[TOOL]smw6180 Superwipe - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Superwipe script for the Sprint HTC One.
Disclaimer: I've tested the hell out of this but I am not perfect. This should not cause any data loss aside from what's involved in a normal wipe. However you use this at your own risk.
What this script does:
This will wipe /data, /devlog, /cache, /system, /boot to prepare your phone for installation of a new ROM. It will also optimally format all of the above (except /data) for speed.
After MUCH testing and nuking of my internal storage (SD Card), I have now fixed this script so that no harm will come to any data on your internal storage. It will wipe everything else. As always I recommend backing things up (including external storage) before running any kind of wipe, whether it be within TWRP/Clockwork, this script, or any other script.
Please report any issues or errors to me and I'll fix them asap.
Edit:
Thanks to @tdhite for his new update-binary, I've finally gotten around to updating this. I can't test it anymore as I no longer have the Sprint version of the device, however the only change I made was the update-binary so it should be fine. As it says above, use at your own risk.

I have it downloaded.. I have not used a superwipe in quite a while.. Probably since 4g days.
King Format all or something like that.

I might need to update it. I don't have the phone yet and Viper may or may not have had an issue. So expect an update (at least to fix the text formatting which I'm told looks like hell).

"This script will wipe /boot /data /system /devlog /cache."
"This script will also optimally format the above partitions to achieve the best possible file system speeds."
very nice script....you only want to run this script b4 flashing a ROM

I'm removing the download for now. Viper has identified an issue...it won't hurt anything, but it's definitely not wiping data like it should be. I know why and I'll fix it, but I need to test it first so I don't accidentally wipe peoples' SD Cards.

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but I believe the HTC One doesn't have or support an SDCARD.

Id say its quite the issue if its wiping SD cards then. Mainly because it would have to be wiping something to think its wiping an sd.

Correct, to an extent. It doesn't have an external sd, but the phone still references your storage as sdcard. It resides in /data/media but is symlinked to /sdcard.
The issue with superwipe is that it normally could just wipe data on a fresh flash, but if you do that, good bye all your files. But Steve has a fix for it, I verified it. He'll get it going later today I'm sure

It doesn't wipe the SD card in its current form. It just doesn't fully work. I'm on it, as soon as UPS drops off my phone.

Got the phone, it's unlocked, recovery on it...before I even flash a ROM I'm working on the superwipe script. Should have it fully functional in the next hour or so (2 minutes to fix the code, and 58 minutes to make it pretty.

Script is fixed and the download link is active again. Thanks for your patience folks!

While flashing it hung on checking system. I let it sit for 50% of the battery life before I got worried and press and held the power button until the device booted back up

I've seen that happen (on the Evo 4G LTE) on rare occasions. I've never had it happen to me. From what other users have said in the past, reboot recovery and reflash works.

Thanks for this Steve. I remember you from the 3D. Nice work!

Has anyone ever flashed another rom directly over serendipity 6.4?

Looking for data about flashing rom over other roms and their status of being stable. Feel free to tell whatever. Thank you.

Yes. Try the serendipity q&a thread.
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.
Thanks but I was hoping I could get serial flasher who flashes over this rom only to help me with this experiment. This experiment is only for froyo and not gingerbread.

I did, I flashed over serendipity and went to continuum. Serendipity works with ginger bread boot loaders.

Sigh...don't worry about gingerbread bootloaders unless you going to gingerbread. He was just saying the new bootloaders are backward compatible, why he brought that up idk.
Otherwise in cwm wipe data/factory rest, wipe cache, go into advanced wipe dalvik. Flash whatever froyo rom you want.
Thanks! Very much appreciated.
but I'm still looking for flasher who actually done it to list what type of rom they flash over serendipity and if it work properly.
I know some people who flashes and got good results and some with poor result.

I gave you that suggestion because that's what I do I have been to stock like 6 times. Total. Flashed every rom over every rom.
If you have any problems after you flash over it, just flash back to stock like you normally do.

