What kernel to choose:
The important part is the Kernel code:
XWLPX-NEE
Kernel code is in red (LPX), for this example, you need an LPX ROM. However, often, you can mix kernels when they are close: LPF kernel with LPG ROM...
NEE code doesn't matter at all, I add it for reference. It is the CSC
XW: mixed, often doesn't matter for close regions. For example, XW and XX are often interchangeable. However, mixing a BU with an XW ROM or inversly, sometimes works, but often ends in a bootloop. In that case, either boot into recovery or download mode to reflash
Using the new MULTI-bootanimation feature ** v2.5 and later **
This is an original feature I introduced. Now you can put all your bootanimations on the phone. On each boot, it will play a different animation from your list.
If you do not install any bootanimation, the stock Samsung animation will play. Also, you can go with the old method of putting only one bootanimation.zip(bin) and it will play only that one. If you decide to go through the MULTI-bootanimations looper, follow below instructions:
name your bootanimations as follow: bootanimation1.zip(bin), bootanimation2.zip(bin)... bootanimationN.zip(bin)
put the zip files in "/data/local" or in "/system/media" folder. The bin animations must go into "/data/local"
reboot, and now, on each boot, it will magically scroll through your animations
priority is to "/data/local/bootanimation*.bin", then "/data/local/bootanimation*.zip" and finally "/system/media/bootanimation*.zip"
info: animation number to play on next boot is stored in "/data/local/bootanimation-loop.txt". If you delete some animations, you should also delete the "bootanimation-loop.txt". It will be reset on next boot. If not, stock Samsung anim could play if loop.txt contains a bigger number than your actual files. In that case, your playlist will be ignored until you delete the loop txt file.
FAQ
These are the top 5 posted questions
Can you implement overclock, voltage control, voodoo, special drivers... ?
This is a stock kernel, not recompiled from source. It is only repacked with changes in ramdisk to add new features and an enhanced cwm based recovery. I do not have plans to start building kernels from source. There are big names in the scene already doing a great job there.
Why I can't see your kernel version Phone / About dialog ?
That's how stock kernels behave. Version info is in build.prop and comes with the ROM. I can add it but won't as it is that way that stock kernels are supposed to work.
You can know the exact kernel version by typing in terminal: getprop
Also, in my recovery, there is an About dialog to give you more info about actual recovery which is also tight to kernel
Why your kernel drains more battery ?
It cannot be. It will act like stock kernel, not better, not worst
Does your kernel perform better than stock ?
Same answer as previous
Why sometimes I need to touch twice to validate an option in recovery ?
This is by design and not a bug. A special feature I added is the option to highlight/validate touched menu. After you scroll in a menu, your first touch will act as select without validation. This is to avoid any false validation during scroll, the worst limitation for many of the actual touch recoveries including original one
Will you implement exFAT support in recovery ?
It is done now, but only for JB as it supports exFat

You found a bug and want to report it:
Before posting about bugs concerning bootloops, kernel not working or recovery issues, please keep this in mind:
this is a pure stock kernel, kernel is just same as stock, except binary patching MMC_CAP_ERASE
if you have issues such as bootloop, first, try to flash the original stock zImage to see if you still have same issues as with my kernel
some custom kernels do not update your build.prop, it is the case with my kernel, as it is a stock kernel. I can add it, but won't for many specific reasons. You can flash a LR9 kernel on a LRT ROM, you will still see LRT in your phone/about. That's also true if you flash a Samsung genuine kernel on a different ROM. So, if you flashed many kernels before, be sure to know on what ROM you are and check potential compatibility issues between kernels in post 2

Before asking for support:
Make sure your issue is recovery related
All external sdcard issues: first format in PC with primary partition, tons of people are formatting as logical and come cry
Reproduce your issue and while in recovery:
Go to Advanced / Report Error
Copy the /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log and attach it here
Give detailed info about your issues
Without these, there is little chance I can help you, so, do not get mad if I do not answer

