Incredible Pi (FreePBX + Asterisk) - Raspberry Pi Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some basic Linux issues I'm having with my Raspberry Pi and an installation of Wheezy with FreePBX and Asterisk preloaded. Everything runs perfectly fine with the exception that I cannot get this distribution to recognize the WIFI hotspot I have created with my phone (HTC One X). I know the Raspberry Pi can recognize it because I've used other distributions (such as OpenElec) and they have worked perfectly.
The issue has to do with the correct settings in the WPA.CONF file. When I leave it stock, the Pi will connect to any open network. I know this works because it will randomly connect to some network that is nearby. I can't find this network with any other of my devices so it must have a hidden SSID and I don't have the patience to look for it (besides, it's not my device). When I try and modify the WPA.CONF file to set it up with my WIFI hotspot, it won't work. I've tried a bunch of different settings and combinations, but I can't for the life of me figure this out. I've listed below the settings for the HTC One X WIFI hotspot. If anyone could possibly suggest what I should write in the WPA.CONF file, I'd greatly appreciate it!
ssid: *****
ssid hidden: no
channel: auto
security: WPA-TKIP
submet and mask = standard settings

SlingPlayer problems?

Hi all, I have a weird problem.
I have a tilt and am using the HTC rom, I connect to wifi in my apartment and 3G or HSDPA when I leave the apartment.
When I'm connected through wifi, my Slingplayer works flawlessly, finds my slingbox, and plays the video. When I try to connect outside using 3G/HSDPA, I get "Cannot connect with current connection settings"
I know the Slingbox is working correctly because I can connect to it through a desktop PC without a problem, and I know that the 3G works fine on my tilt because I have no problem loading websites, using mundi, etc.
Any ideas? I've seen a couple other posts on other forums with the same problem but there were no responses on them.
Thanks!
Can you connect to anything else when on 3G?
Try your proxy settings
Did you change the default ports on the SlingBox config?
Are those ports (default or modified) open from the outside of your firewall/router?
If you have the ability to monitor inbound connections try monitoring while you connect through 3G and see if your device attempts on the correct port and that it is NATed to the correct IP and port.

I had exactly the same problem with my Belkin router. You need to set up a port on your router in order for it to work. I know on mine it involved setting up a virtual server.
I am using the TyTN II and I am having the same exact problems. I think AT&T killed access to slingbox somehow. I can surf the internet just fine, and then as soon as I start the slingplayer, my connection gets lost and my phone says "cannot sonnect with current connection settings." Any help would be appreciated, especially with the World Series coming up this week.

Possibly a silly point but can you definitely connect over the internet to it? Or just over your LAN?
There's a wizard that enables the port forwarding for you - (called Remote Viewing or something?) should be with the software for the slingbox.
Could be that your desktop is just going direct over the LAN?
Also, I had problems when I was just using the automatic settings to configure the box - in the end it works far better if you ignore the UPnP stuff, and use the manual setup process (or so I found). Again, the desktop software wizard steps you through this.
If you can connect over wifi at home, but not over wifi or 3g when away, then unless AT&T are blocking the ports, its more likely your router settings, as at home you are inside your LAN but elsewhere you have to go through your routers hardware firewall.
Just have a look at slingbox's help files.
SlingBox works fine on AT&T. Check your proxy settings on the phone. Try the "remove hidden proxy" cab. The home router also needs an outgoing port defined as well. Good Luck, I know it can work.
I will bet that it's your router/firewall blocking the incoming net traffic. Try connecting to it from a Friend's internet connection or a public computer at the library or something.
Had a similar problem with slingplayer mobile on my new HTC TouchPro- phone from Vodafone but I put in my T-mobile SIM as I wanted to keep the Web and walk.
Slingplayer worked fine from Vario3 with same sim but not from TouchPro. Eventually unticked the use proxy server in the connection settings and it started to work. Weird, as on the Vario the proxy box is ticked and it works.
Anyway, worth trying if anyone else is having problems.
One of two things, either you have not port fowarded your router to allow the Slingbox to be remotly viewed, go to portfoward.com for exact instructions for your specific router, or your hidden proxy is messing with it. More than likley its not port fowarded correctly. BTW...when your in your home network, i.e... using WiFi, it will work without the router being fwded because your slingbox is already inside your home network. When coming from the outside of your home network through 3g or whatever your router has to allow access to the slingbox.

