[ROM] GingerDX | v031c | 11-Sep-2013 - Galaxy Ace S5830i Android Development

GingerDX
Intro
This project is a continuation of doixanh's personal ROM, known as GingerDX.
("Ginger" as in "Gingerbread", and "DX" as in short for "doixanh")
Brought to you by TeamFun:
eagleeyetom, djnilse and AChep.
I (GermainZ) am building GingerDX based on bieltv.3's latest sources, with permission from both TeamFun and bieltv.3.
(You can find the original GingerDX for the X8 here)
As set in stone by doixanh, the main goal is to have a fast, smooth and lightweight CM7 based ROM with some special features.
Before we begin:
Code:
package gingerdx;
import disclaimer;
public class GingerDXDisclaimer extends Disclaimer {
/**
* Your warranty is now likely void.
*
* We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* spontaneous combustion, or any other host of cosmic penalties
* which may befall you, your family, or your phone.
*
*/
public GingerDXDisclaimer(){
warranty.set(0);
}
}
GingerDX now even has its own IRC channel!
If you feel like chatting with each other or hanging out with us:

NOTE: Before you click the link to get to FreeNode's webchat or fire up your IRC clients:
The developers are NOT your personal support helpdesk nor root of endless knowledge.

Project sources and licenses
Our source code repository at GitHub (for GingerDX v023 onwards)
Sources forked from Cyanogenmod are published under the terms of the Apache License 2.0
Code contributions and binary distributions are published under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2
NOTE: "Soft-Modders aka. WinZipers" are exempt from the licensing terms above. You are now NOT allowed to use the pre-built ROM, or any parts thereof, in any way, shape, or form. If you want to join in development to help advancing the ROM, or want to port it to other devices, then please drop us a PM or contact us at our IRC channel.
doixanh's source repository at GitHub (for GingerDX up to v022)
Sources and binary distribution of GingerDX up to v022 are published under license terms set forth by doixanh.
Install Instructions
Install a CM compatible kernel (hell_lock's or Rafael.Baugis' kernels; tested with hell_lock's first kernel (first post) and Rafael.Baugis' test CM7 kernel)
Download GDX, as well as the CM7 Basic kernel and (optional) GApps;
Copy the files to your SD card;
Reboot to CWM;
Install the CM7 Basic kernel;
Wipe data, cache and dalvik-cache;
Install GDX;
Flash GAPPS (* If the GAPPS aren't installed correctly, mount /system before flashing the package);
Reboot & enjoy!
Themes
NOTE: We are not responsible for system instabilities caused by themes
GingerDX natively supports T-Mobile themes. You can find other themes in the list of available T-Mobile themes in XDA Android's theme sticky.
Download the theme of your choice onto your phone and use Theme Chooser (included in GingerDX) to select theme.
Notice
Very important. Read all before posting questions!
1. This ROM is based on doixanh's personal ROM and continued in the same philosophy to keep it as lightweight as possible. You can report bugs in this thread and suggest additions, but understand we're not obligated to fix or include them. We'll fix what is needed, and we'll include what makes sense.
2. We are NOT responsible for any bugs caused by custom-made fixes/additions/tweaks. You use them at your own risk and responsibility!
3. Regarding the copyright branding at the bottom in Lockscreen: We will NOT remove them nor provide any option to disable them. Don't PM/Post to ask for the removal or nag otherwise.
4. If you have battery drain, try the following:
Clear battery stats in recovery.
Freeze unused services (like Email, DSP Manager, Maps). This is important.
Turn OFF 'Allow mock locations'.
Don't set brightness too high.
Don't install too many unused apps.
Turn OFF WiFi, 2G, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth when not in use.
Reboot after you listen to music. Music service caused battery drain (in the past).
5. If you still have battery drain after following Step 4, try:
Full wipe in recovery, re-install GingerDX.
Use Stock ROM for several days to see if the battery problem is caused by GingerDX or not.
If it doesn't drain, try installing one of your apps, test battery for a day, install another one, and test.
and so on...
That way you will know what's the cause of your battery drain.

Re: [ROM] GingerDX | v031| 09-03-2013
There's no boot animation, so you might not be stuck (the Samsung Galaxy Ace I will stay there till the ROM fully boots).
If you are indeed stuck, try resetting data and formatting cache / dalvik cache in CWM before installing.
Also, a logcat would be useful.

