[Q] ex note 2 users opinion - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys I've come from a note 2 and enjoying the Xperia z but I have a chance to get a note 2 back and I'm tempted I miss the volume of the note speaker and even the earphone volume is louder I was woundering if you guys think I'm stupid maybe switching back to a note 2 :silly: there also us the screen do you guys think the screen on the note 2 was better
I know I'm going to get mixed views been posted on the Xperia forum but just asking any note 2 users who have now got the Xperia z what there thoughts are
Thanks guys

Nobody will think you're stupid - it's your choice. For me Note 2 is a "no go" device, I've had it, I loved it, but due to sudden death issues, defective eMMC chips, broken gpu drivers ( you'll never get proper CM on it, unfortunately ) and abysmal build quality ( the whole device squeeks when squeezed in hand, back cover bends under your fingers... ) I will never switch to Note again, even though I loved the big screen.
You need to ask yourself a question: do you want better quality, different design and better software/hardware ( according to devs like Entropy or Codeworkx ) - or a 0.3" larger screen, better battery life and a bit louder loudspeaker.
I won't comment on the screen because comparing LCD to AMOLED is pointless. XZ uses 1080p, has superior brightness and sun visibility, but AMOLED has better colours and viewing angles - so you have to decide for yourself.

Thanks ya I feel that the Xperia z has a nice screen the girlfriend has the HTC one and I feel it's better then thank to be honest just remember the note 2 screen been so vivid and I watch a lot of YouTube so just didn't know which one would be best to have in the long run lol
so it's true that the Xperia has better hardware and software over the note 2 also does the Xperia have a better audio chip for headphones
thanks

That's the thing with AMOLED displays - they're amazingly vivid. For many people they're actually too vivid, but that's personal.
Hardware on XZ is better because it's been proven again and again that Qualcomm Snapdragon is superior to Samsung's Exynos in many ways - especially in the software support. Sony shares all the stuff devs need to fully support their hardware - Samsung on the other hand... well, let's just say they're not so keen on that.

Thanks Ya think I might end up staying with my Xperia I'll have a look round at upping the volume on the headphones part I know the speaker is a no go and going to get some better headphones too
How it the audio chip in the Xperia is it just as good as the one in the note 2

For me the audio chip has better quality than Note 2's, but I remember it from CM and it was constantly broken so I might have a bad perspective there The volume problem is most likely due to EX300 headphones - they have quite high independence value, therefore are not so loud. Try any other headset, you'll notice the volume will improve greatly. I still use EX300 cause I love the quality.
My personal opinion: stick with XZ

[Q] Need help. Deciding between the note or HTC one x

Hi people.
I currently own a Samsung note international version. Installed a custom rom and did the whole nine yard.
Don't have any persistence issue or bug with it. Overall I'm happy with the device.
And now, someone wants to trade my note for an HTC one x. I'm tempted. Quad core processor, beats audio and the 720p screen.
Benchmark figure for the one x is amazing and the design isn't too bad either.
Anyone can please give me some advice on wether or not I should trade?
Right now in my head is bigger screen on the note vs raw power of the one x
Please advise
Thank you
Htc might be quadcore but the best trade for note would be s3...and the screen resolution and clarity of htc is nowhere near Note...so if your not a big fan of the screen size...its a good trade...
Thank you for the thought. I think I'll keep my note for now

A wise choice in my opinion...i had almost bought an s3...but decided to wait till Note2 coz we will regret buying a phone of smaller screen...

So true. I look at other phones now and think damn !! How did I manage with that for so long
I will never downgrade screen size again

What makes Note different?
Pen.
Screen size.
SD Card slot.
Lower specs.
What is more important for you?

One X has plenty of reasons to avoid it:
1) Smaller screen
2) Locked bootloader (and even if you unlock it, major restrictions on developers)
3) Beats Audio is a pile of marketing bull****. If a vendor resorts to something like that, they're likely hiding audio deficiencies.
4) Nonremovable battery
5) Nonexpandable storage

+1 All the same issues that I had on my One S.
Also there is no S-OFF so that makes things a lot harder, HTCDev is the only way to unlock bootloader - thus telling HTC you are modding your device !
Not to mention the lack of multi-tasking (unless you run init.d scripts)
And finally, Tegra 3 quad core !?!?! Huge battery drainer and **** performance, The One S had snapdragon S4 and blew the One X away in benchmarking !
The Note is still a pretty powerful device and has a way better screen. I wouldn't changemy Note for anything right now. Not even an S3.

