Manufacture defect in our screens? Internal Dip? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

The day i got my Galaxy S4 i went straight to charge the device. I left it on my nightstand which is under a window and when i saw the reflection of my blinds through the screen, they where bent out of shape and the reflection looked distorted. Looking closer, the screen seems to have a circular dip in the middle left-ish area. All the devices I tested this do not have a distort. (iphone 5 and 4S, the SIII)
I'd like for everyone to look at there device and make sure they don't have this also. I cant check the devices over at carrier stores, abit busy sadly...
I've given a Sample of lines that u can use as a test and also left a quick video, ill try to make a better one but its all i could at this moment. Also its extremely hard to get it on a video vs what u see in person =/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ej5VCPnKls
Best way's too test are as follows.
1) place your phone right in front of you on your computer desk and look at your Monitors reflection. It works extremely well when you look at Lines or a lot of text.
2) Look at a bunch of stuff that's well lit.

Man, I have exactly the same problem and the easiest way for me to see it is to have a reflection of a fluorescent tube on the black screen. It's ugly! This doesn't seem to be a universal thing, though, because this is the first post I have come across since I found out about the distortion problem. Did you find out anything at Bestbuy?

My first galaxy s4 had dead pixels, my second galaxy s4 had scuffing all over it, a large scratch on the MICRO sd card port, overheated and would constantly shut off, followed by the display that completely died a day later. Sprint advised me to give the HTC one a shot. As soon as I got the HTC one home, noticed paint run off, gaps between panels, dings, dents, pretty much the poorest quality control standards I have ever seen. Now I have to find away to get sprint to allow a FOURTH return on a 600.00 device. I may have to get mean, I dont like to act that way, but what sprint has put me through to obtain a working 600.00 high end device is not acceptable, I would not wish the experience I am going through on my worse enemy.
Im not picky, and I understand mistakes when they happen. But two damaged/defective S4's, and one damaged/defective HTC one in matter of 7 days? I really cant even believe it.
All I buy is Samsung products when it comes to electronics, never in my life have I EVER received two defective units in a row. I feel like a crazy crack addict every time I go back to the sprint store and request a replacement. If sprint didn't have a 14 day satisfaction guarantee, I would be out 600.00, because there is no way in a million years samsung or HTC would take responsibility for scuffing or damage to the body of the device. Even with sprints 14 day satisfaction guarantee, you are only allowed 1 device exchange. So basically, im entitled to nothing with this issue, and any day sprint is going to show me the door or refer me to Asurion for a 3 day old 600 dollar phone.

Screen issues

Anyone else noticing that they have any dark spots on there screen that are slightly dimmer than other spots?
BAMP
Okay, so I noticed that if I press on the screen a little harder than I should that it looks like the LCD under the glass is getting pressed down.
Is this something normal? I don't recall my fascinate ever having this problem? I mean.... yeah the fascinate had problems but not related to the screen.
I don't see this on my Bionic. But my wife's DroidX has an issue similar to what you're describing. It doesn't take much pressure at all, just a normal press on the screen and she gets what looks like an oil slick effect. Does that sound similar to your issue? I know it's off topic, but I was reading some reviews of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a lot of people are reporting an "oil slick" issue with the screen. So I'm wondering if they're all related and possibly a symptom of a particular screen design? I don't think the Tab uses a screen remotely similar to the Moto phones, but the symptoms seem very similar so perhaps they share some type of common design?
When not pressing it looks kind of like this,

While pressing while playing a game it looks like an oil slick or like color streaks where the LCD is healing itself. Although now super noticeable you can totally see that there are some dark spots in the middle of the screen after I have used it for the last few months.
If you have an image in your previous post, i'm not able to see it...but it sounds just like what my wife's droidX is doing...and the oil slick behavior from the galaxy tab. My wife's screen has been doing that for a few months now and I haven't seen any adverse effects, it just looks funny but works fine otherwise. I believe Samsung is taking back the affected tabs if there's a warranty claim...haven't tried pursuing the issue with my wife's phone tho.
Possibly some good news for you...I just looked at my wife's DroidX last night, and the "oil slick" is gone. Couldn't see it with the screen on or off. I even tried pushing down pretty firmly in the area it was and nothing. Hopefully it goes away for you.
No, it did not. I got a refurb, does the same thing. This one will be going back too.
That's it!
I am having the same issue with my Bionic. I already returned the first one and got a replacement. The replacement was a refurb, which irks me..anyway, this refurb has the same problem and Moto says all they can do is send me another refurb.
This is a serious issue and I bet it's on a lot of their phones. It's not easy to see, so many people probably haven't noticed.
I am really pissed and I'm think about just using insurance to buy a completely different phone instead.

