-Help- Lag After Jelly Bean Update. - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi Everyone,I am new to the forum(But following it from many days)
As the title suggests, after I updated the firmware through Official LG PC Suite, i am experiencing massive lags.
Used RAM is always at approx 700 Mb. Opening more than 1 tab in Chrome phone lag badly. There are launcher redraws and much more.
Tried a factory reset but it made no difference.

Usually wiping cache, valpik and resetting to factory settings before flashing solves the problem, and most of the time its an app, usually a battery saver app with permissions to modify CPU speeds that causes this.
Also please stop capitalizing each and every word in you sentence. It's not a title!

Thanks for your quick reply. I do not have any battery saver app. I did not factory reset the device before updating.

Btw,thanks for your suggestion on my writing.

You should carry out a factory reset AFTER the upgrade. Wiping cache and dalvik (not valpik) cache is done from a custom recovery, which I preusme you have not installed on your phone?

Same problem.... I reflashed kdz v20a ,after that I did factory reset...used backup to restore filles...

Your not using uk v20a are you? I'm having real problems with it and I can not set cpu speeds. They just keep reverting back to original or 51mhz. I need help with this.

No....still lags

Yes, I was using the UK version and didn't see any problems, but didn't try to change the CPU speeds.
Now running CM, so can't confirm for you.

Used RAM Is Always at approx 700 Mb.Opening More Than 1 tab in Chrome Lags the Whole Phone. If I Press The Home Button,Then All icons And Widgets Disappear And Slowly Build Up Again.Tap On Apps Button And It Takes 3 Second To Open The List.Phone Lags In Almost All Areas.

I suggest you go back to ics like i did. jellybean is full of crap and ram usage is always high for no reason.
If not. then root the phone and freeze some apps, disable others and uninstall the ones you don't use. to keep your launcher from redrawing then force it into memory with ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 paste this at the end of your build.prop in system folder.

So,this is the only way to get rid of lag? Would V20b solve it? I do not want to rollback to ics because i am new to these things and do not know how to do it perfectly.

Not got a problem with my phone on v20a, nor have most people.
Suggests to me that some people don't follow the instructions correctly or are just very unlucky.

the only way you can follow instructions incorrectly is if you brick the phone... and i found a lot of issues with jb mainly performance.

Lagg is resolved with a factory reset. Dont restore your files and apps just install them again after factory reset! Not all files and apss from ICS have same settings and functionality on JB so that can lead to lagg..
RAM is here to be used,if RAM isnt used then your phone isnt performing his full potential! If RAM isnt used that means that apps in the phone are not working,so when you open them you will get lagg because they have to start up every time..Some apps drain battery so you can grenify them but apps have to run for your phone to be fully exploited!

I did the same thing(made factory reset without restoring old apps) but the phone is still lagging do not know why.
Btw,can i get to know how much ram usage is normal in jb??

You should install through LGFlash Tool for the cleanest install, after that root and install your apps again. It's a pain in the ass but, the best way... About ram, if it's being used, the phone performance is better but that might reflects in the battery life. I use to close all processes after use the phone and my battery life is very good, the delay to access the apps 1st time after being stopped is about half of a second, soo... I can live with that.
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app

Seems to me that as long as you have all the default services running, you hit less than some limit of ram, or a period of inactivity, and the OS preemtively starts garbage-collecting programs in mem - among others, the launcher/homescreen app. Makes sense, more or less, to do that. Because it'll free up priority for apps that don't actually receive input (such as the launcher screen).
But on the other hand, homescreens can contain lots of apps, and could take more than 5 seconds to load, so not such a brilliant idea to destroy the cache. Meanwhile, services you never use tend to poll the system on their own, and suddenly they're treated with more attention than the programs you're actually using..
Seems the running programs being replaced by fifty useless services is less of a problem the more free ram you have, though.

And that's why a lot of "garbage" was un-installed on my device (other users made the same).

[Q] [help] problem with Xperia T

I don't know is this really a problem or not, but it really bother. my broblem is about multitasking, it looks like my phone doesn't have multitasking (like ios! )
for example I open opera and let it load some pages then ttpod and play a music, after them go to an explorer, and I go back to opera it's now closed and I have to re-load the pages.
overall I can't keep more than 2-3 apps open at the same time.
is there any solution for this problem?

this is not so normal, actually the only possible limitation for background proccess is placed in Settings/Developers Options

try it, set it to the "Default Number" or "Max"
Or use chrome, I have no problems with that keeping pages loaded

Qorbunet dadash.
I've tried background process in the setting, but I still have this problem. There is no "max" option, only "at most 4 processes"
I've tried some tweaks with some apps such as Pimp my Rom and Android tuner but to be honest it made it even worse! and I had to do full wipe!
@greg, it's not just about opera, I can't run more than 2-3 apps in background.
I have stock 4.1.2 with doomkernel v7 rotted and unlocked.