Hey,
I wouldn't trade the Note. What is the use of a quad core. It is still not widely supported and the screen and the pen of the Note *are* a real runner
c.
I have both, note doesn't get used anymore.. battery is about the same. Hox is smoother, better browser experience, easier to hold, fits in pocket, but not as moddable. For me, the screen experience is better too on the hox. The note's screen was giving me headaches whilst reading, either on kindle or aldiko apps. If it wasn't for this, I wouldn't have bought the hox. The s pen is good, but not perfect.
You also look like a **** answering the phone when the note rings... so I was told....
Each to his own though..
sent via potential brick...
Edit: beats audio is pretty ****..
Edit 2: the hox isn't that much faster than the note, not twice as fast anyway... just smoother... Some of the games are pretty good too.
Headache may come from too much brightness or maybe you need glasses (not kidding!!). I can read on the note but i have to adjust the brightness, i have a problem with bright lights so i for one can say that if you adjust it maybe it will be better. My brightness is on 20%, ok reading something in direct sunlight ia a pain, and at night it doesn't hurt my eyes. Try it out...... Try not to brick your phone.

Tried all this, and different reading apps, and screen filter. Had no issue with my galaxy s, read loads of books, so assumed I wasn't overly sensitive to the pentile screen... But maybe it was just too much...
No headaches with the hox yet, on my second book. All is well.

I came to the Note from a One X. Main reasons I switched were terrible audio quality, terrible battery life and poor physical design. The Note is much better than the One X in all of those areas.

Also if your like me and take a lot of photos, the GNote camera quality is better at least according to GSM and Phonearena.

Not sent from an i phone....cos im not a fanny

Lets have some opinions here

hey all
as the title says lets see which is better Xperia Z or S4 iam not a fanboy but here i will say why iam confused
1-processor: i asked ppl who said that octa=quad in performance only better in battery life as its 2 quad processor (so almost the same)
2-Screen:Super Amoled Vs TFT idk which better actually both appeal to me one is Saturated and the other is natural...we cant forget about bravia engine 2 in Z
3-Camera: Ofcourse all samples say that S4 is better here but when i asked developers they said its only because of OVER COMPRESSION is xperia z which could be fixed on the next update is that true?(as S4 has camera features i see that Xperia Z has HDR Video....so software vs hardware feature.....i think software can be added but hardware cant)
4-sound: No Doubt that S4 is much louder in outer speaker but does it rly matter? for me if i want to listen 2 music i will use headphones which r much better in xperia z in quality
5-Duribility :why shall i talk about this? it already goes for xperia z
6-BATTERY:well....2600 vs 2330.....but 2600 with much sensors and amoled display(which i heard that it uses more energy that TFT but not sure) and 2330 with stamina mode that can be great.........another confusion here

Firstly, I think that a discussion such as this belongs in a general forum and not one for any device that we are supposed to be discussing. That being said:
1. It would seem that they probably can't get the more powerful quad to play ball in terms of power saving so they are going to have the phone effectively use a core from yesteryear most of the time (if I read things correctly).
2. TFT in the context of this point is a nothing term, it is simply the switching mechanism for the display elements and is probably used in Super Amoled too, the comparison is Super Amoled vs LCD, and if they have a shiny
top layer and you hold them at an angle so that you get strong reflections then they are equally useless.
3. In this day and age if the camera hardware were at fault for the bad pictures then the manufacturer would have serious egg on their face and Sony would surely have spotted the problem during component selection
and chosen differently, all signs point to software, the problem looks like severe compression artifacting from what I have seen.
4. The speaker on the XZ really should have been placed in the lanyard hole to avoid getting totally obscured so easily,
it seems to be loud enough to me but then I don't have to hear it from across a crowded, noisy room like some seem to. Also anyone expecting miracles out of such a pokey little thing really need a dose of reality.
5. Which feels more durable, a phone I have or one that hasn't even been released? an odd thing to be trying to judge.
6. The battery isn't fantastic on the XZ, and is probably a driving factor behind screen type choice (needing to eke out as much screen time as possible with such a thin phone) rather than as some seem to think Sony being cheap
or not knowing how to build a "top tier" phone. Comparison with the S4? The S4 and the discussions of it pre-release are very much alike, they are both nothing but hot air.
1. Samsung's Octa Core is a marketing trick. It's really just a quad-core CPU with 4 "helper cores" like in Tegra SoC. It's not really that useful and doesn't increase performance THAT much. Entropy explained it very clearly in XZ vs others thread. Look at how Tegra is performing - some devs call helper cores "meh" while many of them call them basically useless performancewise.
2. Amoled has better colours, better angles, better blacks. It has burn-in issues though. Both displays have their good and bas sides, there's no definite winner in my opinion.
3. No idea...
4. Obviously. Waterproofing took away some of the volume, but it's enough for ringtone - and people who use their phone to listen to music in public, via the loudspeaker, should be banished from ever going out from their homes.
5. Sorry but there's just no discussion here.
6. Battery life might be a bit better on S4. Amoled does take more energy if you're viewing light images. If you're viewing dark/black images, like the UI, it takes less power. Compared to S2 and S3, battery life on Z will be basically the same as S4.