So based on that and, what I would assume some other people as well, that there is probably a general affliction to the device. It could be inferred that it is only a matter of time before people start to realize that there are dark spots on the screen and start to complain.
mistawolfe are you still using the bionic or have you totally switched to the RAZR? Does this issue manifest itself the same was with the RAZR and the BIONIC?
I have the same issue with the LCD distortion when pressed. It was a lot worse with the screen protector on. Not too noticeable now that its off. I figure if I scratch the crap out of my screen I will just get a re-furb sent for the distortion issue...
I can't remember off the top of my head which forum i read this on but the dark spots are due to the construction and materials used to make the screen and isn't a defect at all. As for the "oil slick" effect, i can only imagine that to be an issue where the glass is thinner in certain spots and is actually pressing on the LCD, just like pressing on an LCD monitor.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Well I went through 3 different Bionics at this point and after a few weeks they all get these dark spots.
Have a replacement Rezound on the way to replace the Bionic. It's too bad that the Bionic, for me, has had so many small issues because it's a solid device with a lot of potential.
And the Rezound is also a turd.
First Verizon sends me a phone and a back cover and "forgot" the battery.
Then get the battery and power the damned thing on to find out I can't log into my google account because HTC "forgot" the ` backtick in the sense keyboard and also "forgot" that the stock android keyboard doesn't suck and doesn't take any effort to include.
I quit. There is obviously no winning.

This I found results from the phone incorrectly detecting the white balance.
It is easily fixed by pressing the picture button and holding it while your phone focuses and measures the shot. Then a second later release it and the results are a marked difference.
To those using any camera with a half and full press button this isn't a large surprise but with the trend to simple tap on smartphones I find this easily overlooked.
Thanks

He's a street dog. Someone found him as a pup in the rain and put him online. He's pretty mixed as a breed but has some hound in him. And much smaller than a mastiff :cyclops:
I didnt know about the hold focus either. I felt it wasnt obvious because the N4 unlike htc's and iphones doesnt do an instant photo. it does the shenanigan of focusing with the ring and all the jazz so one would assume it would measure its white balance then. Anyway you live and you learn

Oh just like the video says I am a total noob when it comes to android phones. I have always had iPhones from the first one to 5, and after it broke I thought I mix it up and got a lumia 920 (terrible experience I had no clue what I was doing) and that bought the Nexus 4. Welcome to the droid community. Once you get sucked in its hard to go back. I try using the i5 now and then. The lack of a back button and my app settings within a separate settings app really bug me.

GS4 owner just got a Nexus 5, and its great

The Nexus 5 looks big in pictures but is actually smaller than my galaxy s4 with a very thin case on the G4. And the Nexus doesn't need a case because the back is is rubbery and grippy, beautiful! Also, it feels absolutely premium in terms of build quality and materials.
The screen is brilliant, bar none the best I've ever seen. And better than my iPhone 5.
The camera shutter sound is very subtle, in fact I'll keep it on
The navigation keys are a lot closer so it's a lot easier to use one handed.
Speaker phone is awesome: loud and clear.
Needless to say the phone overall is as fast as all hell.
Nexus 5 screen is vastly easier to read in direct sunlight
Where does the Galaxy s4 beat the Nexus? So far all I've found is the speaker volume, which seems to be a little low when playing videos. That and the replaceable battery and memory card slot.
Its my first day with the Nexus 5, and so far, so good.
Just thought I'd give a little feedback for those of you who are on the fence about switching. I have both at the moment, but my S4 may soon be on Craigslist.
Hows the camera
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
I've only taken a hand full of photos, but so far the camera looks very good. Plenty of detail and great white balance.
I've been considering switching as well - but there's a few things that keep me on the fence. The S4 has AMOLED (which I prefer to IPS, but subjective) and removable battery/microsd. And the battery is larger on the S4.
But as the other user asked, how is the camera? Apparently it's not as good due to flawed software, but there IS image stabilization. Hmm...
When you put the Nexus 5 next to the galaxy s4 with both at full brightness , the Galaxy looks muted, fuzzy, dim. Take your phone to a Best Buy or Sprint store and have a look for yourself.
And here is one of my first few snapshots.

I just glanced at that thread and looks for the most part like people being super anal about non issues. But hey, if you get a bad one, send it back. Right?
meh...I was really into the phone at first and was considering selling my S4, but after reading a bunch of reviews and people's opinions on it...it seems meh and I'll just stick with the S4 for now. Went to the Nexus forums and nothing but fanboys in there jumping on anybody that says anything bad about the phone and trying to defend their purchase.

