[Q] $125 Google Play Credit - Sprint HTC One (M7)

If you haven't bought your One yet (like me) you might wanna read this.
I just realized that if I buy an HTC One at RadioShack (Sprint, AT&T has this too) you get $100 in Google Play credit. Plus, if you register your device before July 15th, you get $25 in credit from HTC..
Holy cow, that is $125 in Play credit. :highfive: :good:
So, what the heck am I gonna do with all that? I'm not complaining but only trying to encourage discussion. I guess the main point of this thread is, what would/will YOU do with that?
EDIT: Perhaps I'll buy this!!

Once again, not a terrible problem to have.

Can you buy devices or is it restricted to software only?
$125 would reduce the price of the next Nexus 7 by more than half.

Figures.

Yeah.... I won't be running out of Google Play money for a while though. You could say buy a movie or TV show, but I have Netflix. Another crappy thing is that you can't use Play credit to subscribe to Play Music All Access, which is dumb if you ask me. I can use Spotify on my computer anyway..

You said Sprint and ATT have this?? $100 Google play deal.???

So, once again, here's the scenario:
Somebody goes to RadioShack, and buys an HTC One--AT&T or Sprint, there's no difference for this--and then they receive $100 Play credit from RadioShack. SPRINT LINK AT&T LINK
Unfortunately, the AT&T has to be done in store due to RadioShack's agreements with AT&T. The Sprint can be bought online I believe.
After that, the person goes home, and goes to this HTC site to register their device and receive $25 in Google Play credit.
They now have $125 in Google Play credit at their disposal. They might have to use it before the end of the year or something (at least for the HTC given credit if you look at their ToS for the deal), but hey that's still a pretty good deal if you ask me. Especially if it's on a new contract, you will receive more Play Credit than you paid for the device itself (of course, there's a million other fees though.)

Stepped up and got this deal yesterday. took me a little while to figure out how to root it, but its up and running now! Just backing up stuff on my note 2 right now

Do you know if this is true for the $100 that RadioShack gives you? I looked at the fine print and didn't see any deadline for that credit to expire, but maybe I missed something.

I think only the HTC credit expires, if you read the fine print on their page. RadioShack does not, unless we're both mistaken. So, spend your $25 from HTC first, and then add your RadioShack and you shouldn't have to worry about expiration.

Wish I saw that 100 $ play store credit deal sooner... Just ordered my sisters HTC one last Wednesday... At least I got the activation fee waived through a promo :/

Possible way to get $50 refunded for 16 GB owners

Just as a heads up, there might be a way for some 16 GB owners to get their $50 dollars refunded to reflect the new price. I bought my 16 GB mid-September from Walmart and like many users was surprised to find that Google would drop the price by $50 dollars only a few weeks later. My N7 was purchased on a credit card (Chase Freedom) that apparently offers a 60 day price protection for up to $250 per claim. I wasn't sure that my credit card offered this until I gave them a call so it would not hurt to check the benefits that your credit card provides.
The claim process isn't too lengthy. Just need to fill out a form that they emailed me, provide a copy of the receipt as well as a copy of Walmart's website reflecting the new price. Kind of like a rebate I guess. Hopefully this can help some others out.
Yeah, I was peeved that I didn't grab my chase freedom. I went with Amex instead. They have a buyers remorse program but I'd still keep this device anyways if they gave me $50 back.

Yes. Money is tight for me right now and $50 is enough that I want it back. It has nothing to do with being cheap.
What dya reckon the chances of getting a price match from Argos?
I purchased it in store, still have the reciept and everything.

I am simply pointing out one of the perks that some credit cards offer their cardholders. Since I bought the N7 for $250 not long ago and now that the current price is $199, why not get the difference refunded? Only reason I do not have Walmart doing the price match is simply because I am beyond their 15 day return policy. Luckily there are credit cards out there that extend this price protection for you as part of their benefits.
I love the N7 and was content with the 16GB. I have no hard feelings towards Google for driving down the price since it is a competitive market. If there is a way for others to potentially benefit from the perks that their credit cards offer then it never hurts to share that information to those that are unaware.
In the big picture, I don't think $50 dollars is going to worry a big bank anyways. But if it allows someone to get another tank of gas or some groceries for the week, then I simply ask, why not?

I am not certain of the story policies in place for Argos. It never hurts to call the store you got it from and ask if they have a price match guarantee or some kind of similar program. I believe there are some US retail chains that allow you to price match even after purchasing for up to a certain time frame (usually 30 days). Best Buy is an example that I believe has this program but I'm not 100% certain as I haven't shopped there in forever.
If the store don't work out, why not give your credit card (assuming you bought it with a credit card) a call to see if they offer a similar benefit? As I mentioned earlier, I did not know that my credit card offered it until I called to see if they are able to match the new price.
I bought a 16GB model last Wednesday from Office Max. They have a 14 day return policy for electronics so I brought mine in yesterday and simply exchanged it for a new 32GB Nexus 7. No fuss, no muss.
Lol, that wasn't quite my point, and I should have elaborated. My point being you got $25 free credit so should only expect $25 back and when buying things you should expect the price to drop. We got a Samsung smart TV a couple months ago for £2500 and its now £2000. We can't just walk into the store and ask for the £500 we lost. Its just how things work.

