The Nexus 4 has been selling quite well (at least in Germany) - Nexus 4 General

Just wanted to say im actually surprised i see at least 1 person each day on the subway using the nexus 4, sometimes even 3! out of curiosity i checked saturn's and mediamarkt (two of Germany's biggest stores) and the nexus 4 is on the top sellers on both of them! not bad , huh? with pretty much no advertising at all! guess the defining factor is the great price

That's what I observed aswell (Frankfurt, Germany).
Recently in the queue of KFC there was a guy with a Nexus 4 who actually paid with Google Wallet. I did so, too.
5 of 20 people in my informatics course do own a Nexus 4, 2 have GNexes.
But I think Google has to get better away from this "Dev-only" Image.

The US consumers are generally more resist to changes, relatively more easily to commercial bombardment.
Plus most of them are deep into Apple's ecosystem thus even more difficult to switch to Android.
Thus you see more people using phones that has the most commercial coverage: Apple and Samsung.

There are about 6 people out of 120 in my school year (year 11 = 15/16 years old) who have N4s with a further 2 planning on getting one. By contrast only 2 people have iPhone 5s and surprisingly I think only 2 have GS3s. That's not half bad seeing as I'm in the UK where people are similarly prone to advertising as they are in the US. I see loads of GS3s around outside of school though, and have yet to see anyone using a N4.

i bought mine through the german play store, didnt want to wait until saturn and media markt get them
although ive never seen anyone else having this phone, probably because its only available in hungary for like 2 weeks, and its more expensive than in the play store. shame that google doesnt make the play store available europe-wide, it could be a huge hit.
lets see what the nexus 5 will achieve.

Nexus isn't available here in Ireland so its no surprise that I am the only person that my friends know who has one. I do not regret getting some favours called on to get the phone ordered and speed to me from UK.
But Google should really open the market for their phones in Europe. I want to buy the next nexus phone I get via play store. If may not be the nexus 5 that I get but whichever it is, I want to be able to get it from my own Google account.
The only real reason I can see that it is not available in Ireland is because the play store is not fully available here (is just apps, no music or video). Or at least that is the theory. And if that's correct, I know that is because some old people in offices connected to CD sales can't envisage a world of digital sales (or Apple has some sort of hold there).
Another theory is that nexus phones bypass mobile networks, making it harder for them to screw people into 18month contacts, so they resist the existence of the nexus.
But they can't hold back the shift in demographics forever. Especially now that some CD chain stores cannot stay in business here like they used to.
Also, less people (at least people I know) are willing to be tied on phone network bills now since there has been "problems" with excess charges and double billing highlighted (mostly highlighted due to social media)... And they are more aware that the cost in the long run for a free smartphone negates the freeness.
Didn't mean to go off on a rant there!
Anyway... I wish the nexus 4 was more common here!

It'll most likely be connected to a carrier and I don't get why people want to keep doing that to themselves.
I think they should make one, but off-contract only because it is cheap as it is.

I'm hoping for a release before x-mas, but I don't think it will matter that much who releases first. Apple has a strong customer base, and they'll buy the iPad Mini no matter what. I don't think the N7 really is competing against Apple, it's more against the likes of Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 and 7.7 and other similar devices. The Apple products are in a different league.

Again don't assume that commercial practices are the same everywhere. These strong contracts with carriers for 3G/4G are mainly USA & UK things. I live in Asia and most people only use prepaid short contracts, a week, or a month. If the result is not good or another carrier now propose a better price we just shift to this new carrier. Simple & easy

Anything below £280 will be ok...the Galaxy 7 is the only competion in that pricerange and the screen resolution is too low on that device, so if the N7 can match that price they'll come out on top. The Galaxy 7.7 is the next in line, but it cost almost twice as much for some reason...

Right now the LTE in the philippines seems to be a running joke. They arent covering all of manila just different buildings or small areas. I dont get it. They should LTE the whole thing or at least the majorly populated areas. Plus the LTE cost is high with extremely low bandwidth caps making it useless

Actually, they have even problems with their 3G network. In case you forgot, our 3G (HSDPA and HSPA+)is only at 2Mbit max which is so fvckin' lame! In terms of Smart's so-called "LTE," it can only reach up to 15Mbit which is the normal speed of other country's 3G (HSPA+) or even their 3G is way faster than that! Mind you, their LTE at that time should be fast because it was only a test and there's no one using the signal except for them.
Our telco's aren't ready to cater LTE services.

Im drooling for this phone. Will sell my Onex X for this as soon as it becomes available.

Theory as to why LG is constantly out of stock, and why Google made a bad decision.

