about xperia z and lag? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

whssssup!!!
i see friends with galaxy 3 the gui and the touch so smooth
why our phone is not smooth but always little laggy?
is it the rom?
or the gui?

Nearly every phone I have had is laggy at the start. Give it a few updates and it should iron most of it out.
It also depends what you are comparing on eeach device, what is running in the background and how demanding the widgets are on the home screens.

After over 2 months with the phone.... what lag ? Seriously, what lag ? And it's not a sarcasm or anything, I have honestly never noticed any lags on my phone - I am using just one widget and less than 10 icons though

Switching trough screens, launching apps - it's all more less OK.. But I have terrible (and I mean TERRIBLE) lag in keyboard.. It is soooo annoying !!! Anyone else have similar problem and do you guys have any solution for that ?
Thanks

With the keyboard I only get lag when typing a reply in forums. But other than that I don't get lag.

No lag here. This is a case of what the user has running on his phone. What background apps is running.

The only lag i get is when switching between home screen albeit very minor thou and not enough to be annoying. Thou, i have like 5 pages filled with widgets and apps folders

I never get lag on the homescreen. I only get lag on some apps not optimized for the xperia z

first thx all for replay
second:i see that not all the people know what is lag,i show to my friend today the features with lag and he told me its not lag.
strang....
anyway for those who got lag i try the doom kernel with 1836 max and 384 min with govenor interactive and its way better
the batt life suck but i can handle that .

Coming from a S3 and S3 4G I can say this phone is definitely faster.. Less lag..
It's your background processes I think.

what backup process?when i press to see what in my process the square down the phone nothing running everything cleaned

Not backup - background process..
Same story here.. Everything is closed but my keyboard is unbelievably slow.. I am Samsung user (Galaxy S, S2, S3, Note2) and this is my first Sony device.. I never had any problems like this on Samsung.. I really want to like this phone but I don't understand why such lag..
Battery life is also bad (specially for me after Note 2) but I can live with that.. But having phone which I paid 600 eur and having to ask people to write me on my other number (on iPhone) so I could normally type on Viber and others..Just bad..
PS.
I don't have too much apps installed.. Everything is on stock.. I just rooted phone and that's all..

Coming from a galaxy s 3 32gig, Xperia Z is way faster, has not had one random reboot or freeze in 4 weeks and has absolutely no lag... homescreen is also smooth.
13-14 hrs between charges with always 4-4.5hrs screen on time used, quite heavy daily use.
The ONLY lag I ever see is opening camera for the first time. A known issue but I can live with waiting 2 - 3 seconds for that.
UK 434 stock, rooted in Australia.

I am assure Xperia Z is much smoother than S III as I am S III owner previously. Unless your friends S III is using CM, AOKP, AOSP ROM, then different talk, most phone run in CM, AOKP and AOSP is much smoother than stock ROM.
Some user report keyboard lag? I never had this issue at all.
I am picky on smooth animation, so I know what is lag. I cannot said Xperia Z extremely smooth, but it is far better than S III, that one is confirm.
The only slow is when opening Camera, this is slow when open, not lagging issue.
---------- Post added at 02:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:23 PM ----------
By the way, I just notice a small change at animation part can actually make the phone much more smoother in animation.

Go to Settings - Developer options.
Change the default value of Window animation scale & Animator duration scale both from 1x to .5x
Don't change Transition animation scale to .5x as this will make the animation too fast.
I am picky on animation, so I notice it. With above setting it actually faster a bit and shorten the animation duration, which will reduce noticeable by my picky eye notice on the not enough smooth animation when opening apps, especially opening the Phone from main page and also when pressing the home button to return to home from your last page at main launcher.

I only notice lag when calling from "call log". it seems to take forever from when I click on the contact to start dialing??

Yesterday, I happen to use my friend's Xperia Z and had such a problem with lagging of home screen. And the apps page was slow and really I am not impressed with Xperia Z at all. My friend is willing to sell it as he paid so much money here in Israel and got such a phone whereas his iPhone 4 even has no any problems. I do not know what to say to him. I downloaded Nova launcher but it helped a little bit, still laggy.
p.s. I did cleaned up everything and no synchronization is on, nothing running in background ans so... I checked everything and it is strange...I do not like Sony now anymore. I insisted my friend to buy Sony but now he is so unsatisfied that I feel bad and cannot do anything about it. he put so much money that could buy new iPhone 5 without lagging and no problems.

