Really neat stuff. works perfectly!

I was wondering if it is possible to completely disable quick launch in a similar way? I have a droid 4 with a physical keyboard that is running jellybean so the regular quick launch menu isn't available to disable it. I followed your directions and I am able to open quick launch with the terminal, but I can't set the preset shortcuts to nothing, I can only select another app. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

can't find any way to deselect things, sorry.
wanted to add though that another way of accessing quick launch is using nova launcher, some other launchers would allow it too. long-press on home screen > short cuts > activities > expand "settings" > QuickLaunchSettings

Ok, thanks a lot. The problem I was having was that while texting with the physical keyboard it would randomly open up the phone app and start typing whatever I was typing into the contact search and subsequently calling people before I realized what was happening. I assumed this was a problem with the quick launch selecting the contacts app and causing problems for me. I really don't know how the quick launch was being activated in the first place though as the only "search" button I have that activates the quick search is located on the face of the phone and I know I am not pressing it. Do you know of any other methods of activating quick launch which a physical keyboard or if there is a glitch with a phone that was upgraded from ICS to Jellybean?
Thanks again,
Foxgirl17

Try rebooting your phone

I used to have the same problem when I was running the stock ROM. Occasionally while using the physical keyboard, the phone would start jumping to random programs. The problem wasn't consistent, but was easily solved by rebooting the phone. I haven't had the issue since switching to AVATAR ROM. Must have been a bug in the stock software.

[Guide] UAString

Hey Guys,
Just wanted to make a quick guide on how to change the UAString.
This of course will enable you to default to the desktop view over the mobile view like i know you all want to.
Step 1.
Open up the browser, type into the URL bar "about:debug" and press enter.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note:
After entering about:debug the URL will default back to the URL of the page you are on but there are now extra options available to use in the menu.
Step 2.
Now open up the menu in the top right and click on settings.
Step 3.
Now you are in the settings menu head on down to debug and then click on UAString.
Step 4.
Here is the list of available UAStrings I personally use desktop(it will make all websites think you are on a desktop computer so no more mobile website by defualt)
Step 5.
Now to get out of debug mode, back out of the settings menu and enter "about:debug" in the URL bar and press enter.
Step 6.
Now to quickly check to make sure you have correctly exited debug just click on the menu icon and make sure you have the normal control set again.
Now head out into the interwebz and enjoy not defaulting to mobile sites
Nicely done with the Screens! +1
This post should be added to the a complete guide when its made
Thank You!!! This was driving me NUTS!!
You Da Man!!
Thanks mate. Does this setting stick across sessions or does it reset back to normal when you exit? Will try it when I get home.
I read somewhere that the Xoom needed a hacked framework to make the change permanent.

Seems to stick. I closed the browser in the settings==>applications menu and it was still in desktop mode. Ill try and find the details about the Xoom issue and see ifit is reproducable on the tab.
works for me also thanks alot
thanks for the instructions
but unfortunately this doesn't work reliable. some websites still detect the device as a non-desktop device, e.g. www.bild.de, and forward to their respective mobile-sites. don't know why.
but for the most of the sites, it works perfectly.
How did you get the "Labs" options in your browser settings? I can't seem to have it on mine.
For me the debug mode doesn't persist between sessions. The UA change is saved, but I have to go into debug mode every time the browser is started. So I set my homepage to about:debug and have to press enter on the address bar each session.
Tried this on Engadget and Facebook.
"interesting" thing: with about:debug i set my uastring to froyo-n1 (or whatever the last entry is called), then the browser crashed. now everytime i enter about:debug, the browser crashes immedialtely. cannot revert this setting anymore. already did a reboot - no success. don't wanna do a factory reset.
do you have any hints on this?
Try clearing data and cache from settings==>applications==>MANAGE APPLICATIONS menu.

I honestly feel we should start email campaigns to the bigger websites to get them to identify this Android version as desktop to save us from this constant issue.
Ever since android was flash enabled , and many sites went over to HTML for the douchepad I see no reason to continue to I.D Android for teeny mobile versions.
It SHOULD always be an option in reverse. As in you can opt in to mobile browsing.
Oh and USatring never seems to stick for too long.
Yer try ipad uastring it seems to override a lot of issues, also dolphin and opera do uastring a lot better
Also because of RIM there is still a huge requirement for mobile sites to be defaulted as it's a b*tch to opt into mobile view on such tiny screens.
And with ice cream sandwich we will loss out again on the same privileges the ipad is getting
But the real simple fix would for web devs to make m.domain.region to be mobile and domain.region to be full content
Anyway we don't live in a perfect world, and if we did XDA would be a little pointless. But I love finding fixs more then i hate finding problems

