First off, I wanna apologize if the has been discussed.
I see a lot of you broke your device by trying some form of method to fix the device in any fancy way.
I had a friend brick by trying the Cyanoboot method.
First off, assuming you have already got CWM installed via the tutorial that's been posted already.
Secondly, make sure you have some form of way to side load apps onto the device. Be it Dropbox, Google Drive, or maybe your using an ADB method.
Lastly, I have found this to be the easiest way.
So, let's begin. Please make sure you have a way of grabbing ROM Manager, back it up, download an .apk from a Google search or just port it from one device to another via an app.
Once you've found your method of getting the side loaded .apk let's make sure it's installed, any newer version will work(Older versions have been reported of not installing and allowing a proper clean reboot). So let's make sure it's a newer updated version, secondly test it and make sure the version you're using will reboot the device properly without issue. Working? Good.
Now let's use our nifty tool as soon as you have CWM installed, you should get a proper reboot!
This is good.
As a side note, I've had mine give issue and make me wait a few for a full reboot into CWM.
Now you're done!

just as an add: my Ouya did not detect a exFAT MicroSD in a USB reader. Maybe CWM only works with some formats?

I do believe there's been a certain format to use, though I'm unaware on how this works.

FAT32 is more or less the "golden" standard for portable devices. glitchhaw, you are aware that exFAT is one of the most laughably locked down filesystems for portable devices out there, right? If you're being official at all, you have to pay royalties to Microsoft to be able to work with exFAT, and I doubt OUYA built support in for that.

i know that I don't like exFAT and that its annoying and glitchy sometimes with android.. but I don't like the fat32 4gb limit.
i wish CWM/TWRP worked with NTFS or EXT, at least they are more reliable.

NTFS support can be added at the kernel level, but I don't know of any recoveries that support it, sadly. And that's unfortunately the nature of the beast, and probably why many recoveries will break files up into multiple archives.
Go full *nix and use ext4 like a man... Unless you're a woman, then use it like a woman.

I am unable to get the unit to respond to Rom managers attempt at rebooting into recovery, I'll give the command via the app and it will just continue sitting there at the menu. CWM was successfully installed and I made a backup. I downloaded the app to my phone and then TB'd it and sent it to my device. did I miss something?
B4 I updated I needed SU to make the reeboot. Feature work.

I'd assume if it's not working that way then to try the ADB method instead, again, please report all issues to me.

I have to say this is probably the worst how to/tutorial I have seen on XDA.
If you're intent is to help users inexperienced with CWM, then you need to write clearly defined steps. The whole thing is vague. You don't give links to a single file or other tutorial, a how to shouldn't keep telling people to do a Google search for things. On four steps you make people search for files or another how-to.
What is the new version of Rom manager? How do you make sure it will reboot the device properly? Be specific.
You say flashing Roms is easy as long as you have a properly packed Rom. How does one go about checking that? How do you flash the Rom?

Lastly, I HIGHLY doubt that you've read every tut on here, and trust me, I've seen so much worse that go down to the nick of; "If you wipe and install first, this version will fully brick the device, this version will half brick it".

You reported me for what? That your feelings are hurt?
Ostensibly you created this tutorial to prevent people from bricking their OUYAs. That is why I was expecting a detailed walkthrough and was very disappointed. You created a tutorial on your phone that is lacking vital info that I have already detailed. I did not bash you to the fullest. You admit that your tut is not fully helpful, and I've seen other comments on another tut of yours that were a great deal harsher than mine about your motivation to post a poorly written tut.

What app do I use to make my phone act as a router and/or tether? I can't find Tether Wifi in the market... is there another app you recommend? I do not live in a 3g area... this would be only used at a beach house with no internet... I realize edge is slower but its better than nothing. Is this possible?

Any advice on pimping out the G1? I saw a video on youtube where the guys dialer was large rectangular buttons, maybe purple too... how do you get this? (better keyboard?) I've been looking at Teds Hero Theme, waiting on a version for Cyan 3.6.8.1. Do I need to delete open home after/before a theme, does not seem like it will be of any use after I do this hero theme from Ted, right?

Its fine that you went straight to cyanogens rom. Its good to load cyanogens new recovery (1.4), its in the pimped out recovery and all instructions are in there. There are different ways to partition a sd card, the way I do mine is thru Ubuntu (tuturial is in my sig). Wifi tether for root users is what allows your phone to act as a router. Theres alot of cool apps, you just got to play with them to figure them out or narrow down what your trying to find out. And theres a search feature, use that or be flamed if you ask repeated questions.

