[Q] HTC One Speaker Orientation - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so let's say i'm watching a video in landscape but i decide to rotate the phone 180 degrees during playback. the video will rotate to accommodate the new orientation but i wonder if the speakers will rotate as well.
exmaple:
an F-22 raptor flying across the screen from left to right would be mismatched with audio that's going from right to left.
anyone that's had their hands on the unit notice if this is the case or not?

I don't think that will be a problem. Audio should align to the screen orientation
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2

one would think that is indeed the case. i really really hope htc didnt overlook this detail. .. not a deal breaker but it would be annoying, not to mention how embarrassing it would be when showcasing the phone against an apple fanboy or worse, someone who'll have a sgs4. =]

I just tested it with this video and it adjusts the stereo sound.
It's not as fast as the screen though, so it's 1-2 secs delayed.

I just got my AT&T HTC One. I tested the same video and my sound does not change when rotated.
The bottom speaker is always the right channel, in YouTube at least, - in that sound test.
Is something wrong with my HTC One?

Just an FYI, and perhaps unrelated, but I got my Nexus 7 (2013 model) tonight, and it DOES properly adjust the speaker channels when you flip it, instantly. So the HTC One is just bugged in this regard. Very odd it hasn't been fixed.

Other users of other Android manufacturers aren't WORSE than Apple Fanbois. We're all in it together, they just have different taste for the same thing (Android.)

chill out, if the context was taken correctly you'd realize that it wasn't about fellow android users but instead about htc vs samsung. this IS a hardware discussion after all. i was pointing out that someone who had a gs4 might be able exploit this flaw in an otherwise awesome phone.

hey guys,
since this is the new device
it would be an honor if you can post all of the problems that related with One

These issues are documented if you look around dude
but for this thread
some had speaker problems.
while playing back video footage noticed a hissing.
some batterys crap.
some cameras maybe crap
bare in mind though these phones were first batches its not unusual.
Mine was a first batch phone and had a screen that flickered and the top left of the screen wasn't flush... the power button was VERY smooth with the device too which made it extremely difficult to use.
I've had no problems with mine except when plating music at maximum through the headphones, it will occasionally sound briefly distorted. That's not exactly specific to just this phone though.

The power button is supposed to be like that because it would look ugly if the power button was sticking out too much.

Bluetooth and speakerphone switch off
My AT&T version definitely has a problem with both Bluetooth and speakerphone modes switching to handset mode during calls. I am not even touching the phone so no fat fingering. Oddly the A2DP works fine because I stream audio through a Jabra Cruiser 2 to my car stereo using the FM transmitter and this never drops. The Bluetooth connection is still active when the call goes to handset mode, I could hang up using the Jabra but just don't get call audio through it after a few minutes. This is a pain while driving, anyone else experience it?

Nubs

So here I have my 304k phone, and seeing the nipples on it, I thought there was some use. However, when I place it on a desk, the speaker gets muffled incredibly and I can barely hear anything out of the speaker. Anybody getting this?

You can't hear anything after placing the phone on your desk because the speaker is on the back of the phone. Flip it around and you'll hear just fine.

Pretty certain they are so the glass isn't in direct contact w/ the surface so it doesn't get easily scratched and not purpose built for the speaker.

I've seen on many websites that the nipples are for raising the glass so the speaker doesn't get muffled, and I'm pretty sure that when the glass isn't in direct contact speakers should be better.
Now I need to hold my phone when I watch YouTube >.<

Did you also notice how small these nubs are. If the intent was for speaker enhancement, I would think they would have made them bigger. I would consider trying to locate a case with a kickstand if you watch YouTube often.
Ummm, lay the phone on the screen so that the speaker doesn't get covered?
And don't say that will scratch the screen! A case or bumper can easily remedy that! If the back speaker bothers you that much, get the HTC One with the front facing speakers!
Ok guys let it go.

You use crystal glass table put your phone screen down, then you plug in headphones and stick it with duck tape to very sensitive stereo mic which is plugged to high quality amp and speakers, lay down under the table and enjoy :silly:

I think the nubs are there so the back won't be in direct contact with the surface of anything that may cause a sudden temperature change and break the back glass.

That means that every HTC phone released after their deal won't have Beats Audio. That means HTC ONE MAX won't have Beats Audio...and that means that our HTC ONE might go down as the only greatest phone made by HTC with Beats.

+1. He's right, it means nothing. They sold the rest of their ownership stake in the company, that's all. It doesn't even mean that Beats won't be on the devices necessarily, just that they don't own a piece of the action anymore.
It may not mean a lot to us but there are many people that buy HTC devices just because of beats. It's sad but it's the truth. Think of it like this: compare a team that is not sponsored to a team with a sponsor.

It may make some of the aspects of songs sound better through the speakers, but the others, notably the mids, it certainly makes worse. If you want truly great sound, you'll never find it with beats. Try something like ViPER4Android.
HTC is the best in mobile sound with the ONE. Hard to argue otherwise. The company may have there own technology in line for future phones. Maby better than beats. I personally think beats are over priced compared to some competition they have.

Block speaker sound out.

Not sure if this deserves a separate thread, but just noticed that if i completely block the actual speaker (one on the side) with my finger the sound ends or (or seems to end up) coming out from the earpiece instead. If this is intentional, that is SO cool, can anyone verify?
How is it cool? I hate it especially when playing a game lol
Sent from my Nexus 5
I don't think this is the case. Once the bottom left speaker holes are blocked the music just radiates from the phone in general, not one specific point like the ear piece speaker. Maybe the headphone jack adds to what you're hearing?
NX5
Not intentional. You're just hearing it resonate throughout the phone, as jbdan said.
Not sure how it would detect such an event, but it wouldn't be such a bad idea to reroute audio to the earpiece speaker if the bottom speaker is blocked. Sometimes my bottom speaker gets blocked if the phone sits at just the right angle in my tylt charger, I'm afraid I won't hear my alarm one of these days.

I wouldn't purposefully block the speaker. The speaker in our device is pretty cheap, and I'm sure the added pressure from blocking the holes might damage it, and decrease the sound quality even more.

Blocking the speaker grill holes is not going to do any damage to anything
My "flip it over" comment earlier was serious. If you flip it over it places the speaker on the top left and you are less likely to block it. There was a tongue-in-cheek thread about this a while ago, but despite all the silly comments it is the easiest way to solve the blocked speaker problem.
I don't get why everyone says the speaker is bad. It's as good if not better than my nexus 4 was. That was about on par with my note 1. Do you guys expect boom sound or something?