you use opera for FB, hm?
that version of Opera mini comes with many bugs, one of them is AutoRotation, when you rotate your phone, it jumps out of the app, maybe another bug is what you are facing, not being able to chache the pages in background, MAYBE...
try another browser, like Default or Dolphin or Chrome, and see if the problem is still there with those apps, if not, then the problem is BUGGY opera mini, which i guess so

Oh, please! IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT OPERA! I said it "just as an example"
I can't keep running more than 2-3 apps open at the same time. For example I open A and then B an keep them open then go to menu and open app C, by opening C my phone closes app A!

i DID understand, Kamiar...
it's so weird
never experienced this issue, in NO phone of mine
i know this might a bit noobie guide, but first of all, uninstall unnecessary apps, maybe you've loaded your phone with a ton of apps, which certainly eat up RAM even if they are not running, that's the way Android manages RAM, so, uninstall whatever thing you don't use...
if the problem still exists there, then update your phone or flash another firmware, for example go back to ICS to see it helps or not..
and let us know, we will hepl you as much as possilbe, bro

All my apps are less than 80, I've uninstalled or freezed many apps by titanium back up. I have always more than 200-300 free RAM, and with a task killer I have about 400-500 free RAM space.
I have this problem since I've bought this phone (more than 3 months) and during this time I always had this problem, but recently it became worse.
Hello my best friend kamiar
How are you my friend?
I think about your pb:
1.maybe this is Ram pb
2.go to settimgs/developer/ limit bg apps change value of that
3.mybe your Rom was limited for apps bg....
Please buy s4 kamiar
About opra i will fix rotation fc i think i can.... and wil upload that..

ooooooooffffff, if you could fix rotation bug, it would be highly appreciated bro

Removal of bloatware really helps here. I find Firefox sometimes closes as it uses a lot of memory, but it beats all others in terms of usability + ability to download any files (sometimes chrome or stock just downloads a dumb .txt file, can't believe they still haven't fixed that) but yeah remove useless apps it helps a lot

lol. you install 20 to 25 apps and still wonder why the phone needs so much ram? apps like twitter, whatsapp are cached in the memory. If you install more of apps like these then you can hardly expect smoothness. just install the neccessaries.

Hi arshad, I think if you want to boost your ace you can try to turn off every unnecessary apps notification. This reduce battery ram usage. Of course, you won't have push notification.

Phone is soooo slow!!!

Afternoon peeps,
Recently my Mini 2 has just ground to an unusable, good-for-nothing pile of crap.
- It is soooo slow to do anything.
- It rotates the screen when it's not being rotated.
- It locks in the middle of performing tasks.
- It blacks out for 30 seconds or so before becoming responsive again.
- Voice on Google Maps or Runkeeper apps keeps glitching.
I'm running CM12 [12-20150411-NIGHTLY-memul] with TWRP recovery.
Reinstalling the ROM returns the phone to a normal function, temporarily, before descending into chaos.
Clearing the cache partition sort of works....for a little while.
I/O Scheduler is ROW.
Storage isn't anywhere near full with 3.65Gb free.
Available RAM is on average about 170Mb
My thoughts are that an app is causing this.
Can anyone throw some troubleshooting ideas into the pot?
Thanks

Clearing cache and ram just makes it worst as Android works different from PC's.
It seems you're in the good path as just need to find what APP is doing that. Providing that you run CM12 without extras and its ok, than try install/uninstall one app at the time until you find the one its causing trouble

Well CM12 its a bit buggy so if you gonna run high end apps i suggest stock ROM.
Regarding RAM, android manages that pretty well for you. The more ram in use, the better things work. (if you know how RAM works) same thing with cache. So don't use stupid programs to clear RAM as they are useless.
You can google for more info.

Interesting, the reason I'm on CM with this HTC is because the Stock ROM also showed the same symptoms, so I moved to CM to try to cure. I really liked the stock UI and was reluctant to move away from it.
I do know RAM and that does make sense - more stuff in RAM = quicker access to resouces, but surely its still a good troubleshooting step to clear down if these problems arise?

Reading back your posts, you might need to do full re-installation .
If you install Google Apps bundle, start with re-flashing that. if still no good then go for the all ROM.
But you say that it also happened with stock rom so finding the app that's causing that its crucial.
Also note the apps that stay open in the background (click the 2 Squares) only nine stay open but all you need its a game to keep eating all the resources.

I've begun by uninstalling OneFootball and Facebook and performance has improved somewhat. This might be quite a long process as im going go leave a day or so between each action.
I have fully reinstalled before, but selected to restore data and apps from backup. Maybe I'll try setting up as a new device if it comes to it. Want to avoid that tho.

Did you find a solution? I'm facing about the same issue with my HTC One Mini 2 after installing CM12. It ran perfectly smooth in the beginning but now it is soooo slow and it takes forever to load almost any apps (especially Facebook and Snapchat).