No, it's cool that you went straight to cyan. See when that guide was written those were the most popular roms that's why they are there.

I would load the Audio resources since those are your ringtones and notification tones. Though if you plan on making your own it isn't really necessary. As for the recovery image you should definitely download. The instructions are easy and simple so just read.

Always search first, and if you can't find it search again. Don't just search 1 subforum. Believe me the answers are out there.
Yeah, I promise I do search, but again I just kinda seem to go from one thing to another and then I realize there are several ways to do the same thing.
Regarding the partition, no offense taken... but I'm not comfortable enough with the process so thought I would try and get more guidance than what I can find in the several threads with different methods.

I see where you are coming from since I too am a noob. So I'm guessing you're rooted and have a custom rom installed already. Soo here is the guide I used to partition my SD card. It is a very, self-explanatory guide. I have no computer programming background and this guide made it seem easy to me. You're going to need cyan's pimped out recovery. Like I said just find that thread and it has the directions to install it. As for apps, I found what I thought was cool browsing the app forum here and on androidcommunity.com

Exactly that... its a backup of basically your entire phone from the point that you created the backup, if you happen to flash another ROM and you don't like it, or it breaks, you can hit the restore option and return to this moment in time for you phone.
Holy crap that was a ton of questions... but ye as the other guys said just search the forum, all of the questions you asked have been answered.

I have created a nandroid backup, copied the folder from my SD card to my computer for emergencies.
If I add a new ROM and wipe.... how would I restore my phone? The backup I created would be erased from the phone right? And the backup on my computer would be from another rom, does that matter (assuming no, but I dont know the first thing about how to restore my phone from doing a wipe).

when you wipe everything on your sd remains only data from the phones internal is wiped, so as long as you didnt delete it from sd after backing up to computer your good. Also worse come to worse you can use a card reader to get it on there..
As far as your settings and stuff reseting, thats why some people get to lazy to wipe you can try my backuppro (i use this) or backup for root (dont know to much about) to back up your settings, bookmarks, sms, and contacts if youd like. Note though that your contacts and all that will come back after signing back into google, and your apps will also remain on the sd..
^ ahh... completely forgot that the SD card was left intact after a wipe. That makes perfect sense and thank you thank you. I have backup for root now but will go to the market and try your app. THank you!

Let me say I had an EVO and used Unrevoked to root it and all I did was use that for wifi.
So now I have an unrooted Nexus. I am in a position that I want some of the custom things but have not rooted and a lot of this technical stuff floors me at this point and I do not want to brick my phone.
Can anyone tell me what it means to install via recovery, how to do a backup and what deoxxed (I know it is spelled wrong) is?
I want to put a custom home screen, I like the blue market I see and I like the clear MMS that is posted, but the install instructions just confuses me.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I really am wanting to customize my Nexus 4G.

Check out the One Click Root thread in the Nexus S 4G Development section. See if that helps a little more. Your probably going to get flamed for posting this in this section, but oh well. Read that and try to get rooted first. Then if you need more help after that feel free to shoot me a PM and ill try to help you more. Read different threads as well, just search XDA for root NS4G. Hit me up if you need some help with anything.

I went through the exact same thing. If you start reading more threads it will start coming to you. When you root, you need the drivers (adb and fastboot) installed on your computer, they come with either pdanet or sdk which you can find the download links to with a quick search of the forums. Find the stickied section of NS4G dev section and those should have all the files you need. Cwm is Clockwork Mod Recovery. It is flashed after unlocking the bootloader using a command prompt. After rooting and flashing cwm, you boot into recovery(cwm) and follow the instructions from a root guide to flash your new rom. I think BuglessPete has a great tutorial on root and flashing a rom. Find that and you're good to go. Don't get discouraged. It is NOT as hard or complicated as it seems. You will be surprised at how simple these guys have made it for us newcomers. Make sure you give them a thanks.

