[TOOL] HTC First All-In-One Toolkit V1.0 [4-20-2013] [PERM ROOT][Noob-Proof] - HTC First

Post 1 - Information
Post 2 - Downloads and Release / Change Information
Post 3 - Bugs, Future Additions to the GUI, FAQ
I would like to add for those that like my toolkit, PLEASE DO NOT POST IT ELSEWHERE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!
I have seen multiple sites who copy and paste my work to their site! If I do not approve of it, then do not do it! it will discourage me from adding updates since it is being used for their own benefits!
tl;dr.
If you post my work without permission, don't expect updates!
I created an easy to use GUI program for the HTC Amaze and I decided to make one for the HTC First. I spent a good over 10+ hours to learn how to script, watch videos on how to do it, working on it during school when I should have been listening lol and all that fun stuff. I am going to fix it and up and add more updates to it. You CAN place requests and I will try to fulfill it!
If this helped you out, Please press the thanks button and if you want, you can always donate!

Looking to add in the future
- Kernels
- More recoveries
- Makes Requests!!!
FAQs
Q - Why Did you make this?
A - To make life easier
Q - You are limited on features. Why?
A- You can always make a request!
Q - Will this work on other devices?
A - Only the fastboot commands, HTC Dev unlock (device specific) and the HTC drivers. Toolkit is made for the specific device.
Q - Will you support more devices in the future?
A - If people REALLY want, I can make it happen. I just don't want to make anything that nobody would use.
Q - Awesome! Can I make a donation?
A - Of course! Do not feel obligated though. If you would like to make a donation, you can click the button on my toolkit or under my username.

Nice! Thanks Hasoon!
Love seeing a noob-proof option for a custom recovery and root for the First.

just spitballing for ur one and only bug, why don't u use quotes so multi-worded folders work.. like "C:\Imma folder in an unusual place"

I really should stop using dev host. It's down every other day. If I can get another file hoster with ftp support, that would be awesome

So there's an OTA out there (19.8MB, nothing big), but when it rebooted to update, it got stuck in CWM and I couldn't flash it there. I intended to pull the zip so we could make it flashable (and by "we", I mean someone more skilled than I), but I don't see it on the phone when it's plugged in, and when I check Software Update again, it says no update is available.
I'm well aware that flashing the OTA will likely kill root for me, but at this point, I don't really care. I'm hoping this OTA fixes the few bugs I'm having with the phone, and that's more than worth losing root over for me.
EDIT:
Posted the update in the development forum.

Oh, I took a peek at it and it just seems like it's video type of update. Just updating a bunch of libs. I haven't checked to see if new firmware is in it yet

The DL is working again.:good:

Well, I'm no noob when it comes to working with HTC devices as I successfully unlocked the bootloader and rooted my One X with no problems back in the day. However, I'm running into a problem with the HTC First. I have unlocked the bootloader, and I am attempting to use the Toolkit to install a custom recovery. Unfortunately, when I try to do so, it gives me the following text:
'C:\Documents' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\First_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0\data>
After that it just hangs there and doesn't do anything. I'm not quite sure why it's doing that, nor do I understand why it's trying to access a non-existent folder in C:\
Any insight would be much appreciated.

adb won't recognize my phone. I use the toolkit to install the HTC drivers, but when I run the first script it get a "device not found message"
I'll try this on my laptop, see if it makes a difference. I have rooted many phones with this computer: Xperia X8, Xperia Sola, Atrix 4G, Atrix 2 and adb has always shown something when I run "adv devices" command.
I'm open to suggestions though! I'm running windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, in case this information in useful.

Clockwork recovery...

Does anyone know an easier way to put clockwork onto my phone? I mean other than (adb).. for some reason it doesn't pick up my phone.. Is there an recovery App coming out soon?
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
make sure you have debugging mode on and that your Windows or Mac proper LG drivers are installed so that the phone is recognized also put CMD in the same folder as platform tools in sdk manager folder vice versa for files needed to be pushed to phone.
I got the drivers from the LG website for my cell, hmmm... ill have to recheck everything else because ADB has never gave me this much trouble
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
I'd be willing to code a one click solution if it would be helpful. Its pretty easy as it is tho
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
I had the same problems. I followed everything step by step and made sure I had the right drivers along with everything I would need with Java. Still no luck. I have the combination of feeling stupid and frustrated. I have rooted and installed custom roms on three different phones before.
A one click solution would be amazing if you could come up with that. I will try the ADB way again later.
Vince
Yes a one click, alot of people would thank you ....and i would be gratefull

i agree. ive been trying the adb method all day. for some reason just wont work. im prolly missing something
Try updating all the drivers for adb. It would be helpful for you and it would probably solve your issue.

