TMobile? - HTC First

Anyone know if I can pop a Tmobile sim in the First or is it locked?

I'm guessing this was either answered and I just havent found where, or no one knows?

Doesn't come unlocked
You can only get it from AT&T right now, and they'll unlock it if you ask but there might be a timer on that - you may have to wait a month or something. Then you get the unlock code, go through the HTCdev process and you're good (I think).
I'm not sure about the bands, though, whether you'll be able to get 3G/4G...

I can confirm that this phone works on T-Mobile. I used the SIM Unlock method here http://androidfannetwork.com/2013/05/13/free-sim-unlock-for-the-htc-first-facebook-phone/
I bought a pre-paid sim and am using it right now. Voice/SMS/MMS/data work. However, the data is super slow (Down: 194kbps Up:115kbps)
However, I am not able to test LTE as I don't live in an LTE area. Also, the T-Mobile rep on the phone told me that because my phone wasn't a T-Mobile phone, I couldn't get LTE.
Is this true?
RIght now I see full bars and an E over them.

I got the phone for my girlfriend and she has LTE connectivity on T-Mobile.

Yes, there is LTE connectivity. I was just in a non TMobile LTE area. I took a cross country trip and was able to connect to TMobile LTE in select markets.

[Q] Need Help with ATT LTE apn settings!

So I recently bought a new Galaxy Note 3 T-mobile variant on craigslist to use on my AT&T plan. The phone is perfect, I love it! The only problem is that I can't seem to connect to LTE after I unlocked it. I have already rooted the phone using CF Auto-root, and then I turned to unlocking it. I heard that the "Region Lock Away" app by chainfire removed the region lock as well as unlocked the sim, as long as you reboot later. So thats what I tried first rather then pay for an unlock code.
Now when I bought the Note 3, it didn't include the sim card from T-mobile. So I did the whole process of rooting and unlocking under my real att sim card that I was using with my Nokia lumia 920 (I know it was time to upgrade). I went to an ATT retail store, and I ended up talking to a service rep and explained that I wanted to use my Galaxy note 3 on their network, and that I would be unlocking it when I got home. She convinced me to give them the IMEI number on the back of the phone to "provision the network to my phone".
Well after the Region Lock Away app did it's thing, I no longer had the sim card ask for an unlock code and I was able to text and make calls. So I figure that I was fully unlocked. But my data wasn't working, so after a bit of research here at XDA I noticed that I needed to change my apn settings. So i used these as suggested by another post:
NAME: ATT Phone
APN: phone
MMSC: http[colon]//mmsc.mobile.att[dot]net <-- XDA thinks I am posting a url!
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att[dot]net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
After setting these, and then using them, I can't find any data connection at all. Can anyone shed some insight as to what may be the problem?
BTW: the legacy wap.cingular apn settings are working for me but I only get about 2 Mb/s max. Which is not what I want from an LTE phone obviously.
The only thing I noticed you did not mention is "authentication type", which needs to be manually set to None. I come to the note 3 from an AT&T galaxy s4. I was using a t-mobile custom rom on it the whole time, every time I reset the ROM I had to manually add APN settings, authentication type "none" always had to be selected along with the rest of the entries. If you don't manually set this it will read "not set".

Settings are right as I compared them with my phone. Only thing I can think of is the rep didn't configure your account right and LTE is not enabled. You can log onto your att.com and check to see if your sim has LTE activated. You would see something like DataPro 3GB for Smartphone 4G LTE or whatever amount of data checked on your line. If not your LTE is not active it won't work no matter what APN settings you use.
Edit; this is what authentication type should read instead of default "not set".

Thanks for the replies!! Well I went in to the att store, and spoke with the same person who switched my IMEI number into the system. Looks like two things happened, first my data plan was switched from a 3GB LTE data to a media plan which was causing me to recieve text messages complaining about my data usage and stating $200 charges. To remedy this we had to make a call to the dreaded at&t customer service center where my Rep. was put on hold for about 30 min (ridiculous...) and also the charges were removed. I also had her switch the IMEI to the Galaxy S3 that I previously used before I got the sudden death ****. So after all that, my data has finally connected and im getting about 7MB down which is still only HSPA+. So the only thing I have left to try is maybe some other APN settings (suggestions here????) or maybe try a new simcard and use the unlock code I have.

Searching for the AT&T APN setting led me to this thread.
After setting all the APN settings as others, I was still getting pretty slow connection speed.
Then, I switched the Bearer to "LTE" type and voila! I started getting the full LTE speed!