So it was a day from you know what. I got rooted first this morning, I did the first update that I wanted which was the blue market, epic fail. I spent the whole day trying to get my market to work again, no go. I had not backed up (stupid me) and when put that new market in it was a FC galore. I tried downloading other market apk's including the market that is due to be released and none would install. I ended up flashing the phone with Oxygen ROM. Now I have to get the phone back to the way I like it, lots of apps to download (not sure why they did not restore since I am set to back up/restore from google servers) and go from there.
I will be doing more I am sure, lots of reading to do. Thanks to the two of you.
I heard something recently about fileshare sites being shut down...is that what I'm experiencing. Tried to download files from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359068 and none of the links work. Actually a couple did but said I could only download a file I uploaded myself. I tried downloading from another thread on this site and had the same problem. Any solutions/alternatives? How can I download from the link I posted above?

-Enable adhoc connection so I can use my windows mobile phone as a hotspot for my tabl, and
-Enable USB charging for my tab in my car and elsewhere, not just wall jack.
Based on what I've read, I need busybox (Titanium back up says it's installed but when I downloaded an app called wifiadhocenabler, it says it is not installed. Installing it from the market says I need Nand Unlock and this is where I'm stuck at the moment. Do you know how to perform this on the P7310? Or an easier way to meet the objectives above?

I assume you're on a stock firmware. If I were you, I'd flash this specific version which is already rooted and has busybox as you can read in the OP. Also, flash the v2d version of the motley kernel and go here for the USB charging script and instructions on enabling. I know that last link is for the 10.1, but it is the one motley linked to in the v2b version changelog in his kernel thread.
After my soft brick yesterday, I used Odin to "install" the version you attached in your General Guide post P310XARKJ5_P7310UEKJ5_HOME.tar.md5). That's the one, right?
Anyway, the good news is, I decided to install BusyBox without doing the Nand Unlock (maybe it was already done?), and it worked! The wifiadhocenabler app works now and I have a connection to my wm phone! Yay! Before trying the app (for the sake of onlookers) I tried the other method with the wpa_supplicant, such as the one here: http://androidtablethacks.com/android-tablet-hacks/how-to-enable-adhoc-wifi-on-android-tablets/ and it did not work for me. If you mean flashing a CWM package as the motley kernel, a file goes in the SDcard, you access the CWM Recovery and flash. That's a generic way BUT depending on what you will flash you may have to wipe. That's why I avoided altogether putting generic instructions regarding CWM packages in my guide (instructions may vary between ROM and kernels). Read your flashable package's thread carefully.

No, lol. If you want to flash the motley kernel just follow that thread's instructions. I gave you the motley kernel thread link in a previous post. For kernels, no wipe is necessary, for ROMs, yes.

You're welcome. Some people have the tendency NOT to wipe while flashing ROMs...yet complain later on the road. Always wipe when it comes to ROMs if you want to avoid issues. The only bugs you will experience are the ones that come with the ROM already. Better safe than sorry.
Ah, that leads me to wonder...When my tab was soft bricked and I used Odin3 and inserted the KJ5 file into the PDA section, and so on (I think that was flashing), was I supposed to do a wipe before I did that? If so, would it be better if I started from scratch again? ...hoping not, but better now than latter I'm thinking.

No. ODIN clears everything (including kernels, ROMs and CWM Recoveries). Everything back to stock. I was just referring to flashing other custom ROMs (non-ODIN, i.e. CWM flashable) procedures. Stick to the thread instructions in your chosen ROM and you'll be fine. It's just that some don't follow instructions and due to that, they may experience weird bugs.
That's good news, and strange, because after I used Oden3 (in the way I previously described), all my apps and files were still in tact. Does it just affect the system and not the file memory?

That is because you didn't check F.Reset Time on the left side of ODIN before flashing. It is advisable to make sure it is checked. Thanks, I'm gonna put that little but important detail in my guide (dunno how I missed that one ). I advise using Titanium Backup (for apps backup) and then ODIN. You might be fine as you are, but if you ever experience something weird then you know.

My tablet is definitely a little laggy now, but that could be the 3.2 HC. Since I did not check that off, does it mean that it did not install on a clean wipe? I'm wondering if I should just do it while I remember the path to how I got where I'm at now. I doubt I'll remember everything down the road.
I have been making nandroid backups as well as titanium app backups.

I'm back to do my clean wipe. I performed the wipe/data reset in nandroid and now it's saying there is an update from KJ5 to LA3. Do you still think the custom kj5 is better than the stock LA3? I'm wondering if I should just install the update, root, install the motley kernel and go from there...?