Does one click root work for you? If it does, there is nothing wrong with your drivers.
Once you get one click root working, put the recover in the ADB folder that is part of one clock root.... then open that fold, hold shift and right click, select open command prompt, then type in the adb commands from the CWM instructions thread.
LG uses the same drivers for all their Android devices, I used their driver installer app and selected the Verizon LG Fathom since it didn't have the Thrill listed anywhere, have had no problems.
Some reason my comp doesnt do any of this correctly... so much for brand new tech
Does one click root work for you?
If not, you have a driver problem, fix it by downloading LG's driver installer, select Verizon for the carrier and then select the Fathom. If you have a drive issue, and that fails to fix it, try a different USB port... make sure you have your phone in debug mode... can you mount your SD cards?
If one click root does work, then YOU, not your new technology, is doing something wrong. So the question is, what are you doing wrong...
Please answer the question, does one click root work? From there, tell us step by step what you are doing, and we will tell you what needs fixing.
almost done

Ok, then driver issues isn't a problem, I would take a really close look at your ADB commands, and be sure to wait 30 seconds after each one to let it process.
I would recommend copy pasting the longer commands (right click copy, right click paste, the keyboard shortcuts don't work in command prompt window).
now it says permission denied on first command?
Then you don't have root... run one click root again. I would use it's driver check feature as well before running it.
lol i lost root? wow ok strange... i have superuser
Well... if you get accessed denied you either are typing something wrong, skipping a step, or trying to do something that needs root and you don't have root.
Do you have debug mode turned on? Do you see this active in your phones notification bar? That first line doesn't even need root access, if IIRC.

[Q] Still able to Root?

Can the Hasoon2000 kit still root the HTC Vivid(4.0.3)? I have found no answer to this as that is why am asking.
At the moment it can't he is working on updating script to work on ics.

Would you happen to know about how long it takes to script? I'm just woundering because I hate the new update and would like to root(s-off) and then flash a rom. I liked sense but want vanilla-android. Thanks again for your helpful post. I'm not asking if you know an ETA or anything like that, just from your experience.

Really don't know that info, however if you want to get root but don't want to wait there are other ways to do it. Let me know if you are interested and I will post them up. Consider though it will take longer than it would using the toolkit.
megatronisabeast
I'll try pretty much anything. I've rooted several devices, so findind a new way for another one won't hurt. Only thing that I really would like to do is avoid making a gold card, but if you have to do that I think I will wait for the toolkit. Thanks!! Do you know if it's possible to temp root, flash a kernal with cwm, and then flash a rom?
Here is what you need to do to root your phone, etc.
First thing is to download android sdk:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
It will allow you to send files to your phone from your computer-no s-off so can't flash kernel in recovery only fastboot.
While that is downloading if you haven't already you need to unlock boot loader by going to:
http://htcdev.com/
Don't forget to keep the unlock code so if you need to relock your boot loader.
Next, it sounds like you want to flash a custom rom. If so the best one in my opinion is found here:
http://www.wcxxperia-nce.com/index.php
You have to register to see the vivid section.
Once there you will download the zip file, put a copy on your phone, the other copy unzip and place the boot.img and wcx recovery in the same folder that you have the fast boot file that you downloaded earlier from sdk.
Then you put your phone into hboot mode, plug it in to usb port, make sure on phone screen is says fast boot usb in red.
Then open command prompt in your folder with fast boot by clicking shift and the right mouse button.
Type in these commands:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery wcxrecovery.img
After those steps power down phone, unplug from computer, return to hboot, click on recovery, then flash the zip file that you placed on there earlier.
That's it, you got it root and all.
Also if you do use his rom, restart phone 3 times to settle phone in and cycle battery 3 times to make sure everything is working correctly.
Here is a video if you feel overwhelmed to help guide you brought to you by randong!