If the store you bought the TV from (or credit card company) had a policy of refunding the difference if there is a price drop, and you were within that time period, suley you would have requested the £500 back?
Same principle here, they guy is just highlighting a policy that some people may not be aware of
It's not being cheap... it's managing your money. The reason you can do this is because the price dropped so quickly from release. If you can do it, go for it. $25 play store credit isn't the same as actual money. Sure, I could have $25 of apps.. but I haven't spent anything near that on the play store yet. But gas? oh yes...
I don't consider 5 months "so quickly" and if they bought it in the last month they should have known the 32gb was coming, the rumours where everywhere.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
So, since the 8GB model was discontinued, I should be able to get a full refund right? lol
But in all seriousness, I take it this might not apply to the 8GB model, since there's no actual price on it now? Maybe even less of a chance of it being possible if you bought it from Play Store?

I wasn't an early adopter. I didn't have mine since release. I had mine just about 30 days out from the release of the 32. Most stores are now smart and place it on 14 day return policy. If I had mine since release, I would of been in the similar position with your TV and wouldn't care. The money is gone, bye. My bill for the N7 is actually due November 4th, so I still haven't paid it with my own money yet, it stings a little more in those shoes.
Anyways, it's an offer the credit card provides. I looked at Discover and they do the same. It's their "purchase protection" to win over customers. It's there, no extra cost. Why not? I would use it in a heartbeat if I had the option. This has nothing to do with being cheap. Being cheap would be buying an $80 budget tablet from some no name brand hoping it will function just like the N7.

I saw the rumors but didn't start to really swirl until after the end of my 14 day return policy. It was the KFHD that got me into this mess, got one from amazon, didn't like it even after root but it wet my appetite to get a new toy
But in the end, it is what it is.
five months is very quickly. Consider that not everyone preordered the nexus 7. And the fact that supply was limited until around august. Plus certain countries didn't even have the device for a while after the US release. Five months is short. Really, Google was just stupid to think 8GB would be enough as a starting point. A 7in tablet that's portable without 3G is supposed to stream things from the cloud? Wat....

Or maybe one doesn't have enough cash upfront for the whole $350 so they spend $250 ($199 after mail-in rebate) on the phone? Exactly. I have the money and I am on a single plan myself. However, I refuse to eat the upfront cost when I plan on staying with T-Mo anyway and I don't see value in the value plan at all. I planned on getting it from the Play store But unfortunately I have a 7 month old who needs Christmas things and a 9yr old who made straight A's. That extra money can make or break it for a kid. I can get her a Nexus 7 with that extra hundred and change I am saving upfront. See what I mean? Not singling you out but I notice people seem to write off everyone as being "financially endowed" on here kinda. lol. I work for Google (part time and non-Android related) here in Atlanta and even I get NO perks. lol
So People like me don't mind the $250 cost from T-Mo. I am sure that's the case with a LOT of Americans on T-Mo. You have to prioritize yet still get what you want and work hard for. Play Store is a luxury if you can do it and I planned on it. But some folks can't do it.

To be clear on the release date...If you call in T-Mo you can order it on the 14th...Stores is the 15th...Only reason I know this is because I asked Loyalty Department because they offered me a discount due to my bad experience with Customer Care and my 7 exchange warranties on the HTC Sensation with little to no help to get me out of the phone. So they told me to call in at 6am EST on the 14th and order and they'll even throw in free next day shipping and waive the early upgrade fee for my troubles.

It makes no sense to pay 1.5 times for the same phone. Upfront or per month payment. Money is money.
Simple math: Assuming you are on classic plan
500 mins 2 gb data costs 59$
For value plan where you dont get subsidised phone its 44$ for the exact same plan.
15$ per month extra is 15*24months = 360$
So you end up paying 200 +360 = 560 for a 350$ phone. Infact if you are on value plan Nexus 7 will be free as you have 210$ to buy it.
We often neglect 15$ per month extra as we tend to see 350$ as a huge amount.

Tmonews, android police, and Google are my sources. All these sites say that the T-Mobile one won't be tampered with, being the same as the play store one. Again, look at the tech specs of the device on the play store. It clearly is pentaband, and it lists the frequencies. T-Mobile uses the aws band for their 4g, which is 1700/2100
I may have misunderstood your question, so if I did, I apologize

It was more of a trial, I wanted to see if it would work because I thought I would just drop 50 bucks a month into my google play account and then when I had enough I could just purchase something new, like the nexus 10.
I do have debit, credit cards, but the money was in my paypal. So I used my Paypal debit card to purchase the cards.
Basically it was an exercise in futility, and wanted to let other people know so that if they do have a ton of money in their google play account and are looking to use it to purchase devices on the play store its not possible...

