[Q] HTC One not connecting to HTC Sync Manager (Win 7/64 bit) - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
since yesterday I finally got my new HTC One for replacing my HTC Desire HD.
The phone itself is great to work with.
Unfortunately I can not get it to sync with the HTC Sync Manager and my MS Outlook 2010. Although the tool claims to do exactly that. This feature is very important for me.
Got in contact with HTC helpdesk many times but it seems they can not really help me.
I have done almost everything possible (deinstall all HTC items, reinstall them all about 30 times now, remove drivers, root hubs, deactivated viusscanners, ...) but still it is not getting to work.
The last situation I have now :
I installed HTC Sync Manager V2.0.59.0 from their site. When this is installed, the top items "Files" and "More" are greyed out. There's also no place to start any syncing.
***** Sorry, can not show picture as I do not have 10 items yet on the forum ****
When I connect the HTC One phone, a lot of drivers are getting installed.
Unfortunately, nothing happens next.
One thing the HTC helpdesk told me, is to activate the USB Network setting to "Internet pass-through". If I do this and connect the HTC One to my PC, it takes quite some time before it finally gives following screen :
***** Sorry, can not show picture as I do not have 10 items yet on the forum ****
"Either you do not have the latest version of HTC Sync installed on your PC, or another phone is already using internet pass-through on your PC. Please ensure that you have the latest version of HTC Sync and unplug any other phones from your PC".
It is very strange it is talking about HTC Sync and not HTC Sync Manager...
I have no other phone connected.
If I look in the "ALL programs" part of the HTC One, it is showing HTC Sync but with a size of 0 bytes. I can also not clean the cache like is stated by HTC helpdesk.
Can somebody help me in getting this to work for me ?
Greetings and thanks a million for any help.
Davy

Have you turned on usb debugging

Frankly, HTC's Sync Manager is pants. It's been updated so many times lately, I suspect there's an underlying problem with it.
The Original HTC Sync that I used with my Wildfire S worked fine. I then went on to Sync Manager with my One S and it's been a pain ever since.
On the first update, InstallShield deleted old driver files then stalled. I had to go back with System Restore, grab the driver files and save them separately before re-installing.
Yet again, only today, I updated with the new release, which appeared to install fine, but on first run to update Contacts, it froze solid at 30%.
If you can't clean up everything by totally un-installing with, say, Revo Uninstaller on its deepest setting, then possibly following up with CCleaner and installing Sync Manager from scratch again, then forget it and just cut and paste direct from Outlook.

Sync Install and Uninstall problems

Happy New year to everybody...
Mine has started off bad, I just returned from my X-mas/New year break and I can no longer sync, install or uninstall programs ?
when I connect my PDA to the PC it sees it, but it can't sync, if I go to remove/add programs it shows empty nothing installed.
I can even brows the PDA but I can't copy files to or from it?
I'm lost, can anyone help me out on this I really don't want to do a hard reset.
Thanks.
Anyone.........?
tryed to reinstall active-sync?
did you installed some program has to do with network (kind of ftp-server or something else that uses some ports in you network-config)
i had the problem with filezilla ftp-server, using port 990 for ssl-authentification.
the problem was, active-sync also uses this port, but filezilla starting as service was bound to this, so AS could not work.

Hi Edi, No I haven't installed anything, but I think my problem might be something else (worse), I just realised that I can no longer copy move or delete files from either the PDA or the MC, I get an "access is denied" error.
Anyone have any idea what might have caused this? and better still, is there a fix.
I seem to be repeating myself lately with this answer, so I apologise if it seems down-right obvious, but have you ensured you have the latest version of ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre?
The reason I ask this is because I too was experiencing Sync problems using WMDV, but realised I didn't have the latest version (it doesn't automatically update with Windows Update, WTF?). Windows Mobile 6 is obviously programmed slightly different from revious versions, so updating Sync software is a simple step that's often missed...

Hi Audio,
Thanks for the reply, but I do have the latest version and I never had a problem with it until this week.
Just so i can try and help, what is it you are using Dave? AS or WMDV?

Hi Audio, I use both, AS at work and WMDV at home, both used to work fine.
And do you experience the issue on both?
EDIT: Apparently, there may be a problem with ActiveSync 4.5. Just take a look at this list of complaints about it lol.
One user stated:
"I was using AS4.2 with my ETen M700, everything was fine. I wanted to upgrade to WM6 and teh instructions said I needed to use AS4.5 I installed it and tried to connect my device - disaster! The rapimgr.exe process runs at 99% and slows the computer to a crawl.
After 3 attempts, I uninstalled it, and re-installed AS4.2 (available from www.microsoft.com) and now things are working again. "
This may be worth doing to see if this soilves your problem...