Also try mounting system before installing. The updater-script takes care of that, but just in case.
BTW, if it flashes really fast (e.g. 5-10 seconds), restart CWM and flash again. That's a known CWM bug, it means it didn't flash correctly.
It usually takes 20-30s to flash.

- mounted everything
- flashed GingerDX
- checked mounts again (is it the mistake? mount everything AFTER flash?)
- reboot
- stucked @bootlogo for 4-5 mins
Now im gonna try again
///
Now im cofused... same thing last night. It booted, but im still on stock rom?!
-> Back to CWM, wiped the stuff you've said, mounted /system, flashed GingerDX -> stuck @ bootlogo

I help JasonStein compiling the kernel from source
Thx for your support
don't forget to download wifi drivers :
https://github.com/freexperia/vendor_ti_wlan
then to compile : HOST_PLATFORM=msm KERNEL_DIR=~/android/sources ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=/home/bhe/android/system/prebuilt/linux-x86/toolchain/arm-eabi-4.4.0/bin/arm-eabi- make
change path for kernel sources and toolchain
you have to do it twice, somewhere in ap directory and somewhere in sta directory
you will need wifi modules matching your compiled kernel version

O.K. guys here comes our first ICS customer rom.
This will be a coproduction with eybee, Chrack, nobnut and me.
Pls, pls dont forget it, this is an open customer rom beta from the first leak of ICS [email protected] Galaxy Note.
If you dont make a fullwipe after the ics flash, so pls wait for the official ICS Rom by Samsung.
Note, from Android v2.3.6 to v4.0.3 its a huge step.
You have to make a fullwipe after the flash!
If you set all you like, pls reboot...
to-do and known issues:
fc = stock video editor
Swype still in English only (pls. dont update it!!!)
User feedbacks via Vids:
Special thX to batista70
How To get Root on ICS:
If you are already on Chinese ICS Stock ROM or any Custom ROM based on Chinese ICS, then first test if you are fully rooted. You can test that with Root Explorer by trying to copy/paste any file you have on your SD Card to you /system - if this copy/paste will be successful, you are already rooted properly.
If this test fails --> you are not on a proper rooted Chinese ICS ROM now!!! So follow each and every step from Reb0rn here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22877518&postcount=182
or from Chris X. here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22843343&postcount=1259
After that you will definately have FULL ROOT!!
Installation Instructions for v1.5:
After you have checked being on a proper rooted Chinese ICS (see point above!), do the following steps:
If you are not already on a proper rooted Team Rocket ROM v1.4, so pls make a fullwipe (Factory Reset) before your flash the v1.4, then flash the v1.4 and after this make a fullwipe again!!! If you will not do that, you will have serious trouble!!!! Reboot your device afterwards and setup your Google Account! (If you are already on a proper rooted v1.4, you do not have to do that and can directly go to point 2.)
After that boot back in Recovery and flash v1.5 without Wiping anything
Reboot your System
Now you have a fully working v1.5, bloody fast and ready for daily USE!
If you have trouble with this instructions so you can take a look to this other way:
...or this way:

We want to say thank you for it @ underlines and Ash!

Notes:
Our team works in parallel with Windows and Linux. So we have better chances to create a build. (I'm working with Linux.)
Yesterday I've been looking for apktool.jar to decomile/compile of ICS 4.0.3-*.apk's. Thats really important for us.
I found only a solution for *.jar Files but nobnut got it. Thank you so much, for spent your time!
Now we can both. Decompile *.apk files and *.jar files for ICS 4.0.3.
Warning!
Dont use the app "Superuser Update Fixer" e.g. for an update of "SuperUser" or dont update SuperUser via market!
We had already integrated a working app "SuperUser". (v3.0.7)
Pls use this "old" version and dont update to the newest.
There are known issues with Android v4.0.3.
It seems its not the fault from the RocketRomTeam.
btw if you have a backup (e.g. about Titanium Backup) of the newest SuperUser and/or SuperUser Update Fixer, dont restore it!
What is SuperUser?
explained quickly and easily:
This app manage the root rights.
If any app need root rights, so SuperUser asks you at least once to consent.
I know, you can disable this "asks" but I dont recommend it. For me its one of the best ways to find out, have I root or not, need this app root or not.