What About More OpiNioNs?

Z....Note 2?

hey
i wanna choose between xperia z and note II
my main points are :
1-screen :
>resolution: 1920x1080 and 440 PPI for xperia z vs 720x1280 and 267 PPI for note 2.....i know that z is way better here but i heared many reviews saying that the difference isnt noticable by naked eye(i wont go watching with microscope lol) so is that true?(in brief Full HD vs HD)
>saturation in Amoled display in note 2 vs reality in tft display in Xperia z...for me i prefer saturated colours
2-Battery:3100 for note 2 vs 2330 for xperia z....i know note 2 is much bigger...but we have bigger display too...so does it last more than xperia z?
3-Camera :thats really important 4 me....i know that xperia z is 13mp while note 2 is 8 mp...but can ppl who used both phones tell us about that?
4-processor: slightly different i think
5-design:actually...i like both devices....but i hate hearing about Xperia z glass cracks...i saw many pics and threads about that..i dont care about water resistant as i live in adry country NO RAINS AT ALL lol
6-sound: i want 2 hear my incomming calls while iam walking in a busy street
now...lets here ur opinions thanks in advance
note :came here to say that i have to decide myself or like that...i just want to hear opinions ok as iam going to get it from another country

1. It is true and not true at the same time. It depends on your eyes and the content you're viewing. For me - the difference is easily noticable, especially when viewing FullHD content. Sony says their "Reality Display" is so crisp you feel like you're there - and believe me, with proper content that is actually true. Another XZ advantage is the fact that it uses full RGB matrix, while Note's AMOLED display used some kind of pen-octa-whatever pixel arrangement which makes it grainy when compared to XZ display. They're both great, the difference in resolution is not that huge - but there is a difference after all. Regarding colours - no LCD display can come even close to AMOLED in terms of colour saturation - is that a bad thing - that's personal, everyone prefers something different.
2. It depends on the rom. If you're going to use touchwiz on Note 2, it's battery will last longer than XZ. It is, however, slightly disappointing as my Note 2 never got more than 8-9 hours of screen time ( advertised 11-12 hours ), and battery life on CM didn't even come close to that. On XZ you'll get 4-5 hours of screen time tops due to different display technology and cpu.
3. XZ camera is by far superior - there's really no place for any kind of discussion here. It's true, some shots made with XZ are "grainy" due to high compression, but they're still much better than what Note 2 can produce. It has nothing to do with the amount of MPs though, just better sensor and software.
4. Qualcomm CPUs are way better than Exynos in terms of performance and stability. There are no security bugs ( at least none that we know about ) that plague whole generations of phones like it happened with S2, S3, Note 1 and Note 2. Also, XZ's processor is quite a bit faster than what you'll find in Note 2 - but don't expect some huge performance gains.
5. Build quality - no comparison here mate. Sorry for that, but Note 2's build quality is cr..p, honestly it's disgusting - the phone squeeks when you squeeze it, the cover bends under your finger, the "chrome" border cracks leaving white plastic underneath visible. Regarding glass cracking - well, if you drop your phone, it might crack - it's the same for every phone with glass display or back - Note 2 will crack too if you drop it.
6. I didn't notice any problems with sound. The loudspeaker is not that loud due to waterproofing, but it's not bad at all. Some people reported problems with call volumes - but there's a simple remedy for that - turn off the voice call equalizer in the setting.
Note that those are my personal opinions. I'd recommend you to buy XZ as a former Note 1 and Note 2 owner. I wasn't happy with the experience i got with Note 2 ( i really loved Note 1 ) and I have to admit that XZ server my 'phablet' needs much better.