Recovery (.zip) packages instructions - Will also root your phone * recommanded method *
They come in the form of -signed.zip files that can be flashed in stock recovery 3e: No Yellow Triangle
Download xxx-signed.zip kernel matching your ROM
Put the previously downloaded xxx-signed.zip file on your external sd card
Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power)
Select "apply update from external storage".
Now select the xxx-signed.zip file you copied in previous step
You are rooted + new PhilZ-cwm6 kernel with CWM6
Odin packages instructions: ready for root
They come in the form of .tar.md5 file
boot into download mode
start odin3 and configure it as in picture below
connect phone in download mode to PC via USB
press start to flash the tar.md5 package
to root, download the root file from here (Method 1) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794

<< Boot animation samples >>
- Simplistic ROM boot animation
- AOKP boot animation
download one of the two bootanimations (the simplistic one is worth it)
extract the rar contents : bootanimation.zip file, do not extract the zip file
put the bootanimation.zip file in your /system/media or /data/local folder
on reboot, you get the new animation.
to reset to samsung animation, just delete the bootanimation.zip
< The ZIP version is rooted and can be flashed in stock recovery without yellow triangle >
Note: you can skip superuser installation when flashing using a config file: read this post to know how to use it

Request & Reporting
Request :
If your kernel is not listed above, OR you want to request when new ROM released, post your request with
ROM build version, CSC code as well better if you port zImage file and upload. this will make easy for developer.
Whatever request i see, will update here to this post so Phill can easily locate it. So before posting request, make sure this post doesn't have pending request already for kernel you are looking for.
Pending Request
Report :
As we know this kernel is pure stock kernel + patched mmc earse command + edit Ramdisk
so, posting regarding score(card)of ubuntoo (watever it call ) or quadrant score have nothing to do. Battery management/performance will same as on stock kernel.
Again input battery statistics or comparing with other custom kernel having no meaning. B'coz this is stock kernel and it will be same as stock kernel, no more no less. So kindly avoid such kind of discuss. Right now Phill have not indicate to add tweak to kernel, so no meaning to put request for under/overclocking and so and so. For this you always have choice for custom kernel, there are already nice custom kernels are available on development section. This is only for people want pure stock kernel but patched brick bug with added recovery function. That's it.
Please don't ask/describe here anything which is not related to this kernel. such posting will be consider offending and will be reported to moderator, which i don't like really.
Hope we never need moderator to look into this thread.
Thanks for co operation and Wish you happy flashing.
From where to get the kernel???? Where is the link i am lil confused...plz lemme know...

Feel free to report issues or a successful flash.
At thank you only posters: I appreciate these posts, but just add to them the kernel version you flashed and you are happy with. That way, we know it works
Happy wipe /data in recovery
BUT, PLEASE, DO NOT BLAME ME EVER IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE ANY FLASH; EVEN IN SAMSUNG KIES
edit:
Feel free to request upload of new kernels. Just give me these info:
Kernel exact 5 char name: DDLR9 for example
CSC code it was released on: AUT...
A download link for the zImage only
or
A fast mirror to the whole ROM (no hotfile.com...)
or
country and phone operator it was released for, so that I can get it in Fus

It will work on any custom ROM that supports a stock kernel
This is basically a stock kernel
If you move from DDLR9 to PhilZ-cwm6 DDLR9, then no need to wipe /cache or dalvik. Kernel is same, only patched + edit RAMdisk for features

cm 10.1
plz port for us cm 10!N5100 :crying:
Is it possible to get a signed zip? I have a recovery installed, just not the CWM or TWRP (it is the stock one).
Flash this with odin, I doubt the touch will work properly. Even though, N5110 users try it.