I don't really know what you are expecting to hear. A rom will wipe system/data/cache/dalvik so technically it IS a fresh rom. Flashing over an old rom doesn't affect ANYTHING in regards to the actual rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z
That is what I'm researching because others claim flashing over roms causes the new rom to not work properly while others have no problems at all. Then there are others who flashes back and forth to the same rom before and notice it doesn't work like it's suppose to when they had it the first time around.
Let me ask you...could it be titanium backup or bad flash. Could never really understand what a bad flash is technically.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
lets put this into perspective, and think of it like your home computer.
on your phone, you have a few partitions. lets think of these combined, representing your C drive
/system /data /cache /datadata (these are the main ones to focus on)
when you format to load a new OS, there is NOTHING remaining of the OLD OS that could possibly cause conflicts. because essentially the drive is clean after the format and you load the new OS, and never see any traces of the old OS on the drive.
if you look at the update-script located in every single CWM flashable zip file, you will see a few things.
Code:
format SYSTEM:
format CACHE:
format DATA:
format DATADATA:
then after that you should see:
Code:
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
copy_dir PACKAGE:data DATA:
copy_dir PACKAGE:updates TMP:/updates
this creates the new partitions, essentially for the system and data
as you can see, the rom flash will wipe the OLD system and data off and put a new one on. what is left from the old rom???
That about covers it lol
Thank you very much! So if some thing goes wrong then it's pretty much the file which results in a bad flash.

the only reason to go back to stock with ODIN prior to flashing is if you wanted to repartition and reset the file system. i did it many times while working on the Andromeda builds, because I wanted to make sure that coming from stock people would get the appropriate filesystem configuration and setup
Is there any problems you would encounter if you didn't have your partitions and file systems reset?

very unlikely with the 2.2/2.2.1 roms. the kernel devs are pretty much all on the same page with using similar lagfixes that offer compatibility across the board. think of using ODIN and going back to stock as a last resort. 'when all else fails' type of thing
You said very unlikely. Its that part that I'm more interested in. The part that causes us to odin back to stock. When all else fail
Is there something that we do or is it the results from flashing too much that causes our partitions and file systems to go out.
Doesn't flashing reset our files systems and partitions?
Just letting you know that I am very grateful for your time and input. Your elaboration and explanation. You are helping way more than you know.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
It's not caused by flashing too much, as far as your phone is concerned each fish is its first because it wipes first thing.
sometimes something just doesn't write correctly in cwm, for any number of reasons. thats whats known as a "bad flash." but that can be solved by a reflash. you would need odin if say the battery were to die during a flash and all you get is the "phone....!.....pc" screen

Epinter's CM10 on ICS + JB (Lateral Flash from RAZRHD ROM)

I was simply curious and discovered that this RAZR HD ROM works (almost perfectly!) on my AHD running ICS. I assume this should fully work for JB, because it's made for that kernel. So if you're on JB, please try it and let us know.
>> Use Safestrap SLOT-1 to flash Epinter's rom: http://www.linuxmobile.org/razrhd/cm10
If your WIFI won't turn on, replace the drivers with the correct files from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2107662
Developers/Coders: How do we get the sensors working on ICS?? I've tried like mad to replace with stock-ics drivers, but I really don't know what I'm doing

Is this the error message you guys are talking about? Also are you flashing to a freshly wiped (cache, dalvik, sys, factory data) slot or over an existing rom (i.e. dirty and not recommended)?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580902
If that's the bug then there is a fix for it, but I didn't encounter that at all on ics.
Clean flash. I have already seen that guide but we don't have partitioning in SS.
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
Damn this encryption bug. I did not see that coming due to simply being on JB.
I saw another thread say that removing the microsd and rebooting a couple of times might get you past the error message. This isn't ideal and reinserting would probably bring it back, but if it works we could then determine if all the sensors work on JB.
Nothing works on my side either I tried reboots w/o SD and tried booting off another ROM and then installing no-go