You can only do this if you know your in a LTE supported area otherwise you will not get any data if your in a 4g or H+ area with the bearer set to LTE only.

I find that no matter what settings I use on the APN (working ones, I mean), if I have Wifi on, I lose LTE. As soon as I disable Wifi, even if I don't move the phone, LTE comes back. Not that it matters, I just like seeing that little 4G LTE icon.
My guess is that your WiFi is set to take priority over mobile data. There might be a setting to change this though. For example in the WiFi settings there is a toggle that allows your phone to automatically switch between WiFi and mobile data, to have a seamless browsing experience.
I'm on lollipop running the Echoe ROM on my sm-n900t and I use the download booster to boost my speeds by using both together.

[Q] Verizon LG G2 GSM Support

Hello All,
I have been thinking about traveling to Japan this coming year; I have looked at Verizon's International plan, and it seems like they are very pricey.
I have heard that the VS980 has GSM support, with no LTE, which is fine. I have looked into the h20 network, as they have exceptional prices for their international plan.
I have googled it and have gotten mixed answers, so I came here. I have a h20 sim card, and it pulls the APNs, but does not get any service. Is it that I am using a custom rom?
Thanks for the help in advance!

Please someone answer this. I'm in a similar boat.
I'm on the stock verizon ROM. I have a Piranha mobile sim card. I am testing the setup in the US to verify it works. It connects to the T-mobile/Piranha voice and sms network, but data is not working.
Their setup instructions call for setting the apn to openroamer.com, but no mention on the mnc or the mcc values. If I just set the apn to openroamer.com I'm able to save and select it, but as soon as I change the mnc or mcc values to t-mobile the apn disappears after I save. Do I need to set the mnc and mcc values to something specific? I tried to track down exactly what they do, with no luck.
I see mention in another thread that Verizon locks the phones to be unable to connect to other US domestic networks. They also mention that once I'm overseas I'll be fine. I'm skeptical.
I was thinking of going to the t-mobile store to see if I could borrow a sim card to confirm it's a firmware issue. I would rather not root at this point. Any other courses of action?
Thanks for shedding any light.

It turns out to be a activation error for me, after I correctly activated the sim, it worked! (silly me!)
For your problem, I looked on your carriers website/ help websites and there are no values except the APN.
You might need a data plan active. I would try using other carriers, because for me the h20 sim worked with data.
Verizon has no control over what network you go on either, FCC has a couple laws that prevent from Verizon doing that except exclude the hardware needed to connect to other networks.
Sorry I could not help.
I popped my Aio Wireless (AT&T) SIM from my Nexus 4 into my G2 and after a little APN tweaking I had HSPA+ working with no issues. It is my understanding if you have AT&T Band 4 LTE (limited markets) and the correct service providor, it will even connect 4G/LTE on AT&T networks. I swapped my Verizon SIM back in and removed the APN's and all was well on Verizon again. I am stock (KitKat) and rooted with only a few few Xposed modules installed, no custom ROM.
It sounds like, from reading the posts above, the Verizon LG-G2 IS a World Phone and should function straight on from stock on a UK provider like Three just by purchasing a sim and plugging it in then configuring the APN settings !
The problem is that when my Susan went just this morning to a Three store in London, the guy there told her that her Verizon LG-G2 was LOCKED to Verizon network only, and that she would have to do something like obtain an unlock code because the phone would not work on any other provider until she did that.
Verizon's International folks told us earlier that the phone would work fine, given GSM frequency issue restrictions, overseas and there was no need for any UnLock proceedure or code.
Does she just need to find a competent tech at a different Three store ?
Or is she going to be unable to play Ingress the whole two weeks she is over there in England and Scotland ?
Update...both Three and Vodaphone folks in London have now told her that the Verizon LG-G2 is carrier locked and cannot be used without Verizon unlocking it on any other network. So, Verizon was wrong and she is limited to WiFi only for the next two weeks ?

It is very odd. We tried it on a T-Mobile sim over here before she left, I am pretty sure, and it just worked. Still, over in London Three & Vodaphone say it is locked and useless on their networks and their sims don't work.
Maybe it is subsidy-locked ?
Maybe they just didn't set the APN and data settings right at the stores ?

