4.3 Storage Problems? - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hey guys, I'm new to the one coming from an s4, and after learning all the necessary things I flashed a 4.3 custom Rom over the stock 4.1.2 that I had. Now I've got a massive amount (19.89 gb) of storage from 'other'... I tried deleting certain files that I thought were the culprit(data/media) but after trying to with box Rom toolbox pro and root explorer I have been unsuccessful in removing the folders, they just stick there no matter what I do, even after deleting them all twice over and rebooting several times. Now I've noticed that if I move a file into the 0 folder then suddenly the pictures show up in the gallery after a reboot. However there are still files I don't need and want to get rid of. Anyone for helping?

I've already read through that one, it doesn't help as it seems I cannot delete the folders, outside of data/media/0 as these all persist after a reboot, even after deleting them. File manager says finished deleting and then I reboot, still there, still taking up 7 gb extra space.

yep
looks like im using this phone with only an accessable 2 gigabytes for now. Bummer Hummer

Hate to be that guy, but back everything up (helium for apps and app data, move all media to a computer) and factory reset. It's a pain, I know, but it almost certainly will fix the problem.

I had the save problem, I used a usb otg thing and copied what I wanted, did a factory reset and formatted my storage in twrp, now all is good and transferred the stuff back to the phone storage

This seems to be the only fix, I've tried everything else. Seems it was an issue from going from 4.1.2 to to 4.2.2 also

Ive tried a factory reset, clockwork mod wipe, deleting root folders and nothing works!! :crying: Ill try the twrp format though. because right now i have 11gb in my "other" folder!
UPDATE: holy poop guys that was the most scary bricking Ive ever dealt with!!!!! whatever you guys do, dont format EVERYTHING like I did!!!!

I've been dancing around using the TWRP "format data" option as well, so you are advising against that huh? Why, was it a little more than just factory reset type deal? I need to find a solution to this issue and I know that resetting is the answer, just need to find the best way to go about it. Thanks for the update, and I would love to hear what exactly you went through selecting the TWRP format option!

I formatted EVERYTHING in twrp haha the only way I got my phone back was to downgrade twrp to 2.5.0.0 and use abd sideload ( sideloaded my viper rom) with the htc toolkit program on my pc. And now my "other" folder says 2 gb which I believe is correct. :good: But now I have another problem I went into recovery and installed a zip file that modified the amount of steps i had in my volume, (I have already installed it before and it worked great) now my phone is in a bootloop and Ive already tried flashing a new boot image but it doesn't work....what do i do?
UPDATE: I guess i warned against it because I thought i ruined my phone. Also, I just sideloaded viper rom again to fix my problem

Can't wipe my SGS

Hi Folks,
I am not new to this forum and i successfully flashed and tested out several custom ROMs. And yes, I know, I am still a Noob
But I have a weird problem now...
It doesn't matter which ROM I flash, my device won't get wiped. Well yes, I messed up my Nandroid backups, but:
I tried several kernels, ROMs and bootloaders. Even with the ones from samfirmware.com.
I tried it via Recovery and via the Android settings. And I've got all these old folders and files which don't get deleted when you uninstall an app. I'd really like to have a clean phone.
I know, it's a luxury problem, but it is very annoying.
So, could anyone please point me to some direction?
Thanks in Advance!
Cheers, berkley

Exact!!!
Well wipe does not wipe everything. I think to do what you are asking you need to format the internal SD card right after or maybe before a flash. That won't do the system stuff (I believe) but just the user area. The apks should recreate what they need afterwards.
But I haven't done it for a long time so don't trust me 100%. But that should do it and if you are flashing after it should clean it all up even if something useful got lost.

