Maybe i forgot to tell you, until I push my sources to phil, try compiling with custom touch driver sources to get the touch interface working.

cm 10.1
plz port for us cm 10!N5100 :crying:

Is it possible to get a signed zip? I have a recovery installed, just not the CWM or TWRP (it is the stock one).

Flash this with odin, I doubt the touch will work properly. Even though, N5110 users try it.

Looks like ill wait till mine arrives and then debug alot. A question, does it not work at all? Or does it register them wrong?
EDIT: talking about the touch input

It register them wrong, if you look at it like a portrait mode recovery the buttons are situated for that kind of recovery.
example: pressing top right corner (landscape mode) is pressing the return button, so it is way off. But it is this way in all touch recovery's for now on this tablet. Not a real problem not having touch, for me the efs is more important.
It is the same with the aroma installer touch driver, it is way off so you need to use the hardware buttons.

This device is more of a hybrid, half of the time its acting like a tablet and other times like a phone. Ill build one for portrait now and upload in a few
---------- Update ----------
Test2. flash with odin.
1. If recovery is portrait, touch issues should be resolved
2. EFS backup should now be fixed

Still in landscape so touch is still off and efs backup still doesn't work.

think ill just use ameer's script to backup everything via recovery. and about recovery being portrait, i have one more thing i can try, ill do that tomorrow. for now ill just update kernels to .79

bump?
anyone knows if there's a chance for working PhilZ in foreseeable future?

can I use this recovery instead of CWM or TWRP, flashing your ROM - CivZ-FLEXBEAM-4.2.2-Rev1.5?
on OP instruction on your ROM, it says "Install with CWM or TWRP", I am not sure if PhilZ touch works too?

I don't see why not since it is based on CWM advanced edition.

Yes it works with stock 4.1.2 but if you're on stock recovery, then you have to flash this with odin because you can't flash a custom recovery with a stock recovery. If you already have a custom recovery, then you can flash this with that, but I assume you're still on stock recovery. So:
1. You need a computer with odin and proper samsung drivers installed
2. Download the right GT-N5110 .tar file from this thread
3. Go to download mode and open odin
4. Make sure you have F.Reset time and Auto-reboot checked
5. Click on PDA and choose the .tar file and then flash it
And you're done

What kernel to choose:
The important part is the Kernel code:
XWLPX-NEE
Kernel code is in red (LPX), for this example, you need an LPX ROM. However, often, you can mix kernels when they are close: LPF kernel with LPG ROM...
NEE code doesn't matter at all, I add it for reference. It is the CSC
XW: mixed, often doesn't matter for close regions. For example, XW and XX are often interchangeable. However, mixing a BU with an XW ROM or inversly, sometimes works, but often ends in a bootloop. In that case, either boot into recovery or download mode to reflash
Using the new MULTI-bootanimation feature ** v2.5 and later **
This is an original feature I introduced. Now you can put all your bootanimations on the phone. On each boot, it will play a different animation from your list.
If you do not install any bootanimation, the stock Samsung animation will play. Also, you can go with the old method of putting only one bootanimation.zip(bin) and it will play only that one. If you decide to go through the MULTI-bootanimations looper, follow below instructions:
name your bootanimations as follow: bootanimation1.zip(bin), bootanimation2.zip(bin)... bootanimationN.zip(bin)
put the zip files in "/data/local" or in "/system/media" folder. The bin animations must go into "/data/local"
reboot, and now, on each boot, it will magically scroll through your animations
priority is to "/data/local/bootanimation*.bin", then "/data/local/bootanimation*.zip" and finally "/system/media/bootanimation*.zip"
info: animation number to play on next boot is stored in "/data/local/bootanimation-loop.txt". If you delete some animations, you should also delete the "bootanimation-loop.txt". It will be reset on next boot. If not, stock Samsung anim could play if loop.txt contains a bigger number than your actual files. In that case, your playlist will be ignored until you delete the loop txt file.
FAQ
These are the top 5 posted questions
Can you implement overclock, voltage control, voodoo, special drivers... ?
This is a stock kernel, not recompiled from source. It is only repacked with changes in ramdisk to add new features and an enhanced cwm based recovery. I do not have plans to start building kernels from source. There are big names in the scene already doing a great job there.
Why I can't see your kernel version Phone / About dialog ?
That's how stock kernels behave. Version info is in build.prop and comes with the ROM. I can add it but won't as it is that way that stock kernels are supposed to work.
You can know the exact kernel version by typing in terminal: getprop
Also, in my recovery, there is an About dialog to give you more info about actual recovery which is also tight to kernel
Why your kernel drains more battery ?
It cannot be. It will act like stock kernel, not better, not worst
Does your kernel perform better than stock ?
Same answer as previous
Why sometimes I need to touch twice to validate an option in recovery ?
This is by design and not a bug. A special feature I added is the option to highlight/validate touched menu. After you scroll in a menu, your first touch will act as select without validation. This is to avoid any false validation during scroll, the worst limitation for many of the actual touch recoveries including original one
Will you implement exFAT support in recovery ?
It is done now, but only for JB as it supports exFat