Well I just hope this is not just another Start menu replacement that you already have installed in your Windows Phone. Well it be great if you have another alternative that you can play with..
Here's "Start", yes, that's how simple the application name was.
So what's in this application?
It's a Start menu replacement
You can add your quick lunch application
Intuitive search function
Able to run application
And it's fast
It's a Start menu replacement because I got bored with the native one, scrolling down on the list, or even having a jump function still makes me feel bored.. So I made my own. Don't you like having a 4 column, big icons as a start menu? Well I do
So here's a short video demo of the application
Tap the text on the top-right "JWMD Apps" to see more information
SUPPORT
Windows Phone 7, Mango, Tango. 7.8
TAKE NOTE
THIS MAY NOT WORK ON OTHER ROMS. Am sorry but I couldn't do anything about that. One reason I can think of why will not work is because Application folder, or the Install folder is hidden. Kind of stupid reason but I have already flash 2 different ROMs in my Mozart and 1 reason the application fail is because those folder I mentioned were hidden. so .. sorry.

This looks great! Question though: For those of us who have 7.8, what is the use of this other than the search bar? And is it fast enough on the device to be a seamless replacement? I'll try it out later today when I have WiFi, and if it works without slowing down, I would be very happy

I use 7.8 too and I don't use search bar often (I never really use it), I used to tap on those quick jump letters.
If we talk about "seamless replacement" then no because what's on the start menu list in WP has already loaded in the memory right after you boot your device and it's not like an application that you can just terminate using back button.
You got to know that this is an application. It reads all the installed application just about 2 sec to show the main UI and another couple of seconds to read the icons from the cache. Once you run the application again, you'll have the same duration. Although there's a hidden stuff in my code where it uses a cache list of the applications installed, and the purpose of that is to make the loading faster (not implemented though because it's buggy).
Tried this out today, it works well, and is not too slow. The All Programs screen is absolutely more informative than the default start screen, and it allows you to see much more at a time than the start menu.
Suggested features:
- The ability to reorganize the Start panel.
- A settings menu for options such as adding/removing/renaming/reorganizing panels.
- If that is not possible, perhaps the option to have the Start panel show up on app start instead of the All Programs panel.
Bugs:
- The Results window does not disappear if I don't pick something from it. I tried swiping up and down, as well as left and right.
- Choosing an app, from the screen or search, crashes the app and it returns to the start menu.

Hi NullString. This is very usable application. I am working on similar one, which can group applications (and groups too to tree structure, it is necessary when hundreds apps are installed). Can you try the same? I mean it is not necessary to make two similar application.
Any notes:
1. When I want "pin to start" allready pinned application, program crashes.
2. When I tap to immediatelly last started application, this shows not back. When another one is launched between it, app is showed.
3. You can add "startup" option (after device reset) to your app by creating/deleting link in \windows\startup directory. I am programming launcher to your app in this startup way now (startup link for *.exe can be created by my Phone Commander, but it may be possible to create/delete it for managed dll programmatically).
4. Are you able to make orientation sensor accepted version? Landscape mode is necessary on HTC7Pro. I can also send you simple functions for HTC7Pro cursor keys handling, I am redesign all my programs for keyboard controlling too (also with BT keyboards in future), this is more quickly and comfortable then by touchscreen.
Martin
good work...............
Does this require full unlock or would it work with dev unlock?
rise up! I'm back
doesn't work for me ! i'm on omnia7 devbuild_8862 by septvies. The app loads all the applist and then sneakly crash.

Workaround for OK Google everywhere interfering with capturing video + voice recorder

There appears to be an issue with some LG phones and the recent addition of OK Google everywhere. When OK Google everywhere is enabled, video recording is disabled and an on screen notification appears stating that recording isn't allowed during voice calls.
A user posted in xdabbeb's ROM forum that we needed to disable the OK Google everywhere function to restore video capture. This method definitely works, but I was looking for a better solution.
I did some thinking and came up with a decently elegant solution to the problem. We all know of Tasker's versatility in automation, but I wasn't sure that I could suspend the OK Google everywhere function. Instead, I decided to kill the Google Search application completely because there is no need for the application during video capture.
I set up a very simple profile in Tasker, which is defined by the LG Camera Application. The task was to "Kill App" and I navigated to the blue Google Search application and selected it (does not need root to work). Take note: there is no exit function specified. Save the profile and you're done.
Now, every time the LG Camera is opened, Google Search is killed; which subsequently kills OK Google functionality. This allows the camcorder to function normally with the added bonus of using OK Google everywhere. The only drawback is that you have to manually open the Google Search application to restore functionality. I didn't bother creating an exit task because I didn't want Google Now to open every time I exited the camera app. I did notice on at least one occasion, however, that after some time, the Google Search function reinitialized on its own.
Hope this helps until LG or an enterprising dev bakes in a solution!
Also, this trick works for the stock Voice Recorder as well since this also appears to be suffering the same issue.

