Hi there,
Got my hands on my friends HTC One which I unlocked and rooted. Still running a stock rom though.
I was wondering if anyone decided to ditch the Sense 5 yet and what the consequences of that might be, basically what I'm trying to do is disable the blinkfeed but I assume it's part of HTC Sense?
If you flash an AOSP or AOKP rom you will lose zoe function, boomsound and other stuff
However, i think you can't fully disable blinkfeed
i've ditched the launcher for Nova, still like all the other sense apps and features

Ah okay, I'll guess there will be custom roms in the future without sense but with the important features.
Time will tell eh:good:
I found that HTC Sense was draining a lot of battery after I signed into a bunch of different accounts. I think it was mostly BlinkFeed, but there could be more.
After unlocking the bootloader and rooting, I skipped the sign in prompts for HTC's services, and only signed into my Google account. From there I installed Nova Launcher, and my battery life has been better than ever.
Personally I still want to keep HTC Sense for the IR blaster app and Bluetooth apt-X, but most of the other features are unnecessary to me.

I haven't seen this HTC sign in prompt you're referring to, does the stock launcher run in the background?

If you're just trying to get rid of blinkfeed, you can use any of the custom launchers (Apex, Nova, GoLauncher, etc) and you won't have to worry about it anymore.
If you're rooted/ROM'ed, you can run the ROM Cleaner script (link below)

Is there a ROM available which does not have HTC Sense, and has only Native Clean Andriod in it..
There's no Generic Android rom atm. I'm also waiting + hoping for one.
What about Nexus One ROM? I really digg the UI
If you pay for a premium MoDaCo account, you can cook a MoDaCo rom without Sense UI
I no longer care for Sense. It's great when you have a current Android version, but it creates a big lag-time between new Android release and new HTC rom release.
I wish I had gotten the Nexus One instead.....

I feel you mate. I had the same thought. Looking at how slow HTC were in bringing 2.1 to the Hero, I have a bad premonition that the same gonna happen to the Legend.
And I really like the UI/UX on the Nexus One. Any custom ROM that has Nexus One app launcher, photo app, etc.?
Well I've searched and there's only a few (3 that I could found) custom roms available now, all with Sense. I decided for myself to give it another 2 wks and then, if there's still no clean Android rom, I'm selling my Legend and getting Milestone. And no more HTC phones for me as they only make them with Sense now.

not Full... you get a lot FCs if you cook a rom without Sense
There is a rom available on Modaco without sense.. Espresso
It works very smooth and looks great!
This is the link
Edit: No, there still is Sense.. Just with extras.
if you hate it so much, why don't you disable it...
well it isn't quite disabling but it will work fine...go to settings application management and find htc sense and click "remove defaults" or so....next time you hit the home button you will be prompted to use sense or android home...if you want to keep the android home, simply hit "make default" in the same window that pops out when you press the home button

Don't think so Michael. I'm prepared to be corrected but I don't think default android apps wiill appear upon deleting HTC custom apps.
I did try to remove the HTCSenseLockScreen.apk and it did not give me the default google lockscreen... it was really strange... the lockscreen did work like the sense one where you drag it down, but no background on it and the text was messed up...
Right now i am playing with the Sense from the MyTouch and that look great...

Yeah they won't, but i would be willing to cook a rom containing the factory legend rom rooted, and with no HTC apps but stock android apps, if someone would be willing to test this method?
i am willing to test... if you want i have the system from the vodafon 2.02.178.2 build.. well it is in the 2.2 tread on modaco from some china dude.. i mean why not use the latest bug fixes also for the rom if it should be..

It's not about hating SENSE, it's about wanting the stock Android because of updates, ie. a better phone. SENSE is great, when it's paired with the latest Android. But when it's used with an older than current version, it creates lag time.
I am going to sell my Legend and get an Nexus One. It's older, but it's still betterish than anything else out there.