What they said.
The most reliable phone both in performance and battery I've owned. Started with iPhone, last was GS3.
I just know it's going to work all day and still have power at 11:30 at night.

my main point that will make me not buy the xperia z is the cracks..........it heats due to playing games or so..thats normal but i heared that if u put it on ur dest which will be quite cold the glass might crack..........also if i dropped it....plastic is cheap to be replaced unlike xperia z glass...what u think?
I'm sorry but those claims are bull**** or early defective batches, please don't believe those, there is lots of happy people with this phone that haven't had a problem. It's a well built phone. There is someone that even did oc in a piece of ice to keep it cool. If normal glass doesn't crack like that how is tempered glass going to.

>saturation in Amoled display in note 2 vs reality in tft display in Xperia z...for me i prefer saturated colours

Here's my experience...I have/had both
1. Yes. I am not a super picky bird-eye person. When I tried to see a 720p movie and 1080p movie on both devices with such the small screens, honestly I couldn't tell the differences. We are not talking about 40 inches screen...However, you do will feel the screen on Note II is way bigger than the Z because Note II is true 5.5 inches. But the Z is 5 inches with a bottom 0.3 inches of area as the soft keys (back. home, and small app). That makes the Z's displayable screen even smaller. I really miss my Note II's bigger screen.
2. The battery life on both are similar. I used them for normal web browsing, music, email, texting, not much talking on the phone tho. The battery can last til around 9-10pm with a overnite full charge. Bottom line the Note II can change battery that creates a huge advantage.
3. Camera on Z is noticably better than Note II. However the startup time takes a few seconds (more than 3 sec usually) to load the camera app. Note II only needs less than 2 sec. So if you are the type of guys who needs to capture the quick moment all the time, the Z might disappointed you.
4. The Z is a bit faster running and launching the apps comparing to Note II.
5. It all comes down to personal taste. I don't like round corner too much and that's the major reason I am using the Z now. Also one note that with my asian small hand, I could hardly only use one hand to unlock my phone on the Note II, but Z is ok. I have numeric lock on my phone and that's my company email's policy. So if you have smaller hand and need to use numeric pin to unlock the phone, Z is easier.
6. Note II is better.
One side note though, the major reason I switched from Note II to Z is because my Note II died after 2 months of usage...I thought I hit the sudden death syndrome but actually when I took it to the services centre the guy told me the screen was dead. I got it fixed and sold it right away.
Happy hunting!

Please note that the camera app from the XZ only starts up slow the first time you run it.
So if you plan to use your camera run it before hand. After that when you run it, it opens within a second.
If you reboot your phone you will need to do this step again.

1. 1080p vs 720p....noticeable but not really a game changer
2. the note 2 has 5-6 hours screen-on with everything on dont even compare it to the xperia z because XZ will not last half as long. (yes i know depending on usage)
3. MP is not really important, go research on this. IMO Note 2 will win because XZ got too much processing, and I understand why XZ do this, they want the file to be small in order to upload it to FB quicker.
4. in benchmark its a world of difference, in real world use not much
5.XZ win hands down...the rarity of the device in the U.S market is another reason why i pick the phone
6. sound. you can hear it after you flash puremod, I havent test stock so not sure but i'm sure you can.
You cant even compare this two devices..
Its like comparing an m3 e92 with a simple a5 or something..
M3 is the z

Xperia Z Discontinued?