You found a bug and want to report it:
Before posting about bugs concerning bootloops, kernel not working or recovery issues, please keep this in mind:
this is a pure stock kernel, kernel is just same as stock, except binary patching MMC_CAP_ERASE
if you have issues such as bootloop, first, try to flash the original stock zImage to see if you still have same issues as with my kernel
some custom kernels do not update your build.prop, it is the case with my kernel, as it is a stock kernel. I can add it, but won't for many specific reasons. You can flash a LR9 kernel on a LRT ROM, you will still see LRT in your phone/about. That's also true if you flash a Samsung genuine kernel on a different ROM. So, if you flashed many kernels before, be sure to know on what ROM you are and check potential compatibility issues between kernels in post 2

Make sure your issue is recovery related
All external sdcard issues: first format in PC with primary partition, tons of people are formatting as logical and come cry
Reproduce your issue and while in recovery:

Copy the /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log and attach it here
Give detailed info about your issues

Recovery (.zip) packages instructions - Will also root your phone * recommanded method *
They come in the form of -signed.zip files that can be flashed in stock recovery 3e: No Yellow Triangle
Download xxx-signed.zip kernel matching your ROM
Put the previously downloaded xxx-signed.zip file on your external sd card
Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power)
Select "apply update from external storage".
Now select the xxx-signed.zip file you copied in previous step
You are rooted + new PhilZ-cwm6 kernel with CWM6
Odin packages instructions: ready for root
They come in the form of .tar.md5 file
boot into download mode
start odin3 and configure it as in picture below
connect phone in download mode to PC via USB
press start to flash the tar.md5 package
to root, download the root file from here (Method 1) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794

- Simplistic ROM boot animation
- AOKP boot animation
download one of the two bootanimations (the simplistic one is worth it)
extract the rar contents : bootanimation.zip file, do not extract the zip file
put the bootanimation.zip file in your /system/media or /data/local folder
on reboot, you get the new animation.
to reset to samsung animation, just delete the bootanimation.zip

Request & Reporting
Request :
If your kernel is not listed above, OR you want to request when new ROM released, post your request with
ROM build version, CSC code as well better if you port zImage file and upload. this will make easy for developer.
Whatever request i see, will update here to this post so Phill can easily locate it. So before posting request, make sure this post doesn't have pending request already for kernel you are looking for.
Pending Request
Report :
As we know this kernel is pure stock kernel + patched mmc earse command + edit Ramdisk
so, posting regarding score(card)of ubuntoo (watever it call ) or quadrant score have nothing to do. Battery management/performance will same as on stock kernel.
Again input battery statistics or comparing with other custom kernel having no meaning. B'coz this is stock kernel and it will be same as stock kernel, no more no less. So kindly avoid such kind of discuss. Right now Phill have not indicate to add tweak to kernel, so no meaning to put request for under/overclocking and so and so. For this you always have choice for custom kernel, there are already nice custom kernels are available on development section. This is only for people want pure stock kernel but patched brick bug with added recovery function. That's it.
Please don't ask/describe here anything which is not related to this kernel. such posting will be consider offending and will be reported to moderator, which i don't like really.
Hope we never need moderator to look into this thread.
Thanks for co operation and Wish you happy flashing.

It will work on any custom ROM that supports a stock kernel
This is basically a stock kernel
If you move from DDLR9 to PhilZ-cwm6 DDLR9, then no need to wipe /cache or dalvik. Kernel is same, only patched + edit RAMdisk for features

Why a temporary recovery?
Wipe safely on a stock kernel
Will work on any i9100 phone with ICS, even stock non rooted
No PC needed, only and android device and the zip files that you download to your sd card
Fully reversible after reboot
No Yellow Triangle and No custom counter increased
Incremental Backups to save a lot of space and time (CWM6)
Much better user interface, bigger menus, smoother scroll, safer touch, works with both touch and keys