You can use wild child's recovery to perm root ics check it site for the video if you need proof

We just need S-OFF so we can simplify this entire thing by using CWM. It's so much easier being able to flash a scripted .zip package in there than dealing with fast boot.

True, I just wish I knew how long "scripting" takes. I know the video is very clear, and that I'm very good with technology, however I do think that there is a good chance I might mess up...thus I believe I will wait, but I will do some more research be4 deciding what to do

I've never done it myself but it shouldn't be that difficult. I think I'm just spoiled coming from the Inspire - it was rooted, S-OFF'd, and had a few custom ROMs up the within a couple days of its launch. The level of development for that device was extreme from the very beginning.
Sent from my HTC Vivid
True, I still have an Inspire and the development is still booming. I personally just wish HTC would have made the Vivid as dependable as the Inspire, bc my Vivid has all sorts of problems. Turns off randomly, and each time when it turns back on it says "upgrading android" and then it optimizes the apps for ICS. Most of the time it won't flip my pictures(rotate)<--yes auto rotate is on...but all in all HTC went down in quality with the Vivid. Personally this is why I want to root, that way I don't have to worry with HTC screwing up the update.
it does work but i have found that busybox isnt installed/installed correctly and have had to install it from the market for titanium backup to recognize my root.
A reply to numerous posts...you don't need S-OFF on the Vivid, developers have yet to figure out how to do so. It's rumored some users have received their phones shipped with S-OFF, but to my knowledge it's not because of any modifications.