Just thought I'd start this thread as I think the Xperia Z may be being discontinued, at least for the time being.
I bought a new Xperia Z handset in May. I made a clear choice between this and the Samsung S4, mainly for two reasons. The first being the overall design. It looks a much nicer/sexier phone. The second being the water resistance. I use the phone in the bath and I go fishing a lot. Seemed an obvious choice really.
When I first started using the phone, everything worked perfectly fine and I was very happy with my purchase. Except for one thing. I was experiencing the WiFi drop out problem. If I was in my living room (where my WiFi router is) it connected without issue. If I tried in other rooms, I would get a low connection and it would drop in and out. This bug has been well documented over several forums (without any response from Sony unsurprisingly), so I was a little reassured that it was not my phone specific issue, and a lot of people stating that it will likely be resolved with firmware updated. Two updates later and I was still having the issue.
I decided to take the phone back to Argos (where I purchased it) to see if I could get a replacement and hope that it would not have the issue. They were quite happy to replace it on the grounds that it is a faulty phone, however they didn't have any in at this particular store. The guy done a search and found one (and only one) in a store some 50 miles away. I asked if they could order one in for me, so he had a look and he said they can no longer get any. I thought this was very odd. A store chain the size of Argos and they can no longer get a top of the range phone only released 6 months or so ago? I asked if they knew a reason why, he said he didn't but if the error I'm experiencing is common and they have had a load returned then Argos may have chosen to no longer stock them.
This does not bode well for Sony at all. If Argos are taking this stance then I would not be surprised to see other outlets do the same.
I was left with a choice to either carry on with the phone and hope that at some point in the future the bug will be resolved, downgrade to another model, get my money back or pay the extra and get an S4. I decided to go with the S4, a decision I was not entirely happy with as, other than the WiFi bug, I was very happy with the Xperia Z, but I could not continue getting frustrated with the WiFi dropping out.
For those interested in the differences between the two phones, from an end users perspective and not a techno guru reviewer, there are a lot of similarities between the two. There are obviously pros and cons for each. The S4 is a lot lighter, and the external speaker is fantastic. It's design is a little uglier and the rear case is very slippery. The Xperia Z just looks nicer, looks less like a toy. They're just as responsive as each other, both take great photos/videos. The Xperia Z keyboard is much better than the S4, but that may be me needing to get used to it.
Given the choice, if the WiFi problem wasn't prevalent, I would definitely have the Xperia Z back. Hopefully Sony will pull there socks up.
maybe the rumor about a refresh with S800 processor and triluminos screen is true then.
Congrats on your new S4...

xperia z is not discontinued (confirmed with sony executive), funny you judged that. though x-reality for mobile is coming for xperia z

i think this SteveJustice is probably a samsung bot desperately to attract sales as clearly sony is dominating and samsung s4 having a hard time getting sales now.

What? I gave pros and cons for both devices, and clearly stated that had I not had the problems with my Xperia Z then I would still have it. Not to mention I went to the store to get a replacement, not a different phone.
Even if the phone isn't being discontinued, it still begs the question as to why Argos are not getting any more in.
And where did you speak to this Sony executive by the way? Just happened to be passing in the street?
I have both the S4 and Xperia Z and your right they are very similar to each other and both have their pros and cons and let me just give a short of what I think are cons of the xperia Z compared to the S4 and funnily enough they are mostly to do with volume.
The Z speaker is lower in volume than s4, headphone volume is slightly lower and so is earpiece volume, S4 is a bit clearer aswell in earpiece, Z wifi is weaker and obviously due to a smaller battery, battery doesn't last as long. Camera/video I would say the S4 edges it but not by much
The Z is better to look at and and im sorry all those saying the screen on the Z is rubbish need to go to their opticians as the screen on the Z looks much sharper and better looking than the S4, not as good as the one on the HTC One but not far off, also the Z looks better than the S4 not that the S4 is ugly as I love the look of the S4 too, the Zs UI and keyboard etc are all better, the Z is just as smooth as the s4 if not smoother. TBH if the speaker was louder, earpiece was louder and audio volume was louder and wifi signal strength was stronger I would say the Z is the best phone on the market atm. The Z has restored my faith in sony as when I had the xperia S and T last year I wasn't happy atall.