Use sd card maid to find legacy folders and for general clean up, amazing app

All data will be wiped if you flash with Odin with PIT-file and 'Re-partition' ticked.
Sent from hell to take your soul
could also try using the format internal SD card from the phones menu.
Does that mean that even a full reset doesn't wipe everything?
Full reset as done via punching in *2767*3855# on the dialer.
Hi Guys,
thanks for your nice words and help. I really don't know what was wrong. And I really don't know, what has fixed it!!! But now everything is working again. Thanks a ton!!!

How to completely wipe the Note?

Might sound like a stupid question here. Every time I factory wipe using CWM (of course, safe kernel), all of my pictures still remain.
Upon a reset, if I install a apk that has a large in game download (GTA), the files where never deleted. The game will simply load right away.
I'm not restoring the phone through TB either. What other way is there to delete everything? I'm currently running RR8.
This question is mostly curiosity. Curious to know how much is left behind everytime I reset the phone and start from scratch.

Cheers.
Alternatively, mount it as usb storage to pc to format your internal sd, then perform factory reset to clear the data partition.

[Q] formatting internal SD card

It's always so scary posting on forums like this but I did multiple searches and couldn't seem to find my answer so here I am.
I have just flashed from ALBA Syndicate v4 to RocketRom v1 JB and all is well aside from some of the known bugs.
But I have a query.
When browsing my internal SD card I see all sorts of folders and data left over from all of my previous installs and apps. No I am not sure if this actually affects the way my phone works but I don't like how messy and confusing it is. So I went into settings and tried to format USB storage as they call it. It said complete but all folders were still there and it seems as though nothing had changed. PS I don't mind losing pictures or anything at all, I want a clean start.
I also tried to 'format /sdcard' in CWM but it said there was an error mounting it and couldn't compete. I guess that's because it is referring to an external card...
If someone would help me I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to know how to format my internal storage and when or how it is safe to do so.
Many thanks in advance!
ratty x
PPS I couldn't post in the official thread for RocketRom v1 because I am still a forum noob but I wanted to say a massive thank you because it's awesome. And thank you for my 50gb dropbox upgrade!
Easiest way to format properly is to mount it on your PC, then manually select all the files and delete. The built in wipe never seems to do a proper wipe.

i have the same problem, and i also tried to delete all data trough pc. and also tried through rom changing but all data and apps showing as it is.
pls help us guys
what rom and kernel are you on? what do you mean by deleted data and all showing ? apps will be deleted when you do a factory reset from recovery. but you have to be on a safe kernel. if you installed a non wipe rom,. it will still carry on your apps. you need to install a wipe rom

Same problem here... i cant format data.. have tried hard reset, flashed the rom 3 times, factory reset, cache / Dalvik , system / data / preload... almost everything i could read in forums everywhere.. now will be deleting everything manually.. is its because of the rom im using? or is it a hardware related issue?

Thanks in advance if anyone has a solution.

[TOOL]smw6180 Superwipe

Superwipe script for the Sprint HTC One.
Disclaimer: I've tested the hell out of this but I am not perfect. This should not cause any data loss aside from what's involved in a normal wipe. However you use this at your own risk.
What this script does:
This will wipe /data, /devlog, /cache, /system, /boot to prepare your phone for installation of a new ROM. It will also optimally format all of the above (except /data) for speed.
After MUCH testing and nuking of my internal storage (SD Card), I have now fixed this script so that no harm will come to any data on your internal storage. It will wipe everything else. As always I recommend backing things up (including external storage) before running any kind of wipe, whether it be within TWRP/Clockwork, this script, or any other script.
Please report any issues or errors to me and I'll fix them asap.
Edit:
Thanks to @tdhite for his new update-binary, I've finally gotten around to updating this. I can't test it anymore as I no longer have the Sprint version of the device, however the only change I made was the update-binary so it should be fine. As it says above, use at your own risk.
I have it downloaded.. I have not used a superwipe in quite a while.. Probably since 4g days.

I might need to update it. I don't have the phone yet and Viper may or may not have had an issue. So expect an update (at least to fix the text formatting which I'm told looks like hell).