Looks like ill wait till mine arrives and then debug alot. A question, does it not work at all? Or does it register them wrong?
EDIT: talking about the touch input

It register them wrong, if you look at it like a portrait mode recovery the buttons are situated for that kind of recovery.
example: pressing top right corner (landscape mode) is pressing the return button, so it is way off. But it is this way in all touch recovery's for now on this tablet. Not a real problem not having touch, for me the efs is more important.
It is the same with the aroma installer touch driver, it is way off so you need to use the hardware buttons.

This device is more of a hybrid, half of the time its acting like a tablet and other times like a phone. Ill build one for portrait now and upload in a few
---------- Update ----------
Test2. flash with odin.
1. If recovery is portrait, touch issues should be resolved
2. EFS backup should now be fixed

Still in landscape so touch is still off and efs backup still doesn't work.

think ill just use ameer's script to backup everything via recovery. and about recovery being portrait, i have one more thing i can try, ill do that tomorrow. for now ill just update kernels to .79
bump?
anyone knows if there's a chance for working PhilZ in foreseeable future?
can I use this recovery instead of CWM or TWRP, flashing your ROM - CivZ-FLEXBEAM-4.2.2-Rev1.5?
on OP instruction on your ROM, it says "Install with CWM or TWRP", I am not sure if PhilZ touch works too?
I don't see why not since it is based on CWM advanced edition.

Yes it works with stock 4.1.2 but if you're on stock recovery, then you have to flash this with odin because you can't flash a custom recovery with a stock recovery. If you already have a custom recovery, then you can flash this with that, but I assume you're still on stock recovery. So:
1. You need a computer with odin and proper samsung drivers installed
2. Download the right GT-N5110 .tar file from this thread
3. Go to download mode and open odin
4. Make sure you have F.Reset time and Auto-reboot checked
5. Click on PDA and choose the .tar file and then flash it
And you're done

Read this thread before asking any question bro .... here is everythng explained . see above there is deatailed explanation of its feature .
Would like some help asap. So i installed the Philz recovery. Took a nandroid backup. And then choose the option clean to install a new Rom. Cleaned dalai cache. The man flashed the new Rom. And then a bootloop occurred with a new Rom. This is quite common to me so tried different combinations to access the recovery. And think I found it, it is volume up and power button. But when I click them instead of going to the recovery unfortunately it goes to bootlogo till a press these keys I notice the bootloop occurs otherwise it just opens and shows the bootlogo. Any help? I have the nandroid backup in the SD card. But since am not able to access the recovery am not able to do anything as of now. So what should i do? Push through add? Would be happy if you could help me.

Team Win Recovery Project 2.x, or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