If you updated your phone Xperia Z to Android 4.2.2 than you are wrong with saying that it much smoother than S III. No way. I like Sense 5 UI generally and it is fastest and not laggy at all. But I can tell that TouchWiz is way better than Sony's UI.

[Q] So.. Is the Galaxy Note slower and more laggy than GS II?

Hi dear,
I just read some posts that said Galaxy Note has some lags when scrolling and opening some apps..
So I want to ask the owners of GNote, do you really feel it's slower and more laggy than GS II?
If it's because of the resolution of the screen, would it be fixed in the future with ICS?
I need answers today as I was almost gonna get Note tomorrow morning but these posts make me confused...
It has better spec (actually almost identical to GS II) but doesn't feel good when scrolling? That sucks! As a owner of iPhone 4, I do not like that lag feeling..
If you have any second thoughts, just wait a while. Don't go buying like crazy.
But, is a small lag (that will probably be fixed at a later date) a real deal breaker? Coming from the Apple platform i think you will be blown away by the device.

Cool man.
I got it. It's not a real deal breaker, of course.
I'm going to get it due to its beautiful display.
Not sure where you get these rumours from! I have both and I have no lag at all. If anything it feels quicker then the SII but its hard to tell because both are lightning fast.
What it is laggy in the phone?
All of them or the scroll in touchwiz? If its all of them I think that will not be solution.

Really?
I just read it today in one thread....
And some owners said when they scroll the screen on home screen it's kinda more laggy than sgs II...
By the way, how is the text on browser?
Is it crisp and clear which can read without zooming in?
Can it be comparable to iPhone 4 screen?
Please let me know about it before I purchase tomorrow!

Oh thank you very much
Could you please upload the original capture photo please though?
I'd like to see!
Just now I went into the Dubai mall Samsung store and played around with the 4 galaxy note units on display for an hour. I was gutted to see how laggy they all were. Web browsing (once page was fully loaded) and gallery app were simply not as responsive as the SG2 next to them. Also the pentile screen as much as I hate saying it but it simply is not as crisp. The difference is visible
My experience is very different to some of the comments here
I'm so disappointed - the form factor is great, it really is thin and light. I thought this would be my next device.

I was worrying about the pentile screen on galaxy note but some said it wouldn't be a problem...

But, although it's not as responsive as sgs II, does it have any lags?

And the pic you upload is honestly almost invisible.... Hm...
What about battery life?
Dont have the phone yet, but i ask people who have SGSII and comparing that to note.
Is ur SGSII on the stock firmware. Most of the minor bugs have been cleaned out and phone has been made super responsive and fast thanks to XDA.
Even the latest firmware from samsung seems to fix the earlier glitches.
So if GNote feels a little lagging, wont be a surprise to me.
Give it some time.
I had Samsung Galaxy S2 and now I have Samsung Galaxy Note and it is smooth like a charm
but only in touch wizz launcher. All others launchers (GO-L, L-PRO, ADW-L) are a bit laggy, probably not optimized for such resolution. But anyway I love the phone and I am glad that I sold SGS2. The screen is just amazing.
An U really have to be an idiot to chose iCrap over this beauty.

I just got it this morning!!
I was so suprised by the size of Galaxy Note!
Its not a typical size phone lol
And when I compared with gs II, scrolling was similar but speed was faster.
I mean when both are on wifi, webloading and youtube was faster on Note.
But I feel it's a bit laggy especially on browser..
And usage of ram is too much.. almost 700 mb after playing 3 hours.

[Q] Galaxy Note: The amount of its laggyness?