Flashing instructions for stock recovery
Download philz-touch_x.xx_n7000-signed.zip, the last philz touch cwm v6.x for n7000 Galaxy Note. This version works with touch AND with keys to scroll in menus
Put the previously downloaded philz-touch_x.xx_n7000-signed.zip file on your external sd card
Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power), and select "apply update from external storage". Now select the philz-touch_x.xx_n7000-signed.zip file you copied in previous step
You get CWM recovery interface (this custom recovery is temporary, not permanent)

If it fails with black screen after successful flash:
read about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32785650&postcount=33
It is because their recovery is not automatically restarted once killed
You can manually edit the file /sbin/killrecovery.sh in the temporary recovery zip package and modify it by adding the extra 2 lines before the #...
(make sure you edit it in something like notepad++ with EOL conversion set to unix)
so that it looks like below:
Code:
kill $(ps | grep /sbin/adbd)
kill $(ps | grep /sbin/recovery)
/sbin/recovery &
exit 1

If you do not know what you do, do not download this
It can brick your phone, do not take me responsible
Until it is confirmed, never flash update.zip files if not on a safe kernel
Safe kernels for the Note are, among others, PhilZ-cwm6, Hydracore, CM9/10 and AOKP...
The issue:
I personally do not see harm having a temporary recovery, but in practice, to flash a ROM in recovery, you are strongly recommended to have a safe kernel. Since most safe kernels come with a cwm recovery, the temporary one is now useless, and even risky as people can wrongly think they are safe
To super brick a phone when wiping in recovery, you need 3 conditions and all 3 must be true:
1 - unsafe kernel
2 - bad chipset
3 - unsafe recovery
Click to collapse
When flashing update.zip files, the conditions are:
1 - unsafe kernel
2 - bad chipset
3 - format command in update.zip file with unsafe binary-update
Click to collapse
So, when flashing update.zip files (mainly some custom ROMs), even on safe recovery you can still brick your phone if you are on an unsafe kernel
This was confirmed by Elite Recognized Develope Entropy512
So, do not flash update.zip files in this one if you do not know what you do. YOU ARE WARNED
Do not come crying I am responsible about bricking your phone
Hmmmm still i would like to try it with the risk involved in it

I am really not sure if it is risky or not.
I would open the thread again if this point is clarified:

1 - unsafe kernel
2 - bad chipset
3 - unsafe recovery
This is true when you wipe in recovery
Now, lately, came the binary-update story when you flash update.zip files with format commands
So, is that a 4th needed condition or something that will brick your phone if conditions 1 + 2 are true, what ever condition 3 is
Condition 3 would be:
3 - unsafe recovery AND / OR ???? unsafe update-binary

it is possible to have this in not temporary but permently ?
Yes, but you need the whole kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
I think the best use of this temp recovery, is for stock ROM devices.
As far as I know, after booting into this temp recovery, I'd just flash a safe kernel (like PhilZ 2.7), and do boot to recovery again.
Then you'll have safe kernel and recovery for wiping and flashing....

No, PhilZ-cwm6 in zip package can be flashed directly in stock recovery bypassing signature check, no yellow triangle or anything like that
I add odin packages as sometimes they come handy when you loose recovery access (like in my case when playing with them too much)