I'm removing the download for now. Viper has identified an issue...it won't hurt anything, but it's definitely not wiping data like it should be. I know why and I'll fix it, but I need to test it first so I don't accidentally wipe peoples' SD Cards.

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but I believe the HTC One doesn't have or support an SDCARD.
Id say its quite the issue if its wiping SD cards then. Mainly because it would have to be wiping something to think its wiping an sd.

Correct, to an extent. It doesn't have an external sd, but the phone still references your storage as sdcard. It resides in /data/media but is symlinked to /sdcard.
The issue with superwipe is that it normally could just wipe data on a fresh flash, but if you do that, good bye all your files. But Steve has a fix for it, I verified it. He'll get it going later today I'm sure

It doesn't wipe the SD card in its current form. It just doesn't fully work. I'm on it, as soon as UPS drops off my phone.
Got the phone, it's unlocked, recovery on it...before I even flash a ROM I'm working on the superwipe script. Should have it fully functional in the next hour or so (2 minutes to fix the code, and 58 minutes to make it pretty.
Script is fixed and the download link is active again. Thanks for your patience folks!

boot looping when I update with Viperboy 1.1.0

I am rooted on a Sprint One and had stock HTC. Then downloaded the Viperrom 1.0.4 and had no trouble get it on, did not loose any of my settings or folders. Now when I download and try to run the viper 1.1.0 zip, it does the install and starts up shows my walpaper and icons appropriately, then crashes and constant reboots to the same point. Able to get on to recovery and reinstall the back up i had made with no rpoblems.
What do I need to do? If I wipe, what do i wipe? Have TWRP.
Will I loose all my settings and data?
Please help
Under advanced wipe select the first 4(dalvik,cache,system,data).
Then reflash the Rom.
You will lose settings.
Thanks, will try that in the morning.
Is there anyway we can save settings and restore them after upgrades?

I did the same thing as you. Mine got caught in a bootloop, I couldn't get the damn thing to force restart either. The bottom home & back key just kept flashing no matter how long I held it. I had to wait forever for the battery to die. I think something might be wrong with the restart fail safe HTC built in. So I relocked it, flashed back to stock, go to sprint store of course it reboots perfect every time. The people at the store are morons I hate going there. The guy says to me you just hold it down and the restart menu will come up. I'm like if the phone is frozen that doesn't work. None the less I don't expect them to replace something that is working. So I re-unlocked, cleared everything and installed latest build fresh works great haven't had any issue. I didn't back up either so I had to re set everything up which takes forever. I'm not a fan of restoring backups anyway as it can cause issues. I will be doing a nandroid next time and be more careful with dirty flashing. I always dirty flashed on MeanBean on my LTE without issues and Mike made it very clear when dirty update was not advised. In my opinion they shouldn't release a major update that will bootloop a phone over goo manger. It's still my fault but I didn't think twice about it when I tried to update viper. It still pisses me off that I have to fight with it to get the phone to reboot, the entire point of a fail safe is incase something goes wrong. It's the first time I have ever bootlooped a phone.

Thanks all, I am just where I was. so many opinions and would like to have a concensus.
It won't wipe internal unless you specifically check it in advanced. Never wipe internal, but davlic, cache, data and system are fine and constitutes a full wipe..you should always wipe that way when trying different roms or going to a new base. Or use a superwipe script to make things easier.

im stuck in boot loop after the viper rom and i just got it yesterday .. i dont know what to do at this point . when it does boot it ask me for the wifi login and fails says poor connection when its right next to me

I'm also stuck in boot loop. I've done research and tried all kinds of stuff with no luck. This is what I get...
Phone boots
I get the notification bar and a black screen
Can't do anything with that.
After about a minute, it reboots.
Can anyone help with this? I have the 1.31 version. Clearing cache/data/delvik does nothing for me.
Can someone help me get it back to stock, or at least usable?
Thanks in advance.