CHANGELOG for 2.8.0.0:
Fix a bug that caused weird graphics and touch issues
Add MTP support to recovery thanks mostly to bigbiff with a little help from Dees_Troy
Add command line capabilities - you can now execute various TWRP features via adb instead of the touchscreen
Add support for color in the console and give error, warning, and highlight lines different colors
Track backup and restore progress based on file sizes to provide a much more accurate indication of progress
Improve handling of /misc thanks to mdmower
Improve setting of time on Qualcomm devices thanks to [NUT]
Allow using images on slidervalue GUI objects thanks to Tassadar
Allow using variables and addition and subtraction in variables for easier theming
Add support for 1440x2560, 280x280, and 320x320 resolutions and update 240x240
Allow ui.xml file to include additional xml files to help break up the theme and make TWRP easier to maintain
Other minor fixes and improvements
Over the course of the last year or so, bigbiff has worked to migrate various Java functions from Android's MTP implementation to bring you a fully C++ based MTP implementation that allows you to transfer files to both emulated storage and Micro SD cards. It's confirmed to work on various Nexus devices but we may have to make some changes on other devices to keep Windows happy. Windows is very picky about USB IDs and its drivers. We have tested it on Windows 7 and 8 as well as Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty. MTP is enabled by default, but we do toggle it off and on automatically during certain operations such as if you choose to wipe a storage partition. You can enable or disable MTP under the mount menu in TWRP. For more about what MTP is here.
Note: Due to a weird bug with our MTP setup, you cannot copy a zip file to the root of storage with Windows. You can change the .zip to something else like .txt and then copy it to the root and rename the file back to .zip once it's copied to the device. You can also copy the zip into any subfolder.
Command line support is also now available. You can perform various OpenRecoveryScript commands via the adb shell. Depending on what you are doing you may wish to do a "twrp set tw_mtp_enabled 0" and then reboot to prevent the MTP auto toggle from killing your adb interface. You can use this option to create and restore backups, wipe, install zips, and more. Via adb shell, type twrp followed by a space then enter the OpenRecoveryScript command and hit enter. Find more OpenRecoveryScript commands here.
CHANGELOG for 2.7.1.0:
-Add GUI option to change or repair file systems on individual partitions. The change is destructive so backup your data including internal sdcard first. This option should make it a little easier to migrate a device from ext4 -> f2fs, for instance. You will find this option under Wipe -> Advanced Wipe, then select only one partition and then press the Repair or Change File System button. If a developer has added f2fs support for your device and we don't have it in TWRP, please contact me via PM to arrange for it to be added.
-Various bugfixes to backup and restore
-Improvements to USB storage handling
-Added a class to search for files to make finding the correct brightness file automatic in most cases
-Various other bugfixes and tweaks
CHANGELOG for 2.7.0.0:
-Faster graphics rendering by disabling alpha blending on fully opaque objects thanks to Tassadar
-Allow sideloading from /tmp on encrypted devices
-Check for a crypto footer before asking for a password to prevent user confusion
-Additional checks for validity to auto generated backup names
-Text wrap in the console output
-Proper caps lock support in the keyboard
-Mouse support via USB OTG for devices with a broken digitizer
-Improve scanning of storage locations for OpenRecoveryScript
-Haptic feedback for buttons, keyboard, and vibration at the end of longer running actions thanks to Samer Diab
-Fixed ext4 wiping when no selinux contexts are defined for that partition (e.g. sd-ext)
-Update SuperSU to 1.93 and improve installation process
-Added selinux contexts restoration to fix permissions
-Load RTC offset on Qualcomm devices to fix the date/time in recovery
-USB Mass Storage fixes Add SELinux support checking
-Add Disk Usage class to better handle excluded folders (e.g. Google Music cache)
-Add 4.4 decrypt support
-Add some toolbox utilities to TWRP (namely to support SELinux functions not supported in busybox)
-Various SELinux fixes and bug fixes
Note: 2.7 marks the first time that we are dropping support for older devices. We are doing this because of the SELinux support needed to install 4.4 Kit Kat ROMs. The non-TWRP parts of the recovery image have to be built in at least a 4.1 tree and the kernel that is included in the recovery image has to support writing SELinux contexts. We don't own most of the devices that we support so we depend on outside testers and developers to help us update devices. In many cases we can't find someone readily. Come to #twrp on Freenode if you want to help bring your device up to date. You can tell right away if your device will support 4.4 ROMs in 2.7. Boot TWRP and press the console button (the square-ish button either in the bottom middle or upper right) to view the console output. If it doesn't say "Full SELinux support" in the console, then your device still needs some work. Help us help you.
CHANGELOG for 2.6.3.0:
-Proper backup and restore of SELinux contexts (thanks to Tassadar)
-Pull in some ROM information for backup name generation
-Merge all recent patches from AOSP bringing TWRP up to date with Android 4.3
-Add 1200x1920 theme (thanks to Tassadar)
-A few other fixes and tweaks

Red Wolf Recovery is custom recovery based on TWRP source code however some things are working here slightly different then you might expected. The main objective of this project is to provide stable recovery with features which you have never seen before in a recovery and which have not been accepted for adding to the official source code of TWRP. This recovery is also first recovery on the world with password protection.
Based on TWRP version: 3.2.2
For devices: Kenzo & Kate
Authors build: ATG Droid
Developers: ATG Droid