[q]Get LTE on TMobile

I have an unlocked Att Active and I was curious if there is a method for enabling lte on tmobiles network. More specifically metropcs but I believe either way should work the same. any insight is appreciated.
If you are on 4.2.2 stock MF# you can follow the guide here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441211, but if you updated to 4.3 official ML2 then I'm not sure if it will work. I know it works because I got my phone to use LTE on Tmo via this method but I have yet to update to 4.3 because I don't know if I'll lose LTE capabilities.
On my second Active now and I had LTE on the first one last year for only a few hours then it just never ever worked again. Here's what I'd suggest:
- make sure you have a brand new T-Mobile or MetroPCS SIM card as older ones may not be able to access the newer network bands that T-Mobile and MetroPCS are using (since T-Mobile owns MetroPCS now), get your info transferred over to a new SIM card and work with that first off
- use the *#*#4636#*#* code to get the phone info menu, then make sure it's set for LTE/GSM auto (PRL) (and also hit the Menu key and make sure the Data connection is enabled)
- under Settings - More networks - Mobile networks - Access Point Names add the following as a new APN if you don't get it showing up by default with the new SIM if you do get a new one - on my second Active now and a brand new T-Mobile SIM only a week old the only APN that shows is the older epc.tmobile.com one (note the name I just typed is accurate, it doesn't use the hyphen):
Code:
Name : T-Mobile LTE
APN: fast.tmobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN Type: default,supl,admin,dun,mms
And then of course actually select that APN for use with LTE - once you do those steps the LTE should kick in almost immediately if you're in an area where T-Mobile or MetroPCS actually have honest to goodness LTE service. If they don't (meaning it hasn't been refarmed or it just doesn't have it period) then the phone will fall back to HSPA/HSPA+ mode as needed (because you have it set for LTE/GSM auto (PRL) operation).
So far since I got this second Active it's working great and I've had no issues at all with LTE speeds around 30-35Mbps in testing and HSPA+ speeds around 28-32Mbps which is damned fast enough for me.
I still keep the phone in EDGE mode most of the time, go figure.
Hope this helps...
I unlocked mine with unlock code. Lte works out of the box. It is the same with note 2. A lot people talking about enable tmo bands and this is not necessary...at least for me here in PR.

[Q] Sony D5803 LTE Not Working with T-Mobile

So, I bought the Z3C D5803 online (amazon) a while ago in the US. Unlocked, international version.
I don't get any LTE signal, although I have all bands necessary for T-Mobile LTE, except band 12. But this is no reason for it not to work. I only get 3G/H/H+. The APN settings are all OK, according to the T-Mobile tech support.
Since it's a corporate SIM, I can't handle things directly. The service (and SIM) HAS a LTE data plan, since it was being used in a different phone, provided by T-Mobile, and I had 4G. An IT employee called them and they told him that my phone is compatible, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it will wotk with T-Mobile (wtf does that even mean?). Like, my phone has all the bands necessary, but they could be closed (is that even possible?).
What I think is happening is that the SIM was registered with the previous phone's IMEI, and since my new phone has a different IMEI, T-Mobile is blocking LTE connection. Or my xperia IMEI is not registered as a LTE phone.
This is definitely not a hardware problem.
One thing worth mentioning. Before using this phone in the US, I traveled to Brazil and used my SIM card from there. LTE worked flawlessly, athough it uses different bands. The APN settings updated automatically.
So, what gives?

Well, that is unfortunate. I don't belive that is possible for your D5803 to work while mine doesn't, which was what the employee from T-Mobile tried to say. I believe it's a carrier issue with the SIM card/ IMEI.

I don't think so. I think that the problem is with the SIM card or something to do about it being registered to the phone previously being used.
So it happens that I have another T-Mobile SIM card (a pre paid one, which is my personal number)and I tried it on my phone. To my amusement and frustration, I got LTE signal. So, what could T-Mobile be doing with my work line that I'm not getting LTE?
I believe it's a carrier issue with the SIM card
I had the same problem when I first got my Nexus 5 a while back. It turns out all I needed was a new SIM card, so that is most likely the culprit. It sucks that you'll have to jump through hoops to get a new SIM though.

No dice.
I think it's a problem with the SIM card. Now, what I don't know is:
If the problem is with the SIM card only
If the problem is with the SIM card and IMEI (4G registered to work only with the previous T-Mobile phone)

T-mobile US doesn't register the IMEI to the SIM, so I doubt it's that. Could be a defective SIM I suppose, or maybe LTE isn't enabled on the phone for some reason. First thing I'd do is go to a store and have them switch out the SIM for a new one.

