[Q] Low ear speaker volume? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, I've been pretty happy with my Xperia Z until yesterday when I was out and people called me and I couldn't really hear anything they said as the volume was too low in the earphone.
The earphone was / is clean and dry and I have tried different settings and of course max volume etc but it just seems to be too low?
Anyone had any better success with talking or rather listening to people trying to talk to you in traffic or noisy environments?
Surely Sony's flagship phone must let you actually hear what people say when they are calling you?
EDIT: I actually tried the service menu and the tests are pretty loud and very clear compared to calls... so at least the hardware seems to be ABLE to do it's job...

I find the sound quality from the earpiece terrible. It's not only quiet but very muffled and I can't really hear people on the phone even in quiet environments. I'm going to take the phone back because of this!

If you haven't yet, try turning off the Speaker voice enhancement under Call settings. That actually improved the in-call sound quality quite a bit for me.

Hm mine was off but turned it on now to see differences, will have a go tomorrow. Also there is a EQ for calls there as well that I haven't tried yet. I'm hoping that it's just the firmware that needs some extra push as the service menu proves Z can provide some serious quality in the hardware...

Yes the problem still remains no matter what settings you do... I wonder if a rooted phone with a sound mod might increase the volume on the call side...?

Need more volume on your NS? Use this!! :-D

After finding the volume of my Nexus S insufficient I did a bit of digging and stumbled across an app called volume+. After running across several methods to increase the volume that didn't work I was quite skeptical of this one. Much to surprise it works and works well. I now have a much louder speaker on my NS!
I take no credit for this app, as it is something I just happened across.

I need something that can increase the headset volume on my phone.
It's turned all the way up and if I'm somewhere with just a little noise I can barely hear the person. My Nexus One was clear and loud. My Nexus S is clear, but very low.
Awesome. It works decent

Nice I needed this if only this can work on incall volume as well would be crazy good

In call volume would be nice but for be the alert tones being increased is a good improvement for me.
Thanks ive been looking for something like this

If you set it too loud constantly this WILL damage the speaker.
Anyhow though, great app, confused as to why you posted an old 1.4apk, 1.6.2 is out xD
Ok my ringtones are louder when I listen to them in settings but when I receive a call they dont sound ne louder then they were before volume app was added
Awesome !!
This is a great app. I use it. It's only about $1.50 in the Market, so I went ahead and bought it.
I think voodoo might increase headset volume.
This is a life saver! My speaker sucked but now it's great

Hissing Sound

Basically after weeks of messing around with Orange, finally get the phone! Absolutely love it, build is great, no light leeks, no overhang, no dead pixels, nor stuck pixels.... except.....
this hissing sound. I get it with on speakerphone, very bad, a constant hissing and sssshhhing when the other person speaks and also when on speakerphone the whole call becomes broken, on both sides so them speaking is broken, and my voice on their side is broken too. The hissing is so bad the other person can hear the hissing off the speakerphone on my side!
Hissing when i play music, if i put a quiet song on i can hear, not very loud hissing but it is there.
Hissing when i play a game sounds or background music, this seems to be worse, maybe i just notice it more because background music in game is very quiet and smooth so the hissing becomes more apparent.
VERY BAD hissing when i replay videos i have taken. The hissing is very loud when i take a video of a silent room, and replay the video on full volume. The quality of the video is great but the sound is just pure hissing (obvs any voice or sounds made during the video are recorded but its hissing throughout alongside)
What do i do? Do i just go into a carphone warehouse and get it changed? or is it a software problem or will be on every handset until HTC make an update?
As for the rom etc, its stock software no modding as of yet (my first android so i havent done anything clever, i was a devote blackberry man until now )
I dont have this, sounds like there may be a fault there matey . . . id get it changed before you cant.

have you taken a video of a silent room and replayed it on full volume, if you havent yet pal can you test it for me!
looks like i will go and replace it in the next few days, only got it instore other day so got like 26 days to keep swapping until i get a good unit
(i made orange rectify their bs by letting me upgrade instore and them to reverse is and give me my retentions deal on the phone after by editing the upgrade deal hehe)

thanks just wondered if anyone had this problem in the late shipments/batches because i have a fa33vw
If it is a very quiet hiss with a click after all sound stops, it is unavoidable. All phones have it, just don't listen closely enough or else it will bug you forever.