While I'm waiting, I flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375112 and then I noticed I have the old CMR so I downloaded your updated package: GTab89Files and I cannot paste a single file from that folder onto my tab. I can paste files from other folders, but this one I copy and when I go to paste the paste option is not enabled; if I drag I get a little red circle with a line through it. Any ideas as to why it's rejecting?

With the release of a stable CM9 candidate for the SGH-T849, I wanted to move away from the stock firmware and use a open-source/less-bloatware/pixiedust/unicornmagic firmware. Just like the fat kid squeezing his way into a candy emporium, I ran at the chance to install CM9.
I loaded the page that I had bookmarked for this very purpose:

I followed the guide for Windows machines. I did not perform any pre-flashing backups, as all data was already backed-up. Furthermore, I'd like to fully format the internal and external SD cards for use with the tablet.
I installed all necessary drivers, and installed Technomancer's ClockworkMod onto the tablet through Heimdall (via download mode). The flash was deemed a success in the command prompt, and the tablet was rebooted by the computer. The blue bar zipped across the tab to show transfer of zImage.
However, after reboot, the tablet is stuck at the T-Mobile loading screen. I force shut down the device by holding the power button, and after shutdown unplug it from the computer.
I turn the tablet back on, and I get the same T-Mobile loading screen. By now, the tablet is looking at me like I'm stupid, which it's fully right in doing. I turn off the tablet by holding the power button, and the tablet turns off.
I try to see the battery level when plugged in via USB-AC power, but I am greeted with a battery icon that has a loading logo.
Before starting this adventure, I made sure the tablet was fully charged.
I can still enter into download mode when connected to the computer. I have only tried Heimdall, and have yet to read up on ODIN.

This is the first time that I have ever tried to flash a firmware onto an Android device. I have successfully flashed my two Nokia N8's with firmwares and have dealt with iPod touch 2Gs jailbreaks, so I am not *completely* computer incompetent. :silly:
I have tried to find the original firmware for the SGH-T849, but all the download links that I have tried to find are either dead or removed. Since only the zImage was replaced, I was hoping to simply re-flash with the factory zImage. Since I can't find the original factory firmware, I have yet to try this option.
I'm not sure what bricked state the tab is in. I'd like to hope it's soft-bricked, but that's probably not the case.
If I need to perform diagnostics on the device (or if any extra informaiton needs to be provided), I can edit this original posting with updated information. I have easy access to a Windows machine, but I may be able to get access to Ubuntu via disk image on another computer.
I don't want to be the jerk who states that "I solved it!" and leaves everyone in the dust: I'll post everything and anything that happens with this problem for future reference.
Other "stuck at loading screen posts" seem very similar to this, but solutions seem to be very divergent. Therefore, I am hoping for some clarity. Considering that the wiki post was designed for the SGH-T849, I think this thread should act as an appendix to the above wiki page for flashing this device.

The missing pictures provided through the Dropbox link at the thread provided is giving a 404 error. Knowing this, there aren't any pictures to follow.
Does anyone have a link to the pictures that *isn't* dead? Perhaps hosting on imgur or bayimg would sove this issue for future users.

I followed the guide posted, and downloaded all the necessary files (some of the links in the original thread were missing).
Regardless, I downloaded similar files, and cross-checked the SHA-1 hash against what was listed on the Overcome website.
Flashed once (to Samsung factory reset), followed with a second flash to Overcome. Yahoo! :victory:
Thanks again for your guidance, even when I seemed to be a bit of an annoyance.
Again, for those looking to flashing a similar device, I should be holding the files on my computer (just in case). Just in case I need to return the favor.

Update on my GT-P1000/SGH-T849: T-Mobile to Overcome to CyanogenMod9/CM9
For reference:
Some people may be confused on how to move from Overcome to CyanogenMod.
The Overcome guide gives directions for wiping caches before installing the Overcome ROM. However, in the PDF guide, this is crossed out, as it is handled by a script in the Overcome ROM.
CM9 for the GT-P1000 doesn't seem to have that built in, which would cause a boot loop if the cache isn't cleared before installing CM9 for the GT-P1000. Since you can't pop the battery, force-shut-down the tablet by holding the power key until the tab shuts down.
After this, follow the Overcome guide to the point where the section of clearing caches is crossed-out. At this point, it's probably best to re-stock your tab (as priyana always suggests ad nauseum). Read between the crossed-out lines to clear caches, and install CM9 for the GT-P1000. It would be a good idea to install GApps at the same time using the same install procedure.

