[Q] verizon phones on sprint

considering we see so many people flashing sprint phones over to say cricket or some other provider, there should be a way to flash verizon phones over to sprint right?
I am not sure how it works nor do i have the knowledge to think about how to make it work but it seems to be a possibility and if it is i would like to know how to go about doing it.
I love the sprint service but sprint is way behind in terms of getting new android phones and all they want seems like ones with external keyboards which i really dont need. Verizon on the other hand has some great phones and more that are coming. Sprint's best offering right now, the Evo seems kind of outdated considering how old it is.
so if there is a way of flashing verizon phones over to sprint and if someone has done it, please enlighten me

NO sprint will only provision phones whose esns are in their database listed as phones that they have sold. It's been discussed ad nauseum all over the interwebs.

Much as aiwetir said, Sprint is pretty strict (i.e. won't consider it at all) in bringing in non-Sprint phones. I'm told Verizon takes Sprint non-smartphones but I hear that's hit or miss. Either way, why would you want to?

[Q] What can I do with Developer edit. and...?

Hi all,
I'm waiting patiently for my 64gb developer phone which I should be getting next week. In the meantime I've been combing through the forums trying to get as much information as I can regarding the developer's edition HTC One. When I think I got the answer I'm looking for I see something else that makes me think another way. With this thread I'm hoping to get answers in one place to avoid confusion. Someone please educate me on this phone.
1. Will I be able to get 4G LTE, and or HSPA+?
2. Unlocked bootloader means I can flash roms but not kernels? How will I know which roms/kernels are the correct ones to flash for the dev edition?
3. Has anyone achieved s-off yet and if so which method is the best and easiest?
4. Tmo is going to be my carier. Whats this about Non Tmo devices needing the Tmobile 4GLTE APN added to the phone to connect to 4G LTE? Does this mean I don't have LTE (I guess it related to 1st question). And how do I add the tmo 4gLTE APN?
5. How does insurance work with unlocked phones and who do I get it from?
Sorry for all these questions. I'm fascinated and I want to be a developer one day so I'm trying to find my way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. You can get lte if your in a lte area. You will get hspa if your in a Markey with the 1900 band
2. You can flash roms kernels and radios now with s on
3. Prob no need for s off anymore
4. Put in the SIM should be auto or just Google it

I am still struggling, some people say that you will never get 3g, but yes on 4g, some other says that you will never get both of them since you are Tmobile. I can tell you, I have Tmobile wiht my HTC One Dev edition and I am getting HSDPA, and I pretty happy wiht that, but I am also worried why we are not getting 4G, so I also have started reading about that, the specs are almost the same, but it looks like the problem is the radio installed in the dev edition. So it look like if some dev are able to pull the radio out of the Tmobile HTC One version and try to adapt it or maybe directly installed in out dev edition it will work. I heard this a couple of days ago from another topic in this forum.

So 4glte runs on AWS 1700 and dev version doesn't support it unless a developer figures out how to flash it on the dev phone. Do you think that possibility is high? Thanks for the info.

Wow... when you say neither that's pretty scary. I certainly hope that's not the case. I live in NJ in a 1900 rich area. I really do hope we can get LTE and hspa+. I told my wife we are getting 4g with these new phones but I guess I read wrong. We're coming from Sprint so even if we get hspa+ it's a major improvement.

So I heard that the problem with dev version is that it has the compatibility built in hardware, but the radio which comes with the dev version doesn't support it, the problem here is that I don't know if flashing the radio from Tmobile HTC one will brick our phone.
If some developer could come to the thread and give us some answer, I don't have enough knowledge about how radios works.

You can flash it without bricking, but based on a thread in here that it doesn't work. There might be addition files other than the radio or something.

I suspect that we are going to need S-Off in order to get this working, assuming that there is not in fact some hardware difference between the dev and TMO versions. I've read the threads, but I don't know where they get their information. I have not seen anything from HTC on which hardware is in the various phones.

