- Windows Instructions
Extract .zip to its own folder on the Desktop.
Install the required drivers. The folder with the drivers is called "Drivers [WINDOWS ONLY]" and is included in the Utility folder.
Double click the ".bat" file. This will be called "WindowsUtility.bat" the image is just for reference.
- Mac & Linux Instructions
Extract the .zip to any folder you like, the /Downloads/ or /Desktop/ folder should work just fine.
Open a Terminal window. (On Mac: Applications > Utilities > Terminal)
Learn your 'sudo' password. This is almost always your Admin password on a Mac computer. On Linux you should already know what this is, its yours account password if your account is an admin as well.
Type the following code into the Terminal Windows, places where it says ***DRAG HERE*** are telling you to simply drag the folder there. For example: cd ***DRAG FOLDER HERE*** then press 'Enter' after each line.
cd ***DRAG UNZIPPED UTILITY FOLDER HERE***
chmod +x ./LinuxMacUtility.sh
bash ./LinuxMacUtility.sh
You will be asked for your sudo password at least once in the Utility process, so make sure you followed the instructions to learn it.
Functions of the DROID RAZR M Utility 1.10:
1 Fastboot Restore (JB 4.1.1 Official Software)
2 Root (motofail2go by Dan Rosenberg) for ICS 4.0.4/JB 4.1.1
3 Install Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper App.
Number 1 Explained -- This option requires your phone be in AP Fastboot mode. It will flash the official Jellybean firmware to your device.
Number 2 Explained -- This is Dan Rosenberg's DROID RAZR M 4.0.4/4.1.1 exploit called 'motofail2go'. This option requires your phone to be booted normally, with USB Debugging enabled.
Number 3 Explained -- This option requires your phone to be booted normally, with USB Debugging enabled. It will install Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper App.
Remember, do not run this utility unless your phone is at 100% battery OR you have bought yourself one of Team Black Hat's Factory-Style Programming Adapters.
Thanks to Djrbliss for motofail2go!

Just ordered myself a Moto Razr M yesterday, should be in tomorrow. I may have to give this a try.

just got mine yesterday, rite before the above method was posted, i can assure you that its really pretty painless process even without that method, one problem i did have was while rooting, i could not get the app to work on my xp machine for nothing, xferred the files to my win7 machine and it worked the first time, i am assuming it had something to do with my administration rights on the xp. so i dont even try anything on it anymore(might save you a hassle if you still have a xp machine around). safestrap v3.12 was the only version i could get to work, rsd lite v6.14 was the only version i could get to work, and eclipse is the only rom i have tried so far so i am not much help there. also remember the battery is not removable so i havent even dared to try anything without 100% charge. good luck and grats on your new phone!
p.s if you havent read yet the internal storage is very low, so you will eventually want to install your custom rom over your stock rom slot in safestrap. if you need advice on doing it lemme know, there is a few posts about it(jumbled in the middle of hundreds of posts) if you can find a few.

Thanks for the tips. I have seen the other methods here on XDA, however this is the only one I can find that works native under Linux. (I've been sober for 6 years and counting) no windows machines in my house. Well, maybe a VM or two I wasn't planning on ROMing (just root) it until a reliable bootloader unlock is made available for the retail version. I like the idea of safestrap, it's defiantly in the right direction. But personaly I much rather have only a single ROM on my phone, something about "dual boots" just bothers me. But I digress...

Extremely simple and great tool. Thanks!

Well, all this is, is a utility to make installing the official JB firmware on your Motorola Droid Razr M easier, then root it using the exploit, and finally install the Voodoo OTARootkeeper apk file. You can do each of these steps manually, this is just for convenience - sort of a 1-stop-shop, if you will.

Now that made perfect in excellent sense. I did not understand based on the original post, but your clarification was perfect. I always done everything manually, but it's good to know that the tool like this exists. Thank you so much and I appreciate your help!

Just tried the script going from stock ics and it worked great. Also digging the Batman theme.
Much appreciated for putting it together.

Not sure what happened here but options 2 and 3 worked fine on Mac and PC. Could not get the restore to work on either os, eventually used RSD and the firmware file that came with the utility. Mac failed to push system and PC would not recognize the option as a valid cmd.

