This isn't a carrier-subsidized phone, it's a Nexus. Unlocking the bootloader and thus root is a feature fully supported out of the box.
Nothing special here, you can easily root any Nexus device.
We buy Nexus devices because we expect its bootloader to be easily unlocked (fastboot oem unlock) and easy to root, and the direct Google updates.
Sent from my R800x
Everyone knows on nexus its just a case of fastboot oem unlock
I was hoping for a source, cause who ever it is already has their hands on a device... we could get a system dump maybe?
Wow, amazing.. Or not. You only need one command to unlock a nexus phone, it is a built in feature.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
im glad everyone knows how to unlock the bootloader, that doesnt give you root though.
with custom kernel that means someone had to have pulled the stock image off using an exploit that works on 4.2 (in which case the device in question may be fully stock except root). with custom recovery it isnt impossible to do without the stock kernels but it certainly makes it a bit more time consuming.
so while im happy everyone knows its indeed a nexus device this proves 1 of two things, someone already has a 4.2 ready exploit (doubt it would go public any time soon tho), or some for of custom recovery is already made for the device.

The only purpose of an exploit on a device with an unlockable AND relockable bootloader is to save some people from wiping /data. That's it. You can achieve the exact same thing with unlock->root->lock. There was only a couple people who seemed to possibly be implying that unlock bootloader means root. The rest of us were saying with open source recovery and fastboot oem unlock and the fact that exploits don't matter, the rooting of this device is a forgone conclusion.

As i said in my post i get that custom recoveries are used for that. everyone seemed to be bashing this thread but as i said it holds more valuable information than most of the threads on this forum. if someone made a custom recovery then chances are day one of shipment it will publicly available and everyone can root using it, its a step towards development regardless, you wouldnt shun someone showing off TWRP/CWM on the N4 saying "oh its a nexus that was easy.." its the same work to get root.
if this was rooted using an exploit then even better news IMO, sure its "fairly" useless on this device (although using it you can then grab dumps of the images and make recovery etc). but there are a lot of devices out there who could use this exploit.
but yes i agree that this phoen would have had a way to root very quickly regardless, just amazed to see people think they could root it the same way as they did their other nexus devices (which prolly had recovery before they got the device)
Excuse my n00by question here, but if I were to unlock my bootloader which I am going to do as soon as my N4 has some charge, that isn't going to give me Root which is what I want but eh.
Is there any known working method of rooting this device at the moment? Is it likely that Bin4ry's ICS/JB exploit will work here?

Can you confirm if bin4ry's root method works for this firmware or do you need to unlock the bootloader and flash advanced stock kernel to gain root as we have to do on the T with 7.0.A.3.195
Just tried Binary method, stays on running forever. Installed Advanced kernal. This is off topic but how do I root with advanced kernal installed?

7.0.A.3.195 is exactly the same and available in multiple FTF's and for most people even on Update Service.
A minor version increase with 2 is absolutely not worth flashing for.
Anyone flashed this FTF?
I flashed it and my TX died, luckily my boot loader is closed so I repaired it through SUS.
I keep hearing that the update gave tx a boost from 5000 to 5800 roughly.
Im not a tech guy or anything, but mine is sitting at 5400 after the update. Does the quadrant even matters? Not every chip is the same, does that show that my chip is slower than some others?
My apologies if I'm asking a stupid question.
Thanks guys!

Personally all benchmark tests are meaningless and should be taken with a pinch of salt. What matters is how it operates day to day. I've yet to take a benchmark result I've seen seriously because I think it's pointless for mobile phones, but that's just me while others love to moan their figures aren't what the reviews got blah blah blah. Basically if the phone is working fine for you ignore benchmarks as they're not going to be able to give you a realistic measure of anything you'd do in day to day use.

If you are on .136 you can't root directly with apps like Vroot or 360. The only way to root your phone is the method of NUT here: Root 4.3
The method is for Locked Bootlader so you will not lose anything, even the Warranty, just read carefully and follow the instructions.
Is this correct?

There is no other ways and,
Flashtool is an Application to flash FTFs.
XZDual Recovery is a Recovery and have to be flashed on Z1.
FW .290 is a Firmware like .136.
..and Yes, you missing stuff, all is on XDA, just search.
Again, if you want Rooted .136 you have to follow and read carefully what to do on that thread.
If you don't want to have Rooted Phone but you just don't like bloatware on your phone then Flash a generic Unbranded FTF .136 via Flashtool and you are done.
Ok, I'll try that post.
Thanks for your help and patience.

There will be no direct Root because Google made Android more secure so if you want to root you have to start understand first what you have to do. Starting from here and watching the Video where all explain. You have just use Flashtool and downdrade to .534 then Root and make all the steps. Nobody will do it for you.
Guys!
Good news I finally got my Z1 rooted but here's the thing, Im trying to update to. 257 but everytime it says there was an error.

About
The WinDroid Toolkit is a Windows program built in Visual Studio using the C# programming language that simplifies the rooting process for many Android devices. The toolkit makes it easy to unlock your bootloader, flash a custom recovery and gain permanent root. It also includes other functions such as flashing kernels, pushing files and installing apps. If you find it helpful, give me a thanks and a donation if you can. If you find a bug or have a feature request, feel free to leave a reply. Thanks!

Nope, this tool is an AiO toolkit for many many models, the developer used his standard text when he opened the thread (understandable ). So probably you will be able to unlock the BL, but you won't be able to relock it, as there is no procedure known at the moment.
Do you support Sony Xperia Z ultra C6806 GPe?

Added to index, thanks for your work!
Very nice program.Thanks.
Nice tool man glad I found this helped me a lot used it to unlock my bootloader after I downgraded and flashed twrp for it thanks man much appreciated
I tried this toolkit and I don't seem to be able to make it work. Other than being unlocked, in the fastboot mode, it says the bootloader version is unknow, that the signing got a "?" and same thing about the secure boot. There is a blue line saying "continue the fastboot process" as if something wasnt completed. If I launch into recovery I get an installation icon then an error.
Thanks for your help.

No need to be ironic.
At first i thought the same as you, but i looked it that excel file that liste the supported devices. The Zenfone 2 is listed in the "requests" section, not in the supported section.
That is why I asked.
please upload video on youtube!
Has anyone used this to Unlock Bootloader, flash TWRP, and Gain Root? Just making sure it works as intended on the latest ZE551ML update (WW_2.20.40.97) before I try it out.
Also, the ADBDriver.msi installer is not working for me. I'm using Windows 10, if that's the problem...?