I have a theory as to why the Nexus 4 is out of stock, and for such a long time. This may or may not have been mentioned before (probably has) but I just wish to discuss it. Remember, this is purely speculation.
The reason LG has only made around 400,000 handsets and starved production was due to their own flagship, the LG Optimus G. Every single thing about this phone, is IDENTICAL to the Nexus 4, besides the fact the N4 is rocking stock stock android and the aesthetics are slightly different. The N4 has an advantage among the developer community with it being able to be torn apart and tweaked and tinkered with, unlike the OG which LG is still being a little b____ about the bootloader on many of their recent phones.
The 16GB LG Optimus G is $800 here in Australia, and the 16GB Nexus 4 is $400. You do the math.
I don't know if LG's actuaries are idiots or something, but they would have known about the guaranteed success of the next Nexus device, going on the sales figures of all the other devices. LG thought that making a tiny amount of profit on every Nexus device and in turn increasing their companies reputation in the mobile business, was worse than not making ANY profit on their CRAPBOX 3000 (LG Optimus G). I can see where they are coming from, as they don't want their spectacular flagship to be left in the dust with full stock, but zero sales so basically I think they were just chucking a cry or something.
SO DON'T HATE ON GOOGLE FOR THE LACK OF NEXUS'
What you can hate Google for, is choosing LG in the first place. Yeah, they may of felt generous and were trying to support them but at the cost of their own company getting hated? Why didn't they just buy LG like they did with Motorola, and that would be the end of it? When I heard of the new Nexus Device, I celebrating because for some reason I thought they were going to choose HTC for production (who knows why). Nek minnit, they choose some struggling company that either can't or won't keep up with production.
This may of looked like a run-out-of-the-mill rant, but this was some, high-quality, researched ranting skills to pay the bills.
Discuss.

I fail to see how you guys can always come up with such gossip.
Google has made contracts with LG and they are producing the amount Google demanded.
Whether it was Google ordering just a tiny amount of phones, or LG can't keep up with production, due to manufacturing errors or anything else, we will never know.
Also, LG is not a bad hardware manufacturer. They do have the capability to spit out hundreds of thousand devices a month, and they've proven that they can.
For your info: devices produced in October: 75k
Devices produced in December: 400k
As you can see, they can definitely keep up with the demand, it's probably just Google ordering only tiny amounts of it.
A contract breach, as in simply not delivering the amount of phones Google demanded, would have legal consequences for them, so I guess they will be thinking twice before hampering the production.
Cheers.

Lol, do you think "hundreds of thousands of devices a month" is anywhere near enough for a $600 phone priced at $350? Try several millions a month.
Oh and those production numbers were just speculation (albeit a logical one). No one knows the exact numbers.
Why does everyone blame LG? Is there a valid excuse for Samsung taking forever to restock the Nexus 10?

Yes, 400k might not be enough. But don't expect the nexus to sell like the iPhone or a Samsung galaxy. There simply is no marketing at all for the nexus. Companies like Apple and Samsung invest millions every year into marketing. Have you ever seen a nexus 4 ad other than on YouTube?
Probably not. The nexus' demographic is mostly tech enthusiasts.
I don't think LG is intentionally halting the manufacturing process, i mean they would be really stupid to do so, some of of you seem to forget that one of the biggests ways to sell is having quantity over price, if LG sells 5 million Nexus 4 that would make them a ton more money than selling 1 million Optimus G  , also it doesn't hurt that a lot more people are talking good stuff (regarding quality) about them, that could never hurt a company .
What LG did on purpose (in my opinion) was refusing to provide a 32 gb version of the phone , so if people want more storage (and LTE) they should buy the Optimus G

Not even in the newspaper other than reviews and such mentioning it. Maybe that's why they don't however as they've already got tons of (positive) press here. In general, you advertise to get your name out there and build brand, once you are out there and everyone knows your name you tend to save those ad dollars.

[PT] Nexus 5 - Portugal thread

I've searched but I didn't found any thread for the portuguese market.
So, I think that we needed this place to talk about the long waited Nexus 5.
Last year was very to us to get the Nexus 4 (at least at a fair price). Due to the stock crash only in January or February it was available at the main stores like Fnac or MediaMarkt but priced over 550€.
I hope that this year we could have it a lot earlier. Last year Google released some of his services in our country, like books or music. I hope (ok, I haven't that much hope...) they carry on launching their services so that we could have Play Devices but it is unlikely.
Lets see what comes and which retailers would sold it. And we'll alwways have services like forward2me and, my favorite, friends all over Europe

I approve of this post. I've also looked around the Nexus 5 forum and only found a way that involves using Tor and setting up a fake Google account, then buying from the UK, sending to a UK address and having the phone re-shipped to Portugal. This is way too much of a hassle for me and I can't say I fully trust it to work or be particularly cheap.
If anyone knows of a reputable online retailer that stocks the Nexus 5 and ships to Portugal, can you give us a heads up please? Or if you come up with an easier way of getting this candy into our hands?
Handtec has it on pre-sale with delivery expected arround November 11th. It's a litle pricey, it'sm about 359£ to the 16GB and about 401£ to the 32GB version. I'm not sure if we must add shipment dosts to Portugal but if so I don't that is over 10€.
I've read on another forum that forward2me has a special to this device that theeirselves bought the device and just ship it to you but needs to check this.
Thanks, ToneJeco. I'll check out those options. It's a bit of a markup compared to the £299 on Google Play or £295 at Carphone Warehouse, but who knows?