LTE is enabled, and when I switch the current SIM for the other pre-paid I have from T-Mobile, I get LTE signal. So, maybe that indicates without a doubt that the problem is the SIM card?
It's really likely then that it's the SIM since the other one works. Go to a T-mobile store and they'll probably give you another one for free since that one isn't working. LTE isn't something T-mobile charges more for, so you should get it if the network is available.

No AT&T SIM

Has anyone in the US bought this phone? AT&T can't activate because they don't have the right (size I guess) SIM for this phone thus couldn't activate.
Anyone have this same issue?

That's BS. I slapped my nano SIM into my US XZ1C with no problems. The phone then asked to search online for the APN information. It downloaded it all with zero effort on my part and everything worked 100%. I've had this SIM card since at least the Z3 time. Go to another store, have them replace whatever SIM you have now with a nano SIM, go home and install it on your phone. Don't give them any explanation for anything. You need to replace your SIM with a nano SIM and that's it. You'll get signal automatically, but not data. Just Google AT&T APN settings and enter them if your phone doesn't offer to download them during the initial setup. I get LTE all over town, although it shows the 4G icon instead. I can send/receive SMS, MMS, and calls normally.

Ok I'll do that. I'm moving from vzn to att and was trying to set up account over the phone. The rep first told me it was a 2G only phone and they don't support that. Then after I told him that his own website said the IMEI number was supported he came back with the SIM statement. I even said "it's just a nano SIM" what's special... Anyway useless to argue after some point. I'll just go to the store tomorrow.

have you looked at the APNs? this is most likely the issue.
this phone technically supports all ATT LTE bands.
you may also have to set your "Preferred Network type" to LTE preferred
I am still using my old AT&T SIM from years ago when it was originally a Micro SIM. Just carefully cut the SIM down to the appropriate size and it works fine. I have the UK version and have no issues so far.
As for the H+ only, it may be due to the IMEI not being recognized on the network carrier. I haven't experienced this issue, but from what I've read online, you can ask the AT&T rep to register your SIM using a phone's IMEI that is registered with AT&T. Not sure how that works, but it's what I've read on other forums from people with the same issue.
I've used APN settings on web and confirmed the SIM is compatible but still not getting LATE speed. Open signal testing in various locations at best are 5-6Mbps.

the only band i know of that has been in question is band 12. i think most ATT LTE takes place on band 17, which runs on almost the same frequency as band 12. this is likely not your issue, but i can dig a bit deeper. this mostly affects people using Tmobile, like myself.
i'm guessing you have one of the international variants?

How would I tell? I double checked my order and confirmed it's "supposed" to be a US version and I don't have a fingerprint security option.
I doubt the resolution will be good enough to read, if not follow that link and apply filter Texas and Brazos country. It is a list of frequencies in my region. I don't know if it's of any real value or not just searching.
I really appreciate your help!
One last thing... My phone hasn't downloaded any at&t bloatware. Not even the myATT app. I don't know if that adds any clues

I can send/receive SMS, MMS, and calls normally.

sorry to bother, would you mind sharing the APN settings you have?
also, any other network settings that might affect connectivity? our friend in texas needs some help getting his LTE going.
ALSO... my XZ1C shows LTE when connected to it. are you positive you are operating on LTE? is there a chance you are connected to it but not using it? network speeds?
thanks in advance!
Just left AT&T again and no better.
There are two APN settings that are on my phone. (1.) ATT Nextgenphone
(2.) ATT HSPA+ ***this was renamed from simply ATT by the guy messing with my phone. Originally it was just ATT***
APN Settings
1. These APN settings result in no data connection what-so-ever
Name: ATT Nextgenphone
APN: nexgenphone
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMSPort: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: not set
APN Type: default,admin,mms,supl,hipri,internet
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO type: none
2. This gets data (H) but at about 4 Gbps. Sometimes it bumps up to (H+) but never long enough to test speed.
Name: ATT HSPA+
APN: phone
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMSPort: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: not set
APN Type: default,supl,mms,hipri
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO type: none
Somewhere on the AT&T website there was detail referencing the 9th and 10th digit of the SIM being certain numbers. Whatever it was my SIM is compatible.
Looking for the specific langauge I happened back to this site and now I'm worried I've got no hope. Here is the link but I've attached a screenshot of the concerning statement.
https://apn.gishan.net/settings/1887_4_att_apn_settings_for_sony_xperia_xz1.php
Can anyone give an opinion on any of this? Thanks for all your help. I hope it prevents someone else from having the same problem.
