Evernote no longer working, alternatives? - Nook Touch Themes and Apps

Hi all. Firstly I'm a big evernote user, I've had it on my devices for years and almost every note I make goes through evernote in some way at some stage.
One of my main reasons for getting a nook was to root and use for reading Google reader feeds and making and accessing all my notes (effectively my digital notepad). I've carried my nook with me everywhere in this capacity for months however the most recent evernote update means the app won't even launch, firstly is anyone else had this issue secondly suggestions to fix it?
So far I've re installed evernote several times tried reboots etc but no change. The app just doesn't load.

Anyone else?

"Doesn't install" doesn't tell us a lot.
A logcat over ADB would tell us why the package manager doesn't like it.
I would guess that they increased the minimum SDK version required to run it.
Use apktool d on the apk.
Look at AndroidManifest.xml
Look for this:
Code:
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="7" />
It probably says 9 or something.
Or you could read the documentation for the application and see what they require.

It installs fine but when I try to launch it the app just doesn't open. Is it working on everyone else's nst?

Problem solved. I sideloaded the apk from the link.

I have to say the table ui looks beautiful on the nst!

cant login with this version.
Update: login works again.

Sideload an older version - 4.5.6.2
I found this answer on another thread. Works perfectly.
Simply install version 4.5.6.2 from the Android Drawer Repository

I just use an old version of Evernote (2.6.2) which is much lighter than the new ones and seems to work perfectly fine on the Nook Touch.

Is there a version with multitouch support? I wish i could zoom in and enlarge the tiny font.

Most imp tablet specific app needed?