[DEV][WIP] TWRP 2.4.4.0 - recovery

TeamWinRecoveryProject
Changelogs from last Release from Shaaan to mine
Code:
[B]2.4.4.0[/B]
* Added another libtar hardlink workaround to fix restore of some backups (usually related to Ubuntu Touch)
* More fixes for the file selector
* Switched from using busybox md5sum to a direct C function call
* Fixed capturing the exit status of tar based backups/restore - TWRP will display that there was an error if there was one again
* Update exFAT to latest commits
* Added a build flag to disable using the ioctl for screen blanking
[B]2.4.3.0[/B]
* Fixed 2 bugs related to restore, one dealing with mknod failures (by bigbiff) and one dealing with restoring hardlinks (by Dees_Troy)
NOTE: If your backups weren't restoring correctly in earlier 2.4.x versions they should restore correctly now. Hopefully you didn't delete those backups. If you're still having problems, run the restore, go to advanced and copy log, then give us the log. Complaints without logs will be rightfully ignored.
* Added a scroll bar to file selectors and listboxes courtesy of Tassadar
* Added libblkid for more accurate detection of file systems and can now detect exFAT properly thanks to bigbiff
* Added a screen dim effect 2 seconds before screen off on some devices
* Finally fixed file selector crash (one of the joys of working with multi-threaded software)
* Fixed loading of screen timeout setting during startup
* Improvements and bugfixes to screen timeout code
* Fixed persistence of the 24 hour / military time setting
[B]2.4.2.0[/B]
* Add screen timeout - screen will turn off automatically after 60 seconds, saves battery and prevents screen burn-in especially on AMOLED devices
* Add a brightness setting (requires device specific setup and only some devices have been added)
* Add a root checker and offer to install SuperSU if the device isn't already rooted
* Add a write buffer to libtar backups, significant improvements to speeds when backing up to exFAT target, minor improvements for other file systems
* Check and offer to fix root permissions if broken
* Add an option for a 24 hour clock display instead of AM/PM (aka military time)
* Move stock recovery reflash check to occur during the reboot cycle
* Add support for some MTK6xxx devices
* Change libtar to vfork to help prevent memory problems
* Add a "clicked" effect to most buttons, file selector, and listbox
* Improve timezone listbox to be more like file selector (per pixel kinetic scrolling, etc)
* Remove some no longer used settings (Forced MD5 sum on zips, size checking on image backups)
* Other minor bugfixes and improvements
[B]2.4.1.0:[/B]
* Fixed a problem with mkdosfs that formatted sdcards to 2GB
* Fixed handoff between vfat and exFAT on devices where blkid didn't detect vfat (fixes some issues with mounting sdcards)
* Fixed problems with changing working directory on MD5 creation/checking that may have prevented unmounting
* Backups will now store a copy of the backup log after the backup is completed (only if backup is successful)
[B]2.4.0.0:[/B]
* Using libtar instead of busybox's tar for better control over tar file creation and breaking the 2GB barrier that busybox imposes (thanks to bigbiff)
* Support for exFAT formatted sdcards (also thanks to bigbiff)
* Support for decrypting Samsung TouchWiz encrypted devices including internal and external storage (special thanks to a3955269 for figuring it out)
* Improvements to OpenRecoveryScript including displaying a proper GUI while the script is running
* Added wipe cache and dalvik after ADB Sideload
* Replaced many system calls with their native C counterparts
* Fixed bugs in file manager where it would display an empty list after moving or deleting a folder
* Fixed AOSP recovery commands to run after decryption on encrypted devices
* Improvements for building TWRP in CM10.1
* Other minor bugfixes and improvements
[B]2.3.3.0:[/B]
* Fix renaming backups with a space in the name
* Add decrypt button to mount page if you cancel decryption during startup
* Added ignore blkid flag
* Fixed handling of MTD partitions during mount
* Fixed some keyboard mapping issues on 800x1280 layout
[B]2.3.2.0:[/B]
* Fixes / enhancements to handle the multiple user setup introduced by Android 4.2 (see notes)
* Fixed a bug with deleting a backup with a space in the name
* Added highlights on keyboard key presses
[B]2.3.1.0:[/B]
* Unmount system after boot to prevent some status 7 symlink failed errors on zip install
* USB Mass Storage code improvements
* Better handling of mounting storage during boot for some devices
* Fixed a problem with sizes of images (boot & recovery) after resetting defaults
* Fixed size errors during backup for some devices on recovery, etc.
* Fixed a problem with restoring backups when multiple archives were present
[B]2.3.0.0:[/B]
* Rebased onto AOSP Jelly Bean source code
* Rewrote backup, restore, wipe, and mount code in C++ classes for easier maintenance going forward
NOTE: backups from prior versions of TWRP are still compatible with 2.3
* ADB sideload functionality from AOSP is included in 2.3, see this link for more info
* Re-wrote fix permissions entirely in C++ and runs in a few seconds instead of a few minutes (thanks to bigbiff)
* Improvements to zip finding in OpenRecoveryScript (should be a lot fewer GooManager automation issues)
* Faster boot times
* Added charging indicator while in recovery (only updates once every 60 seconds)
Issues
Code:
* Maybe your USB in recovery will be broken (so no mount storage to pc)
!!!It can happen that you brick your Device any other time, but this time NOT, when you flash this!!!

Read this thread before asking any question bro .... here is everythng explained . see above there is deatailed explanation of its feature .
Would like some help asap. So i installed the Philz recovery. Took a nandroid backup. And then choose the option clean to install a new Rom. Cleaned dalai cache. The man flashed the new Rom. And then a bootloop occurred with a new Rom. This is quite common to me so tried different combinations to access the recovery. And think I found it, it is volume up and power button. But when I click them instead of going to the recovery unfortunately it goes to bootlogo till a press these keys I notice the bootloop occurs otherwise it just opens and shows the bootlogo. Any help? I have the nandroid backup in the SD card. But since am not able to access the recovery am not able to do anything as of now. So what should i do? Push through add? Would be happy if you could help me.