I've noticed the odd random click from my HTC One when I switch the camera on.
Not often though and not every time but when it does it, it's from the left (top) speaker.
No hissing in call. No hissing when the noise cancelling kicks in during calls.
No hissing in recorded video or when the radio goes quiet between people speaking.
I'm amazed at the clarity and presence of the sound from the speakers.
I get a faint hiss when I have headphones in and they're low, barely noticeable though.
well its getting changed! last night found a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen, cant believe it evaded me all this time!!

hmm so is it batch, software or hardware related?
It's either all of the HTC ones in the entire world (I've had 4 all of wildly different batches that all had the problem) or a software issue. I'm beginning to think it's the latter.

Could it be becuase their amplified? ? ?
Beats makes it a lot worse. It's comparable to other android devices without beats on.

boomsound volume levels?

Hello everyone got my silver pre order yesterday...does anyone noticed the boomsound is not as loud?
I mean I have the volume all the way up and I was under impression to be a bit more louder am I missing something are there a setting somewhere I can't seem to find it again I tried putting volume all the way up maybe defect anyone?
It should be deafening, if you put it to your ear
So that's what I'm supposed to do?
;p nah to be honest, if it's no blowing you away then it's faulty! It's hard to explain how loud it should be...
pick a song I'll record it for you so you can hear the sound of mine
I agree with the others, it startled me upon the first startup.
This is probably the first phone that I don't have the volume up to 100% all the time. In contrast, I'm using around 30% volume and still feel its loud..
If you don't feel its loud, go replace it
Yep that's EXACTLY what I was saying I mean it's loud but not like in the youtube review videos that I've seen on the Internet where everybody's keeping it below hundred percent I'm at like a hundred percent and not happyit's definitely not blowing me away its loud though but not blowing me away loud
I find it loud for ringtones and notifications but music and video is not louder than SGS3

Don't compress your mp3 files or video files! Make sure the bitrate is high enough.
I am reading threads that's complaining about how loud the volume is even on the lowest setting yet I find this thread stating that the volume isn't that loud on the highest setting. :/
Kinda contradicting to be honest.
It's honestly too loud.
I was trying to watch a movie last night in bed and it was so loud on 3%!
It all depends on the audio and video files you are playing also. Low quality music is going to sound bad regardless of what device it's playing out of

Best to turn beats off when in a big room or a loud enviroment when using the speakers.
Beats on is great when I'm at home and it's not too noisy as you can really hear the low end.
But to be honest I usually leave beats off unless I'm using headphones.

So now it's the files all I'm saying is on videos I saw on YouTube they all have to lower their volume down I'm like at 100% not as blow me away loud just wondering if anyone experiencing the same
I agree with you. Louder wouldn't hurt.
Louder? When im in my room and i have the sound on the lowest setting im still thinking i'll wake everyone up. That thing is really really loud. Im wishing for a setting with even less sound.
Dude I'm definitely not getting that lol it's just loud like any other gs 3 phone lol

So only in youtube it doesn't sound loud?
Did you try the ringtones? Even thou I did not get my phone yet since it will ship Monday, I was testing the AT&T one they had on demo. Just simply playing Ringtone at the lowest setting was quite audible and didn't want to put it up louder since I was the only customer in the store and there was a bunch of employes standing nearby in proximity to where I was.
Probably be safe to say if the ringtones are not loud either, then it could be problem.

Don't get me wrong, it's loud. It's loud enough. However while streaming music for instance, if it could go up a notch or 2 more, it would be even better imo.
Ok so here is another question boomsound or no boomsound?.is it me or boom sound off it's louder like a bit?
Anyone agree?