I did it this way, deleted allmost every HTC stuff. But if you remove a HTC-app, it will not give you the default android one. You have to get these apps from somewhere. I just thought about creating a rom without that htc stuff.
But i have to say that not every htc app is crap. Some apps are better than the android one.
Have you tried removing Rosie?
Any problems afterwards?
I have made a sense free (ish) Rom, there is still some slight differences like the black bar on top.
But it still beta, i will upload it tonight or tomorrow
EDIT :
Deffo tomorrow, i am too tired to keep working
Well first is that even possible? If it is then what is the result?
I am curious because lately my phone has been resetting itself (I don't mean a full reboot, but rather sense seems to be reloading. I am not really sure how to describe it but it is kind of like in windows when you log off and and log back in and windows restarts but you don't go through the whole post test) At first I thought maybe it was an app messing up and then I thought maybe it was the rom itself messing up, but now I am thinking that maybe sense is being flushed from memory and when that happens it needs to reload.
Any thoughts?

OK so you are basically confirming my latest suspicion. I like the clock (with the weather and effects) widget to much get rid of it.
What would cause sense to reset itself?
(If I don't use sense then does that mean I lose all my flickr and facebook syncing?)

do you know of any aosp roms with sense besides alysius?
If you download beautiful widgets you can get the sense looking clock and there are several widgets to replace the sense ones. Some HTC apps and widgets have not been mimicked yet. Launcher Pro Plus has a contatcs and one other widget available now and he is working on making more like HTC's. I really like launcher pro and run it instead of sense if I run a rom with sense, which is not very often. I have been running darchdroid or CM6 most of the time and do not miss sense.
You might try reflashing the ROM you are using without a wipe and see if that fixes it.

Will reflashing have any effect on apps2sd
I wish all apps had a free or trial version so I could sample them before having to commit to any money. Beautiful widgets does it mimic the weather effects of HTCs clock/weather widget?

I am using Aloysuis 2.1.2; the restarts occur in both the 2.1.2 and the 6-29 update. The kernel is listed as being: 2.6.29-d30020a8 [email protected] #1
I am not using any task killers other then autokiller (which came with the rom and allows you to set memory levels on when the phone will start various apps e.g. empty app, content provider, and hidden. I currently have it set to the optimum preset which has the following levels set: hidden app: 40, content provider: 50, empty app: 60
Being that I know believe sense is restarting in spare parts I have "home app in memory" checked but I don't think this has any real effect on the problem.
I've unlocked, installed CWM, rooted it, installed busybox via the busybox installer from the market (which requires root), however titanium tells me that the SU command fails and I should attempt to re-root my device
Where should I go from here before I break something?
Thanks
UPDATE:
Never mind, booted into recovery, reinstalled VIVID_CWM_ROOT_VER2.zip all is good
had the same drama at first nice fix how are you finding the phone???
So fair I am impressed with the speed, I have not used 4G yet, its not available in my area yes, but its light years ahead of all the other handsets here even on 3G.
Physically I was expecting it to be heavier, and coming from a HTC HD2, the lock and volume buttons are perfectly positioned so that I accidentally press them all the time as they are in opposite of what I am used to and its the same width but 1 cm taller, which means I can no longer use my leather belt pouch I miss having a physical hangup and separate physical answer key which through the circumstances of its birth (WinMo 6.5) the HD2 was blessed with. Build quality on the MicroSD card slot is lacking, it could have been made better. I also miss being able to hot-swap the microsd card as I could in the HD2, instead I have to pull the battery which is annoying.
Software wise, I gotta say that I am REALLY missing MIUI, Sense is very pretty but I find it is not really what I am looking for and its quite clunky in comparison to MIUI... and I hate how it squashes down widgets for no reason at all. I will probably play around with AWD or LauncherPro in the meantime, I'm also not really a fan of the ringpull unlock screen but I'm sure I will get used to it in time. I noticed that the VIVID and RAIDER have sense 3.0, where as the Velocity has Sense 3.5... maybe ROM people can yank a clean build from the Telstra build along with teeter
BlueTooth - Works Great, Syncs INSTANTLY with my car, never skips on A2DP, works great.
Wifi - Works fantastically
Games work great on it, I'm cranking away with my PSX emulator (FPSE) and GTA III runs good, I was originally disappointed it didn't run better but after I reduced the draw distance in the game settings it was good, I think I had too many apps running as well. I installed ATK to take care of that and the phone is much better after I have ATK autorun every hour and clean up background apps.
Battery life I can't tell because I have been using it almost the entire time and it melts through it pretty fast, I'd give it a week of normal day to day use before I really give a verdict on it, I do have the screen at 100% brightness all the time which doesn't help, and I already have an extended battery in the mail. I sync 2 gmail accounts and an exchange account, all in push, and I just leave BT and WIFI on all the time as I like just jumping in the car and it works, or getting home and already being on the wifi.
Overall I give it a 6 out of 10 so far, with CM7 or CM9 and MIUI that would quickly elevate to an 8 out of 10, with all the space inside the phone, the size of the standard battery is disappointing, they could have put one almost twice the size in there if they arranged the sim and microsd slots better.
The biggest problem is that I was really spoiled with the HTC HD2, I'd say 90% of my gripes with the phone are with sense, I find it ugly and clunky and I wish HTC had just left android alone... I don't have an issue with gingerbread, I haven't used ICS yet and I'm in no busting rush. As soon as the ROM community grows up for this phone it will be amazing, until then its kinda meh.