Yeah that solution seems impractical. I think a simpler solution would be to work around the internal "sdcard." I'd remove anything that involves mounting/reading that area (/data/media) and see if it boots up then. I took a look at Batakang's init files and I noticed that his omit the /storage lines that this CM10 includes.
But my first priorities are these two cpa exams on the 14th and 28th. I've been wasting too much time on this new phone :/

This boots up just fine. The ROM creator himself says it can be flashed with Safestrap: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993888
The issue is getting past the "Encryption Unsuccessful" message for those on JB. From what I've read it's because the internal sdcard cannot fully read. (Maybe a factory reset & SD wipe via stock would help by erasing any encrypted data?)

No. Its because we use a bootstrap recovery. I don't think its SS compatible because the Encryption Unsuccessful error only happens because of the incompatibility.

boot looping when I update with Viperboy 1.1.0

I am rooted on a Sprint One and had stock HTC. Then downloaded the Viperrom 1.0.4 and had no trouble get it on, did not loose any of my settings or folders. Now when I download and try to run the viper 1.1.0 zip, it does the install and starts up shows my walpaper and icons appropriately, then crashes and constant reboots to the same point. Able to get on to recovery and reinstall the back up i had made with no rpoblems.
What do I need to do? If I wipe, what do i wipe? Have TWRP.
Will I loose all my settings and data?

Under advanced wipe select the first 4(dalvik,cache,system,data).
Then reflash the Rom.
You will lose settings.
Thanks, will try that in the morning.
Is there anyway we can save settings and restore them after upgrades?

I did the same thing as you. Mine got caught in a bootloop, I couldn't get the damn thing to force restart either. The bottom home & back key just kept flashing no matter how long I held it. I had to wait forever for the battery to die. I think something might be wrong with the restart fail safe HTC built in. So I relocked it, flashed back to stock, go to sprint store of course it reboots perfect every time. The people at the store are morons I hate going there. The guy says to me you just hold it down and the restart menu will come up. I'm like if the phone is frozen that doesn't work. None the less I don't expect them to replace something that is working. So I re-unlocked, cleared everything and installed latest build fresh works great haven't had any issue. I didn't back up either so I had to re set everything up which takes forever. I'm not a fan of restoring backups anyway as it can cause issues. I will be doing a nandroid next time and be more careful with dirty flashing. I always dirty flashed on MeanBean on my LTE without issues and Mike made it very clear when dirty update was not advised. In my opinion they shouldn't release a major update that will bootloop a phone over goo manger. It's still my fault but I didn't think twice about it when I tried to update viper. It still pisses me off that I have to fight with it to get the phone to reboot, the entire point of a fail safe is incase something goes wrong. It's the first time I have ever bootlooped a phone.

Thanks all, I am just where I was. so many opinions and would like to have a concensus.
It won't wipe internal unless you specifically check it in advanced. Never wipe internal, but davlic, cache, data and system are fine and constitutes a full wipe..you should always wipe that way when trying different roms or going to a new base. Or use a superwipe script to make things easier.

4.3 Storage Problems?

Hey guys, I'm new to the one coming from an s4, and after learning all the necessary things I flashed a 4.3 custom Rom over the stock 4.1.2 that I had. Now I've got a massive amount (19.89 gb) of storage from 'other'... I tried deleting certain files that I thought were the culprit(data/media) but after trying to with box Rom toolbox pro and root explorer I have been unsuccessful in removing the folders, they just stick there no matter what I do, even after deleting them all twice over and rebooting several times. Now I've noticed that if I move a file into the 0 folder then suddenly the pictures show up in the gallery after a reboot. However there are still files I don't need and want to get rid of. Anyone for helping?