Hi guys,
I really want to love the Xoom, I like android a lot and the hardware is too good (at least at this point)
But I not in place where I can drop my iPad for good. The reasons are pure app specific, if I get these decent on Xoom... it's bye bye iPad.
So this is a quasi-'need help' thread. to double check if I'm not missing anything
1. Magazine app - Something like Zinio, I depend too much on it and couldn't find even an ETA on when Zinio will be available for Android
~ Solved. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11939617&postcount=5
2. Comics reader - I know we have the Comics app but I need a cbr/cbz reader. I tired AVC but doesn't seam to work on Honeycomb
~ Solved. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11939617&postcount=6
3. A UI-nice IM app. I love the Gtalk app but need facebook and skype IM app
4. Netflix app.
5. Tablet specific twitter, facebook, foursquare apps. I know iPad doesn't have FB or FS apps but this would be nice
6. Now the big big deal... I consider all these tablets as a 'consumption' devices, and the biggest thing I 'consume' is movies and tv shows...
The best thing about iPad is, I just launch iTunes app then rent a movie, wait for sometime and then enjoy the movie...
Is there a way I can get this experience on a Xoom? I know that right now most of the HD formats play on tegra but is there any hope to get this?
~~~~~~~~~~
Disclaimer: Please don't pounce on this post and call me a iFreak. I'm not trying to diss the Xoom or Android. I did search and try apps to see if I could get all this... but couldn't find a way. So before I make a decision I just wanted some opinions.
thanks
Don't forget the completely absent Google Docs app! Someone please tell me its in the works....
If you download Spare parts and unselect Compatibility mode AVC works great. i have been using it for days now with no FC.
zinio
Zinio works great. I use it on my Xoom and Galaxy Tab.
Have you tried jj comic viewer for comics? i cant confirm it works on 3.0 but it is the best ive found pre HC
A Market app that works...
Searches properly so you can find those Apps you want that may exist but you would never know.
Recognizes applications that have updates properly.
Doesn't randomly open other app's.
Actually installs Apps the first time you ask for them.
And why Google is at it, Tablet Section - more direct support on the Web Market while the programmer who is assigned to the tablet market app figures out how to code - bug fix.
(yes I am frustrated with the market today)
I don't remember if manga watcher loads cbz and crz files but in general it is really good app. It was recently updated to load local files from sd so it might be worth checking out. I know the dev does alot of work and updates it frequently. You might even write him and ask if he plans to add support for these files if they aren't already supported. I bought the full app and have been happy with it ever since.
All I have to say is Samurai Executioner.
I tried Zanio on my Xoom and it just FC on startup.
Quick office
Has any one bought quickoffice pro for smartphones or HD? if yes, what rom are you using and how is it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
someone asked this same question just recently and all I can tell you is that I have Quick Office on my nook (not pro, it's an older version no longer (or never was) on the market i got a year and a half ago, by the same company) and it works great. I assume pro is just the upgraded version of it, although I can't confirm for sure....it looks almost exactly alike. Also, I use it more to create new documents and not import ones from a computer. I've heard not all formats work on it.
Try rebooting yet? I never got anything to show on Extras without a reboot (after installing apk).
I tried that a few times no luck
I do see it under SU- manage apps it is there!
I'm able to launch it thru task killer, but would like an icon on extras!
I bought the app from the Marketplace.
I bought it for my DroidX and it just works on the NookColor.
I used Titanium Backup to freeze the stock/limited version that comes on the Nook.
hmm did not know titanium was able to freeze an app, I simply use task killer to terminate the read only version and then run full version... Guess I'll just have to use a launcher to get things going.
I actually bought the latest HD version directly from the developer/publisher yesterday (with a promotion it's only $9.99), but it won't install on the NC, presumably because it's built explicitly for 3.0 and I'm on 2.3 (CM7). I saw that there's an APK floating around out there, but given that they're offering a pretty solid office suite for $10, I prefer to give the developer their due. Having said that, if I can't get it to work on my device... Does anyone know if it's possible to get the latest commercial version for tablets to work on NC with CM7?
I'm using the pro version. I can confirm it works perfectly on CM7. The Google docs integration is great. I use mostly spreadsheets and pdf and it's great - I recommend it.
I'm playing around with the HD APK. Having trouble selecting text in word processing documents, though. I can only seem to drag the little pins about 10% of the time.
Zinio for Xoom
Hi all,
I take absolutely no credit for this to work on Xoom, it's due to the great work of hhspiny who extracted the files from his GalzxyTab; and kevinmajlo who is kind enough to alter some code which solved the FC issue.
Bear in mind that since this app is not optimized for Xoom, don't expect the resolution to be on par with its ipad counterpart. Nevertheless it's good for now until the official version for Xoom comes out.
Here's the installation sequence (you need to sideload all files):
1. Download the 2 attached files
2. Install ReaderHub.apk
3. Install zinio-fixed.apk
After installation completed click the "ReadersHub" app, choose "magazine" and viola!!
Enjoy everyone! Please drop a note whether it works or not for your device.
[Update] For those who would like to be informed regarding the official app, Zinio has placed a link in its tweet. Here's the link:
Thank you all involved. Shouted with respect