The Sp Audio Loadness

Hello Guys
I want to get the SP , but I heard from some reviews that it have a very low audio volume when using headphones , is that true? and if it is true how low is it, I'm taking the subway everyday to work and I'm afraid that I won't hear my music , I don't care about the loudspeakers I'm setting my phones to vibration anyway. thanks
Its loud on headset but a noun for the ear.
Maybe the end of the test jis helpful.

yes I saw the gsmarena test but it says on the description the sound when pluging a headphone is pretty low
hmmm , I guess I'll look for something else , too lame that sony is one of the leading companies in Audio products but they can't make a phone with proper audio quality .
I like the sp so much it looks good perform good but something little as sound volume can mess it up.
No complaints here. I use headphones while running and I use etymotics while on the motorcycle (in a helmet). I'm no audiophile and it sounds just great to me. Clean and crisp.

Thanks for replying , but what do u think about the loudness , is it enough or its low?
The standard headset that comes with the SP just sucks, plug in your average headphones and there is nothing to complain about..
Thanks a lot guys
the sound is awesome, like others have said the standard earphones suck terribly. i use my sp with a surround system in my room and it sounds just as good as my mac or iPod which have magnificent audio. the built in speaker is LOUD much louder than an iPhone or s4 and theres minimal distortion at max volume

Speakerphone (loudness, clarity)

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the HTC 10's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Top volume I find it's very loud, but a little distorted. Drop down one level and it's still loud enough but clarity improves
The speakers are very loud, specially in theater mode, it's perhaps 3x louder and more detailed than an A9
while you don´t matter the ring sound you will be fine
When you hear music is good but not so loud that M8/M9 even M7, IN HEADPHONES ARE VERY VERY GOOD
but if you expect a good ringtone sound...forget it, in this configuration the ringtone only sound the lower speaker ( When the phone rings)
the ring call sounds muffled and very low, same for notifications, alarms and messages
don´t think place a song like ringtone.... this will be sound TERRIBLE
I don't understand how people calling the speaker loud. I find it a bit opposite. While I cannot say the music coming out of the speakers is low (definitely can't call it loudest), the vocals or speech in the youtube videos are definitely not loud at all. I find quite hard time listening to youtube reviews videos in a room with a ceiling fan running. I am using Insertcoin Rom.

it is much louder than other cells but it is my most fav cell phone

Loudness to me seems quite average, but pretty clear and non-distorted. Then again, I don't think I thought the HTC 10 seemed that loud.

It seemed to. I don't know if it was that or something else, but basically I was shocked at how soft the speakers were, then YouTube closed and updated, then I reopened and played music at a decent volume.
Weird huh.
Everybody noticed how top speaker is way to quiet comparing to bottom bass speaker? In Black Player EX to balance the both speakers even I need to lower the bottom speaker to about 15-20% to have them both at about same level.
Volume is average. Not much louder or quieter than most phones I've had in the last few years. It certainly seems clearer though than other phones where their volume is definitely louder. (They tend to distort at high volumes, limitation of physics with space constraint within the phone.)

yes, the top speaker is designed for low frequencies and the bottom for bass, for this the upper speaker never will sound with the same power and for to balance you have to apply more balance setting

Overall I've just found the volume to be a little soft to be marketed as "BoomSound". My girlfriend's iPhone 6 has a louder speaker! And the quality is great, but sometimes sounds... I dunno, hollow? It's a bit like I'm listening through a pipe, or in a concert hall or something.

So many HTC10 users and no one bothers to check in 5 seconds if the top speaker is on purpose much more silent than bottom speaker in playing even a simple stock ringtone
-_-
With standard htc ringtones it seems to be otherwise you claim. Upper speaker gets higher volume. Probably reason is that htc intend to use trebble & whistle like ringtones which use more upper speaker involved in producing sound.

Just the opposite here with music ringtones, Game of Thrones mp3 and 2 others are louder and clearer than any music player including Pandora. And both speakers are being used when phone rings, alarms and messages. So that's not true.