I've already read through that one, it doesn't help as it seems I cannot delete the folders, outside of data/media/0 as these all persist after a reboot, even after deleting them. File manager says finished deleting and then I reboot, still there, still taking up 7 gb extra space.

yep
looks like im using this phone with only an accessable 2 gigabytes for now. Bummer Hummer
Hate to be that guy, but back everything up (helium for apps and app data, move all media to a computer) and factory reset. It's a pain, I know, but it almost certainly will fix the problem.
I had the save problem, I used a usb otg thing and copied what I wanted, did a factory reset and formatted my storage in twrp, now all is good and transferred the stuff back to the phone storage

This seems to be the only fix, I've tried everything else. Seems it was an issue from going from 4.1.2 to to 4.2.2 also
Ive tried a factory reset, clockwork mod wipe, deleting root folders and nothing works!! :crying: Ill try the twrp format though. because right now i have 11gb in my "other" folder!
UPDATE: holy poop guys that was the most scary bricking Ive ever dealt with!!!!! whatever you guys do, dont format EVERYTHING like I did!!!!

I've been dancing around using the TWRP "format data" option as well, so you are advising against that huh? Why, was it a little more than just factory reset type deal? I need to find a solution to this issue and I know that resetting is the answer, just need to find the best way to go about it. Thanks for the update, and I would love to hear what exactly you went through selecting the TWRP format option!

I formatted EVERYTHING in twrp haha the only way I got my phone back was to downgrade twrp to 2.5.0.0 and use abd sideload ( sideloaded my viper rom) with the htc toolkit program on my pc. And now my "other" folder says 2 gb which I believe is correct. :good: But now I have another problem I went into recovery and installed a zip file that modified the amount of steps i had in my volume, (I have already installed it before and it worked great) now my phone is in a bootloop and Ive already tried flashing a new boot image but it doesn't work....what do i do?
UPDATE: I guess i warned against it because I thought i ruined my phone. Also, I just sideloaded viper rom again to fix my problem

Well think my phone is borked

I unlocked from HTC Dev, rebooted it, and got constant error messages saying Unfortunately Blinkfeed has stopped, I mean constant as in I couldnt use the phone because the message wouldn't go away. So I rebooted again, and now it is stuck on the white htc ONE screen. Held power button down for 5 minutes and it won't reboot. Guess I'll have to wait until the power dies, try to reboot into recovery and do a factory wipe, assuming the LCD doesn't have a burn in by then.
Well got it to reboot into recovery, did a factory reset, same issue. Only white logo, so I did a wipe, guess I accidently wiped the OS, because now it says no OS installed. Going to see if I can return it at best buy, since it seems no one has a sprint rom yet and I have no phone...

Dude why didn't you have a backup for when this happen, you was supposed to have a twrp backup on your sdcard as soon as you install the custom recovery. So when stuff like this happen you can easily restored your previous backup, Well lesson learned though...
Edit: I'll see if I can send you a clean twrp backup

Normally I do, but I was excited for this phone, and exhausted from being at work all day, so I forgot. A backup would be much appreciated.

Going to upload it to my drop box and send it via pm hold on...
Edit: Twrp backup is over 2gb so it may take sometime, I'm 7ziping it now
Edit2:uploading to drop box now, like I say may take sometime, I got it to compress to little over 1gb...

As far as rebooting your phone with the power button, I believe it's now done with power+volume up. Try that and see if you have any luck. It'll at least get you back to the bootloader and let you power off your phone for the time being.

Anyway I could bother you for a copy of your TWRP backup? I messed up my phone last friday and have been working in the thread "Stock Rom or Any" to try and get it working again.
Thanks

Well let's see, make a twrp backup in recovery on your sdcard first then switch the files you download from the dropbox to where twrp backup on sdcard, proceed to wipe data, cache, dalvik and system, then restore the twrp backup. Hope this helps...

Pretty Easy.
1. Go into recovery
2. Perform a backup
3. Look at were the backup is, it should be something like SDCard:/TWRP/BACKUPS/Fa0914015051/ (Fa394052) I think is random per phone.
4. put unzipped folder in the Fa9030492409325 folder
5. go to restore then you will find the folder. It can be named anything as long as it is in that folder on the SD card.