Personally, I'm going to try one of the The Phone House stores (The Phone House = Carphone Warehouse in Portugal, and other countries) and see if they could get a Nexus 5 in. Somehow.
I might do that as well. Did it in Media Markt already (they'll warn me if and when they get the Nexus 5), as they previously had the Nexus 4 for some time.

Fnac.pt will unveil the nexus 5 next week, so next week we'll know if it's an official LG launch or not.
If it is the phone will be available in practically every major chain.
For those thinking about buying via playstore and forward2me it's much cheaper to buy from carphone warehouse (less hassle with mbnet declines, free postage to forward2me and no need for personal shopping)

i think ill have to do it like a i did with my nexus 4.
find a friend in uk and ask them to buy it and send it to me... its cheaper...
but first i need to sell my n4, money isnt that much in my pocket...
but good idea to start a thread for our contry...
Managed to grab two 16GB Nexus 5 (BLK) directly from the German Play Store, through a work colleague based in Germany and should have 'em with me sometime during next week. :victory: :fingers-crossed:

Really ?! Because I've called FNAC today after reading your post and they had no idea what the heck I was talking about. And based in a past experience, ordering from Carphone Warehouse (even to a UK forwarding address) was actually a PITA.

I've called several FNAC stores and checked their website. Also, I couldn't find any official statement about the Nexus 5 availability at their facebook page.

Found it, thanks!
The answer given by FNAC's representative wasn't, well... Too convincing. But yeah... Let's see what happens next week and, above all, how much they will ask for it.
I've ordered a black 32Gb one from the UK play store... Well, not me, but a friend of mine who's working in London.. He will then send it to me through Royal mail. I hope to have it by the 11th or 12th of November..!
Cant wait!

I'm a litle afraid of Fanc's prices since last year they sold Nexus 4 @ 600€ but things may be diferent if LG make it official. I hope so since they seem to be trying hard to push their image and get their space in the smartphone's market with G2. A Nexus device is always a good way to increase that recognition.
I almost bought N5 this weekend but I believe is better to chill a bit and wait, I really have no hurge so I'll wait to see how the things evolve and how will be the availability here in Portugal. But that price from carphone is very tempting

Nope, you got the same problem. LG wanted to charge 600 for the N4. They'll probably do the same for the N5. So, even if it's an official release, we'll have it for 600€ over at FNAC.

Problem is, it isn't that easy to get CPW to send you anything to Portugal, even through a UK forwarding address. Firstly, because you need a credit or debit card associated to an UK billing address (I don't think you can do that with MBNet) and secondly, you need a real UK mobile phone number, something that services like Forward2me do not provide.
And I highly doubt FNAC Portugal will have the Nexus 5 in the coming week as a representative stated at FNAC's facebook page. Right now, the availability of the Nexus 5 in B&M stores isn't a reality with CPW being one of the very few exceptions so it's highly unlikely they'll have it in stock this week. But let's see what happens.
Lg has several country wide launches scheduled for this week, so I don't thing that's so unlikely

Hi everyone.
If I buy a Nexus 5 in the UK to use in Portugal (I have a friend in London that can buy it) will all radios work correctly in Portugal? I know GSM is the same in all Europe but what about 3G LTE. Can anyone confirm or tell me how I can check it?

Nexus 5 Indonesian Thread (Pricing, Availability, Accessories, etc)

Hey guys, here is the thread to talk about Nexus 5 in Indonesia, I guess it won't be available until January or late December, but you can share any info about N5 in Indonesia here.
tell us what do you guys expect about N5 in Indonesia, whether its price tag, release date, or you have any info to get it from Play Store, please share it here!
Off-topic is welcomed here.
If you want to talk in Bahasa it's okay as long as you include the translation.

im more concerned about how much will it cost to buy one here..
unlocked nexus devices here doesn't come with google play price tag.. it could go up to ~50% more expensive especially when it's new..

yes, I am sure it won't go as high as G2, since the G2 price is on 6.5M I am sure the N5 will be in 5-6M range if not the same price as N4 when first released here back in january.
Not sure which version will be released here tho, but let's hope it will be the 32GB version.