Hello Fellow Members,
Okay I have been reading a lot of complaints about the Note being laggy and frankly even I came across a couple of Galaxy Notes at two different malls/stores on display and they both lagged like anything. Although the lag was for just a couple of seconds but it was very frustrating. I noticed the lag throughout in the OS, right from swiping the home screens to scrolling in the settings or scrolling the browsing or while opening the apps. (Any app). And it became even more frustrating to see a previous model (Galaxy s2) working as smooth as melting butter. I operated them side by side and, man the difference was noticeable, seriously NOTICEABLE. I was soooooooooo disappointed. I had the cash with me but I was just not willing to believe, such a high spec’d phone would lag . And eventually I came from the store without purchasing one .
I have read on XDA forums also where many G-Note users have complained about their experiences of Galaxy Note being laggy. Hence, I would “request” you all to please make short videos of your galaxy Notes, upload on youtube and share the link with us here, so that someone who wants to buy a NOTE would see the amount of laggyness of the phone and then decide, whether this lag is acceptable or inacceptable for him/them. Please show the scrolling on contacts, S-pen notes, swiping between home screens, scrolling the browser etc.
Please guys, come forward and do so, as I youtubed a lot but couldn’t find videos showing the laggyness of Note. All videos are filled with how smooth and fast the NOTE is. And seeing that, I went to purchase one but….
P.S: Rooting isn’t an option for me as this will void the warranty and I don’t want to void my warranty. Hence no rooting
Also, people say that ICS will solve the issue. I have seen on other phones that initially it does make the device faster but with daily usage, it becomes same as it used to be with the previous version of OS.
Rooting will void your warranty but but if done in correct way you can unroot and get it back.
Older firmware were slow and laggy but LC1 and LC2 are smooth.
Have you tried V6 SuperCharger or ThunderBolt scripts before ? You'll need root though.
These littile thing inject steroids in your phone.
Wait wait wait wait.
You have used such difficult Jargons of Andriod world that I am just not able to catch you up .
Okay, as you have mentioned, V6 SuperCharger or ThunderBolt scripts will require Rooting my device (although I have no idea what are V6 SuperCharger or ThunderBolt scripts), but tell me these LC1 and LC2 are firmware updates, right? And they can be updated "without" rooting the device. Isn't it?
And this update will make G-Note blazing fast, like s2?
Guys, please respond and help.

Dont compare Note and S2. The same processor and same GPU in S2 powers a smaller screen with less pixels and less DPI. Here in Note you have the same processor and GPU power a huge HD screen with the best DPI in business. Also all the apps are built on hdpi resolution while the note is xhdpi resolution so the apps and launchers tend to get laggy. Also there is no hardware acceleration supported in much apps. I am using ICS Stunner and using it on 240 dpi which is hdpi resolution and its silk smooth. Butter!
And i dont have time to make videos. So if you can then take my word. If not then each one to his own
Cheers!! Enjoy your Note!!
You don't need to be rooted to update firmware.
Use pc odin or built-in OTA (Over The Air - Phone updates itself using 3G/WiFi) update feature.
update to the latest stock firmware released in 2012.....should b much smoother. But we're all waiting for ics which should be out very soon.
advice: go bak to the shop......remove all widgets on homescreen and/or change wallpaper to static nd try. I have noticed that some live wallpapers and widgets cause lagginess. I usually remove everythng from the homescreen and start adding them 1 by 1 and checkng.....one widget sometimes is the culprit.
Ics should smooth everythng as some have reported.
Owned a Note and 7.7
7.7 slightly slower than Nexus, Note is laggy, esp when not turned off for days.

I am not saying it should run games which require excellent acceleration or requires immense power from GPU, as I am not into heavy mobile games. All I require is butter smooth execution of day-to-day usage. Be it scrolling contact, scrolling web page, swiping through 10 application screens or swiping 7 home screens.

Your response is somewhat relieving I must tell you. But the comment under your post is disturbing . I mean I want a butter smooth tock ROM device and after paying $607 for G-Note, I don’t want to regret and speed it a “very” essential part of my checklist of a smart phone.

Have you ever tried updating its firmware and stuff to make it faster? (as mentioned above in this post) If you have and still it lags, then that’s a concern for me (and perhaps for your and for many others too who are thinking of owning one)

I never specifically told about games. To have everything buttery smooth u require hardware acceleration which gpu provides in the apps browser and launchers. So gpu is not just for games. Now you got why i told you all that above. To have everything running smooth on such big screen and resolution u require hardware acceleration. Ever noticed lag in all third party launchers? Its becoz they don't have hardware acceleration. The stock TW launcher is partially hw accelerated so still runs somewhat smooth.
The original dpi of Note is 321
BOOMED from my BOMBASTIC NOTE
Tbh you can't really blame the note for being a tad laggy since it is basically a computer and all computers ( even the best) will come across a type of lag within its lifetime.