I have not either, but based on current information to go by that's all we have. I think the only way we could tell for sure is a complete tear down of each model, but so far that has not been accomplished. If there are any variations in the hardware we'd see them and could say "It isn't going to work". If there is no difference then it has to be software/firmware thing.

[NOOB] 4G LTE Radio Anomaly.

First post, noob post, searched the forum found things that are similar to my question but not a definite answer.
I just got my hands on an HTC ONE 64GB Developer Edition from the US and the 4G LTE frequency on it is 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz
And where I currently live the 4G LTE connectivity is 800/1800/2600 MHz.
I did some reading and found out that my device is considered as HTC ONE M7UL
And the UL falls within the 801s category and in turn that supports my 4G LTE category.
Added to that it has the same modem of MDM9125.
Taking that into consideration, is it possible to do whatever to make my phone's frequency compatible with my service provider. As for my understanding the frequencies in the device have been blocked for the US market, can I do something to make it work?
I have never flashed, rooted or did anything to an Android phone because I am completely lost and this is my first Android device coming from an iPhone.
So, your help will be much appreciated into guiding me with the correct information to help me out.

I haven't seen any posts that have tried flashing radios to change the bands supported. I'm still sceptical that it could work.
Plus, I think you read the table wrong, and I know of at least one error in that table.

Thank you for your reply...Well, I'm not certain of the error you are talking about but at least it is worth a shot to flash it!!
Will save a lot of users the hassle of waiting for another version of the phone!

From what I have read, the dev has a different supporting chip for the bands than the international version. I don't think flashing anything will help.

If only I don't have an HTC One I'm willing to get that. I too have those LTE frequencies but I'm willing to sacrifice LTE for an additional storage. But too late already have a 32gb EU version which has matching 4g frequencies for your network but meh! Only 32gb storage.

I just put an order for a Black HTC One 64GB with matching LTE frequencies. It covers 1800/2600MHz which is where I live; Bahrain is under the 1800 range.
I can never downgrade from a 64GB haha.. My ONE X+ was FULL.. 32GB would drive me crazy haha!!
Now, I think I'll hang around this form to do some flashing business, sounds like fun haha!!!
Anyway, our LTE network isn't that great because they just started up a few months back and the reception is rather poor but it spikes up to 60mbps!

That would be safe, but you may want to wait a couple of weeks to see if a solution develops to flash radios.

I'm pretty sure it is possible because it's a UL device and shares all the same features that the US/Canada/Asia/Middle East/Australia/Europe have got... So, that shouldn't be an issue.. It's a tiny little thing inside the system that needs to be smacked with a nice flash.
Hopefully, someone comes up with this ASAP and makes life much more easier to buy a device from anywhere in the world and not get screwed like me!!:good:

There was a post that showed pictures of a couple of different variants of the One. They had a different support chip that worked with the generic radio chip. So there is a possibility that hardware may keep the variants from cross flashing. We just don't know. It is also possible that it is simply software flashing somewhere in the various partitions.
If we get a US T-Mobile RRU and it gets to be flashed over a different model, then we will know.

Awesome. I'm also interested in this. I got the US Developer version but live in Asia (but travel to the US often). Would be nice to use LTE in both places with the same phone. I absolutely love this phone though. Much nicer than my S3...

I went with the TMO model rather than Dev, but it would be great to be able to flash for whatever region of the world that is desired. Hopefully it will happen!

Don't understand how gsm version has full functioning leak, the Google play version and now today the butterfly had official update to 4.2.2 sense 5....I mean come on this is the new flag ship for HTC and we (sprint) can't get official update, leak or nothing...ugh....rant over

INTERNATIONAL variants are receiving their 4.2.2 updates.No one in the states has an official build or a leaked US build last I checked. The bulk of international carriers used GSM. These devices differ from the U.S. GSM devices but in most cases can easily be chopped up and hacked to be put on U.S. variants (see AT&T one x+ for proof that it does not always work....).
HTC is a company NOT based in the U.S. and we are NOT their primary source of income therefore we are not their top priority. Additionally U.S. Carriers have MUCH more control compared to international carriers and are usually the cause of a hold up on official updates. Complaining we don't have a leak means HTC and the carriers are doing their job stopping untested and un proven builds from entering the hands of users,
Being on a CDMA phone that is NOT on verizon as of yet it is impossible to have much hope of leaks or work for the devices as we are on the #4 carrier in the United States (or #3 depending how you want to look at it). In many phones cases we get the GSM version ported only as long as it is simple to do for the developers.

