[QUESTION]Flash Custom Kernel (CM7)

Hello All,
I used to run DarkyRom 10.2 Extreme. Now I am on Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS.
Phone Details:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS
Android Version: 2.3.7
Baseband Version: I9000XXJVT
Kernel: 2.6.35.12-gdf10700 [email protected] #1 - not sure what kernel this is??
Build Number: GWK74
~Questions:~
Can I flash a custom kernel over the top of this currently installed ROM (like I did when I flashed the JVT Modem to fix my data connection)?
I have read that the Recovery is stored in the Kernel - So if I flash a different kernel will it replace my CwM 5.0.2.6? (I have noticed there are different colours of CwM Recovery - is this because of the kernel?
Thankyou for any help

Yes you can flash custom kernels, just be sure that the kernel you flash is for Cm7/MIUI and not sammy stock ROM. I have tried Glitch myself a couple times, but I stay on stock CM7 kernel for the moment since i find it more stable.
Peace out!

1. Yes, but before flashing a new kernel flash this script.
2. Correct, but if I'm not mistaken all the major kernels have CWM5 (Platypus Neo 18, FuguMod, Glitch)
Also, you might want to switch to CM nightly #181 instead of 7.1 stable, just a suggestion. 7.1 is quite outdated.
Thankyou very much for the replies, I will flash the nightly tonight using ROM Manager

[Q] How to flash custom roms (AOKP) in JV1 build

Hi,
I am currently on the leaked gb build 2.3.2 and my build number is XWJV1. I saw that there is no CWM recovery for the current build so how can i install roms like AOKP in my i9000 without CWM?
Thanks

I think you would just have to flash a kernel with CWM.
For example, CF Root for JV1, includes:
"CF-Root takes the kernel from an original Samsung firmware, and just adds root, busybox, and (unprotected recovery and CWM compatibility) OR (CWM3)"
I can't post a link because I'm a junior member. Look in the i9000 Development section, search CF Root JV1.

Enter Download mode, flash via Odin a firmware (like JVU) that has got a compatible kernel (like semaphore) and you'll' have access to recovery mode, from where you could flash any .zip AOKP rom.

[Q] Jelly Beer V4.1.0 Installation Help!!

I currently using

[Q] I need help updating Ultimate JB v5.1 rom to v6 rom. Any1 out there to help?

Right guys heres the info...
Samsung Galaxy Note GT N7000
Rom Version: Ultimate XXLSC ROM
Build number: Ultimate XXLSC JellyBean 4.1.2 v5.1
Kernel Version: 3.0.31 - 593490 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 27 02:33:05 KST 2012
Now thats out the way let me explain this as clearly as possible.
All i basically want to do is to update my v5.1 to v6.
Well i read through everything and read that I had to be on a safe kernel.
To where my understanding goes I should be doing this:
Going into CWM > wiping the data and stuff > then booting back into CWM using the advanced tab > then installing the new version of the ultimate rom.
I dont need to be flashing philz new version-ed kernel via odin? because the truth is I DNT KNOW HOW TO!! lol
Is that what I should be doing or something else?
Please Help Guys
Appreciate the help Lads.
If your on ultimate ROM already then you should have the kernel that was with the ROM which is safe but your not sure you can flash philz kernel with cwm just download the one for your ROM version in .zip form and flash as normal also with philz kernel you will still have the stock version showing up in your info because his kernel is stock so if your on an custom jb ROM then your kernel is safe just flash as normal another thing is that philz kernel is a touch interface in recovery that is a easy way of knowing if its philz or not but like I said jb and cwm is safe

MODDED CLOCKWORKMOD TOUCH RECOVERY
v6.0.3.6
Yes, we already have a CWM Touch Recovery, TWRP and the highly customizable Philz Recovery for our Galaxy Grand i9082/i9082L, all thanx to the talented and brilliant developers and owners of i9082!

Then what are these?
These are a bit modified (modded), unofficial CWM Touch Recoveries for i9082/i9082L.
I like things customized my way, so i started working on customizing CWM Touch Recovery that i used very frequently for flashing and backups. And I have always disliked the fat android in the background that used to pop up whenever i flashed something! (No offence to any CWM developer, it is just my opinion)
There isn't much that i could have customized as touch sources of Clockworkmod recovery are not open source, but i did all i could and the way i like it.
Works on all ROMs, 4.1.2 (official), 4.2.2 (official and leaked) and all AOSP based ROMs (CM10.1, AOKP, PA, Slimbean, etc).
I'll try and keep the modded Clockworkmod Touch recoveries up to date for i9082 with all the latest changes.
Custom Modifications:
-> Changed the background of CWM (Text is now more readable than stock look)
-> Removed the animation in the fat Android's stomach
-> Removed the fat Android itself
-> Placed a "good-looking" android on the right of the screen so that it doesn't interfere with the text when flashing
-> Internal memory support added (When the CWM version is made, by default it only allows External SD card to be accessed)
-> Adjusted the Clockworkmod logo to be more visible and text more readable
-> Moved progress bar to the bottom edge (Let's face it, it isn't that useful anyways. It's the text and the log that matters more)
How to flash them?
-> You can use any currently running custom recovery in your phone to flash these new recoveries.
-> Download the recovery that you want.
-> Put the recovery on your SD card (Internal or External)
-> Flash using your current custom recovery!
Latest unmodified Clockworkmod Touch Recovery is also in the Downloads if you wish to revert back to the old look and feel.
When you get bored out of your CWM Touch Recovery's look, just flash a new one from within the old one. Everything changes!
Make your phone look like YOU OWN IT in every possible way!

Yes! It is more readable and better looking now.
Touch based recovery's source isn't open source (yet). So can't make changes to that (as of now).

It's based on the latest 4.1.2 recovery image. I built CWM Touch Recovery from 4.2.2 INU version, but it wasn't working on base 4.1.2. Then i tried recovery based on Thailand version by Mohanshbhr but that didn't work on base 4.1.2 either. In short, that means to run AOSP based ROMs (CM10.1, AOKP, PA, Slimbean, etc) we need base as 4.1.2 (as of now) and anyone who has flashed 4.2.2 official Samsung ROM can't run AOSP based ROMs.
My recoveries based on 4.1.2 work on all ROMs, AOSP based, 4.1.2 Official and 4.2.2 Official.

Thank you for trying on i9082L. Updated the OP that these work on i9082L as well. I hoped they would, but couldn't have confirmed without someone testing it.
Installation Query
I have read these installation instructions.
You can use any currently running recovery in your phone to flash these new recoveries.
As I am noob & am terrified at the loss of use of phone if something goes wrong. I just want to know can I flash this using stock recovery on 4.2.2 Inu version? also is there is any need to flash fix recovery file to make this recovery permanent?

You need to have a custom recovery already installed before you install any one of these. So first you need use ODIN to replace stock recovery with a custom one, and if it is your first time rooting your phone and putting a custom recovery, read extensively before you do so. You can use thread by chotu222 that i have linked in the OP. You'll need to flash Fix Recovery only once when you are replacing stock recovery with a custom one. Then you can flash other custom recoveries from within the recoveries themselves.

Even i don't use CWM Recovery anymore. Philz Recovery has everything that I need. CWM Non-Touch Recovery v6.0.4.4 was just lying there on my HDD for the past few days so i upload it.

I tested the v6.0.4.5 zip by flashing it on TWRP, CWM v6.0.4.4, CWM v6.0.3.6, Philz recovery. It worked from all recoveries. On which recovery did you flash it?
EDIT: Over 40 ppl have downloaded the zip in the last 9 hours and no one else has reported issues..