well let's hope it stays that way to get buyers attention.. a phone with Snapdragon 800 for under $600 is considered a steal even in indonesian standard..
heck, even my LG G2 (which is basically a N5 with a bigger battery, an IR Port, and 13 megapixel camera) is about $100 cheaper than the Z1.. and a whole $200 cheaper than the Note 3..
The "luxury item tax" sucks in this country. (pajak barang mewah in Indonesian)
If LG decides to bring it here, I think it'll be priced at IDR 5,499,000 and IDR 5,999,000 for the 16GB / 32GB variant respectively. Not sure when, but since there's this Indocomtech event going on right now and they are advertising the G2 a lot, I think we'll have to wait until the craze about G2 dies down before they bring it to Indonesia. I mean why would they bring a cheaper phone when they have G2 right?
I have a credit card but I'm not sure how I feel about ordering online via Play Store / Amazon / eBay. If there's a holdup at the airport that would suck. I may even have to end up paying more money just to get that phone "released" from the custody of stupidly retarded corrupted people.
I have a few friends in the US that travels back and forth though, so I'm actually thinking of asking them to get one for me.
Anyone knows if the it can be used in Indonesia though? I'm kind of afraid there's a difference in network bands.
Anyway, with all that said, maybe we can all try to rush LG by perhaps, mentioning the existance of Nexus 5 via Twitter (@lgmobileid) or their Facebook fan page
Perhaps if they see there are dozens of people wanting this phone badly they'll speed up the release.
Oh well, here I am hoping and crossing my fingers as each day goes by :fingers-crossed:

I am good as long as the price is not cross 6M mark.
No it's not luxury item tax, it still under consideration by government, not yet become a policy. and the pricing in non-play store country is almost the same because it sells by LG and warranty is goes to LG not Google.
I am not sure but G2 has better camera and more mainstream device here, who cares about Nexus here lol
I am not yet seeing any person using N4 here btw in Jogja.
I am pretty sure it is usable here, it's all the same except the cdma variant and LTE bands which is still not available yet here.
It's like nexus 4 case, a lot of people including me force them to release it quickly or at least give us the date but they still quiet until it's released back in January, I guess it will be the same in this case.
so we still has 2 months left to wonder about the price and release date, and there is still hope for dollar to get weak, and back to 10k.

how was the price of nexus 4 back then when it was released on indonesia?
I hope the price can be below 5m, it is retarded if it goes up to 6m what is that stupid tax someone said about? I mean I saw a lenovo k900 advertisement on kompas today priced at 4m, NOT FAR from ebay or another online price I saw from googling, thus if lenovo phone price can be reasonably on par with international 'standard', why can't nexus 5???
if the ridiculous inflated price do happen, what is the cause? don't tell me that phones taxes are somehow tied with the phones' specs, that is utterly retarded beyond idiocy
now anoyher matter is availability, will normal phone shops here have nexus 5? how about the services and warranty, who is going to cover for them?
also can indonesian buy nexus 5 directly from google?
I heard from singapore forum, we can order N5 from australia's google playstore and then get it ship to Indonesia.
I got friend that can buy me the phone and when she comes back, I can have my N5. But can it really work with our carriers?

Nexus on play store available country is subsidized by google, and in non-play store country get it from LG instead Google.
No, it's not the tax, it's nothing to do with tax.
Yes it will be available here, only the release date is matters here, I bought mine from Erafone while LG authorized centre doesn't even have it yet.

I don't know maybe it's the actual price before subsidized.
but not too long after initial release, about 3-4months i guess they cut the price to 4.999.000.
just wait couple months if you want more affordable price

sigh, unfortunately I can't wait, my current phone is dying, actually originally I've been waiting for these new high end phablets especially the htc one max but htc dropped their balls really really harf with such underwhelming specs, not to mention htc phones are as expensive as samsung here I think, one of the reason I was hoping for htc because of their sense, been a long time admirer of it since touchflo days with winmo but surprisingly never owned an htc device lol... just when I finally about to get one they came up with rubbish phone lol.
don't like the bloatware infested samsung phones as well as their annualy rising apple like insanely high prices
lg g2 is quite nice but I don't like their ui too, as well as their less than average software updates support
then there is sony phones, for some time I liked sony ericsson very much on the days of P800-900 as well as the very first xperia phone but their current fetish with water proof phones just put me off, report says they have terrible sounds as well as underwhelming display, I don't like the ui either lol
so in a way, nexus 5 is my last hope for a 2013 flagship phone, either this or I'll wait to see the next htc flagship which is probably still 6+ months away unfortunately
overall it's sucks to be in this position lol

it is normal for modern smartphone, only the downside for me is development, development on N4 is almost reach its max, and everything will be steady, no more surprise whatsoever.
I tried my friend's S4, it's hot when playing game, not N4 hot but it is plastic while n4 is glass.
try to undervolt the cpu it will be much cooler, never had any heat issue unless the phone is constantly searching for signal cause i am in poor coverage area which is pretty normal on any phone.