OMG thank you. I just sold my iPad and have been using Zinio on my small iPod touch screen. Now I have it working on my Xoom!!! Thanks so much.
Should be ok since the fixed problem is not really device-specific. Please report back if it works or not.
[update] i've also installed in my HD2 (running 2.3.4) and works like a charm.
Finally Zinio on my Xoom. Many thanks.
Sold your iPad???
I'm on a Xoom 3.1 - installed readershub first, then zinio. Made it as far as logging in, I get the tip box, then it goes into an FC loop. Any thoughts?
How I fixed the FC close issue is turned off the tips. Once I did that, FC issue went away.
keeps fc on my xoom.android 3.1
I used Zinio from the G2X dump and it works perfectly on my transformer. It's the full app where you don't need to samsung's reader hub in order to view magazines. Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...3&postcount=12
I've been looking at Zinio's twitter feed and it looks like there's progress being made for a Zinio honeycomb version including a tweet by what looks like a developer for Zinio asking for people who have android tablets. Maybe the devoper is asking for beta testers?
Yah. The games on the iPad were nice but I'd forget I even had one and would go for weeks without using it. Having an EVO, iPod Touch 4, and a Xoom was too much. I can't browse or multitask on an iPad (Mobile Safari sucks and having to click the home button twice to view open apps is a chore). No point in keeping the iPad when everyday the value decreases as more and more iPad 2's are available. Sold it when it was still sellable.
Ok, so I uninstalled zinio and readershub, and now i'm trying to reinstall them both. Readershub installs just fine, but for some reason zinio fails to install. I tried using adb install and adb install -r and they both result in the following error:
Code:
1236 KB/s (5638011 bytes in 4.452s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/zinio-fixed.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE]
Any ideas?
newer version of the Zinio Reader available
I get an message saying that "There is a newer version of the Zinio Reader available. This version is no longer supported. Please upgrade to the latest Zinio Reader."
Anyone knows where to find the updated files?
Thanks.
got this new apk from the samsung app store the other day.
Haven't tried it on the xoom yet but this should be the newer version.
Google Currents
Hey, has anyone tested Google Currents yet? Does everything work?
Here's an apk: goo.gl/pQuEG
(I currently haven't rooted my nook, but would consider it, if that's a great reading app..)
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
This apk doesn't work, it needs a newer android version.
I see, thanks for testing!
Has anyone tried installing it from the market?
But maybe the app isn't that usefull (on the nook) anyways..
You know by "apk doesn't work", that means it doesn't work, right?
You could modify the manifest...but Google probably needs some things for 2.2 for it. They don't seem to artificial "inflate" the version number...
Yeah, I know, thanks for the clarification, anyways!
I would have liked the app, because it supports paged reading of rss feeds! is there another app that does this?
There are many rss readers out there. It just depends how much you want to see the page refresh. Search rss in the market.
Current looks a like like Feedly, fyi
For fun, I decided to take a stab at getting this installed on the Nook Touch because I like this app too on my handset...
I was able to decrypt the app and change the minimum SDK required to Android 2.1, repackaged the app and resigned.
I got the app installed on my NST but it doesn't boot - just crashes. (I have Gapps on here and my other Gapps work)
It probably has other requirements that are apart of Android 2.2 but just wanted to give it a shot at any rate
Adobe Touch Apps
After being able to install google apps (minus chrome and the newest google+ app?), I am quite happy with the Fire HD.
I have been able to find apk's to sideload most of the apps that are free that I want and then they update via the playstore like normal so far. Only exception being Google+ app is still running the older style before the major revamp.
I have purchased 2 of the Adobe Touch apps, Photoshop Touch and Proto and would love to be able to use them on my Fire. I don't want to steal an apk from a third party site since I have legitimately purchased them. Is there a way to pull an apk from a different tablet I have of those apps? Or if I obtained one from a third party site, would they update like the others have properly?
As a side note, when running Go Launcher, I am unable to run the Kindle app. I haven't had time to search the forums here, but I do know there have been posts related to that issue, so ignore this comment really until I can find out if it has been answered.
Lastly, the magazine subscriptions I have done through the Kindle Launcher, how are those accessed using GoLauncher? Or can they not be?
Thanks!
If your other devices are rooted, you can pull the apk from them, under data/app; normally shown as com.name.name.apk but there are icons also to help you identify.
I used the kindle app in the market and got all my books to start working. Not sure about magazines though, but you can sync it.
Ran across this just now when browsing some stuff!
http://blogs.adobe.com/photoshopdot...?utm_source=photoshop+blog&utm_medium=twitter
I'm not sure if this means the play Store version will be updated to install on the Fire Hd's or not, but I hope it does. I don't want to purchase a second copy, but may if it's optimized for the 7" version.
Seems to only be Photoshop Touch at this point, but I'm hopeful for Proto and others as well. Haven't been able to do much more than read about it from work at this point but thought it worth mentioning.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
One last update for this. The other day Adobe did indeed update their Play Store version of Photoshop Touch to work with 7" tablets. This did work with the other problems for me on my Fire HD. Was able to just go to the store and click install.
So for those wanting this on 7" tablets, it now works! I hope they do this with the other touch apps soon as well.