Also I Doesn't Invented My Own Ideas Here. I had Just Copied all the things in One. So Also Thanks to Vertigo,Ben,Shinger,Alex And all Who made it Easier
If you are unsure about doing anything in this tutorial... DON'T DO IT... Ask a question here... But dont ask rom specific questions here though!!!
Now this will be for doing everything on a Windows PC.
THIS IS FROM SHINGERS THREAD SO CHEERS TO HIM
(IF YOU LIKE TO SEE DIRECTLY FROM THE THREAD, LINK BELOW ELSE I POSTED HERE TOO)
ALL SHOULD SEE THIS FIRST PLEASE ....
*** unlocking bootloader from HTCDEV site is highly recommended for a permanent root solution***
1. enable usb debugging from settings - applications - development
2. plug phone to pc via usb cable - charge only
3. open extracted zip folder and click runme. thats all. (if experience any daemon hanging problems pls install htc sync and plug in phone so drivers are installed. once done delete htc sync and repeat root procedure)
PC will open a cmd screen with prompts that you need to follow. app does rest
4. After root is complete pls visit market and update SU app. once done root will be fully functional and eliminate any future FCs
5. Also as an extra tip you can install SU UPDATE fixer from market to update your binaries to 3.0
Software version 1.24.709.2 doesn't seem to be rootable via this method. Please try flashing another ruu from runnymede rom thread then attempt root again
Added V4 of the Doomlord Exploit as may be why XL was rooted without bootloader being unlocked.
well i relocked my bootloader and flashed ruu 1.05.404 then I used Doolord V4 to root my phone. This was succesful in permanently rooting my phone without unlocking my bootloader. This was not possible with V2 so if anyone wants to root without unlocking bootloader this is now possible using V4 of the Doomlord Exploit attached below. PLEASE NOTE THAT STILL NEED TO UNLOCK BOOTLOADER TO FLASH CUSTOM ROMS AND RECOVERY
If i Repeated ANY OF THE STEP BELOW WHICH I MENTIONED ABOVE PLEASE SEE IT THOROUGHLY FIRST THEN MOVE AHEAD
REST, SIT DOWN GRAB A COFFEE AND Read IT CAREFULLY.
................................................
S-OFF
Our Great Friend FardJab has made the phone to S-OFF
Please see the link if you like to ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663344
.................................................
1. To Unlock BOOTLOADER
1.1 You Need to Unlock the BOOTLOADER
(You can get permanant root but you won't be able to put a custom rom on your phone, so if you only want root you don't need to unlock bootloader. You will need to use v4 from this post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1341127 ... Cheers Shingers)
To do This,You Need to go to www.htcdev.com to unlock it.
1.2 Register An acoount there and when its time to select your device scroll to the bottom and select 'All Other Supported Devices'.
1.3 Then you will get the warning boxes pop up asking you if you're sure you want to do it then saying you could void your warranty as well. Once you've clicked ok on those you'll be through to the instructions on how to unlock your bootloader.
Remember how to get your phone into fastboot from the instructions because you will need to do it again, or if anything goes wrong.
But if you follow the instructions properly nothing should go wrong... Its been tried and tested by lots of people...
And just incase you don't remember how to do it... Take battery out and pop it back in, then press volume down and power button together until you see the white bootloader screen and then press the power button to get into fastboot.
If You Are Facing Problem In 1 Part Only Grab Your Coffee and Watch Pogo
2.Then once you have that done you will need to get root and for that you will need to follow shingers5 tutorial below...
Get the file for rooting here DooMLoRD_v2_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip
1. enable usb debugging from settings - applications - development
2. plug phone to pc via usb cable - charge only
3. open extracted zip folder and click runme. thats all. (if experience any daemon hanging problems pls install htc sync and plug in phone so drivers are installed. once done delete htc sync and repeat root procedure) PC will open a cmd screen with prompts that you need to follow. The app does rest... So its nice and easy
4. After root is complete pls visit market and update SU app. once done root will be fully functional and eliminate any future FCs
5. Also as an extra tip you can install SU UPDATE fixer from market to update your binaries to 3.0
All Done
Note. If you're struggling with the above instructions, remember that you will need to un-install HTCsync because it interferes with fastboot and rooting...
NOW YOUR PHONE IS ROOTED
3.Then once you're rooted you will need to put CWM (Clockwork Mod) recovery on in order for you to be able to back up your phone and flash custom roms. The custom recovery by Paul O'Brien is the best one to use and is available to download here...
http://android.modaco.com/topic/3489...odaco-edition/
You will need your phone in fastboot again and you will need to find the fastboot folder on your PC (Windows). When you're in the fastboot folder press the left shift button and right click on the mouse and select open command prompt here. Make sure your phone is connected to the PC and is in fastboot. Also make sure that the recovery.img file that you downloaded from MoDaCo is in the fastboot folder too. Get back to the command promt window and type the following
fastboot flash recovery r1-recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7-modaco-runnymede.img (Tip: once you get to the r1 bit just hit tab and it will auto complete the rest of the line)
If you can't get the Paul O'Brien recovery installed (apparantly not everyone can) try the Older recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1348693
Now You Have Got Root And CWM
A lot of people who have come this far will want to put a custom rom on... unfortunately its not completely straight forward. But again there is a way round round it and you should only need to do it once, when you're coming from a stock rom.
4.1. You cant just flash a custom rom on this phone, firstly you will need the 'Chinese rom' which is here
http://hotfile.com/dl/148413075/8990...01713.zip.html and make sure it is on the SDcard part of your phones memory. Make sure it on the root of the SDcard because it will be easier to find later. Then you will need this rom RCMix3d Runny XL rom from here
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/56143145/RCM...ny_XL_v1.2.zip (thanks to benjamin.j.goodwin) and make sure that is on the SDcard too with the other rom
2. Then you will need to download this file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...7&postcount=18 it is the 'Chinese boot.img' and will need flashing from fastboot again. So put the phone in fastboot and extract the 'boot.img' from the 'boot.rar' file and put it in the fastboot folder on the PC. Open the command prompt again and type this... fastboot flash boot boot.img ... This should only need doing once if you're coming from a stock rom.
3. Once you've done that you will need to get into recovery. From fastboot select bootloader and then look for recovery, it should be under fastboot if its worked correctly. Select that and the phone should then reboot and go into 'CWM' (recovery). Once there you will need to use the volume keys and power button just like when you were in bootloader. Go down and select 'Factory Reset/Data Wipe' and select that, the select yes on following screen. This will take a few mins (don't worry if it looks like its not doing anything). After that go down to 'Wipe Cache' and select that. and then go down to 'Advanced' select that and on the following screen select 'Wipe Dalvik Cache'.
4. Once thats all done you will need to select 'Install Zip File from SDcard' and then you will get another screen where you go to 'choose zip from SDcard' and the you will see all the contents of your SDcard, scroll down till you can select the Chinese rom you put on earlier (remember what it was called) and then select yes to install it. Sit back and wait another few minutes. Once its done select the 'reboot now'. The phone will then reboot again and start to load the new rom up. This will take a while so don't worry. Now once the phone has started you should get the start up wizard and you will just need to skip through it (don't worry about it being all in chinese... its in english). Not everyone needs to install the Chinese rom, some people can just go straight to the RCMix3d rom and install that, but it doesn't work for everyone, so I'm putting this in because it always works when you do it this way. Installing the Chinese rom should only need doing once if you're coming from a stock rom.
5. Boot into recovery again and goto 'Factory Reset/Data wipe', then 'Wipe Cache', then 'Advanced' and 'Wipe Dalvik Cache' and then go back to main screen and select 'Install Zip From SDcard' and then select 'RCMix3d zip' file and install that. Once thats done select Reboot Now and wait while phone boots up again... and VOILA you now have a custom rom Installed.
6. You could either leave that rom on (its a very good rom) or choose to install one of the other custom roms, read through the first few posts of each rom and decide from there whether you want to install that particular rom, or do what I did and install everyone and see which you like best .