There is no need for name calling, I mean cmon man, just because I don't drive the same way you do doesn't mean that you are the best driver and I am Retarded. Different strokes for different folks.
Some of us have a $359 limit on our cards.

Keep your mouth shut when it comes to insults and name calling on the forum. We have enough ignorance in the world already, an example being the article below:
http://jonathanturley.org/2012/10/25/a-response-to-ann-coulter-from-an-extraordinary-man/:
Below is a powerful response from a man with Down’s Syndrome to Ann Coulter who recently called President Barack Obama a “retard.” He is Special Olympics athlete and global messenger John Franklin Stephens. He is also the antidote to today’s hateful political discourse.

It's too bad you can't pay with Play Store cards, otherwise I could get a HUGE discount buying 'em at Target

to be very specific, he didn't actually call him retarded, just the action of doing what he did. big difference imo
OT: glad to hear you were able to get your money back mate. hopefully your lesson will help others not make the same mistake
Well if you read when Google released the gift cards they said you couldn't buy devices with them..
I feel sorry for you if you bought $400 worth of gift cards

Its all good man I got my money back and I must have missed that announcement when they released the cards.
The only thing I lost was about an hour out of my day.
Really all I wanted was to warn people if they had the same idea, not cause a whole ruckus!
Richard Vernon: What was that ruckus?
Andrew Clark: Uh, what ruckus?
Richard Vernon: I was just in my office and I heard a ruckus.
Brian Johnson: Could you describe the ruckus, sir?
LOL
I don't see why you shouldn't be able to buy it that way.
Kind of lame IMHO.

Google Play Gift Card UK

Has anyone got any inside info, predictions etc about when the UK will be getting these? I google it every week or so & so far nothing.
It is so frustrating I desperately want to buy paid apps & ebooks for my Nexus 7 but don't want to have twenty or thirty .25p .50p ₤1.25p etc charges on my bank statement. So it means I have to buy everything from AmazonUK (who do have Gift Cards)
Moderators - I honestly didn't know where else to put this. Sorry if it needs to be moved.

Hi, I'm sorry, not meaning to be rude but that sentence doesn't make sense. What are you trying to say? What is in the 'Google Play Code'?

I think he means the ability to redeem codes is present in the UK store, there's just no (legitimate) way to purchase them yet.
Very very soon. They just rolled out the ability to redeem gift cards in the UK Play Store, the actual cards should appear shortly.
Of course this is Google we're talking about here.
i have heard they are real hard to get hold of in america so i doubt we will have them for a while yet. im looking forwrd to them as well.

Not hard at all. By now they have rolled out to most retailers. I have seen them at all local Targets and Walmart.

I was told by google last week that they are scrapping the physical cards completely in favour of online codes only & are aiming to have a more global rollout rather than the current US-centric approach. Knowing Google I won't hold my breath.

If that's true it's a mistake. iTunes has a physical presence and grandparents aren't going to go buy their grandkids a digital code on the computer. They will pick up a card at the end of a register though.
Physical cards need to exist.

Physical cards do not 'need' to exist. You may well want them to..... It may in fact be that you are correct that it would be a good marketing move to have them. But they themselves do not 'need' to exist. Anyway I just want them to rollout gift cards (virtual or otherwise) to Europe. I've stopped buying apps because I only have two squid left in my balance. Hurry up google!
Anyway how did you know that the UK play site had changed to allow us to redeem non existent gift codes? I'm curious.

No I saw it. I'm just curious as to why an American would have noticed that the redeem thing (which has been there for ages), has finally become functional.
are these available in UK stores yet and if i but them online do i have to wait for a voucher to be posted to my address or would i get a code instantly via email?
Yes they are available

Yeah I'm not close enough to a Tescos or Morrisons. I hope they roll out the ability to buy google play credit online. Like the Americans have. Even if they do it will probably take them forever.

Google Play Store Credit Expires 9/30/13

First this might be a nice reminder for anyone still having some credits left over, like me.
Second, I thought it would be nice to hear some recommendations for good apps/games that are a must have.
Is this just the $25 promotion for new Nexus 7's? Or does everyones credit expire, because I find that hard to believe.
Shame. I need to spend $10 quickly if this is true.

Thanks for the reminder. Used most of my $15 for rare/hard to get songs. $4.65 left to go for some more songs.
Darn I thought that was when the promo expired last year on September 30 2012, didn't know I had to use the credit within a # of days. Oh well got about $22 left lol.
Am hoping for a few sales today and tomorrow, with Android's 5th anniversary to burn my remaining credit.
Good thing I saw this, I still have $19 left.
Really?
Sorry, but where did you get this information from?
I don't think it would be smart of Google to offer credits to people for buying a device, then taking them away if you didn't finish spending them before a certain time. Plus I never received an email message from Google stating they'd be taking my credits away by a certain date.
As of today, Oct 4, 2013, I still have $16 on my account.
They have it in their Play Store help page.
Not sure why it haven expired yet though.

I'm sorry but where exactly is this offer? I haven't heard anything.