Unbelievably, I have *exactly to the letter* the same problem you had a few months ago. Like you I have a SGH-T849, and like you was trying to breathe some life into it by flashing it with Cyanogenmod. And sadly, like you I "soft bricked" it, so now all I get is a stuck T-Mobile screen on boot.
I've been trying to follow your lead and use Overcome + Odin to make things boot again, but I'm unable to get most of the files necessary. Anything that links to a multiupload.com address right now are broken links. Does anyone have other ways to access the files needed for the Overcome process?
If you have any insight on the specific step of getting the Tab out of its current bricked state, I'd much appreciate it.
Also, SGH-T849 has been mentioned as needing a "different modem". What/where is the correct file to use for that step?

I do not want to post a public link, as people will blindly download it, hoping something works. Better to reply to this thread to get the required package. That way, there's a sense of order for this device.
The size of the package is ~1.23GB.
There are some extra files there, as I was trying to make a full copy of all possible files (to possibly help other users). Please don't be scared with the different modems, just make sure to PICK THE RIGHT MODEM.... or you may screw up your tablet (which you want to avoid).
There is a PDF guide of the steps required for using the different files. I would print this off/have it open on another computer, and read through it SEVERAL times to understand what you are doing. I am not saying it's hard, it is just very technically detailed. Make sure to have an afternoon free for the entire procedure. There is a point in the guide which I labelled as "start here," as I took a break, and didn't want to lose my specific spot. If you want to break up the procedure over two sessions, that'd be a good place to stop.
I am 99.99% sure that all the files are present in the RAR'd directory. However, if by some clerical error I forgot to include a specific file (which may be in another directory on my laptop), please let me know of the exact filename so it can be added to an updated archive I upload and send to interested users.
Simply referring to a post (that may be outdated, littered with dead links, and people thanking in-reply instead of properly using a button) does NOT help potential users/customers entering the Android family.
All I ask is that you publicly reply to this message (when you get the file and go through the steps) if: (1) the package sent to you is complete, and; (2) the package provided actually works.
If you leave this thread empty with no reply, you're not cooperating...which is against my spirit of "willing to cooperate".
If you would like to install CyanogenMod, there is a highlighted step with a red note, and a red box pointing to the red note. I did that, as it is a VERY important step (specifically, making sure you delete the cache to install CyanogenMod properly, as CM packages do not clear caches from previous installations automatically: it must be done manually by the user).
For reference, I am successful in running CyanogenMod 9.0 (stable).

My next step is going all the way to CM9...I'm confused on a few aspects-- First, is it correct to assume that I need to flash to a CM9 kernel before flashing the CM9 ROM?

The guide was overcome, that is why overcome ROM was flashed using CWM.
But, actually you don't need that.
You only need to Odin flash the Overcome kernel.
That is it. You don't even need to wait for the robotic voice to complete its thing.
Just force it off.
Then boot to recovery.
use that recovery to flash CM9, twice.
You are kind of right, you need CM9 kernel, but it is done by the first flash
(spot the CWM is different from overcome one, after first flash).
Second flash will install CM9.
Then you flash gapps and reboot.
If you reboot after CM9 without gapps, you can still flash gapps later, but you won't get the setup wizard (the one that ask you to set up wifi, put gmail id, choose to use gmail to backup, bla bla)
So just remember, in the future, restock means Odin flash GB-stock-safe.
Then you will want to Odin flash the Overcome kernel because that is the easiest way to install CWM.
From there it is flashing from CWM.