Yes I have tried it on three different machines, I can see the PDA but it won't sync or let me move or copy files.
It look like I might have to do a hard reset, but I'm hoping not
Also, a chap on a premium (you have to pay for support!) site said the following, which seems slightly similar:
"I've been using ActiveSync for a while now to sync outlook up to my motorola q. For some strange reason it's stopped working. The connection takes place, you get the little signal saying that ActiveSync picks up on it, the "Connecting" message, followed by the "Synchronizing" message... and nothing. It just hangs there. I've reinstalled ActiveSync and Outlook and did a hard reset on the phone. I'm convinced the issue is with the desktop, if I take the same PDA home, I'm able to sync up with my PC there. Does anyone know what happens during the Synchronizing phase and what could be possibly causing it to hang? ActiveSync 4.5 is a new beast, solutions to the older versions don't seem to apply.
If I hit the Stop button, ActiveSync hangs on the "Stopping" message and ActiveSync on the phone becomes unresponsive until I unplug the cable."
So even a Hard reset didn't solve this guys problems...
I would recommend uninstalling AS 4.5 from your machine, and installing 4.2. Reason being, i believe you need your phone connected to the computer when you install syncing software, so it more than likely "fiddles" with some very well hidden settings on the device. If this is the case, 4.5 may have [email protected] it up, but 4.2 may be your savior.
If you decide to give it a go, let us know how it goes...

Hi Audio, I don't know what to do, I started another thread about no longer being able to either copy, move, delete, install or uninstall anything, I really don't think it's a sync problem anymore. I will wait another day or so and then I'm going clear storage and start again.
what really pisses me off is my wife has no problems at all? perhaps my PDA is ******.
Exactly the same has just happened to me - I tried to connect to ActiveSync this morning to copy a file across via bluetooth, but it refused to connect. I plugged in the USB cable, nothing - the phone charges but ActiveSync does not want to know.
I deleted the device in AS, tried to add a new one - nothing found.
I last sync'd up fine 4 days ago.
I am using Dutty's DualTouch v1.1 release.
I am using AS 4.5.0 build 5096
If I discover services via BT from the kaiser to the computer it finds the ActiveSync service.
I have done a soft reset, no difference, restarted the PC, same. I haven't applied any Windows Updates or made any changes since it stopped working.
I might try rolling back to AS 4.2
Edit: Same with AS4.2
Think it might be clear storage time
Cleared storage and then it worked fine...will take the opportunity to upgrade to dualtouch v2
Hi Blaze, damn it's annoying isn't it, my next move is clear storage as well.
Hope mine works again.
It's bloody happened again I reflashed the rom with Duty's Dual Touch V2. Much better rom, but activesync has just given up again via BT and usb. Maybe it's some inherent problem with WM, or with Duty's roms - which are you using Dave?
I've tried it on a fresh build of XP Pro on an old machine with nothing than AS & Outlook 2k3 on - same, AS sees the device, but wont sink. Problem seems with the device...

Good Point I didn't even notice, put it down to stress...
PS: For anyone who's interested, I ended up doing a hard reset, reinstalled my apps, restored my backups and it's working fine now.
Did you have F-secure Mobile installed? If not, I could take that away from possibilities that's causing this problem

USB Issue.

Hello there,
I've been searching around the internet now for about 3 hours to no avail, I have even resorted to emailing HTC for help. Thats how desperate I am.
I have a MDA Vario III (HTC TYTN 2) that has worked flawlessly for a long time (since christmas) but has suddenly stopped communicating with Activesync.
Im not bothered about syncing contacts etc, all i want to do is use the file browser to download and upload photos etc.
I have tried all the suggestions i have found so far (enabling adanced network functionality, disabling it, reinstalling Activesync etc.) to no working answer.
Can anyone help me?
raty
Not sure if you tried this or not. Delete your existing partnership and then reconnect it. Good luck. Activesync sux.
Hey,
I've deleted the partnerships off my vario3, and completly reinstalled activesync. Still didnt work.
Ive taken the phone into the T-mobile shop i bought it from, they seem a little too keen to send it off for repairs, maybe this is turning into more of a regular thing that i thought?
Kept onto the phone just for now, I wnt to try and fix it before i send it off.
Uh... why send it off if you fix it?
read through this thread and look at post #10 and see if your computer is detecting the device at all..
also try removing your simcard and microSD card and connect your device to your pc in bootloader mode and see if it says USB on the bottom.