- There isn't bug with reboot from recovery to recovery
- more languages
- other improvements from Features and Changelog lists
Changelog:

* Revert changes which caused issues with slow reboot in 027
* MIUI-Updater: Fix sometimes possible double declaration of the final install status
* DataManager: Fix the TWRP's missing LOGINFO mount point for Output_Version
* RWDumwolf: Add support for the different fstab path on some devices
* RWDumwolf: Better handle the process of modifications to the default properties and let user know about the number of modified ones
* RWDumwolf: Find and remove start of flash_recovery service from inits, if it exists
* Recovery: Don't rename scripts under the /system/bin /system/etc for stock recovery replace, instead of it set different permissions to cause issues with execution
* RWDumwolf: Cleanup
* Updater: Properly handle info about the OSE package signature
* Recovery: Directly call start of the ADB if at the start of main we aren't able stat password file
* Recovery: Correctly handle ADB with recovery password related changes
* Recovery: Update to Oreo tree
* Partition-List: Add new list types for OSE partitions and storages for backup/restore process
* Installation: Load zip entries directly to buffer instead of extracting them
* ORS: Reboot on the sucessfull installation is now optional based on user's selection from the GUI
* ORS: Call Deactivation Process even if reboot on finished ORS isn't allowed or isn't forced by the ORS result
* OPTM: Call set action with the empty value in case that value should be positive
* OPTM: Fallback to main without variable which would be needed to be parsed is now directly down with call of home

* GUI: Allow user to select OSE partitions for the backup/restore process, instead of the previous direct definition
* Installation: Add support for the format of A/B packages on the OSE zip detection
* GUI: Remove redefinitions of objects from screen page, since they're already defined on one overlay
* PartitionManager: Add new fstab flag to exlude partition from the GUI mount section, cust isn't really needed to be here if we want to use double mount points for one block device
* GUI: Remove for us the useless theme loading parts from previous builds

* OSE: Fix the variable mismatch caused by global variable definitions without handling the previous possible defined value
* INIT: Add new triggers for the ADB startUP.
[B][U]RedWolf-V3.2.1_027-Kate_Kenzo.img[/U][/B]
- If screen is turned off then automatically detect AROMA Installer package and unblank screen before starting the update binary which is going to call AROMA GUI, so we won't be stuck at the black screen since AROMA engine require screen to be turned on.
- Added ability to change OTA Survival driver properties from the recovery GUI, allowing recovery to support "out of the box" almost all incremental OTA updates from different OEMs/custom ROMs out there (as long as they have correctly formatted metadata).
- Notify user about the current activity of the deactivation process - that's handled under the console
- Improved dumwolf driver
- Removed the vibration feedback from all GUI elements
- Automatically resize bootable partitions during nandroid backups
- Changed theme to black/white/red style based on @TBO material theme
- Data files aren't anymore saved on the storage partitions, which means that we're now able to survive even encrypted device.
- Some bug fixes and improvements...
[B][U]RedWolf-V3.2.1_026-Kate_Kenzo.img[/U][/B]

If you have installed TWRP app on your device then recovery will not allow you to install Snap Camera.. Also if you don't have installed TWRP app then recovery will continually offer installation of the Snap Camera even if Snap Camera is installed.. But this bug shouldn't be a huge problem to fix in the next updates.
Password protection is the best
guess the password feature should br adopted to official twrp ...anyway nice work mate except for some wierd blurry screen on kenzo sometimes :fingers-crossed:
I forget that there is also option to get notified about finished installation.. Just try to click on install / find some zip file / and before you swipe to install it check here "Notify about finished installation".. :fingers-crossed:
Edit: Just uploaded new build for Kenzo.. So please test it and report back.
For me the latest version for kenzo is working perfectly i have also clean flashed a rom and it's working. I found only one bug: the shutdown from reboot menu isn't working.