I am 100% up and running with CM9 on my SGH-T849 (T-Mobile branded original 7" Galaxy Tab), thanks to the excellent help from willing_to_cooperate and priyana.
FYI, 2 biggest roadblocks to getting this completed were:
1. Inability to find the necessary files because of broken links, downloads found on sites blocked as malware, etc. [SOLVED] by willing_to_cooperate and him putting together an awesome .rar archive of all necessary files, including a critical annotation in the Overcome guide PDF that told me about the necessary step of wiping cache when flashing CM9
2. Inability to find well-written or even correct information about what to do. As a gadget hobbyist, I have been doing Linux stuff for almost a decade. That community tends to be very sharp and focused to task. The android mod community is quite a bit different I'm finding out-- for every thread with good discussion points there are 25 that say "How do I tweak teh andrd better so I can show everyone how kewl I am". I will concede that this just comes with the territory. Someone tweaking their stock T-mobile phone is quite a bit different than someone installing Ubuntu on a laptop. Nevertheless, [SOLVED] again by willing_to_cooperate and priyana on this thread. Kudos to both of you.
For the record, though I jumped through a few more hoops than was required, these were the steps from getting to "soft-bricked" Galaxy Tab SGH-T849 to fully running CM9 w/gapps.
1. Follow Overcome guide documentation to restock stable Gingerbread
2. Follow Overcome guide to flash Overcome kernel 4.0.0 using Odin
3. Boot and connect Tab as USB storage device
4. Copy CM9 and gapps zip files to mounted Tab (which is the internal SD card)
5. Boot into recovery mode (clockwork mod, which was installed in step 2)
6. Wipe flash/cache through Clockwork Mod
7. Install CM9 and gapps through Clockwork Mod
8. Boot and rejoice in the CM9 awesomeness

For the record (as you already have CM9 working on your tablet), I did not include CyanogenMod (CM) releases in the package that I sent to you.
The reason I didn't do that is that the CM ROMs are always updating, and it is easier for the user to find the correct and safest location to download the plain CM ROM files.
For those wondering what address I'm referring to:

To clarify, the package that I sent is what I used to get my tablet out of stock (T-Mobile) via Overcome, then updating to CM9.0.
You can select stable, release candidate (RC) or nightly from the menu on the left-hand side. If you are just starting, I would strongly suggest you use the most recent stable ROM for your device (that way, you minimize the risk of using a ROM that may still have bugs).
Good to hear of success relating to your device.
To other people that need the package that I sent to bklass (as you cannot find all the files required due to possible broken links that may happen now or in the future), please PM me and refer to this thread.
I will try to re-write the Overcome guide on a long-term "to-do list" that will clearly delimit what point is restocking, and what point is flashing with another ROM. That, or updating the relevant CM wiki page with proper steps. That way, there is no need to search for a PDF or picture file with relevant steps, just refer to the proper steps in the CM wiki link.
When I rewrite the guide, I'll make sure to include files that are required, with relevant MD5 hashes appended.

Second, there was a mention earlier in the thread it would be a good idea to go back to stock before moving to CM9. If that's the case, why did I install the Overcome ROM in the first place? Was that a wasted step, considering my end goal was CM9?

Hi! Do you still have that RAR file? I followed the steps at the cyanogenmod site and ended up with the same t-mobile image.
I can still connect to my phone typing "adb shell" on the terminal, and execute commands there, but I do not know how to bring it back to life.

If you're using terminology like shell, I'll assume your on a *nix system.
In short, the files are Windows-based, and should have all components.

Hi Holykotar,
Hmm... Let me troubleshoot. I'll be approaching your problem from a "cross-examination/troubleshooting" perspective. Please answer all the questions below:
1) Are you having a bootloop? That is, tablet boots up, goes to a logo, then repeats until you get bored?
If you can, it may be wise to enter recovery, delete all caches, and re-start the tablet.
The first time I tried going through the steps, I had a bootloop as the caches were incompatible with the ROM. This may be your case, but it is difficult to determine with the limited information that you have provided me.
Therefore, as stated, I would start off by going into recovery, and deleting all caches. If that works, let me know.
2) What version of ODIN are you using?
Later versions may be incompatible. I used Odin3 v1.7 with success on Windows 7 Ultimate. Also, it could be an issue of not starting ODIN with administrative privileges.
3) What OS are you using?
This may seem silly, but good information for people reading this thread. As stated, I used Windows 7 Ultimate.
4) Have you installed the required computer drivers so the tablet is successfully recognized by the computer?
This would fix some interface issues. If the software (ODIN) can't communicate with the tablet (GT-P1000), then it may be a driver issue.
5) What guide are you using? Better yet, do you have all the required files?
If you are using the guide entitled: "The Overcome Experience" (I have it as a PDF), then there shouldn't be any problems. However, if you are having issues with a proper guide, PM me and I will send you a link to download all necessary files to flash the GT-P1000 (T-Mobile version) without any problems. I request that you PM me for the files, as I don't want the download link distributed (as my bandwidth is fast but limited).

