it would drain lot of battery power, and phone would heat up easily.

I believe our cpu can handle the extra stuff within 1Ghz
If there's sound processing chip, it will heat up and drain battery anyway (logically
Sound processing chip is specialized for that kind of work, as our snapdragon 800 are not.
If z2 use some kind of sound processor it has speed around few mhz, but they have almost zero latency and lag.
It's hard to explain for me on English, but I study that right now on my college.
It can be done, but chanse that will work good is close to nothing if it is hardware based feature.

so can someone tell if Z2 really got a special chip
or just the regular s801?

Only Sony know does Z1 have separate sound chipset or not. But I think it use Qualcomm's sound chipset and 801 does not have much difference from 800 (only OC some things) so I think/hope Digital Noise Cancellation will be ported to Z1.

Ya i know Z1 dont have the chipset but i'm not sure if Z2 do
if Z2 doesnt have any chip either, we have a good news
still, there might be problem with the audio jack /_\
I was reading around Internet but didn't find answer.
Only thing that I found is that headphones have 2 mics which record audio from surrounding and send to Xperia Z2 for digital sound processing (didnt claim hardware or software), and then xperia z2 do the job of noise cancelation.
Also, that will not work on any other phone so far as Sony says.

I really hope someone who love doing drop test and break the phone just to show how rich he is will try to open the case of a Z2 and show us what's inside actually

Xperia Z audio

Hi guys, two weeks ago i bought my Xperia Z and i have to say that every single thing on that phone is amazing except one....the loudspeaker is really low! What can i do in order to increase the sound level produced by the loudspeaker? Does this Xaudio really work so good for the loudspeaker? The earphones' experience is amazing though!
Thanks in advance!