Didn't think of using tasker. Nice, man! An exit task would be nice that would restart Google without opening it, but looking through the options I'm not seeing it. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe try using automateit... it has triggers for app status, open or close

That sucks. My video camera works fine with OK google from any screen.

Forgot to mention you could trigger an action when you close the camera app that would open google and then return to home screen immediately after, as fast as our g2s are you'd probably never notice the app opening and going straight to the home screen.... just a thought... I'd try it but I have not updated my gsearch because I use my bt headset to make calls all day while I'm driving and I like the older version of gsearch with a separate voice dialer.

I was bored and used Tasker to create an exit function. What I did was have tasker open the Google Search app and then load Launcher Pro (since that's what I use; there is an LG Home app that probably will function the same). The only caveat to this is that in order to get the Exit task to run, we have to back out of the app instead of hitting the home button. It's a small sacrifice since the exit task runs too quick to notice and restores the google anywhere functionality.

Now, I ready to setup a profile to lock my phone only on homescreen and on a flat place, but it will stay 5s before.

Hi guys, I have a note 8 running Android Pie and could really use some help.
I searched the net and this is the closest to the answer I could find.
I want to change the navigation bar for every app. I am currently able to do this with every app EXCEPT the home screen.
I have created a profile using Variable Set for events:
Variable
%WIN
Value
"Name of app window"
The home screen window name for Touchwiz is "Home screen, Page 1 of 2 Default page"
I have tried using; Home screen, Page 1 of 2 Default page Home, Home screen, Homescreen, Home
None of the above trigger the event / Task.
I have also tried using the application "TouchWiz" as the event trigger. However, TouchWiz is not listed in the applications selection screen. So it can not be selected.
How can I use the home screen as a trigger?

Question Help - trying to remove the last few niggles

Although I am enjoying the phone, there are a few issues that I struggle to get rid of.
The biggest is the lack of update so I can finally add a card to google wallet, but I'm trying to be patient.
1. Other than that, text messages....As explained earlier, it seems the debloat script removed it for some reason. I want to restore it by adding the script changing the 0 to 1, but I don't know what line referes to the message app. Any ideas? There is nothing in the debloat script saying "message" or "sms/mms"
2. Sometimes I accidently swipe right on the lock screen which produces some Chinese slideshow. Any idea how to disable and maybe add something useful to the swipe action?
3. I'm in light mode but still can't get whatsapp messages and the spotify player on the lock screen.
4. Using company portal, the only keyboard I can pick is Chinese Baidu. Company portal splits your phone in Work and Personal. Work is highly restricted and I can't figure out how to install a new keyboard.

}
5. Using the standard launcher; app icons for the company portal (Outlook/Teams etc) keep moving to the last page on my phone (I have 4 pages of icons). Any idea how to lock them in to place?
Thank you!
Regarding your points :
1. Usually it should be com.android.mms , which isn't on the list you're right, but just try it anyway. If not, try "ADBAppControl" for Windows and search it there. It's also simpler to re/debloat using this program anyways. Or you can try to download (or view) the app in the vivo appstore.
2. Search for the vivo app "interactions" (or long press on the homescreen and tap interactions) which has a icon of a black cube > Now, tap on the lower right corner and select "nothing".
3. Go to Settings > Security > More Security Settings > Device and App Notifications and be sure that Whatsapp and/or Spotify is allowed. You can also check on the homescreen, if you long press on the app, and tap on "App Info" > Notifications > and check "Allow Notifications" > Then check all (needed) "Alert Modes"
EDIT: > 4. Install a new Keyboard from the Playstore (lke Swiftkey or Gboard,..) Go to Settings > Apps & Permissions > Permission Management > Permission Tab > Scroll all the way down to "Default App Settings" > Input Method > Your downloaded keyboard. From there you could also replace other default apps.
> 5. There SHOULD be an extra setting in stock launcher settings.. if I remember correctly from my old X70 Pro+. But can't exactly remember, sorry.
Hope this helps somehow.
Thanks for the advice. Might be easier to just download via Vivo store. Can anyone tell me the name or show me the icon?

In the worst case - but I know that‘s not cool - you can reset your phone and all apps will come back, then debloat carefully using ADBAppControl.
