Will the ONE get S-Off? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The HTC ONE is s-on for now..
But any ideas, if it will get s-off anytime?
Because the developer version is s-on too.. I heard devs like koush ( from rom manager ) wanted to maintain the device for CM.. but they are not sure about the s-off status.. what is your take on this?
Shall we write to @htcusa @htc and @htcdev about this?
Thanks!

most qualcomm devices will get s-off

I thought the Dev Version was already S-off? Damn.
But since it's a qualcomm device, and a phone that is sort of a "MUST HACK" device for devs and a "MUST HAVE" device for consumers, then I believe S-off for the One wouldn't take too long Just my 2 cents..

yeah... the htc one x was a tegra device and honestly it has so many glaring issues in the beginning like the battery life while the One manages to fix most of them making this a great phone for many more consumers and even developers as Samsung have now pissed off most of the good developers... codeworx is also getting the device which is amazing news.

The battery life of the One X at launch was PURELY just software, these days most of us get more than 4.5+ hours of screen on, even my S3 couldn't achieve that, lol.
Anyways, going back on topic, I think I read somewhere that the One already has S-off! I'm not sure if it was a dream or if it really was true but I'll do my best to find it again.

ICS roms

Is there any custom ICS roms? sorry for sounding stupid but I cant find any.
Seems like there are 2 available and the developers have moved away from xda. One is made by Pirateghost and called Rum Float: http://blog.androidninjas.com/rom-dev/htc-vivid/rum-float/
The other is made by WildChild and you have to register to see the vivid section here: http://www.wcxxperia-nce.com/
Anyone tried these custome ROMS?
Hey, has anyone tried these custome ROMS, I would like to get something without AT&T apps included......
wildchild has a generic one that has all the att stuff removed

I have PG's Rum Float Beta4, updated from Beta2. No bloat and ofcourse rooted, really like it.
He has his own web site, if you search for Rum Float, it should pop up.

Hi xda,
It would seem that I've jumped into this a little late, but what happened to make all the cooks leave xda and ignore the Vivid, Velocity etc.
Sorry but I've been away from xda for about 12 months while living in Blackberry-land.
I'd really like an ICS ROM for my Velocity without HTC's bastard 'Sense' bloatness.
Also - is getting root access to the Velocity as easy as it was for the HD2?
Cheers;

CM9 port is being worked on. Check the dev thread. Other than that, there are Sense ICS ROM's available, just not many here.. at this point.
As far as what happened, no need to stir up bad memories Look through some of the threads from last month and you'll figure it out. In the mean time, follow the golden rule, and the rules of the forum, and maybe they'll start trickling back in

I am using Wild Childs at&t build of ics. It is awesome! He did an outstanding job with the rom. Silky smooth, looks like stock without the bloat! Plus with the mods here in the forums like extended menu, signal icon changer, and some other mods you can't beat it. This phone rocks hard!

IMO its the lesser of all evils. Every brand has their own "skin". So even if you prefer AOSP, you might as well get the brand with the best looking and best functioning skin. Of course there is the nexus phones, but those aren't for everyone.

Agreed. I just don't know that I could talk myself into the investment of a device that runs software that I hated, with the possibility of not be able to change it. Granted there are things being worked on now (CM9), but let's be real, this phone was released in November and to this point we haven't seen anything Sense-less (for reasons beyond the dev's control - just got kernel source 10 days ago fcs), it would be very tough for me to buy the device at this point if I hated Sense . I don't know how long shayla's had theirs though...

S-off discussion

Starting this thread for any discussion of the s-off tool in development or s-off talk in general. Hopefully this will help keep the development thread clear of chatter.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Good idea, I wish there was more of this on XDA.
Perhaps if for each development project there was a dedicated thread for chatter, expressions of thanks, etc people would feel more comfortable using it.
Development threads might not grow to thousands of entries, with almost 0% of the entries actually about development.
I'm new here, post count is very low - but my posting habits won't change when I eventually get to 10 posts - unless I do get around to actually doing some Android development I can't see a reason for posting in the dev area.
I guess though that some dev's may prefer it the way it is, as a sign of recognition, or something...
Russell
thank you for doing this, i was just thinking the same thing
Yay we can yap! ..lol.. is it done yet? Jk..i hope we get it soon. I hate being left behind on GB cuz of my non-upgraded bootloader..
Sent from my HTC Raider X710e using Chuck Norris.
Honestly you are not missing much imo. GB was so damn efficient I don't see a huge revolutionary change. ICS is very smooth and fast with the help of the developers many to be named I don't want to leave anyone out. But don't feel like you're so far behind bc you are not. Only recently has there been a few more roms to try out.
will s-off make it say easier to get ASOP type roms on to this phone?
Not necessarily, but it will work for all devices (vivid, holiday, velocity) with no porting and wou will be able to flash everything right from your phone, no computer needed.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Having s-off has its advantages. Having being part of the beta I can tell its great.
The best for it is being really for developing New Roms and aosp. Makes a lot less of a hassle to flash New kernels and firmware.
I'm sure we won't have to wait much longer for the beta to be over, its a fairly simple process but they have to make sure its foolproof so we don't have a lot of bricks like we suffered with the ota release that happened.

