From what I understand Ubuntu Touch is still in the testing phase. Word is that Canonical will launch a stable build by the end of this month. So it mere days/weeks. The preview was beautiful. Personally excited to get my hands on it.
The only drawback I can anticipate will be the initial lack of apps. Which won't even take long to change I'm sure.
Currently on PA:3.15
Thank you to all the devs working on any ROM/app/mod/kernel grinding their finger tips to the bone.

I really don't see that happening at all (failing). Been following it up to this point of the preview being dropped. I realize its early to say but I feel that it was the first OS to do exactly as any company had advertised. Nothing more or less.
When I had my Evo LTE threads were full of support for it. Ubuntu alone has definitely taken off, have it as a dual boot and primary on another.. So personally I believe as long as it stays on the path and future they are creating we can expect something pretty awesome. There was some mention that people felt it was just a launcher in a sense. Idk I felt it was entirely new experience.
Had a chance to test the Infobar as well. Which the two operated very similar. So it gave a full preview.
Being in love with Paranoid and having a gesture based phone I'm still looking forward to it. Worse comes to worse I think it will bring alot to future android development. But all in all I would love to see it succeed and become a major player.

I tried it out today...because i just got my N4 and haven't activated it yet...and well...the keyboard wasn't working...it was pretty as all hell, but i can see how it's a beta...painfully so...

It's not even in beta. It's a developer preview right now. They don't even expect testers to use it just yet. The wider testing phase should be the end of May or early June. That's when 3g and auto bug reporting will be enabled.

It is in "dogfood" stage, meaning that their in-house developers use it on a daily basis. It runs fine, there's just not much in the way of apps (even built-in) for it yet. It can be laggy at times because it is not optimised, but a person could use it daily if you don't need a lot of apps on your phone.

All issues can be found here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/ReleaseNotes#Known_Issues
You could also try it with MultiROM.

Xoom vs nexus 7 jelly bean vid

Hey everyone,

Xoom looks so washed out in color compared to the 7......for a nightly on the zoom it runs pretty good
you could have cleaned the screen on the Xoom before you made the vid!! lol
I should have. Lol

we had a kindle. Lovely device... until the nexus came out.
You can't even utilize things like Google voice, maps with gps etc.
But I guess that still counts. I would never put the kindle in the same category as these devices though. We had one until 2 days ago. It sold within 10 minutes, which was $135

Perfect.
You're gonna love the nexus 7 if you are coming from the kindle. Like I said, we are coming from a fire, and it's night and day. Maybe if I rooted the kf, it would have been closer. But I don't like to root devices my other half is using. I only root the stuff I use.

guys, quick little update. I shut off the live wallpaper on the xoom, and it's considerably faster now. Still not 'just like nexus 7' but much much smoother. I'm gonna make another video now and you guys will see the improvement in smoothness and performance. FWIW, I also went from 110 to 111 nightly.

I was going to say... you kind of crippled the Xoom having the wallpaper up. While the n7 was made for jellybean I think its more a product of having such newer hardware in the n7 compared to the Xoom. You have faster memory, quad core, and a more powerful GPU on the n7. Even though PPI settings are set higher for the n7, effectively you have less going on, less screen real estate etc for the same or similar resolution. I'd like to see the build.prop edited on the Xoom the same as the n7 if it could be displayed without crashing with everything possible configured the same. I think you are still going to see the fact that the n7 is a generation newer processor wise will still beat out the Xoom.
On the other hand, it still looks pretty nice on the Xoom. Jb breathes new life into dual core devices!

indeed...
video is rendering still, when done, here is the link
http://youtu.be/4yVH53OD9UM
As he correctly points out in the video, he's using a custom hacked together ROM on the Xoom vs. a stable ROM on the Nexus 7. What he doesn't mention is that the Xoom ROM is a port. It's not compiled from source...it can't be. Google hasn't dropped the Xoom source code for JB into AOSP yet.
Let's compare this again when the Xoom actually has source code available and someone compiles a raw AOSP ROM for it, thus we can compare apples to apples.

you think Google builds aosp source code for every device? your smokin!
hash code built jellybean from SOURCE and created the device tree, added necessary drives, and compiled. far from a port, I would only assume the same was done for the Xoom. a port? cmon!
Your accent is ridiculous. Good comparison though.

OK you're right, I stand corrected. You can probably build for the wingray and stringray out of what's there now, but there are still no binaries for JB for either the Xoom or Nexus S. I'd imagine things will still run better once that stuff is available, particularly updated graphics drivers.

Anyone managed to put the note 2 os on to the note yet?

I have been watching videos on youtube and the note 2 is pretty epic...the way you can have two apps running on the same page just like a laptop etc just looks pretty epic.
If some one has done it, link me to it, or if someone is in the process and it comes out in time, then remember me and link me to it
Lol thanks guys
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
It's part of the new Touchwizz framework so sources aren't available and we can't port the note 2 roms to the note because it's different hardware and drivers. There's a chance they'll include some of the note 2 features such as pick up to answer in the jb official release but that's all speculation at this point, just have to wait.