These Are Enough As you Are Not drinking Your Coffee
Just In case If you Want to Come back to your Stock Rom
You will need to make sure phone is in fastboot and then get command prompt up in fastboot folder and type this...
fastboot oem lock
That will relock the bootloader so that you can flash a stock HTC stock image (or RUU) back to your phone. Your bootloader WILL need to be relocked for you to be able to flash stock image back to phone. You can find stock HTC roms (RUU's) here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1317895
When you're in fastboot and your phone is connected to the PC and you've downloaded the correct RUU for your region (they are region specific) double click on the RUU.exe and that should start the procedure of flashing the stock image back to your phone. I've never needed to do this, so I'm not 100% on the whole process.
Please remember that if you flash a RUU back to your phone, you will lose root etc, it will be like when you first got the phone...

Well yeah , it might not have much functions , but still the htcdev unlock is an ERASER , especially for non-rooted guys ! how will they backup their data while they're S-ON+Lock BL ?? This might help even if it doesn't have that much functions , at least it will unlock /system /data etc .... I think the OP should be updated with a warning , but while mentioning that the unlock is safer and does blah blah , but the S-off is a beta and doesn't erase blah blah . WHat do you think Guys ?

like i said its not for the faint hearted among us and best left to more experience users who even struggle with it. i think it should stay in fardjad thread for now while he continues to develop it. a guide is a tried and tested foolproof way to get guys started and stuff like beta hboot s-off should not be added as yet! if you are a stock rom and aim to stay there i dont see the pressing need to backup anything as such. anyway thats my opinion!
Please fix the links if you can.

How do I make the fastboot?
Hello,
I've just got my HTC SXL and I was successfully do the S-Off and Unlocking the Bootloader.
Next is rooting the device.
But, I have a silly question beforehand. I realize that we must access the fastboot mode before do the rooting. But I can not find it how to do that.
Is there anybody who can help me with that?
Thank you so much
Turn the phone off and take the battery out, then put it back in and and press power button and volume down button until you get a white screen with text on then once there press power button again to get into fastboot
how about creating gold card in SXL memory card , I see that it is internal
any guide for ? or I have to disassemble it...