I think it's either Facebook or Facebook Messenger, probably more messenger.
I first uninstalled Facebook Messenger and performance improved. Still a little glitchy, but much better.
Then I uninstalled Facebook. Not much change.
Facebook is now reinstalled, but messenger isn't and I've been happier with the phone.
I'm still getting some background apps crashing, but not as much as before uninstalling FB messenger.
Not really a 'solution' as it could be different for you, but as mentioned previously, start uninstalling an app at a time. Leave a few days inbetween so you can tell if it changed anything. If not, reinstall and try again.
Same issue here with mini 2..i dont have facebook or that football app

[HELP]MOTO G 2 slowing down.

Hi all,
I have been using Moto G2 since October 2014 a year ago I unlocked the bootloader and flashed CM 12 and now using CM 13. In the first few days, the performance of the phone is good but as days are passing the performance keeps on slowing down. I'm now using a 32gb sd card also I have moved most of the apps to sd card but still the problem persists.I clean the cache memory from the "Storage and USB" option in settings and have been using Ccleaner for a long time now but I see no improvements what should I do?
Should I switch to any other ROM or is there any app causing the problem?
Or should I revert back to stock ROM?
Problems I'm facing:--
1. Slow loading of settings
2. Apps becoming unresponsive(these were the apps which used to run smoothly).
3. If 5-6 apps are open the home screen takes 10-12 second to load all the shortcut icons.
And there are some other issues.
Pls help me out with this ASAP is anyone else facing the same issue?
Thanks for reading.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Hi! After years of suffering with 1 ghz mono core and 403mbs of RAM here are my tips:
What's causing all this is the low amount of RAM available on the Moto G in comparison to other devices. 1gb is really pushing the limits nowadays. So you'll have to compensate for that. The only way to do that is by making it so that you can't multi-task that well but the app you're on atm runs great.
1. Get Kernel Aduitor, go to Low RAM Killer and set it to aggressive. This should already make it a lot faster.
2. Reduce background activities by disabling unused sync operations. Go to Settings>Accounts and then check them all one by one and disable sync for whatever isn't needed.
3. Get a Custom Kernel. Always a good idea.
If this all doesn't help there is one last option. Go to Developer Options and scroll to the bottom. You will find some options for background activities. Set it so that it doesn't keep anything in memory.
If that doesn't help, then one of your apps is causing issues, start investigating.
Also ,you should remove CCleaner and also any task killing app. They cause issues and slow downs.
Best of luck!
Chris.
ehm, try this....
dismount SDcard, maybe its broken, reflash ROM, with full wipe, data, cache, system.
only flash rom and gapps, and try it without SDcard.

How to investigate which app is consuming a lot of CPU and RAM?
Which custom kernel is the best?
Which kernel would you suggest?
Thannks for the reply.

Pie RAM management issue

So I recently updated my Note 9 to Pie (May update), honestly I am satisfied with the update, phone feels smooth, lots of customizations with good lock, battery life is about the same as in Oreo.
The only problem that's bothering me is RAM management, apps don't stay open in background as they used to on Oreo even if I always have 2GB of free RAM at least. I have disabled all sorts of power saving features, tried a magisk module for better RAM management but it's still bad.
Is there any solution for better RAM management? Root or non-root?
Thanks.

since updating from v8 to v9 is not a proper clean start. u might want to contemplate wiping data and cache in recovery mode and start fresh from v9 instead .
shouldn't be different but you might also consider flashing latest firmware again ontop( just dont forget to wipe data first then flash.)
its always best to start fresh than to use a phone that go updated and still has all the clutter from previous version.

I started fresh with Pie, had everything wiped and started from 0. I noticed that some other users on reddit had the same issue, but haven't came across a solution yet.

I have the Exynos variant N960F, I'm on Pie May update and I am rooted with Magisk.
I don't have many apps in the background as I use Greenify to hibernate apps that I don't want to be running in background, as I said I usually have around 2GB of free RAM most of the time.
Now when I was on Oreo, I used to have for instance PS App open in background (meaning I exit with the back button not home button) and a few hours laters or even after opening lots of apps later, when I go back to that app, it doesn't have to reload. Now this is not the case with Pie, if I do the same, I would have to reload it, it's not that it takes time to reload but it's just annoying to have lots of free RAM yet you have to reload apps every hour or so.

Yes I do, and none of the apps that I want to be running in background are Greenified of course. In fact I have the same apps + settings that I used to have on Oreo as I restored them fully after rooting, the only thing that's different is the updated OS.

Sure, I'll give it a go and see what happens. Thanks.
I have the same problem too, recent apps are closed by itself no matter what battery optimization you do for the apps that you don't want to close.
I just noticed every time it happens it just keeps the last 5 apps used opened and close the old ones.
You can also try to go to device care and then battery then on the upper right hand side the three dots then settings, there turn off put unused apps to sleep. Maybe this can help you.
That dont work mate ,there is no fix trust me.pie closes your recent apps list over night regardless of what setting you use.ive given up trying to keep my favourite apps in the recent apps menu.i just hope Samsung fixes it .but nobody other than me and a few others really want it fixed.most people dont care that all there apps get closed over night apart from 3 or 4 that stay.its terrible