I have a XZ and the wife a S4 and tbh there isn't much between the two.
Screen: Alot of song and dance is made about the samoled 1080p panel, and its obvious why the blacks are amazing but that's at the cost of the whites which are quite common on webpages (xz wins in whites). The viewing angles are better on the S4 although not as much as the reviews seemed to make out, one area where the XZ is better is the visibility in sunlight.
Winner: Close call id give it to the S4 sometimes colours seem a bit too saturated with XZ but not much in it overall.
Sound: The loudspeaker on the S4 rapes the XZ due to the XZ's waterproof ability. In call is slightly louder on the S4 but not by much, the S3 was amazing for in call volume.
Winner: S4 by a mile
Camera: Both use the same chip but different software is implemented and some hardware is different I believe (im no expert so could be wrong).
Anyway the XZ originally was a bit slow but with the latest update is on par with the S4 if not better, just took two pictures (night here in England) and the XZ was clearly better (both on auto, flash off). (uploaded both pics to pc for analysis)
Winner: Close call was about to say the XZ due to my rather short samples but im not a expert and reviewers praise the S4 so Id say a draw.
Battery: Both phones used differently so hard to compare. Depends on alot of variables such as area used, syncs, etc. I can't do a proper review of it but my amateur opinion says the S4 is better, more screen time but that could be because the wife is mostly on wifi at home. Anyway there's not a great deal if the S4 is better its not by more then 10%,
Winner: S4
Design: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so not much too say there, material wise though the XZ is better and it feels more solid. The S4 has the advantage of removable battery and is more comfortable to use in the hand. Then again the XZ is dust and water proof and has soft keys.
Winner: XZ
Software: Id say stock xperia is definitely better then stock touchwiz based on design but then again that's user preference. I love the smart stay feature in touchwiz though and the vibrate when you pick up for messages/put phone to head to call from messages.
Xperia has the Bravia Engine though and as we mostly view photos on our phone these days that's a neat trick. Overall both are running 4.22 and rock solid so not much in it.
Winner: Draw.
Overall score: S4 wins 3. XZ 1. And 2 draws.
Conclusion: Both great phones and not much too seperate them, go check them out in store before you buy either and see which one you prefer. At the same time check out the HTC One...

Great honest comparison mate
You forgot performance , s4 wins here thx to s600 ( specifically gaming )
Battery is much better since s4 gets average 4:30/5 hrs screen time. While xz barely makes it 3:30.
Anyway these 2 vs one are pretty much weaker in every aspect.
Speakers ate better and louder then on both
Headphones are also better with more quality then on both , also louder.
Screen is better by much then on both. ( tho amoled has better blacks ) also better viewing angle , brighter , and better sunlight visibility.
System speed is much better then on both. ( even faster then n4 on 4.3 )
Design .. I'd say only xz and one are pretty , I'd call this one personal preference.
Build quality .. I guess we agree aluminum is more premium ( + serves as a heat sink so one is much cooler then both )
Camera is actually better then on xz after the recent updates both in day light and dark , also the camera is much snappier then both , as for video neither comes close to one thx to the ois and hdr mics
Speaker for calls is also better , again stereo and it's very loud and clear.
Front camera is also better then on both + wide angle
Battery is on par with s4 if not better , at least in my case I perform much better then the cousins s4. , the other cousin with xz usually gets around 2:50/ 3:20 screen time. outside. While my average is 6 hrs screen time with heavier usage .
I guess this would be my 2 cents.
Btw my cousins have s4 and xz while my friend has n4 , pretty much surrounded with mobile geeks lol. So this comes from the tests I made with them , if you guys need some screen shots , or pic samples lemme know.

Having had the HTC one earlier in the year, three things i disagree on are
1) audio is actually better on the s4, but the HTC one is louder
2) battery life on HTC is not better than S4 and i certianly wouldnt call it close either especially if we include standby time though it is better than the xperia z.
3) as for looks i really do not like the fact that the One has the htc sign inbetween the buttons i think thats ugly, i think all three phones look good, if i was to choose an order it would be XZ, S4 then One.
The main reasons for getting the s4 and selling the one was better battery and memory card slot as i ran out of memory on the one and i seriously hope htc change this as 25gb isnt enough. Also while the one is loud i feel it lacks the bass of the s4 and XZ, also i find the custom eqaulizers better than simply beats on or off

Z1 good enough.? What u think

Hi everyone.
Im about to get a new phone and im confused with
Z1 or HTC m8
Any one had compare this phone together.?
I'v heard that z1 camera is way better than the m8 is that true?
I wud be glad to hear both sides. The advantage and disadvantage of the z1 or HTC m8
Thank you in advance
And yes I had Xperia S for 2 years