Do keep in mind though that Sprint, while #4 in size has traditionally only been a step or so behind GSM carriers, especially when compared to Verizon, in releasing their updates. Little Yellow tends to beat Big Red in that regard by comfortable margins.

Definitely. Sprint has been on top of updates. The only reason we see delays is because it's not a one-sided thing, the carrier AND manufacturer have to work together on it.

Not even close to being close to the same phone.
Also, everyone should nkow that GSM is an old outdated technology. CDMA is newer and better. The only downside is you would need the Qualcomm SoC (forget which one but the ELTE has it), like that you can do SVD. But GSM is just plain horrible, and old. Yes, Sprint has had issues for the passed three years (isolated ones, nothing major). But you need to remember that Sprint has always been the first for everything. They took a huge hit back with the whole Clearwire, WiMax, GPS + airplanes issue. They fixed the issue, and we have had to suffer a slight loss of 3G bandwidth due to it.
They are once more becoming the first with yet another feat, the Netwok Vision upgrade. All frequencies... One band. I mean, if you guys could understand the complexity (and sheer AWESOMENESS) of what is being done, you wouldn't give a crap that you are down one revision of one OS, 4.1.2 -> 4.2.2 ... Big whoop. The only thing getting that upgrade means is you can put new widgets in new places? And no source for kernel dropped? Which even when the source drops, bluetooth will be broken. That takes alot of time from the devs to cook in working bluetooth after theyve been giving a borked copy of the source. So now, put those last bits together... As the kernel is where the party is at. 4.2.2? BIG WHOOP. 4.2.2 with stock kernel... I would rather be on ICS with Anthrax.
Stop crying/worrying/wondering/caring/w-e about the update... Just download an app that does whatever you need from 4.2.2, and enjoy. And yes, there is an app to do whatever you may need... There's an app for that.
In the off-chance that somehow there is no app for it (there will be an app for it), learn to make an app, and make the app alert you of things you want done, but there are no apps for it yet. By the time you get that app out, we will be on Sprint 4.2.2 Sense5, custom kernel, and still the same fracking radio.img! (A new radio is the only thing I can see as an upgrade for this phone).

I just want the kernel so we can run the GE. Love sense but love simplicity too. And before anyone links to an aosp Rom or CM... I mean something fully functional with everything working AS IT SHOULD.

New Radio is all that matters to me. If 4.2.2 comes with it then that's great but the radio is what I seek and will determine if I move on.. So I too want this update ASAP.

You realize LTE is the progression of GSM? Where did you get your information CDMA is a superior technology. Qualcomm abandoned their extension of CDMA into the 4G realm. I'm pretty sure you're misinformed.
What Sprint is doing with their NV upgrades is good, but I can assure you CDMA isn't where you want to be.

The only thing getting that upgrade means is you can put new widgets in new places? And no source for kernel dropped? Which even when the source drops, bluetooth will be broken. That takes alot of time from the devs to cook in working bluetooth after theyve been giving a borked copy of the source. So now, put those last bits together... As the kernel is where the party is at. 4.2.2? BIG WHOOP. 4.2.2 with stock kernel... I would rather be on ICS with Anthrax.
Stop crying/worrying/wondering/caring/w-e about the update... Just download an app that does whatever you need from 4.2.2, and enjoy. And yes, there is an app to do whatever you may need... There's an app for that.
In the off-chance that somehow there is no app for it (there will be an app for it), learn to make an app, and make the app alert you of things you want done, but there are no apps for it yet. By the time you get that app out, we will be on Sprint 4.2.2 Sense5, custom kernel, and still the same fracking radio.img! (A new radio is the only thing I can see as an upgrade for this phone).