Connected to Wifi but cannot use Internet

Hi:
I have the HTC-branded TyTN II and I can connect to my Wifi network just fine, but none of the applications can access the Internet through this connection. The connection status shows as "connected" and the phone shows up in router's DHCP table. Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks in advance!
Try moving the WIFI power saving mode to the left: "Best Performance".
Don't know if this is "too obvious" but have you set the DNS lookup address?
oh man! another unlucky soul...like me
dont worry buddy, you are not alone in this "wireless problem" as i have an HTC Touch and unfortunately i have Windows Vista Home Premium installed in my laptop which has damn wifi.
same as yours, my HTC connects to the wifi i made in several ways with Security and Authentication Enabled in every way i can and also last with Open Authentication and Security as NONE
my network shows that my wifi is connected to my HTC but only LOCAL, which means you cant access internet, and strangely also, the wifi network is labelled as Unidentified Network, when the WIFI i made is given a solid name, like WIFY.
i checked out my HTC Touch with a friend who has Windows XP installed in his laptop and damn....i can browse as well as chat in Messenger, while being connected to his WIFI.
So i will tell you these by experience:
1st: its not a problem with your HTC TyTN II, so dont subject it to forced connection, like messing with your settings all day long while you try to connect it. cos simple truth is you cant (i m assuming you have windows vista as well)
2nd: its been like my third nite, with "vista+wireless connection+unidentified network" searched on google.
and somethings i came across, but didnt fix my problem includes:
> disable IPv6 from your NIC
> assign a MAC address filter to your NIC (Vista by default has Network Address set to Not Present, which can be found in your LAN Card > Properties > Advanced Tab)
And even my assumption that you're using Vista is wrong, let this be an INFO to other users here as well.
Damn, i m getting back to Windows XP!!!!!!!
So if you think your WiFi card needs a checkup or try these solutions i have mentioned, try google....its a saviour for all gadget dudes like us!!!!
Just to try and give a fuller picture - I have no such problems
I have a desktop running Win XP Pro, a laptop running Vista Home Premium and my Kaiser. All are connecting wirelessly thru a router using WPA encryption and using IE, Firefox for browsing, SMTP/POP3 clients for email and MSN. They are also connection to each other - desktop, laptop and Kaiser - no problem on any of them.
Yeah, having Vista on your network should be no issue with regards to connectivity of a device to a wi-fi network. However, having Vista on the network may make the vista computer invisible on the network map and make it unavailable on the network if you are using XP based computers as well. Not too sure about other Windows versions or different OSs. This is because the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder component is not installed on the Windows XP-based computer. The patch to install on the XP based rigs is here. I ran into several networks with this issue and have cleaned them up with this patch. I even keep it on my Cruzer because I have seen it so much.
I know this doesn't help with the original query, but I wanted to ensure ayyum3 and cv2k3 know that Vista in the network will not affect any outside device's connectivity.
To the 2 fellas who are having this issue... are you using a software, or have you enabled the locking out external devices from connecting to your network? Also, have you ensured your wireless router has proper internet connection? To see the network yet be unable to access the internet leads me to believe it is a router-modem connectivity issue (albeit a simple IP addy issue, or a cable issue).
What kind of wireless router you using? Is it using the latest firmware for it?
Are you able to connect other wireless devices to the said router?
Are you able to connect your TyTN to some other AP (ie neighbours, cafe, starbucks, etc)?
did you try setting your wifi power mode to best performance
This was happening to me recently after I replaced my router...I ended up changing the channel the wlan was using from Auto (it was setting itself at channel 6) to channel 11. Channel 1 also worked. The other thing I did was disable the wireless speed enhancement features on the router. Now I can connect and surf with no issues...
I dont know what all that was about a vista pc but the OP's problem (from last november) would no doubt be that he had not set the wifi connection to connect to "the internet" or his device was set to use a network proxy for all connections.

reverse tether, ad-hoc, on mac filtered network?