still, widget locker isn't perfect, every now and then I see the standard lockscreen for a few seconds, so its like the sense lockscreen is still activating in the background

if rooted, you can also go into /system/app/ and rename HTCLockscreen.apk to HTCLockscreen.bak and it will remove the ring lockscreen, and put it back on the old sliding tab lockscreen (froyo/gingerbread stock/aosp lockscreen)

Cool trick. It doesn't break anything? I remember doing something similar on my Desire and I couldn't dismiss alarms (ugh) or answer calls, I'd have to do a battery pull.
(also, I think you need to be rooted to disable the stock lockscreen in WidgetLocker, so maybe it's essentially doing the same thing; alarms/calls work fine on my Vivid with it disabled, so maybe I'm answering my own question)

i did it on my mytouch4g and had problems dismissing alarms, but i got gentle alarm, so i didnt worry about it any more, lol
havent done it on this phone yet
i take that back, i did it, but i didnt run any alarms or test any calls, so i dont know if that is broken or not
Ah yes found it, settings > advanced > disable stock lock.
it warns that this will make any of the physical keys wake the device, I'm cool with that
Yeah, I actually like waking my phone with the volume buttons sometimes, depending on how I end up grabbing it in my jacket pocket. And it's not like they unlock the phone; I have WidgetLocker set to only have a 15-second timeout, overriding the normal display timeout, so I'm not too worried about accidental battery drain.
Hi Guys.
I just got myself a HTC One on O2, black, not that it matters.
I'd like to stick with the original software for a little while at least to test it out. Eventually I'll load it with Cyanogenmod but I think only nightlies are available at the moment.
In the mean time however I would at the least like to remove all the crap that comes bundled that I don't want. Like twitter.
Whats the least invasive way to remove all the crap.
I will eventually flash cyan but I'd like to avoid major changes for now if possible, although I'm guessing I'm gonna have to at least root it.

I would s-off with revone, change the CID to something like HTC__001 and then flash a 401 ruu, this will effectively debrand your device. You could of course aso try out the google edition CID and RUU but give sense 5 a try, sense 5 is really really good

Just don't activate the accounts you don't use. The phone will never bother you about syncing other accounts and you'll forget about it soon enough. I have my Google account, FB/Twitter and Dropbox active and the phone's never bothered me about activating others, if that's what you're worried about.
My advice: learn to root if you haven't already, and run rom cleaner if the rom you want supports it (I'm on ARHD 12.1 w/a standard rom cleaner run, phone is super fast with very low battery consumption)
I'll try not to rant here.
I love my HTC One. And T-Mobile. But no GSM carrier works in my condo. So I'm required to have wifi calling. And I really, really hate any manufacturer skins. I want to be able to use stock Android, and despise having to be stuck using this Sense nonsense.
Is anyone actively working on getting T-Mobile's wifi calling to work with stock Android ROMs? Or has it been determined impossible at this point?

It isn't impossible, T-Mobile released the Wi-Fi calling framework so third-party developers could incorporate it. But, very few have bothered to do so.

I've installed the Google Now Launcher which is a bit of an improvement. However it doesn't give me the nice transparent statusbar with a shadow that all the screenshots show. It instead gives a semi-transparent statusbar with a border. I've installed various xposed mods to make it fully transparent but that results in some glitchy behavior (opening certain apps makes the statusbar turn white)