Is this a mash up of the working parts from both leaked ROMs combined into one? I've held off installing any of the current releases in the hope (or eventuality) that such a ROM is created by the talented guys of the community ;-)

Thanks a lot Chris, I will test it after your upload.
Now I'm on chinese leak, got some problems with random sod and usb not working in osx; problems also with wifi at 5ghz
Would be nice, not to generate another "Thank You" or "when is it up" thread with up to 200 pages. Makes more sense to hit the "Thanks" button.

As long as it has a properly functioning CWMR, I'm happy. Everything else can (and will) be fixed in time.
great.. hopefully one more kernel dev is joining so we can have a full team of great dev.. if ask by chris im sure abyss will join too..

[PORT][ROM] GingerDX v29 (08/10/2012)

GingerDX
Now under new management
Im only the Porter of the Rom, the real Devs are TeamFun
Intro
Let's continue the fun!
This project is a continuation of doixanh's personal ROM, known as GingerDX.
("Ginger" as in "Gingerbread", and "DX" as in short for "doixanh")
Brought to you to Galaxy Mini by DQiB
As set in stone by doixanh, the main goal is to have a fast, smooth and lightweight CM7 based ROM with some special features.
Before we begin:
Code:
package gingerdx;
import disclaimer;
public class GingerDXDisclaimer extends Disclaimer {
/**
* Your warranty is now likely void.
*
* We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* spontaneous combustion, or any other host of cosmic penalties
* which may befall you, your family, or your phone.
*
*/
public GingerDXDisclaimer(){
warranty.set(0);
}
}
GingerDX now even has its own IRC channel!
If you feel like chatting with each other or hanging out with us:

Turn OFF LED Succession.
Reboot after you listen to music. Music service caused battery drain (in the past).
Generally, doixanh and me usually get 2-3 days out of a charge (give or take depending on usage).

[ROM][JB][17 FEB] MIUIv4 3.2.8 for Unlocked ICS bootloader (unofficial)

Presenting MIUIv4 Jellybean (4.1.2) 3.2.8 for the new bootloader (unofficial)
Read this post entirely before using the ROM or asking any questions!
Firstly, I want to thank Ricardo for all his work on CM for our phone. Since this ROM uses CM10 as base, it would not be possible without RC's work.
This ROM has been ported to the O2x from various other devices having official MIUI support (such as the Nexus S, Atrix etc.) and the MIUI team deserves credit for all of that.
This would not be possible without pengus77 and the other devs who brought CM10 to the new bootloader. His thread is here
Details of the ROM:
For use with NEW unlocked ICS bootloader only, tested with CWM recovery 6.0.1.5
Multilanguage support (refer post #2)
Does not come with gapps, you need to flash it separately
Screenshots:
(Theme applied below is 'Dark knight HD' by remcis, so thanks to him)
Screenshots attached below the post again in case you cannot see these

Tips on using the ROM:
To charge normally (fast), turn off phone, plug charger, wait for a minute (till the charging animation goes off and phone is off again) and turn on phone. Now it will charge fast. This is the standard procedure for all JB ROMs. If you dont follow this, charging will be slow.
You need to turn auto-brightness off if the LED notification lights stay on even with screen is off!
Camera:
If you are not satisfied with the quality and performance of the stock camera app, use the bundled 'ICS Camera', or an app like 'Camera360 Ultimate' (free app from the play store). It will produce better quality images.
If you get a clicking sound when starting and closing camera, dont worry, read this
Superuser:
Before installing anything, first activate root permission from 'LBE Guard' app in 'Security Center' folder. Select 'manage root permission' and enable it.
This only needs to be done once, and all superuser prompts will come as usual when you install/use root apps.
If you installed or tried to use any root apps before doing this, and your app no longer gets root access, reinstall that app. Also includes a custom hosts file, which you have the option to remove if you want to see ads.
Battery:
To see percentage battery indicator on the status bar, go to settings->battery and change the battery indicator style
Performance:
To make the UI transitions faster, you can use the good old standard tip:
Go to settings->developer options
Set 'window animation scale', 'transition animation scale' and 'animator duration scale' all to "0.5x". UI animations will seem twice as fast after doing this.
If the ROM becomes slow over time, do a reboot.
And try not to do a lot of stuff in the first few seconds when SD card scanning is going on, sync is going on or when apps are updating in the background. Its not right to complain of "this/that doesnt work" or lag when you do that