I have a rooted N1 with cyanogen 5.0.4.1 on it.
I'm studying abroad this semester, and the university I'm at seems to have done everything they could to prevent me from connecting my phone to the internet on their network.
There is a wireless network, but it doesn't reach my room, and there's a proxy; I haven't been able to get any of the various proxy apps to work with it, at all. On a somewhat related note, since moving to cyanogen I'm not able to connect to that network anymore (wpa enterprise, tls/pap/user+pass). No real loss, since it didn't work as I couldn't get the proxy going.
The rooms have ethernet, with a static IP and mac filtering, and of course the same proxy. In addition, on the wired network in the rooms you have to connect to a vpn in order get anything other than the school's intranet
With cyanogen's rom, I have been able to connect my phone to my computer's ad-hoc network by giving it the parameters (IP, gateway, netmask, dns), that were provided to me, but I can't download anything. My only guess as to why that's not working is their static IP/mac filtering combo is not playing nicely.
I haven't ever delved very deeply into networking type stuff such as proxies, ssh tunnels, etc, so these two ideas of mine could be completely unworkable, but what I've been able to come up with is:
1. Is there a way to have my laptop keep handling all the proxy/ip/vpn nonsense, and just route http data to and from my phone? I've never dealt with ssh or anything of that sort, but I run linux so it should be pretty trivial to get it set up on the laptop's side of the equation.
2. Failing that, I'm allowed to have 3 devices with 3 different mac addresses, each of which is given a separate IP address, so I give the people in charge of the network the mac address for my phone and get an IP address for it. Then, connect to my laptop's ad-hoc network, which is on IP #1, and go to the advanced wifi settings on my N1 and set up a static IP with IP #2. Does that work, at all? This of course doesn't account for the vpn at all, but if it does in fact work I'd then move on to that.
What a ****ing brain-buster. Goodluck!
As an update, I can use cyanogen's included tethering ability, in conjunction with ConnectBot, to ssh from my phone to my computer (got that working after a bit of work, and learned something new). However, when I try to set up port forwarding in ConnectBot, it doesn't work; I don't know which ones to forward, whether to choose local or remote, and if I try to forward something below 1024 it gives me an error because of that. Does anybody know what ports I need to forward, and how to do that properly with ConnectBot?

[Q] HTC One Wifi connects, no internet, troubleshooting help

Hey guys. I am having a crazy problem. It all started about 4 weeks ago my phone started having authentication issues with my xfinity Router/Wifi unit (Arris TC862)... I figured at the time it was having problems with the encryption so I changed it from WPA/WPA2-PSK (AES/TKIP) to WPA2-PSK (TKIP).
That worked and it allowed to phone to connect to the wifi... But now I cannot contact the internet from the phone... I know it isn't the wifi module itself because it works fine on every other wifi that I try it on, subway and my work.
I am using ViperRom One so I have the terminal emulator... I am able to ping my default gateway of 192.168.1.1 which is the same router that I connect to via wifi, I am able to ping from my computer to my phone... So it appears that I am on the local LAN
I cannot ping google via name or by ip address so that rules out a DNS issue
I tried using a static ip address as well... 192.168.1.50 which I am sure my dhcp hasn't handed out
No other wireless device in the house has this problem
I guess what I am looking for is help if you know what the problem may be, but more specifically troubleshooting that I can do on the phone I am a network engineer but I know little about linux, and what the capabilities of the virtual terminal are... If I was at work I would just span (mirror) my cisco port and then hook up wireshark to see what is happening to the packets but I don't think this router is that sophisticated.
I would lean towards this being a comcast issue but the fact that this all started off with the authentication issue makes me think that it is a problem with the phone...
One thing of note, the router itself recognizes all my other devices as being android or a kindle but for my phone it says "UNKNOWN" which is basically just the common name, it recognizes the MAC and that is all that should matter... is there a way to change your hostname on the phone? I noticed there is no Ifconfig command in the terminal but I am not sure if that is where you would change that anyhow.
Well I figured out the problem... Stupid Xfinity
If anyone else gets this problem log in to your xfinity router; Under Parental Control - Turn off Managed Services - I do not know why this was blocking my phone but it definitely was
Apparently this blocks other devices too like blu ray players with internet ability

Thank you, thank you! Comcast idiots. Who would think that by default they wouldn't allow devices to connect? The weird thing is my HTC One worked for about three weeks on wifi and then magically didn't. Whatever, now fixed. thanks.

[Q] L2TP/IPSEC VPN settings for server

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone could help me with the settings that I need to implement for L2TP/IPsec to work with my HTC One?
Basically I have 3 handsets with versions 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 of Android and need to get VPN functionality working.
Previously I was using OpenVPN which worked fine but then version 4.4 of Android managed to break things so the OpenVPN Connect app doesn't work any more.
I think what I'm stuck on is which encryption type works and also authentication type should be?
My server runs OpenBSD so I don't know if anyone has had any luck with that but my current settings are:
main: hmac-sha1 with encryption type aes and modulus of 1024
quick: hmac-sha1 with encryption type aes and psk
I've had a look at some Cisco documentation to try to figure out the necessary settings which are actually the ones above... however I keep getting the error that the "Phase 2 ID's don't match"/
Would someone be able to share their working config experiences so that I can get my handsets to connect?
Basically the issue I'm having is not with the handset but figuring out how to configure the server to get the handset to connect.
Thanks.