CM10 Development

I am thinking of selling my Velocity, not that I really want to love the thing, however the security restraints and general hard to develop nature of this device is turning me off HTC.
So get to the point you ask
Just putting it out there its not a request, demand by any means I just wanna know if there is anything CM10 in the pipe line due for release soon or is it to hard because of the bad HTC code and security.
I would like to keep the Velocity but there are easier devices out there.
Anything cm10 wise will be at tootz, which you know is on hold...don't think anyone here is really building from source...maybe in the future I may give it a try...but idk

Sounds like a good idea...I've never attempted to build from source, but I have a guy in the infuse section that's gonna walk me through it, gonna get a new 1tb hard drive on Sunday...500gb for windows and 500gb for ubuntu-that should give me plenty of room for building from source as I hear it takes like 20gb just for one build...once I get started ill be happy to help you
What little knowledge I have is decompiling apks and doing minor edits to xml and smali files (for tweaks) unfortunately none of that knowledge does me any good here on the vivid as I can't seem to get apktool to work with the vivid :/

Not a good idea man. HTC has gone too far with locking things down, but Samsung has started on that path. They locked down the Verizon GS3 (it's been cracked, but still) and people are having huge issues with flashing. Many of the dual core GS3's are losing their IMEI after flashing. The grass doesn't look much greener on the other side anymore.

I'm going to see how I like mine by Christmas time, in which I'm buying a Nexus if I don't like it by then. It's not just htc for me it's nexus or nothing from now on. We have a pretty common chipset, we should have a development forum filled with aosp and aokp roms but we don't? Why? Because security is off the chain. It's a taste of things to come honestly. By next year look for android phones to be completely locked down with almost no updates anymore. They are becoming the new feature phones.
But HTCs s thing is ridiculous. It's another hurdle that doesn't exist on every other manufacturer. My captivate was completely unlocked from the factory, rooting took 5 minutes and you kept your data.

Depends entirely on what your experience is. There's a big difference between learning to cook having never cooked a thing in your life, and learning to cook French cuisine if you're already a master sushi chef.
I'll play it safe and say I've never cooked a thing in my life, but my dad is also a system engineer and could help if I needed it. I'd rather learn without his help.

Start with an RUU. Run the RUU on your PC. Stop at the first screen after it's done loading, don't proceed, but don't close the window. Start/Run and type %TEMP% and hit enter (this will take you to your user temp folder). Sort the folders by date and open the newest. Here you should find Rom.zip. Use this as your base ROM in the kitchen. Root it, deodex it (or not), zipalign it, etc - and you end up with a flashable ROM from an RUU

Time for a good bye :D

Hi Guys
Its been 2.5 years on a journey with my Incredible S and Finally I moved on coz of battery and Housing issues.. Its been legendary on this forum for seeing such an awesome development starting from Gingerbread to all the way to KitKat. This has been my first Android Phone and I learnt all the terminologies of Rooting, Bootloader and cfw's Thanks to my Incredible S for that
Being a HTC FanBoy, I took the HTC One M7 and Mahn thats one awesome phone There are already lots of Roms there and hope to see like Incredible S
Finally Thanks to Nik and @szezso for their awesome dedication to this forum..
I may not be a significant person here.. but I made one significant contribution to this forum I was the one who first suggested that Nik Can donate the Incredible S that ws given to him to to @szezso (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45797657&postcount=418) which inturn led to idea of donating the Incredible S by one of members.. Kit Kat was impossible without that donation by that legendary member
At last.. Bye People.. I will still be a regular to this forum but I am gonna Bookmark HTC One Page now

I also moved on, bought an Xperia Z1 Compact because of hardware and size. Build qualiti is nothing compared to HTC. My One Mini i had for busines - i also loved it. I gave it to my mom to make her happy after she struggled with Xcover for years... XD
For my IncS i ordered some repair parts to use it as backup phone.
...Should have bought HTC again...

My last exam is in 3 days. Then I'm gonna become a bookworm for about 10 months... No summer... No fun... :crying:
@Rah0ol, even though I am a new person here, it doesn't feel good to see you go. I hope you enjoy your new phone to its full extent.
Now that you are going, you won't be able to test my 3.4 kernel (if I am able to build one, that is)