Instructions:

Standard disclaimer:
I am not responsible if anything goes wrong with your phone.
If someone has posted a bug and you have the same bug, just thank their post or wait. No need to flood with the same bug reports.
Small problems such as some app related problems can be dealt with at a later stage.
Known issues:
Stock clock widget on default theme may not work sometimes. Works with any other theme (you can change only widget's theme too, without changing full theme)
Unable to change ringtone? Use this fix

2. Boot into the ROM and complete the setup in English, till the homescreen appears

Contains 100% supercharged version (with supercharged services.jar and init script) already configured, and baked into the ROM

Enjoy your supercharged phone and dont forget to thank the devs who made this possible
3) MIUI control panel for 2.10.26 (including app drawer addon)
This is andy thomson's "extended settings" or control panel to allow further customization. Has various settings such as clock location change,carrier options, overscroll options, changing color of anything on the status bar, app drawer etc.
Check the attached screenshot where the clock position has been set to centre, and carrier, clock and battery indicator colors have been changed (i know its not a good color combo, but this is just for demo ) using this.
How to enable app drawer from MIUI control app (instructions by gh.rohit)
Go to MIUI Control Panel:
1. Go to "App drawer Options"
2. Select your pull down Location preference
3. Click "Auto Start" to "On"
4. Enable it, press back key button ( Do not close app from task killer )
5. Go to any screen and click ~just below~ (aprox 1mm) the statusbar at your chosen location and hold until a new pulldown appears
Instructions:
Flash in recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot
Due to low RAM, the jb control panel/app drawer process may get killed off, thus the app drawer may disappear. To prevent this, you can make the app bulletproof using the V6 supercharger (after you installed it from the previous post)
Download link
Link to andy thomson's thread is here.
4) DPI changer by tonyp
Also very useful for people who have used PA for a long time, and used to smaller dpi.
(It is not per-app based like in PA, but still very good)
Link to tonyp's post where you can download this:

All credit to him, I just tested it with this ROM and it works fine. You can set grid size as 4x5 in launcher settings.
To make the UI transitions faster, you can use the good old standard tip:
Go to settings->developer options
Set 'window animation scale', 'transition animation scale' and 'animator duration scale' all to "0.5x". UI animations will seem twice as fast after doing this
Changelog:

I can assume this is based on latest cm-10-20121224-NIGHTLY?
Ans: I found my answer on the CM10 thead, Merry Christmas Edition is based on 24Dec nightly.
Will you make a custom kernel for CM10(.1) that works on new bootloader?
Anyway, awesome job mate. I'll try it for sure. Loved MIUI. :good:
Whats about battery drain is it still present?

Thanks everyone
The ROM base is a self compiled build from source on 24th with fixes by pengus77 to make it boot in the new boot loader. The multi language pack will be released today, and the kernel with ram hack may follow later.
Pdroid will also be included then later.
So enjoy and dont forget to thank Pengus for making this possible

This kernel will be compatible with pengus77 cm10?
Multilanguage version uploaded. Read the instructions in post #2 before flashing.
Now working on the kernel. Will support CM10, MIUIv4 and other new bootloader ROMs based on CM10 (not 10.1 for now)
Hi all, Is the fast charging method a workaround right?
Coming soon
What language that include in multi-language version perhaps it not include the language that someone need so they don't need to download it.

[ROM] GingerDX | v031b | Compiled From Source #1 | 11-04-2013

GingerDX
Now under new management Hello Tass users, I do not own this device. I got this for an hour so i compiled GingerDX.
Intro
Let's continue the fun!
This project is a continuation of doixanh's personal ROM, known as GingerDX.
("Ginger" as in "Gingerbread", and "DX" as in short for "doixanh")
Brought to you by TeamFun:
eagleeyetom, djnilse and AChep.
As set in stone by doixanh, the main goal is to have a fast, smooth and lightweight CM7 based ROM with some special features.
Before we begin:
Code:
package gingerdx;
import disclaimer;
public class GingerDXDisclaimer extends Disclaimer {
/**

*/
public GingerDXDisclaimer(){
warranty.set(0);
}
}
GingerDX now even has its own IRC channel!