It's probably the Notification queues have lost their active sync bits
use Pocket IE or Opera (mobile) to download and install something like MemMaid or SKTools
you can then add the Active Sync components back into the notification queues, and then rebuild them
Once done you should be able to sync etc
notification queues! What is that?
First I ever heard of that. I am having active sync issues as well and I have tried everything in this post.
Nothing works, it connected a few nights ago and it all of a sudden stayed connected all night. I am Back to having problems again.
Does anyone know if avast will hurt active sync?
here is your answer...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362679
read thorugh EVERY LINK and you should be good
ive read through those links and none of them have a fix for me.
The computer recognises my phone, in device manager it comes up under Windows CE USB Devices as HTC USB Sync.
i shall try the bootloader idea and report back.
@Kimtyson- if i fix it i wont be sending it off, that would be obsurd
@pjwilkin- i have never come across that before while reading about the titan, fancy sharing some knowledge?
Just got my phone into bootloader (thanks wiki) and when the usb cable is connected it says USB and the computer starts to install drivers etc.
***bump***
sorry thats not proper foru etiquet but im desperate for som answers
Some further things to try
Can you connect via Activesync using Bluetooth? What about on other PCs and on other USB ports on your PC? What happens if you delete that HTC USB Sync listing in device manager, unplug the phone, reboot the PC and then reinstall Activesync 4.5 (I use the CDROM the phone came with the phone for that)? See if you can get the phone shop to plug it into one of their PCs with Activesync or WMDC.If it's showing up in your PCs device manager then it's likely some sort of problem/configuration issue with your desktop PC it's connecting to - not a problem with the phone itself.
this has happened to me ..
i vote for changing usb ports..
you probly already did so..
please post when you fix it..

[Q] Has anyone tried to use HTC Sync?

I cannot get my new HTC Vivid (4 hours old) to sync with my PC. I downloaded and installed the latest HTC Sync file from this site. I opened the HTC Sync and got a screen that said no device was connected. I plugged the USB cord into the PC and into the Vivid. I responded to the screen by selecting the HTC Sync option. A screen displayed saying that the unit was synchronizing. While this was going on, the Vivid went to sleep. When I started it up again, the screen said the sync was disconnected. Since then, I have tried several times to make a connection and I always get a message on the Vvid that it cannot find HTC Sync on the PC even though it is running. If I cannot sync to my PC, the Vivid goes back to AT&T.
Works fine for me man. Reboot your comp. Often the driver won't take first round.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
I had tried rebooting once, but I did it again. Still got the message from the Vivd that it could not find HTC Sync. Then several minutes later, I looked at the screen and the HTC Sync program was sitting there waiting for me to enter my device name and configure the settings. I must have been closing the program too soon, assuming it was not working. Unfortunately, it does not appear to be able to sync my Outlook tasks or notes, only my calendar and contacts. And somehow, I have each contact twice. Oh, well. Thanks for your response.
Download HTC Sync
Try using the download link here: http://www.htc.com/www/help/
I had problems myself but after installing the universal version of sync, my computer automatically detected the Vidid. Of course a reboot was needed Good luck.