Can someone advise me on whether it is possible to update to the new Rom without the use of a USB.
My g\f's phone doesn't have usb its bust for some reason.
Is there any other way to load the latest 5.0 cwm, the new bootloader and then install a zip from cwm.
Any help is much appreciated.

1) You should clarify the title. Something like "How to update to v28E without USB". Imagine every thread like "LG P990 question", it's absurd.
2) You should tell us if you want the vlite or the full version of v28E.
3) CWM 5.0 is not the latest.
4) Yes, it is possible, put everything in the sd card =P.

First -- In case you want to go full metal on P990, that means repartitioning, new BB and full flash, you need to flash. There is no other way than using NVFlash, as described in lovely thread in development by Stephan G.
Reasons - reformatting is not easily done from within phone which runs on these partitions, same goes for reflashing recovery from within recovery.
Second -- not sure why without USB?
Third -- there is CWM-possible way by using TonypAndHarsh's vlite V28E rom, yet this goes without new BB and with possibility of no call audio issue.
So, to repeat my answer to your main point, no. There is no way to fully install new system/BB without USB connection and PC. You have to flash it.
Hello. I think you can instal the new ICS without your usb cable.
1. you need to instal rom manager from PlayStore and flash from here the CWM recovery. I recomend you to instal the version 5.2.0
2. Make a nandroid backup before you do something to your actual rom.
3. Use titanium backup to backup all your apps and settings.
4. Put ICS rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1959545 in your sd card (i think you have at leat a card reader and on adapter to put your microsd card) and follow the isntruction from the download page.

I'm sorry but I disagree with you... I think that anyone that thinks about the title for 2 seconds can understand that if the guy is asking if it's possible to flash v28e without USB of course he means the "full" stock ICS leak, the one which requires you to redo your partitions and whatnot... the one that is only possible through nvflash, thus, it is not possible to update to v28e without USB.
Or, you could just reply... hey, it's not possible to flash "the real deal", but you can flash tonyp's "lite" version, which uses the old bootloader and a patched kernel (thus some bugs might come from that) and all you need to do is put the files in the sd card...
I don't know why you had to be so "blunt"...

Thank you for that information, I am currently trying to find out if there is a way to install the right version of CWM, then try to install the new bootloader from within CWM? I am not even sure if that is possible.
I think she is just going to have to get her phone sent back, the only problem is the o2x is discontinued, I doubt they will replace it or fix it. They will probably try and replace it, but only give her something that I wouldn't consider a good replacement. But we'll have to speak to her insurance company first.
I have seen these phones selling on ebay, they are about £100 from what I can gather, it depends what she wants to do. Could buy a new one and sell her one, just a shame really, i found another thread about the USB problem and they had to send it back and get it repaired, must be either a problem with the connection or the board, I would think the board as it charges fine, which is really weird.
Anyway, thank you for you help, i will keep searching to see what i can find.

Just cause you didnt mention it before, but are you running a hacked version of ICS right now on the phone? If you are, it could be a matter of the ADP drivers on your computer? If it was a stupid idea sry. It was just something that pop'd into my head

I got a bug on my O2X USB as well, and I managed to solve it temporary, (the bug comes back after some time, but the process has worked for me everytime the bug comes back, I'm currently testing to try to identify the cause of the bug), it is kind of a long process but I could get back my usb sync, if you want I made a tutorial of what I exactly did, after this process you can install any stock or custom rom without any problem just make sure to follow the instructions as they are described

I downloaded a stock Rom that had been modded.
So I could be sure that I would have cwm in case anything went wrong.
Rom loaded and was able to get into the secret menu.
I will say that under USB connection type there was misspelling where it said:
LG USB adnroid
Not sure if that would affect it.
I selected that item.
Then went to port.
Selected the different options in ordered and waited about 10 seconds on each turn, then pressed find any changes in device manager unplugged and plugged the USB.
Then tried in different orders but with not luck.
Took the battery out and tried holing the vol up down the plugging in USB but to no avail.
Then pressed power and vol down.
The phone tuned on and showed LG sign then switched off.
I tried pressing check any changes as the LG sign came on but nothing.
Then tried nvflash as the LG sign came on but nvflash showed no connection.
Very weird, definitely dead but still charges, doesn't make sense.
Oh well
Ordered an atrix with work and play kit for 68 quid, has a broken digitizer which will cost 20 pound, on average, off ebay.
Thanks for the help though.
May take the 2x apart when new phone comes and see if there's any physical damage on te board.