How long is the flashing supposed to take? Its been going on for about an hour and half, still says writing 'sb12'. sb11 was succesful so im too scared to yank it out and start again. Bricking it is the last thing i want.

I dont know what im doing wrong. Connected fully charged usb debugging and i press space bar to continue and it closes. Odd anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Guys

The tool did not work for me last night at all. Ran is as admin, and it always just said that fastboot was an unrecognized command, then said complete without doing anything.
so, I just used RSD lite in that .zip and flashed the stock rom manually. Worked great fater 2 tries (no idea why the first 2 failed, but they did).

Does this work on 4.1.1? I'm defiantly missing something

Yes. Having issues?
Sent from my Baked GT-P3113

Oh, well I will try it not as an admin sometime. I extracted the .zip, and ran it. No file movement at all. it would see the phone, but then cmd windows would say that 'flashboot' was an invalid command about 7-8 times and ask me to press any key again. And then nothing, then any key again. No idea why, but I ran it as instructed except the admin thing. I've used a couple of tools like this in the past (something similar existed for my Droid X), so I don't know what the issue was.

Yes I ran it from the same folder. Must have been something on my end that caused the issue, but I got where I needed to be.

You can't use it from 4.1.2 the security increased. I would have found out but not a single viable tester apparently follows me on twitter who still has a locked bootloader.

I am testing this now with new 4.1.2 tools.

DROID 4 Utility Pre-Release [WINDOWS]

UPDATED PAGE!
Back with another utility... this time pre-release Droid 4! I haven't seen a Droid 4 board yet so I guess I have to put this under General.
There are no fastboot files as of writing this (2/11/2012) but once they come out I will be making a full version that includes fastboot restore. For now, only a few MB compared to GB full.
Includes Root function thanks to Dan Rosenberg's motofail exploit.
It is the only reason we can have a working utility root!
Donate to his fund for the Red Cross here
Note to all: I am giving control of the Droid 4 Utility to skylarmb (Although I will still be very involved )
Don't use Safestrap yet!
Hashcode is making a D4 version very soon!

Screenshot of what the folder should look like in order for it to run:
And if anyone could do a system pull and send me a copy over a file-share site like mediafire or minu.us that would be very helpful to me. Thanks
EDIT: Nvm. I got one.
What do the different options do? I went from having a OG Droid, with cyanogenmod which was super straight forward to this and I have no idea what the fastboot or bootstrapping does.
If you still need the /system pull I can send you the link over PM.

Bootstrap is the way to get into a CWM-like recovery for the Razr. I have no way to test this on a D4, seeing as I don't have one.
ICS root works on the GSM ICS leak, so it may work for ours too.
Boot into Fastboot from Debugging (go directly to fastboot mode from the phone turned on and in USB Debugging mode)
Boot into Motorola Recovery from Debugging (same as above but into Moto Recovery)
ADB Shell (for more manually inclined users)
Reboot phone from Debugging
I have ADB 1.0.26 (at least that is what it says when I go to Start>Run>CMD>and type in adb.
Is there anything else I need to get the phone rooted? Any other drivers or anything along those lines. I know the phone needs to be in development mode, but I want to make sure all of the other software on the computer end is up-to-date since I've had a G1, Mytouch Slide 3G, G2, and Droid 3 before picking up this Droid 4.

I think most people use the one they use with CM.
code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
This one I think. You have to install via the APK.
Please correct me if there is a different one of this is the wrong one. I'm actually curious myself.
I have no technical explanation for this, but...
DO NOT RUN THE .BAT FILE AS ADMINISTRATOR.
If I right-click the .bat file and click "run as administrator" in Windows 7, everything would appear to work (at least to the splash screen), but when I selected option 1 it would come back with a bunch of lines of "the system cannot find the path specified."
When I just double clicked the .bat file it ran properly and am now set.
Again, I have no idea why it worked this way, but it did...at least on my system. Windows 7 64-bit here, btw.