[HOWTO] Boot Ouya Into CWM/Flashing ROMs

First off, I wanna apologize if the has been discussed.
I see a lot of you broke your device by trying some form of method to fix the device in any fancy way.
I had a friend brick by trying the Cyanoboot method.
First off, assuming you have already got CWM installed via the tutorial that's been posted already.
Secondly, make sure you have some form of way to side load apps onto the device. Be it Dropbox, Google Drive, or maybe your using an ADB method.
Lastly, I have found this to be the easiest way.
So, let's begin. Please make sure you have a way of grabbing ROM Manager, back it up, download an .apk from a Google search or just port it from one device to another via an app.
Once you've found your method of getting the side loaded .apk let's make sure it's installed, any newer version will work(Older versions have been reported of not installing and allowing a proper clean reboot). So let's make sure it's a newer updated version, secondly test it and make sure the version you're using will reboot the device properly without issue. Working? Good.
Now let's use our nifty tool as soon as you have CWM installed, you should get a proper reboot!
This is good.
As a side note, I've had mine give issue and make me wait a few for a full reboot into CWM.
Now you're done!
Flashing ROMs.
It's just as easy as you'd think it'd be as long as you've got a properly packed ROM onto your device.
Note: If you're looking for a tut on porting the ROM, please check the Dev forum as there is a tut posted that is clean and simple using ADB.
Also, there are some that say you can using a cloud storage method.(Try it at your own risk!)
Once you've got your ROM onto Ouya you should check with an explorer to confirm that it was saved onto the device.(I have an issue of downloading things of the Internet with Ouya and them not showing up).
Now, using the method I first mentioned to get into CWM, do so.
You should see an option to search through your internal SD, this would be the next step as we can't/don't have any form of using an external SD, that is if you could connect a flash drive to the back and use it, though I can't confirm it would work.
Lastly, once you've scanned the internal SD and found your ROM, flash it. Sometimes this could take a bit, being my case it took 10m to install Ouya Plus.
If any issues occur, feel free to post and I shall try my best to answer anything!

just as an add: my Ouya did not detect a exFAT MicroSD in a USB reader. Maybe CWM only works with some formats?

FAT32 is more or less the "golden" standard for portable devices. glitchhaw, you are aware that exFAT is one of the most laughably locked down filesystems for portable devices out there, right? If you're being official at all, you have to pay royalties to Microsoft to be able to work with exFAT, and I doubt OUYA built support in for that.

i know that I don't like exFAT and that its annoying and glitchy sometimes with android.. but I don't like the fat32 4gb limit.
i wish CWM/TWRP worked with NTFS or EXT, at least they are more reliable.

NTFS support can be added at the kernel level, but I don't know of any recoveries that support it, sadly. And that's unfortunately the nature of the beast, and probably why many recoveries will break files up into multiple archives.
Go full *nix and use ext4 like a man... Unless you're a woman, then use it like a woman.

I am unable to get the unit to respond to Rom managers attempt at rebooting into recovery, I'll give the command via the app and it will just continue sitting there at the menu. CWM was successfully installed and I made a backup. I downloaded the app to my phone and then TB'd it and sent it to my device. did I miss something?

that was my thought, however I just reran the .bat for cwm and flashed that way.

I have to say this is probably the worst how to/tutorial I have seen on XDA.
If you're intent is to help users inexperienced with CWM, then you need to write clearly defined steps. The whole thing is vague. You don't give links to a single file or other tutorial, a how to shouldn't keep telling people to do a Google search for things. On four steps you make people search for files or another how-to.
What is the new version of Rom manager? How do you make sure it will reboot the device properly? Be specific.
You say flashing Roms is easy as long as you have a properly packed Rom. How does one go about checking that? How do you flash the Rom?
This is what a how-to is supposed to include. This is equivalent to just telling people GIYF and RTM.

There's no need to bash peoples thread first of all.
And secondly, you'll be reported for this.
As of how to to do this, I can't always "be specific" like you want when I post a good amount of this from my phone, so do be prepared for a tut that's not fully helpful.
Lastly, I HIGHLY doubt that you've read every tut on here, and trust me, I've seen so much worse that go down to the nick of; "If you wipe and install first, this version will fully brick the device, this version will half brick it".
So explain to me, since I've made ROM packages, I've had more tuts than just this, what do you wanna see more in a tutorial from me? Tell me and I'll try my best to help.
Don't go barging in with the intent of anger in mind and begin bashing me to the fullest.
Most people PM me and I give them what they need if they can't find it, as for you? Nuh uh, after this, NO is my final answer.