Well then that sucks
here is a tip to the op.. You will find 99% of all problems you look for.. If you didnt look, you would not know there are problems.
The key to happiness in life is being happy with what you have and setting your expectations ot a reasonable level..
If you dont need the large screen, go buy something else. If you do need the large screen, then you have no choice but the note..
so either relax and enjoy your note or be paranoid about this and every other device on the planet, and buy every new device as it comes out and drive yourself into a frenzy of despair about this problem, that problem, this issue that issue until you realise all this agony and money has not fixed a single thing in your life, you are stressed, depressed and you end up a bankrupt nuerotic..

This device has NOTHING bad in it.. Just the LAG LAG LAG!
Nice post though! Loved it.
I am using stock GB and I have almost no lag. Maybe you should make a video and show us what lag you are talking about.
I am using stock rom (gingerbread) at the moment and experience none of the lag you refer to. I also tried some of the ics roms and also no lag.
The only time my phone 'hesitates' is sometimes when I unlock it as it switches from widget locker to lock screen. Now as it is a 3rd party app doing it, I can hardly blame the note. I love my note and even got rid of my galaxy nexus and asus tf101 when i got the note.

Have you ever tried updating its firmware and stuff to make it faster? (as mentioned above in this post) If you have and still it lags, then that’s a concern for me (and perhaps for your and for many others too who are thinking of owning one)

It's on the latest firmware available in my country (Malaysia)
All I can think is, Gingerbread is just far inferior to ICS or Honeycomb. Nokia Lumia is a lot faster too (hope that word is not banned here)
Then again, some items images/video captured in 7.7 is only 3.2mp vs 8mp.

Problems on XPeria Z ! Disapointed!!

Hi All
I've bought the Sony Xperia Z since now 2 days and I'm a little disapointed..
Ok the phone is beautiful, the screen too but there is really bad bad point for people who come from an Iphone 5. Everybody said that this phone is fluid and better than a Galaxy Tab but after 2 days of use , it seem that it's really not the case!!. Even with a good processor quad core , the speed is not even better than the galaxy Tab 2. Even my girlfriend who are on an Iphone 4S said that the Sony XZ is not fluid as the iphone and she knows nothing about phones.
When I'm unlocking my phone, I always have a lag between moving between desktop. After 1 days I've installed Nova Launcher, It was a little more fluid but not the best ! Sorry but when I see the caracteristics of the phone , it's a monster but with Android , it's slow ! SLOW SLOW!!
I'm the only one who see this??? Even with a monster phone Android don't work well! I'm even hesitate the add more than 2 widgets....
The Second point is the webbrowsing... It's horrible, I've try Firefox, Chrome and dolphin and really , it's not fluid at all, when you scrolling in web pages it's slow to show pages , pictures etc...
The Third point is the temperature... it grow to 38° when I use it for more than 20 mins....
So the Xperia Is a good phone but theses point disapoint me a lot.. I was thinking that with a monster last generation phone, it's going to be fluid and I see that's not the case..
Does somebody can help me maybe??

Just wait a few days for the 4.2.2 update and stop crying :silly:
maybe your device is defect?
i'm using the z for nearly 3 weeks now, haven't had a single problem.
phone is fast, ui is smooth and fluid, no lags. and i have plenty of widgets. temperature isn't hot.
compared it to a friends iphone 5 - no lags, not less fluid or smooth.
unlock bootloader, root, remove junk system file, use cook rom, custom kernel i think you will feel better
Wait for a stable CM10.1 build or 4.2.2
I also dont know what to do with the XZ. I have it for 3 days now, but i am a little dissapointed about the screen and the connectors are very annoying. Theres also a lot of dust. I think i will switch to Galaxy s 4 or htc one!