I was wondering the same thing, if the RadioCom Tether Hack worked. But I tried to enable the tether on the phone, and Verizon pops up a message as long as I have a $29.95 data plan then I can tether. So I went forward and enabled teather since I have the unlimited plan, and all seems well. I went to My Verizon web and checked to see if I'm being charged, or if another service has been added, and I see non. So I will try using this for now.
Thank you XDA for putting my Utility on the front page =D
So I used the utility to root my droid 4, but I did not install the safe strap. At this point I do not plan on doing any flashing or even heavy customization. I just wanted root for install of wifi tether and titanium backup. Is there a need for safestrap before I plan on getting into flashing etc?

I'd recommend against installing safestrap if you won't be flashing anything. =D
bricked my droid 4... for now...
I'm pretty pissed at my self... I softbricked my droid 4 days after i got it... now im just waiting for the fastboot restore option... I'll be checking back here every day now lol... does anyone know when it will be released, or is it even a guarantee it'll be released?
How did this happen? Best of luck on getting it fixed!

Well i had success using the droid razr utility before this one came out (of course cant fastboot recovery with it tho ), so i thought maybe the EternityProject WebTop Mod would work, so i tried installing it through adb and i went to do the 2nd step and found out webtop was disabled... I figure i did something wrong... so i went to restore the backup i made and all of the sudden its stuck in AP fastboot saying flash failure.
This really sucks cause i bought the lapdock 500 to go with the phone. Now I have 2 bricks sitting on my desk, until further notice.
I since i have insurance on this phone I am putting the phone up for sale on craigslist with an hdmi cable so someone can enjoy a small android tab and webtop if they want it for 120... anyone think I'll be able to sell it before the fastboot recovery is released?
Quick question....If I do a system pull and then try to throw a few things from UOT kitchen like battery percent.....would that work without the files being deodexed?

Easily Root Motorola Droid 4

Instruction
1.Download and install the latest Motorola USB Driver to your PC: Download Here
2. Download and extract MotoFail for Windows
3. Next, turn on the USB Debugging mode from Settings>Applications on your Droid 4. Also, check the Unknown Sources box.
4. Now it’s time to connect your phone to your PC, via a USB cable.
5.Then all you need to do is to run the Runme.bat file that you extracted earlier.
6.Your Droid 4 should reboot now and it would be rooted.
7. On reboot look for the SuperUser App in program list. It it is present, congratulations1 If not, repeat the whole procedure again.
I liked the way of tutorial thanks for sharing this tip
thanks for the easy root method. i do have a question concerning rom manager though. when trying to install Clockwork Recovery via ROM manager there is no 'droid 4' option available yet. does anyone know if one of the current installers works for droid 4?

Not yet, and if you aren't 100% sure of what you're doing and fully comfortable with the process, I wouldn't do ANYTHING to your phone until the necessary files to recover from a mistake are available.
Worked like a charm...
Thanks, easiest root ever!
And FYI MotoFail (a compiled version can be found @ corusa.com/public/motofail.exe via crobs808)
Is this still the recommended way to root this phone? Also, will this process allow you to unroot it as well?

I would recommend using the Droid 4 Utility. It allows you to root, unroot, and a couple of other things. Really easy to use too.

VZ Droid 4 v4.1.2 performance
I am an IT professional with 30 years experience in mainframes and pcs. However, I have never attempted anything on an android device.
I have a Verizon Droid 4 running android 4.1.2. It performed very well when first activated, but over the last year it has begun slowing down. It will often lag when changing screens or opening applications. A friend suggested rooting the phone and changing the rom to improve performance. He suggested your web site. I have read the instructions and they seem quite easy. I am just hesitant as this is my only phone and I need it for work. I have used things like Advanced Task Killer and QuickCleaner but they only seem to have a short term effect.
I am looking for suggestions for optimizing the performance. Any help will be appreciated.

ICS update ... can anyone help fix some of my 'issues'?