A good idea to start is to use google and youtube to search. I just did it, took around 6 seconds and found many results.
I did that already
Its not a big deal to see what others thought and if they satisfied with there z1
I think Z1 is better than M8, I dont talk about the hardware, I talk about the experience
I personnaly don't like the HTC UI, it's a lot heavier than sony's and it's weirdly placed (compared to Google Experience or even sony's).
Overall, I think the Sony's UI is intuitive and clean, closer to a stock Google Experience.
I haven't had any first hand experience with M8, just felt it in hand at a service provider's stand, and I quite don't like it. It has a pretty weird length/width ratio, making it look elongated, and not wide enough. Plus, just like fellow posters mentioned it, HTC Sense UI doesn't make much sense to me, so to speak.
As for Z1, it looks just as classy (if not more so), cleaner and lighter UI, blazingly fast, better camera. Not to mention battery life. Have been happily using this Z1 since last November, best smartphone I've had so far.
So, in my opinion, go for Z1.
if you drive and use navigation app alot, stay away from z1, or probably from android. this sh*t can't even run a navigation + music player through bluetooth at the same time for 1 or 2 hours. reinstalling the firmware doesn't help. huge joke for this much hardware specs... as a driver who has to drive at long distances, i really regret getting the z1, or android... even my 3 years old nokia n8 can do a better job, seriously. so much for android's failed multitasking

I am sorry you have such problems, which, honestly I have never experienced. And, yes, I have been using navigation on the Z1, and the music player at the same time. Haven't had any problems on JB, and no problems on KK.
Perhaps you should use a GPS dedicated unit for long distances (I have got a Becker Ready 50, for that matter) although I have used the Z1's navigation for the past 6 months, with no problems whatsoever.
So going on like this will not help the OP, since both phones he mentioned run on Android, and both use the same Bluetooth protocols and also same Google Maps navigation system. But since you mentioned that Nokia N8, well, maybe he should reconsider then.

actually... the problem was that if i drive about 1 hour, the navigation and walkman player will just shut off by themselves, no force close window, nothing... even if they won't shut off by themselves, sometimes they are stuttered and laggy... same thing will happen even if you only use navigation... there is no problem if you are using the navigation for short distances but it's quite dangerous when that problem actually happens on the road.
don't go get N8, i was just saying. the app quality and quantity are too horrible. if OP really only wants to choose between these two, then definitely Z1 (camera), although it won't be a mistake to choose M8 (build quality). but if OP relies heavily on navigation like me, then go get a Lumia.
For everything other than camera and waterproofing, go for m8.
The screen, speakers, sound, etc are light years ahead.
Also way way more development

I have had a chance to compare the Z2 camera (the same module) against the One M8. Here is a detailed comparison:
The question is .... why are you comparing Z1 to one M8 instead of the Xperia Z2?
I have tested all three and the question is what you are looking for in the phone. Camera-wise there is no match to Xperias in terms of quality of pictures.
Xperia Z1:
+ Camera
+ IP Rating
- Not an IPS panel = poor viewing angles
- Shatterproof film on the screen with imprinted Sony logo
- Poor speakers
-/+ Blocky Design
- No IR Sensor or podometer
One M8:
+ Awesome Speakers and audio quality both on headphones as well as speakerphone and speakers
+ Very comfortable rounded design (slightly big bezels)
+ Better screen than that on Z1
+ IR Sensor + Podometer
- The body scratches easily
- No IP rating
Xperia Z2
A lot of things that were wrong with Z1 have been fixed in Z2 :good::
+ IPS Display
+ Front-facing stereo speakers (no match for M8 as they have waterproofing but still better than most competition)
+ Noise-cancelling headset
+ 5.2 inch display with better screen to body ratio (almost same size as Z1)
+/- Blocky Design
- No IR sensor or podometer
Thx for this review,
I didnt go for Z2 cuz it is big on hand.
I didnt try it by my self and I didnt know the z1 had thos problem while Z2 dont ?
Will consider it from now on
Thanks for this information

That's right M8 pics are better and has more quality than Z1, but Z1 hardware is better
Sony UI is not so heavy to use most spaces of the Ram
Z1 is heavier and can take more damages, even it's water resistance and you can safely take it in water and take pics