But surely if someone has managed to get HTC sense working (is) on the note then the drivers etc should not be to hard?

Upgrade time - How's the CM experience?

Upgrade just came up and I was considering getting the One. Loved CM10 on my Epic Touch 4G and was curious what the experience was like on this device. The button configuration seems odd on this phone so I wanted to get people's thoughts. Also, is the camera as bad as some say?

But the HTC one is riddled with QC issues and doesn't really improve much over the last Gen of phones. The next Gen has snapdragon 800, 3000 mAh batteries and whatnot. Plus, the 800s are really close. Like the G2 is already here.
The One isn't that good IMHO. The camera is overhyped really and the number of defects people are reporting make this phone worth skipping.
To stay on track with your question the CM experience is something I don't think someone in their right mind would recomend. Hell it has a tendency to burn up some phones and need replaced.

I agree if your sole decision is CM. Then wait. Cm was better on my gs3 than on here. It's pretty buggy and as has been said there are many reports of people's phones bricking cause of cm. To the quality control issue... I have had none, this phone has been great in that regard... But maybe I'm just lucky . In all honesty, overall this is the best phone I've ever owned. I don't think you'd go wrong with this phone.

My $0.02:
For the short while I was able to use CM, I wasn't exactly blown away. It was exactly the same as my GS2, but with better specs. There were no extra features or anything. It looked nice with Black Infinitum, but again, not really different from my old phone. There were some bugs, so...
And you do have to watch out for the max freq lock, which will burn up your phone as it sits.
EDIT: However, CM Nemesis is coming soon. I would still wait for for a new device with better specs, but hey, this is a fairly new device.

I really haven't had any issues since 10.1
Sent from my One using XDA Premium HD app
I used it for a week while on vacation and while it was nice to see a less bloated One with all the additional customization .. there were several issues and features that made me go back.
The biggest was GPS lock - I could not get a steady lock and if I did the radius was quite large, throwing me all over the map.
The phone actually seemed less responsive overall - including a slight delay when turning on the phone.
Missed the htc car app - google car and the ones from the market are not the same
and the IR - now it has only come in handy once, when my remote died; however, the remote can be fun at the bar
The HTCOne is a unique phone, the button layout is strange and is my biggest headache. Contrary to most posts above I like the CM experience on it better then sense, but this is my first (and only ever!) sense phone. I much prefer the AOSP experience. CM is lacking in a few places but core functionality is there and works good enough for me for daily use, for the record I'm on 10.2 20130819
Truthfully though I think I would wait for a new nexus device. I love the feel of the One in my hand but it's nothing amazing hardware wise.

Does the music still sound wonky? 10.1 would make my songs really quiet then normal then quiet etc. It drove me crazy.
Also, does the wake still take like a second? That was also a problem with 10.1.

[DISCUSSION][CM] Project Nemesis

So guys I don't know how many of you are CM fans, I know that since I had my first Droid X I kept hearing things about CM, as time passed I learned the beauty of flashing Roms to our loved phones and getting the best out of them, CM has always kept me amazed with all the improvements they have made to this beautiful platform, so changes very deep inside for us to know, but now there´s a new project, PROJECT NEMESIS, I've been waiting for its release like a kid waiting for christmas  , my hopes are very high and I´d like to hear your ideas of what all this could be! :fingers-crossed:

Good luck with that. The market share for 'cyanogen messaging' would be very slim. Chances of meeting someone with that service would be slim.
It would idealistically have to be a app within its own similar to Kik or WhatsApp.
as far as im concerned CM sucks big time. supporting too many devices right now. which really puts a halt to developing new apps/ideas or introducing new freatures.
Really? They just released focal and voice+ and now they're doing cm account to find or lock a lost phone. Those apps/ideas seem pretty new. Plus color and gamma settings. What more do you want?

Well, HTC devices are very high quality, after you get past the carrier blocks to root, unlock bootloader, s-off and flash a custom rom, (aosp preferably because its always newer than sense).
But I'd rather get the updates first at the cost of a camera not being as good and ease of rooting.

I agree. HTC is my favorite when it comes to hardware. I've had the N1 and a One X+ from them. This is going to be my first LG. Yes, I think you are right, but as we commented in another thread the other day (the sony nexus concept phone) there are some brands who could never work with google to make THE NEXUS. Welcome back! Honestly though, did you use the IR blaster very often?

I actually used it a lot. I would use it when I lost my remotes and got too lazy to look for them. At the sports bars to mess with my friends and some other random things. The funniest part of having it was when people would ask what app I used. Mainly iPhone users. Then i would have to explain it needs an ir blaster! Maybe the next iPhone will have them (not) lol

Try Vanir ROM. It's the smoothest and fastest I've used, it has some unique features and a CM10.2 base. Also has Pie, Halo, Focal and tons of USEFUL tweaks.

Welcome back... but sorry, ROM recommendation threads aren't allowed. Just read and search and flash away.