Got the Rogers ICS update finally!
HOWEVER ... afterwards here are a few issues I'm having:
Reduced Battery Life (assuming it has to do with issue #3)
Reduced Reception (Used to get -75 dBm, and now get -95dBm - sitting in the SAME spot. No change in towers, or tower locations.)
Would really like to be able to shut off "Background Data" like I could before. (i.e. in GB, Menu > Settings > Accounts & synch, uncheck Background Data)
WiFi is Weak ... I sit 4 feet from my "N" router, my laptop gets 100% signal, the phone 50-60%
LanucherPro works, Launcher Pro Paid version works, BUT ... I can't use the calendar widget.
I've "made do" with some creative widget-ing. (Used the built in calendar, and adjust the size (5 icons wide, 4 icons tall), and have a smaller 2 tall by 3 wide month calendar widget below) (how do I have 5 columns, and 6 rows? The paid version of Launcher Pro allows me to set that - and it works AWESOMELY - no problem with the screen.)
Too much Rogers Bloat (if I wanted UrMusic, 1 Contacts, 1 Number, Games etc), and the stupid Twitter app. If I wanted it, I'd download it.
Some good things:
LIKE the new font - clock, menu's etc are a non-bold font.
Like the Task Manager (hold home, swip an app to close it.)
Like the blue highlights under the Power Control Bar (used to be green)
LOVE the updates to Gmail and WebKit browser.
Phone seems for the most part, "snappier" - as if the CPU and GPU are being utilized properly.
And a single "side by side" of GB and ICS on the same device:

Well, if you want to get rid of the Rogers bloatware - root your phone and use Titanium Backup to clear them out.
I noticed about that with WiFi, but i did a reset and it works well now for me. As per the signal, mine actually improved.

When I had Gingerbread and an HTC Panache, when I tried to run Gingerbreak, it caused com.android.phone to loop crash, requiring a full reset of the phone... which I don't want to do again.
Reduced battery life most likely has to do with the fact that you have Advanced Task Killer on 4.0.3 and not on 2.3.5. Get rid of that crap IMMEDIATELY. It's been unnecessary since Froyo dropped aeons ago.

I followed these set of instructions:

Mind you, im still running the stock rogers ICS with an unlocked bootloader and rooted.
Its quite easy really, just follow his instructions.
And +1 getting rid of Task killers. Its great that i dont need them anymore and ICS has done quite well in managing memory.

I'm a hardware guy, not software. Doing something like what you listed, is near impossibly for me to do... due to many reasons.

The superguide is actually really good if followed exactly. If you have any questions about any of the steps, PM me, I'll try to help!

It might seem a little daunting but I can assure you it isn't that bad. For your purposes you only need to do steps 1 and 4. I've spent a lot of time making the directions thorough for those who haven't done anything like this before (for example, even explaining how to open up a command prompt).

Indeed atk is just unnecessary, it's android not windows, android is supposed to keep your memory 80% full for caching purposes. Using atk will slow down your system and decrease battery life

Let me also point out, that I have "Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder" ... just LOOKING at the instructions gives me a feeling of dread. I paid a guy a few years ago, to unlock my Moto Razr V3I because it had be disassembled. (Now, I build computers, but the parts are ALL the same for the most part... the most complicated thing I've done recently was install a HDD in an Asus G53Sw which requires removing the keyboard, wrist pad, and 15 screws. *L*)
Hey i got add too man. Im not sure if it still works but there is an all in one windows gui in the stick is, I'd this is all to difficult that might be your best bet. If it doesn't still work someone please correct me!
Overall though using adb and rooting isn't too hard. I'd say go through now and read through it, then read through it again. Then when it comes time to root read the instructions again and follow them step by step.

Then do a step and take 10 minute breaks in between each.
You already have ICS, so that shaves off a step.
- Do step 1 in the superguide to unlock your bootloader, or unlock the bootloader using the all-in-one toolkit
- Do step 4 in the superguide (it really doesn't take long... it consists of flashing a recovery from adb and flashing a zip in recovery, won't even take you ten minutes and I'd like to think the instructions are pretty detailed)

Damn... A lot of people are having issues with it. Follow step 4 in the guide in my signature. Except when you are doing the fastboot code from your command prompt, do that a few times. So do it once, reboot, unplug and repeat that a couple more times to make sure everything CWM related is gone. Then move on and flash the zip in step 4 to perm root.