I had quite a bit of lag on mine also. I tried numerous Launchers until I found one that ran without hitch. Try Apex Launcher. Takes a while to set up and get right, but now mine is running absolutely smooth as silk. Ill try the stock launcher again once the new Android update hits. But agreed, out the box, the phone isnt smooth or quick to use at all.

i cannot see any of these problem in my phone
iPhone is for stupid people (girls/boys who don care of developing)
it s android if u have problem with this ROM u can root and change it
change kernel
change firmware
iPhone 5 is dual-core, 1.2 GHz, 1gm ram, 4inch (not hd!)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Xperia Z is QUADcore, 1.5 GHz, 2GB RAM, 5inch, FULL HD
so it normal for temperature to increase But phone will work properly in high temp. :good:
(iphone users cannot imagine this )

Use a good launcher, and disable/uninstall some of the apps that you don't use. This phone is quick, much smoother compared to any iPhone i've used.

+10, and much more customisable
The phone can lag a little in settings menu and with Sony launcher but aside from that it settles down once you've had it a while. I can't explain why.
I use dolphin browser as the stock browser and chrome are a little laggy. Dolphins not perfect but right now it's faster and has much less lag.
Non I'm root but I need to unlock bootloader to be able to install Custom Rom And I don't want to loose my warranty... XZ seems to have so much problems don't want to loose my money

Why is CM10 / CM10.1 so slow?

I really like CM but it's really, really slow, especially when Wi-Fi is on. It hangs a lot.
My question is: Is this because it needs more work or I shouldn't ever expect it to get much faster because of physical limitations? I'm only asking because CM10 received a lot of work and it still didn't get faster, and then it switched to CM10.1. It's been almost a year without a working GPS and I don't know if it's the software or the device that's the problem.
CyanogenMod is fast and smooth if you know how to use it correctly and not spam downloading apps which eats up all your RAM.In the performance settings,Turn some options on/off could make all the difference between laggy and unlaggy.I have used CyanogenMod for the past 6 months and its getting better nowadays.Recently,They implemented a fix to vsync on our device and it made the experience a bit smoother. Its also partly due to our hardware limitations.1Ghz Single Core and 512mb is just no longer enough to keep up with the other devices coming out every month. So if you want a smooth experience,You could sell the OB and maybe purchase a second hand with better specs? As for GPS,some members here has found a fix,So you could try looking for it.

It seems smooth as long as Wi-Fi is not running. Not very smooth, but usable. As soon as I turn-on Wi-Fi it becomes almost unusable, really slow, a lot of crashes from some apps.
I don't have a lot of apps, and I mostly keep sync off. If I turn sync on, then I'm just basically locking my phone out of use, it becomes really slow.

hi. i see many here who have bought this gorgeous tablet. im in the planning of buying it. i honestly dont want the exynos version cause of my past experience with this chipset being hot and no so stable. and sadly its the only one available here.
im TOO much convinced to get iPad Air 2 because it wipes the floor with these 2 tablets. but i really dont like Apple at all. so much so, i HATE apple! but the S-Lag is pushing me more towards Apple more than ever before... lag on a 2014 Flagship tablet is PLAIN UNACCEPTABLE!
anyways, lets come to the point. WHATS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH THIS TABLET? whats the best thing about it? what did u find so-so in this tablet? and what is the worst thing according to YOU in your tablet? pls mention ur model (10.5 or 8.4 and also share the chipset, Snapdragon 800 or Exynos 5420 and also Wi-Fi only or Lte one)
(its only gonna take 3 mins to type and reply to this thread, so pls share ur experience. might be very helpful for some!)