Anyway, here are a few more shots from the camera, and then I am off this topic. Good luck everyone.
And here are the few more snaps I shot with the Nexus.
The saturation is a bit over the top at default settings, but otherwise they look good to me.
I was thinking of selling my S4 for the nexus..until I seen a smaller battery. Specs mean nothing if it doesn't turn on.

Time will tell about the battery life. Some have said it's so so, and others have said it last for days between charges.
I might get the nexus. But with the wobbly buttons. Non removable battery and no Sim slot. Plus dead pixels and light leakage among other problems that's kind of scary for a phone that's just been release

[PSA] Your N5 May Turn Into a Gnex...

Mine did. Had it in my back pocket (stupid, I know, but I'm used to sticking my devices there), and next thing I knew, I had a bent n5 with backlight bleed galore. Seems this is a common problem with the iPhone, but unfortunately I expect to see more n5 users fall into my boat, as I was even being relatively careful to not put excessive weight on it while sitting (and I only weigh 160lb). Save yourself headaches and break any habits you have of putting things in your rear pockets now. :'(

Your everyday carry can get out of hand fast.
5 inch phone, wallet, keys, pen, headphones, knife, flashlight Some of us may carry guns depending on the country, license status , or occupation. You can hit the need for a "man purse/satchel" very quickly. Sometimes your pants have bigger back pockets so that's where it ends up.

Every time I see someone stick their phone in their back pocket, I give them a bewildered look. Then they ask me why I'm looking at them like that, and I reply, "You actually keep your phone in your back pocket? How can you stand that?"
Goodness gracious, that has to be a chore to sit on, and I've seen a many stories where phones have been broken by being sat on.
Sounds like a human error OP, not a manufacturing error. Nothing to go creating a thread about. Most of us know sitting on your phone is not very smart....

Back in the day, I used to carry my personal Cell Phone on my hip in a case along with my pager for my work and my Palm Pre PDA. I looked like a real Techno Geek for sure. These days, I carry my work phone on my hip only. My PDA and my cell are now one and I carry that in my front pocket. Heck...I get nervous when I bend forward to tie my shoes. But...I live in Canada eh? and carry my cell in my jacket pocket or shirt pocket most of the time now. I've very aware of it at all times as I do not want an accident to happen. Putting it in my back pocket and sitting on it makes me twitch just thinking of it!
Yeah, I never understood the reasoning behind putting a phone in your back pocket. I was always amazed to see someone pull a phone out of their back pocket and see it still turn on.
Something I'd never do though. If needs be I'll just carry a bag, TBH.

[Q] Slight warping on back?

Has anybody else experience any slight warping or denting on the back of the phone? My fiancé has an X and is careful with it and it also has a case. I was messing with the phone and removed the case the other day and noticed that there seemed to be slight warping on the back. My Razr M has a similar warping on it. Not sure if it's the battery heat or what. It's minor but I was just curious. I'll be upgrading to the X shortly.

I couldn't quite tell if he was being sarcastic, which is why I shot him a "Thanks". She is still under warranty since she only got it a little over a month ago so I'll shoot her the feedback I get here. I've attached two pictures. The original and then an edited photo highlighting the area in question. It's very slight and hard to see, but if I move my fingers over the upper left area on the back I can feel what I can only describe as a dent or slight warping. The right side in the same area feels smooth to the touch. There seems to be a speaker on the right side. Not sure if the two sides are slightly different because of this or not.

I couldn't quite tell if he was being sarcastic, which is why I shot him a "Thanks". She is still under warranty since she only got it a little over a month ago so I'll shoot her the feedback I get here. I will try seeing if I can get a decent picture of it. It's very slight. Hard to see, but if I move my fingers over the upper left area on the back I can feel what I can only describe as a dent or slight warping.

Hmmm, does the bump cause anything to malfunction? My thought is if it's not outright noticeable to you a warranty center could possibly overlook it. My fear here is that you send it back and they tell you they didn't notice anything. Anyway, I think you got what you needed.
I hope she gets her phone fixed!

Yeah she's experiencing absolutely no malfunction. She's loving the device. I've known I wanted an X the moment it was released so hopefully I can grab mine in the near future. I have no doubt that it would be highly possible for them to not notice anything if she sent it back. It's just my nitpicking and curiosity that let me to post the question here.

I wasn't being sarcastic, just eliminating the obvious first. Like the other guy said, never assume someone knows something.
I haven't seen that on an X before, but my experience with battery warping has been closer to the center of the device/battery rather than on one side or a corner. Not sure what would cause that, but I'm not terribly familiar with what's located where under the back this phone. There's got to be a teardown somewhere, though.
Oh, and not to nitpick, but "he" is a "she."

Ahh! Your avatar being upside down is my excuse. And thanks to both of you for the feedback!