HTC Sync Not Working

After I updated to the latest version of HTC Sync (3.0.5617) I can no longer sync my calendar and contacts with my PC. I could sync with the previous version. My Vivd is stock. I uninstalled Sync, including the driver, and re-installed the software. After restarting both my PC and the Vivid, I got the two to connect. I was able to create a device name, but I was not able to set up or turn on any categories. As a result, Sync would not let me sync. I unmounted the Vivid and turned off Sync. when I restarted Sync and plugged in the Vivid, I got the "could not find Sync on your PC" message.
I have sent an e-mail to HTC, but I have not yet heard from them. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you solve it?
PS: Why is there no search capability today? When I logged in, I could not find the search feature in any forum that I checked.
Reply to HTC
I had sent HTC an email about the problem. They responded, asking for additional information. Here is my reply:
I am using the latest version of HTC Sync - 3.0.5617 (I believe that is the number. I am trying to recall it from memory.) I am using Outlook 2007. The error message appeared on my HTC Vivid, saying that HTC Sync could not be found or was not running on my PC. In fact, Sync was running on my PC because the dialog was right in front of me. Please note that I did not have these problems with the previous version of HTC Sync.
After several failed attempts to get Sync and Vivid to recongize each other, I had uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of HTC sync, also uninstalling the USB driver, which was reinstalled. When I started Sync and plugged in the Vivid, several minutes passed, then a screen displayed asking for a name for my device. I entered a name and was taken to the overview screen. However, all the options were disabled. If I clicked on the Sync button, I got the message that no categlories were turned on or enabled. Of course, I could not turn any on because all the categories were disabled. I dismounted the Vivid and closed Sync. When I restarted Sync and plugged in the Vivid again, I got the same error message that the Vivid could not find Sync on my PC. I also had Outlook running.
After several more failed attempts to get Sync and Vivid to recongize each other, I had turned on my WiFi connection to check something on the internet. (My Vivid was connected to the PC via the USB cable.) I decided to try again. This time, the Vivid displayed a message saying that I was connected. The HTC Sync dialog on the PC still showed that no connection had occurred. I tapped on the Sync Now button. After the Vivid displayed a message that syncing was complete, the PC side then finally recognized my Vivid and displayed the overview screen. However, when I clicked on the Sync button, I again got the message that no categories had been turned on. But this time, I was able to access the Calendar and Contacts categories and click on the button to enable syncing. After that I was able to sync.
Now, you may consider the issue resolved because I was able to sync my Vivid with Outlook on my PC. However, I do not consider the matter closed at all. I spent several hours trying to get your updated program to work as the older version had worked. As a software developer (medical software for doctors), I do not consider the problems with your software acceptable.

[Q] HTC One Drivers....

Hi All,
Had my HTC One delivered first thing this morning (ordered yesterday @ P4U and arrived in Saturday post so mucho chuffed with them) but I have a problem with connecting the device to my laptop.
I'm transferring across from an iPhone and therefore need HTC Sync to do the full transfer of everything to the new device.
Downloaded HTC Sync Manager and connected the phone. The phone show "USB connected" and "USB Debugging Connected" across the banner at the top but then on my laptop it asks to install the driver. Windows is unable to find automatically and when I manually set the drive location as per the HTC Sync Manager install drivers folder it say it cant install the driver.
I've trawled the net but can't really find anything that solves the problem. Called HTC and they weren't much help to be honest and said to just try uninstalling and re-installing HTC Sync Manager (which I've already done 3 times!!!) :fingers-crossed:
Can anybody help? Really dont want to regret changing from an iPhone but after 3 hours and still not being able to connect the blooming phone to get it up and running so I can have a proper play I'm beginning to lose faith
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hmm, reboot laptop, tried different usb port, you sure usb debugging is enabled? try unchecking fastboot in power options?
Have you tried disabling the debugging

What message do you get installing the driver? And what OS?
For the drivers on the galaxy nexus toolkit on windows 8 you had to boot into a special recovery mode to disable driver verification before they would install... maybe you're seeing something similar?
Thanks for the replies guys. In the end I gave up with my laptop after trying to connect an external hard drive that I'd used in the past and that failed to configure the drivers too...grrrr!!
Ended up borrowing my parents laptap and not surprisingly the phone connected first time. Still took me around 12 hours to copy all the music (using home share) in iTunes to get my music across to my parents laptop. Long hard slog but after a couple of days usage, 100% sure I made the right decision to convert!
HTC sync manager is buggy with windows 8 if that helps...

Don't rely on checking for having the latest version of HTC sync using the "Check Updates" from the HTC sync software on your PC. It's not accurate.
Go to: https://support.htc.com/alerts_downloads/en/HTC_Sync_for_all_HTC_Android_Phones
That resolved the issue of my HTC One not being able to connect to my PC.
Hope this helps.
I for ONE have always had issues with HTC drivers and Bluetooth. In my experience their Bluetooth kinda got a little shoty after dual core devices came out but has improved with the ONE. As for drivers been trying to get my device to properly install all day... Windows 7 sync is annoyingly automated and ADB crashes about every thirty minutes with it sometimes less...
Windows xp recognizes my ONE as a camera! Lol my win7 machine reads it just fine. Lol. How do i get it to read normal? Btw, im installimg htc sync right now.
i finally got my one to work on xp by uninstalling HTC sync, installing windows media player and disabling USB debugging then it was recognized after searching the net for time nothing came up till i read multiple forums and added the info together. cheers