The official firmware can be used to restore your tablet to its factory state, which means that it can be used as an escape route if you ever need to revert to stock firmware. For instance, this can be very handy if you stumble upon an bad or misbehaving custom ROM that makes your tablet malfunction.
This guide shows you how to revert the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3113 to Android 4.0.4 ICS build UEBLH2 (stock official firmware).
Warning
The instructions in this guide are intended for use with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, model number GT-P3113. Applying these instructions on another device or model may produce undesired outcomes.
The information in this guide is provided for instructional and educational purposes only. There is no guarantee that these instructions will work under your specific and unique circumstances.
Use these instructions at your own risk. We shall not hold any responsibility or liability for whatever happens to you or your device arising from your use of the info in this guide.
Read and understand the whole guide first before actually performing the instructions.
Requirements
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113
A Windows PC
Install your handset’s USB drivers on the PC. You may install the drivers by installing Samsung Kies.
Enable USB debugging on your handset.
Disable antivirus, firewall, and other security software. Also disable Samsung Kies and other software that accesses your phone. Such software can interfere with the procedure in this guide.
Download the following files to your computer:
UEBLH2 firmware update package for Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113 (P3113UEBLH2_P3113XARBLH2_XAR.zip, 785 MB)
Odin 3.04 (Odin3_v3.04.zip, 456.59 kB) (Attatched)
Make sure your device’s battery still has at least 70% power. You don’t want the device to shut down in the middle of the procedure.
Backup all personal data on your phone to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.
Instructions
Using ZIP extraction software, extract the *.tar.md5 file contained in the UEBLH2 firmware update package.
Extract the contents of Odin3_v3.04.zip to your computer.
Turn off your tablet. Make sure it is not hooked up to your PC.
Run Odin on your computer by double-clicking Odin3 v3.04.exe.
Click the PDA button in Odin and load the *.tar.md5 file contained in the UEBLH2 firmware update package that you unzipped.
Do not change any other setting in Odin. Make sure that the checkbox for “Re-partition” is not ticked.
Reboot the tablet into Download Mode by holding down the Volume Down and Power buttons until you see the warning screen. Press the Volume Up key to continue to Download Mode.
Connect the tablet to your PC via USB cable. You should see an “Added!” message on the Odin window.
Click the Start button in Odin to begin flashing the firmware to your tablet. When installation completes and succeeds, Odin will display a “PASSED” message in one of its boxes. The tablet will also automatically reboot.
If, on rebooting, the screen gets stuck at the Samsung logo, try resolving it by doing the following:
Turn off the tablet.
Boot into Recovery Mode by holding down Power and Volume Up buttons together until the screen turns on. When the Samsung logo appears, let go of the Power button but keep holding down the Volume Up button until the device boots into recovery.
In Recovery Mode, select Wipe data/Factory reset and select Yes on next screen.
Select Reboot system now to reboot the tablet
Congratulations! You’ve successfully reverted your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich build UEBLH2.

NO, not disable before downloading, disable your AV before using Odin to flash, as IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT that some AV programs can cause issues with flashing ROM's.

If you are having issues disabling your antivirus software, then don't disable it. I never disable mine. The only reason I added it to the post is because in rare cases the AV can cause issues for some reason or another.

I think you misunderstand, when flashing files VIA ODIN certain antiviruses have been known to cause issues, personally I never have but it is a standard disclaimer on ANY Device to computer connection, when doing debugging or flashing not file transfers, I see the same disclaimer on all the Droid Razr Utility builds, and most ROM's being flashed via ODIN, it's rare but it could happen.
I think the reason for disabling your AV,is because it and your pc dont know the difference. When you run a program that flashes 'firmware' like Odin,it can be detected as malicious and blocked.HTC recommends the same thing for flashing with their exe files, and thats the same reason why its recommended during most rooting process'.

Yes.... some of these are preloaded with 4.1.1.
I bought 2 of these for my daughters. 1 was defective. When I took it back, the store didn't have anymore so they sent me to a store in another city.
I ended up with one running 4.0.4 and one running 4.1.1.