You reported me for what? That your feelings are hurt?
Ostensibly you created this tutorial to prevent people from bricking their OUYAs. That is why I was expecting a detailed walkthrough and was very disappointed. You created a tutorial on your phone that is lacking vital info that I have already detailed. I did not bash you to the fullest. You admit that your tut is not fully helpful, and I've seen other comments on another tut of yours that were a great deal harsher than mine about your motivation to post a poorly written tut.
I apologize for the severity of my opening line. I was and am annoyed that the "how-to" does not provide any info vital to users so that they don't brick their OUYA. Every time they are sent elsewhere for a file or info there is a risk of getting bad info or a malicious or corrupt apk. I outlined a lot of the information I think should be included. If I had all the answers I'd have included those as well, but I am here because I thought I could learn something. Maybe I still will.
Edit: I see now what type of person you are and how helpful you can be. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43031832 so the next time you see me ask for help go ahead and flame me. Don't worry I have a thick skin, so I won't feel the need to cry to the mods you hypocrite.

Don't worry, this morning I was frustrated.
I'm sorry, tell me what you think I'm missing and I'll add the quote to the OP.
I plan on doing a video tut though.

worst
this is the worst tutorial I've ever read on xda. mods please take down this how to brick your ouya tutorial before people start downloading wrong files and bricking there ouya.
Okay where is your full proof method of rooting and installing cwm on the ouya?

Going by the threads opened/posts by this fellow, maybe a sticky to let people know who to avoid is needed.
OP, maybe your're over-enthusiastic over your new Ouya, but XDA prides itself on people who actually KNOW what they're doing to help, not rambling nonsense.

[HELP THREAD] HTC One M8S - Back to Stock - HOWTO

HOW TO get your HTC One M8S back to Factory / stock.
Attention 1: This is NOT for the regular HTC One M8.
Attention 2: This is for the HTC One M8S also known as the M8_QL_UL
(The One M8S does not have a separate subforum on XDA.)
Hi everyone! I saw that many people who have a HTC One M8S have problems with restoring the stock HTC RUU. It is a little bit difficult. So here I'll supply you again with steps that worked for me.
Most of this is a copy from a post I made earlier. But I saw that many of you still have some problems. So here is a dedicated thread.
I have used this method multiple times to restore my phone back to factory defaults. I hope it works for you too!
Warning. You will lose your settings. Everything will be reset to the defaults.
Read these important notes before you begin!
When you need fastboot: only HTC's own fastboot program will work. You will use fastboot, for example, when you want to flash a custom recovery.
Other fastboot applications will not work correctly in my experience! So be sure you use HTC's.
If you need it: HTC will send you a link when you unlock your bootloader. But you can also find fastboot via the same page as where you can find the RUUs.... see below.
Do you have an SDCard ready? You must have one to get this to work and it must be big enough. ADB sideload will NOT work!
Is your phone relocked? It must be! If not, relock it, then come back.
Most of the problems happen because people read too fast. This stuff just takes a long time.. so don't do it if you are in a hurry. And do read carefully.
Are you ready? Ok! Here we go.
Download the RUU zip you want to use. I have used ...HTC_Europe_1.16... BUT later I found this did not allow the newest OTA update (as of august 30th, 2015). Maybe I will test 1.11 some day later.
However, I think that 1.11 is the right version. Not sure where to download the RUU or fastboot? Click the button.
For me, I downloaded the RUU zip via the generous hosting by @El-Conkistador. You can find it via his post here. On his page there is a directory called Firmware (Expert). In there is a directory called Firmware Crypted (Original HTC). In that directory are multiple directories containing RUUs. Choose one for your device, download it, then come back here.
Open your sdcard. It must be fat32 or exFAT formatted.
Copy the RUU zip file onto the root of the sdcard. Do NOT extract it. Just copy it.
You must now rename it to: 0PKVIMG.zip. The first character is the number 0 (zero), not the letter O!
If you know how to do this, take the md5sum from the RUU zip on your computer, and 0PKVIMG.zip on your SDcard. They must be the same! If not, there can be a problem with your SDCard.
Safely unload and remove the SDCard from your computer.
Power off your phone.
Are you sure you want to continue? Then insert the SDCard into the phone..
Take a deep breath..
Boot the phone to the bootloader: hold Volume Down. Press the power button. Release both buttons when you are inside the bootloader.
When you are in the bootloader, press power once to enter fastboot mode.
The restoration process should will now start. Confirm on the screen when it's asked. Then wait patiently, it takes a long time!
Nice detail: there is a small sidebar at the top right side of the screen that will show you progress. Sometimes it will go back to 0; it will fill up more than once.
In case of failure
In my case it failed the first time. Probably because a sector on my SDCard was faulty. I found out by verifying the md5sum of the file on the sdcard, it was not the same as the RUU zip on my computer, but it has to be.
To fix it, I copied the RUU zip to the sdcard for the second time, *then* deleted 0PKVIMG.img, and *then* renamed the RUU zip to 0PKVIMG.zip. Then I looked at the md5sum again. Now it was the same as on my computer... and then the restoration worked.
Still need help?
If you have questions, ask and wait patiently. I am not on this page 24/7, no one is. Just don't panic. Don't demand help. Maybe read this stuff again and see if you made a mistake somewhere.
It is logical that you are annoyed if this stuff doesn't go how you want, sure, it is not the easiest thing to do. I have tried to make it easier, but again, if it still fails, just ask your questions and wait patiently. Treat others like how you want to be treated yourself.
Good luck!