I have zero lag with my Exynos Galaxy Tab S 10.5 WiFi running stock NK1 firmware and debloated and all graphic intensive games play smooth and it multitasks faster then my Note 4. The screen is in a league of its own and my jaw drops every time I look at it. Battery life is awesome at around 8-9 screen on hours and tablet runs cool to the touch at all times and it scores around 40,000-41,000 in Antutu which isn't too shabby considering it only uses the the 4 x 1.9ghz cores during the test. Well worth the $399 @ Best Buy and development is decent for it with CM 11 being stable and Lollipop coming in a month or so. I bought three of them instead of the Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 because it's LCD looked crappy just like IPad Air 2.
Worst thing is scrolling in many apps like tapatalk and even play store is jerky not smooth, both in stock and cm port. Best thing is the screen. If it weren't for the screen I wouldn't get it
guys, 3 days and only 2 people shared their experience? come one dont just view the thread, share what you think to help others buy it.
Not clear to me what the point of this thread is. Much of the discussion on the entire forum is about peoples' experience with the tablet. Maybe if you ask a more specific question, you'll get more of a response.
I'm using this tablet for 4 days now I came from the iPad retina. The screen is so beautiful comparing with the iPad but it has its downsides.
Pro's
-screen
-android (can stream mkv to this device)
-battery life
Con's
-sometimes lag (hopefully the lollipop update will kill the lag)
-design (it's not bad, but the iPad feels more high quality)
Conclusion
I'm using the tablet for watching series and movies in my bed, for this purpose it's the best tablet I've ever been acrossed. Hopefully the lollipop update kills the lag and activate full 64 bit (I've heard the cpu works I'm 32 it mode at the moment)
Model: T800 WiFi (10.5)
Processor: Exynos 5420
I got my tab 2 weeks now and I'm really impressed by it.
I have to say that I've debloated it and trying to get more out of it because I'm not really happy with the amount of RAM used. Out of almost 3GB it uses 60-70% on idle, with no running apps.
I believe this is due to TouchWiz and (I think) some other Samsung stuff.
As for the screen: It's absolutely amazing! Big and Amazing! But, a battery drainer for sure, especially with full brightness.
About the battery life: Reasonable. I don't really watch movies on it and use it more for work, 3rd monitor, reading. Basically everything except watching movies. And still I find that the battery performance could be better. It's not bad, but I find myself plugging it in way too often then I would like. (But I guess that's the sacrifice you make for getting a big awesome screen).
I've also tried the latest CM11 ROM for it, and performance wise it got better.
Faster, smoother and way less RAM used (700MB instead of almost 2GB), but I found that it's missing a lot of Samsung features the stock ROM has to offer (which in turn made it useless IMO, unless you don't need them.)
And I'm also sure that the Lollipop update will do a lot of good things for it, and let's not forget the custom roms that will probably be made once Lollipop is available for this tablet. Things can only get better!
I wouldn't change my Tab S for anything else, although it may sound like I'm a bit negative about it, I absolutely love it.
My experiences so far, hope it helps you decide.