[GUIDE] Root without unlocking the bootloader/wiping data

!!!THIS GUIDE IS OUTDATED AND SHOULD NOT BE FOLLOWED ANYMORE!!!
Want to use root apps, but can't be bothered to lose all your data? Here's how to root without losing data.
1. Go to settings -> Security and enable 'Unknown Sources'
2. Download this apk: http://towelroot.com/tr.apk
3. Install the apk on your phone using your favorite file manager.
4. Open it, click the button, and wait for it to auto-reboot.
5. Once restarted, download SuperSU from the playstore.
6. Once installed, open it. If it asks to update, click the 'normal' option. It'll give an error. This is good.
7. Now, download an app called TWRP Manager from the playstore.
8. Open the app and go thru with the download of busybox.
9. Open the busybox you downloaded and click on Install.
10. Now go back to the TWRP App. Grant it root permission. open it and navigate to the menu option 'Install TWRP'.
11. Select the correct device (which is: hammerhead) at the top of the menu.
12. Click the install recovery button.
13. Wait for it to do its magic.
14. Now go on your browser and download this file: download.chainfire.eu/447/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4.zip
15. Using the TWRP Manager app, go to 'Reboot Options' and reboot to recovery.
16. Once booted to TWRP, go to install, then navigate to the file you just downloaded (it's probably in the /download/ folder).
17 Swipe to install and look up at the sky.
18. Click the reboot system option once it's done.
OPTIONAL:
If you want to be able to use fastboot commands, you need to unlock the bootloader (and still retain your data).
Here's how:
1. Download an app from the play store called 'Bootunlocker for Nexus'
2. Once downloaded, open it and grant it root.
3. Hit the Unlock button, and voila, you're unlocked!
If it worked, thank this post so others can see!
Some points to bear in mind
1) do a Nandroid backup before you do anything with your new found easy root
2) put that backup somewhere off your computer
3) you still need a computer to fix things if you fubar. Do NOT do this if you don't have a computer
4) you MUST learn fastboot before doing this. Ensure you test your fastboot works. This is sometimes your only fix
5) if you refuse to read our stickies first and then fubar,, don't expect us to be all helpful and patient. If you find yourself needing help, you'd better already understand the terminology we will use in our instructions
Warning to all, noobs are going to be falling all over this and not bothering to learn sh*t. Everyone be prepared for a shed load of help threads

I only wanted root, without the permanent twrp recovery so I
1. installed tr.apk and rooted
2. installed bootunlocker for nexus devices and unlocked the bootloader
3. adb reboot bootloader
4. fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-hammerhead.img
5. flashed UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4.zip
Hmmm interesting...thinking of trying this out since it contains all of what I need....this is aweesome considering I had a ****ing S4 that if you even downgrade it then u loose IMEI...
will the op method work on a locked bootloader? I mean with flashing twrp
the guys in the original towel thread are just grabbing the SuperSU apk from the 1.99 zip and running that to install SuperSU binaries... seems way simpler if you want to keep your boot loader locked

Should do yes. I regularly flash recovery via flashify with a locked bootloader. My only worry about this is my bootloader has been relocked with the bootunlocker app so the question is whether that reflects the position that fastboot locking does and only someone testing can confirm for sure.

If you are asking whether locking the bootloader via Bootunlocker actually locks the bootloader in true sense? Yes, it does. If you want to unlock it via fastboot, you can do it but it will wipe everything as it's done via fastboot.
Besides that, fastboot oem device-info also returns "false" after you've locked the bootloader via bootunlocker.
I keep the bootloader locked always and unlock it whilst updating any mod or rom. I'm kinda warranty conscious as my device is covered under LG.
Will I be able to flash a custom kernel if I root using this method and flash kernel via flashify??
If I unlock using Bootunlocker for Nexus will it wipe my data??
P.S. I am on Stock 4.4.3 with locked bootloader

Yes, you can flash a custom kernel. No, unlocking the bootloader via Bootunlocker app doesn't wipe data.

Unlocking the bootloader from fastboot will wipe the device completely due to security reasons no matter how many times you unlock it. However, unlocking the bootloader from the bootunlocker app won't.
You can read more about it over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...p-bootunlocker-nexus-devices-version-t1731993

Want to use root apps, but can't be bothered to lose all your data? Here's how to root without losing data.

Is it worth giving an alternative method of using "flashify" to flash recovery where a user can choose to install TWRP, Philz or CWM?