Your comment about GSM being outdated and inferior to CDMA is probably one of the most ludicrous claims I have ever seen.... Especially when LTE we all want so badly is based off of this technology and is REQUIRED for it to work.... Hence the added SIM cards in Sprint and Verizon phones.... That single fact alone makes your comment flat out wrong.

no data cm13

I've been running cm13 for a couple of days now without major issues. Yesterday it randomly dropped lte and it hasn't returned...
I tried clearing cache and dalvik, prl and profile updates, re-flashing the system and still nothing. I thought the sim might be bad but i flashed a stock based rom and data worked on it... Signalcheck says "unregistered" for data status which originally made me think sim card. And i don't think it's the version of nightly because it worked for like 20 hours straight... I just flashed the newest nightly and still nothing. Any ideas?

Don't use Sprint, because I am in NL. But after flashing rom's I delete stuff we don't use/need.
A.o. Sprint, Verizon and Project Fi stuff.
So possibly you need a stock rom instead of CM.

Are you saying you are the dev for cm13 on nexus and refuse to support 2 of the 5 only US carriers?

Many people dont support those 2 carriers. This is due to them having to use closed sourced files for their devices as CDMA is an oput dated network that still uses alot of closed sourced stuff for the phone.
This is the same reason those carriers normally dont carry or allow nexus devices on their network.

In that case it would be great if cyanogenmod said that those carriers aren't supported on either their website or thread or... Anywhere really

It all really depends on the maintainer. Also most over look it as for a long time no one worked with cdma devices. Even xda was mostly GSM devices.
It's really common knowledge that cdma carriers have issues with nexus devices. Even aosp doesn't really support cdma. Not completely anyway.

Common knowledge?! I've been on XDA for over 4 years and never have i seen oversight like this... Granted the nexus 6 is the first GSM+CDMA device I've had, but this "common knowledge" should be stated on their site so that the 50% of USA users who use CDMA carriers don't waste their time with ROMs from DEVS who dont think 200 MILLION USA CDMA subscribers are worth their time. If Cyanogenmod isn't going to cater to costumers of, Sprint the most accessible unlimited carrier in the US, which has done every effort to keep their closed source network as accessible to manufacturers as possible making a non-branded or bloated nexus in their lineup for 2 years in a row, nor is it going to cater to costumers of Verizon, the most widely available, most reliable, best coverage albeit most closed and expensive carrier there is, THEN they should post in their site that they will not cater to the 50% of US market so we can look elsewhere for our community needs.
Furthermore if you're not involved with development of Cyanogenmod (i don't know if you are or not) you shouldn't be trying to speak on their behalf if you don't know the facts. They might be working to fix the issue.

You have never seen any of the articles on why sprint or Verizon didn't carry the nexus device?
Never seen many of the posts about Verizon refusing to activate nexus devices on their network?
Sprint to be honest is the bottom of the pile when it comes to networks.
As for CM. No I don't work for them nor would I ever work for them. They are a joke. Just look back how they bricked a bunch of nexus 6 devices by not testing code. They have stated many times why cdma are not really supported. Not to mention most of them don't use cdma.
As for what I know. I know aosp (which roms are based off of) do not support cdma. That is the biggest issue. Can't have an aosp based rom with closed sourced parts. Just look at all the devices they have released with cm as the main os. All of them are GSM. Which most of the world uses. Very few still use the old cdma system.

I have seen the posts about verizon and i hate verizon too anywho, sprint tries their best, and to be honest i think they want to make their stuff open source but it's qualcom's IP ultimately. i like sprint coz i get unlimited for the cheapest price point out of a tower owning operator AND until recently they were the only ones not throttling their unlimited plans. i can see why AOSP wouldn't support CDMA an OPEN SOURCE project wouldnt play well with closed source stuff, but throught the years i've never had problems with CM on my SPRINT devices. i guess i'll go to a stock based rom until they can figure their poop out over at CM.