I can finallt post on here! Anyway I have the Galaxy tab s 10.5 with exynos chipset.
I have had this since lauch and no problems so far.
Display, The display is awesome event in direct sunlight you can still see it. Heck its even bright at night. It can rung videos up to 1440p and its way better then lcd. But there is one thing to look out for. Since its amoled, you may get burnt or stuck pixles. I have only one as of now. I have no idea how it happened but its really really tiny to see it. To aviod this problem is to not use applications such as facebook for 6 hours straight. Then you should be fine if you watch movies.
Speakers, great treble and some bass. The quality of it is clear and plays most music perfectly. Depending on some movies they may be quiet but for most its really loud. There are one speaker on the left and right on each side which is a good placement for a thin tablet.
Vibration. Oddly enough this tablet has vibration for nonfications and even when you type! Its not the best like most phones but works well.
Hardwarebuttons/keys. There is a backlight when you press the back or recent apps buttons. They light up which is a plus for me and the home button works well. The home button fingerprint scanner is ok.. But the Ipad air 2 scanner is better. This is due that samsungs home button is oval or the software has been made perfectly like the ipads. But it works most of the times.
Wifi, signal on this tablet rocks! It can detect my neighbors wifi signal and still have 3 bars. It works well on most routers and downloads are faster and more stable since its wifi antenna is really strong.
Battery, I get about 8 hours of screen on time which is really good. I wish i could get more but this is better than the ipads.
UI, samsungs Ui may be laggy but can be fixed by installing nova launcher and disabling knox / some system apps. The multitasking feature works well but not all apps are supported. You would need root to use all apps for multitaking. Also, Samsung lacked of getting updates to this tablet. There has ony been 2 or 3 updates since launch. After the first week I rooted and later install cm11. Its been blazing fast so far with no stutters. There is also custom roms for both the 8.4 and 10.5 inch tablet.
Build quality, very fragile. One drop and there goes your tablet. I would recommend getting a case or somesort to protect this tablet. The screen does pretty well in scratches too. Camera is good for outdoor use and has a great flash. The back has a good cover to put your hands on and prevent slipping. Altougb it has vert thin bezels in which it can be hard to hold in one hand.
Customization, more than the ipad and you can also fox the lag but doing a few things. Rooting can get you way more things like backing up your whole rom in case of a bootloop in which you can restore too. You can also flash custom roms and get tons of features. You can also add sd card for more storage.
App support for this tablet is ok. Most apps work well and some intensive games lag because it isnt optimised for this tablet. I only get lag at the loading screen.
Overall, this tablet is a great one with tons of customozation and features, but its fragile like the ipad air 2. But alteast its a bit thick then the ipad air. If you are a video watcher/ streamer, this tablet is good for you as it had great battery life, screen quality, and also different modes of color ehanments to choose from. Heck this is also my tv remote as it can change channels do other stuff with the ir sensor.
I've had my 8.4 WiFi Tab S for about a month now, here are my thoughts:
1) The stock ROM is laggy, and really betrays the specs of this tablet. Even installing Nova launcher and debloating as much as I can did little to speed it up. This was my biggest disappointment out of the box, and continued to frustrate me until I finally rooted it and installed CM11...more on that later
2) RAM usage/allocation is not good on the stock ROM. Dolphin browser for example will crash when more than a few tabs are open, where on my other devices this is not an issue.
3) The screen is gorgeous - it really is a class leader. Nothing comes close to Samsungs SAMOLED displays, this one has a 1600 x 2560 360ppi dazzler. It's really that good.
4) Most stock Samsung apps are gimmicky and useless. They just take up memory and shouldn't be there, or at least be optional to install.
5) This is XDA, so it's likely if you're reading this you're thinking about rooting the tablet. My advice? In the case of the Tab S 8.4 - DO IT. Do it NOW. CM11 in particular washes away my concerns above, and the tablet performs as it's specs suggest - super quick, minimal lag and powerful. It's like having a new tablet all over again, and things will only bet better once Lollipop comes out.

iOS is a much better OS than Samsung's Android. Let's be honest, the software really lags. But I'm buying the specs, and putting in CM. So with CM, and the specs... it works very well for me. No complaints. Depends on what kind of user you are and what you plan on doing with the tablet. I like a customized ROM, great battery for watching movies and surf the web and do very little gaming... Tab S 10.5 is perfect for me.

This guy's response is dead on. :good::good::good::good::good::good:
Running CM11 and I have nothing to complain. Just onhe thing annoys me, the hardware button on the bottom (in landscape). I would like to press iut with my thumb, but that's too far away. Especially when I am browsing lying in bed, pad on my chest/belly.
I have a tab s 8.4 LTE Exynos for about a month now.
Hardware build is fine but could be better. Tablet is very delicate, you have to be careful with it. Feeling in the hand is great, especially the soft back.
Display is absolutely amazing, but you already know that. Really bright, it can also go insanely dark if you want, and sharp as a knife. Colors can punch your face in, or be more natural, depending which mode you want and choose. One thing is for sure, expect screen orgasm all day every day with tab s
Software is mixed bag. There are great software additions for productivity etc but the best option is to put different launcher on it (Nova is great, but I found that smart launcher works even better).
Performance is good but with a different launcher it becomes much better. You have to keep in mind, this display has an insane number of pixels, runs what is probably the most heaviest android skin in existence (TouchWiz), and has note 3 procesor inside. With all this in mind, I was actually surprised with the performance, with multitasking and games as well.
Games run perfectly with some lag here and there on more demanding titles. I love how you can play GTA:San Andreas for example, then go multitask do a ton of other things, and then just hop back to GTA and it will not reload the game, you can just continue playing where you left of.
Speaker is good, lacks more bass, but loud and clear, I have no problem with it.
Battery is good, about 7h average of screen time. I use it heavily with 50% brightness, reading articles, browsing, games and a ton of movies and youtube. With power saving mode, or if you root the tablet and debloat you can go even further with battery.
Also I'm not rooted, yet.
Should you buy this tablet? For me, answer is yes. Kudos to all other great tablets out there, but I wouldn't trade this display for anything in the world.
very unsatisfied
Very unsatisfied. Would return immediately if possible . The screen is just too large and too wide, also the text is very small, and color temperature should be warmer .
Also not possible to hold it in one hand .
Very very unstasfied for reading and browsing . Very bad buy for me .
For watching movies it would be OK i guess .
I am using the 8.4 Wifi Tab S. I have it rooted and debloated a large number of system apps by using Titanium Backup. Using a stock ROM with Nova Launcher makes this thing fly. Also using CM11's latest build from 12/2/14 and everything is working fine so far. I highly recommend using Nova Launcher even if you are not rooted.