The exact filename of the RUU I used:
Code:
0PKVIM[email protected]50311_15.00_016_F_release_430101_signed.zip
Do you see a few green lines that say "searching for 0pkvimg.zip" when you go to hboot? They disappear pretty quickly.

Is it a fat32 or exfat sdcard? Is the md5sum for 0pkvimg.zip correct? It should be 70eece34781f0b1449f98f03e842f249

i checked and it is fat32 and i still don't get where the md5sum is located and where i should put it .-.
the md5sum is a long string of characters called a checksum. It scans a file and calculates what number it should get. Other types of checksums are SHA-1, SHA-256, RIPE-MD160 and so on.
MD5 is fairly lightweight so that's why we usually choose md5 for files.
md5sum itself is a program that you can run from the command line. If you use linux, it should be on your computer already, so just do 'md5sum 0pkvimg.zip'. On windows, well, you need md5sum.exe and run that from a command line. But I have not used Windows in so many years that I don't know where to find md5sum.exe. I'm sure you can find it easily... I would google for this, but you can do that too so I'll leave that part up to you.
So: you don't put the md5sum anywhere.. you calculate an md5sum and compare it with the number I gave you previously. Hope this makes sense, keep asking if you need more help.
Hi guys,
Im new to all this I just want to ask for little help here my m8s has unlocked bootloader and modified (unofficial) software (says in bootloader)
Im running 5.0.2 soft ver
Soft number 1.16.401.10
Custom recovery TWRP
Phone is rooted but i need to send it back to htc as its dropping calls randomly within 25secs. All i need is the right ruu so its stock again and says relocked (i know how to relock) official soft and that OTAs would work.
Also do i leave this custom recovery there or before the ruu will i put in the stock one, relock the BL and then the ruu?
Any help is much appreciated.

Just relock. The Ruu does the rest! I used 1.11, the exact filename is in my OP. If you have a vendor phone I'm not sure but I think you can still use the same RUU as I have; if not, you will be notified from hboot. Does that answer your question?
Yes thank you.

Tried on windows twice then got a blue screen (on the pc) did the 1.11 on my macbook and phone is now back to official and relocked!
I owe you a pint of beer sir. Thank you!

Great! Glad to hear.
Cyanogenmod is still in the works. I have finally gotten a preliminary version to boot, so to those of you who are interested, head over to the CyanogenMod 12 on M8s thread...
HTC One M8S: Cyanogenmod 12 Discussion

Hiya. Ugh I get how frustrating this can be!! But you're close, so we'll get you sorted out. FYI on saturday and sunday I'm not around much (family comes first ), so replies might take me a while... but we'll figure it out.
You need this exact file:
Code:
0PKVIM[email protected]50311_15.00_016_F_release_430101_signed.zip
Copy that to the sdcard and rename it to 0PVKIMG.zip, don't extract it just rename it. The md5sum should be:
Code:
70eece34781f0b1449f98f03e842f249
If that won't work, we need to figure out why. That comes next. :good:

You should use Cyanogenmod, not Pandora. Pandora is old, is not updated, and contains a very problematic security issue with libstagefright. Use cyanogenmod for your own good!