Nothing wrong with the tablet, but with your decision to buy it.
So you are the one to blame, not the tablet.
Buy phone for elderly. It has a small screen with big fonts. Perfect.

I have a tablet for one day, so I can't really post a long experience essay, yet, but so far i am totally impressed and love it from the inside out.
From software perspective it is Android as android (tried at least hundred custom roms in last 4 years or so, from phones to tablets), nothing to blow my mind there. I have to mention i came to TabS from Asus Infinity and it is like i am discovering a whole new world. TabS really is that better. The one thing that ruined the Asus tablet, which was perfectly fine from specs perspective, was the cheap internal storage, which was so slow that sometimes I had to wait more than 30s or a minute for screen orientation to change. I won't go into details, but it was a 700€ tablet which i almost threw into the wall because of all the frustration it caused me. So, maybe i am not looking objectively here, but TabS is faaaar superior.
There are some hiccups now and then, but i don't really think it is due to Samsung apps or HW.
From experience i think it is just the android that has problems. CM is just so heavily tweaked to overcome it, but put AOSP rom on the device, and i bet after few days you'll get the same problems as with any vendor built roms. Not as much, but still. I could be wrong though.
Anyway, from a day of playing with the tablet, i am impressed.
It is responsive, the screen is gorgeous and currently there is nothing to complain about.
I did root it, but didn't debloat it yet, because i don't see a reason to do it, yet.
If it comes to that, there are still other options - like CM and so on.
So far, very happy.
I recieved mine yesterday and a couple of quick thoughts:
-Screen is incredible, my <480P videos look terrible and pixelated almost because the screen is too good. Not the screens fault.
- TouchWiz is annoying and crappy. Nova Launcher helps but i hate the pull down menu. I wish CM offically supported this but it looks like you XDA guys <3 have done a solid job porting CM11 over. If i decide to keep it , I will root and flash CM on here.
-Alot of cool free gifts with the tab, NY Times. Marvel, etc.
-Fingerprint scanner is not bad. Alittle bit finicky though.
-love the MicroSD Card,
-the back is a bit slimy and annoying to hold up.
-Seems like there is some lag switching between apps. I wish this had a better CPU.
All in all, I am unsure what to do. I like the tablet but I think a N9 would be great also. I have 2 weeks to decide, if I see a good deal on a N9 I might switch to that. I would be worried in a year or so the Tab S will be quite laggy...
thoughts?
This cursed tablet is causing me depressions . It is so cold and big, not cozy and warm . It is the devils work . Unusable in landscape and even more in portrait . I warn you !!! Dont buy this piece of crap, buy something smaller with lower resolution what u can hold in one hand .

But I cannot return it because I bought it from internet from china . I want to change DPI in android so text is larger and even this is not possible . Total unreadable microscopic text . Hate it 1!!!!!!!

So that you see the difference between my nice EIZO monitor in "text" setting, which is perfect for browsing and office work, I can work non-stop with this monitor.
And the Tab S 10.5 in "Basic" display setting - which is the warmest (but there is not much difference in white temperatuer between the 3 settings).
After 20 minutes of browsing on this tablet my eyes are crying "WTF are u doing to us". Add headache to this and then u know how it is to work with this tablet .
If I would see this comparrison earlier I would not buy, but the reviews are not reviewing this most important stuff as thorough as they should . I BLAME THE REVIEWERS FOR THIS !! may the rot in hell .
